AN - Happy Friday! As always I do not own Covert Affairs or any of the characters I'm playing with in this story. We are finally starting to really diverge from canon here, main characters are still the same, including a brief intro to Lena and Simon. I have 2 more chapters completely written, 3 more fully outlined, and about 4 more sketched out. The next few weeks are the absolute craziest time of the year at work, so while I hope to get more writing done, it may be a little sporadic once we hit mid Fenruary. I hope you all enjoy this!
Dreaming Through Regret
Chapter 6 pt 2 - Heaven Can't Help Me Now
Annie parked a few blocks away in a different direction from Eyal's apartment and from where she had parked the prior evening. She was fairly certain that she wasn't being tailed but did not want to take any chances that might expose her relationship with Eyal. Annie was pleased to be able to relax in the apartment after her day at the office, she kicked off her shoes almost immediately and dropped her duffel in the hall before walking further into the apartment to find Eyal. He was in the kitchen cooking dinner for them.
"Hello Neshama. How was work?"
"I was reassigned to a new department today. Joan said she fought the decision but was ultimately overruled."
"You're still a field agent though, right? No translations department for you?"
"Yes, still a field agent, and would have been with any of the options that they were considering. Luckily they took Joan's other input better than her request to not have me transferred. I'm working for the Office of Special Projects now."
"Wasn't that the department you told me Jai was heading up?"
"Yes, but now it's being run by Auggie. Evidently everyone at the agency agrees that Auggie and I make a good team."
"So what else happened?"
"Arthur assigned Auggie the task of tracking down what or who got Jai killed. Auggie said he specifically asked for me, well at least my eyes." Annie replied with a slight smirk as she started setting the table for dinner.
"That's good, you and Auggie still working together. Dinner is almost finished, why don't you go get changed into something more comfortable."
Annie headed off into the bedroom after pressing a kiss to Eyal's cheek and grabbing her duffel from the entry hall. She was glad to be able to get out of the skirt suit she'd been all day. If she'd known that she would be spending most of the day sitting on the floor she would have chosen something a little less restrictive. She pulled a comfy pair of modal cotton pajama pants and a matching camisole to change into out of her duffel. After getting changed, she spent a little time hanging up the clothes she had brought over from her place in Eyal's closet. There was something about seeing their clothes hanging together that made her weirdly giddy.
"Annie, dinner's ready." Eyal called out as Annie was finishing adding her things to an empty dresser drawer.
Annie left the bedroom and sat down at the table as Eyal placed a plate in front of her. Annie's eyes lit up as she saw the traditional Israeli Shawarma on the plate in front of her. Eyal poured them glasses of chilled white wine from the Golan Heights winery, a chardonnay if she read the label correctly. Once Eyal settled in at the table they both dug into the meal with abandon, nothing of note was discussed while they ate beyond Annie quipping about how bad a cook she was. Once they had finished eating Annie assisted in cleaning up, and then they both migrated to the couch in the living area.
"How do you feel about the reassignment?"
"I was really concerned at first, but Joan put me at ease by letting me know that it wasn't her decision or one that was driven by anyone thinking I was incompetent at my job. Now I'm happy to be working with at least Auggie since the DPD was out of the question."
"What are you and Auggie doing now? I know you said that Auggie was charged with finding Jai's killer, but what does that actually mean for you both?"
"Well Auggie and I started off by looking at all of Jai's active missions. Auggie had boxes and boxes of files sent up that pertained to O.S.P.'s operations. I think we got really lucky somehow in regards to those files." Annie replied before taking another sip of her wine.
"Lucky how?" Eyal asked, slightly confused about where Annie was going with that statement.
"Well, first off the CIA gives all long term missions code names, Project X, Operation Y, etc. There must have been 25 boxes of files in Auggie's office. All of them were labeled with a mission name. The boxes weren't labeled in Braille so Auggie had me start reading off the names, and about halfway through the boxes we came across three boxes that just had a symbol on them where the mission name should have been. Auggie and I were both thrown off by the anomaly, knowing CIA naming protocols. So we pulled the three boxes and I quickly scanned the remaining boxes to find two more with the symbol on them instead of a name." Annie paused to take another big sip of her wine before setting the glass down on the nearby coffee table.
"What was the symbol, Annie?" Eyal asked quietly and Annie noticed that he had gone a little tense after hearing what she had been telling him and he was leaning forward with his arms resting on his knees.
"The Big Dipper, but it wasn't drawn correctly."
"What do you mean it wasn't drawn correctly?" Eyal asked, intrigued by Annie's description.
"Well, when you see the Big Dipper in the night sky and how it's typically depicted in books it points down slightly to the right, it's not quite level, but it's not too far off. The way it was drawn on the boxes was almost up and down, something like 30-35 degrees to far tilted to the right."
"Like this?" Eyal queried as he drew the symbol on a nearby piece of paper.
"Yeah, that's right. Wait, Eyal, does this symbol mean something to you?"
"I think I've seen it before, several years ago, when I was digging around in the file room at King Saul Blvd. I was looking for information on an op that had been run several years prior and tripped across those boxes. I don't know much of anything else, other than Mossad has a similar interest to whatever O.S.P. was digging into."
"That's the thing Eyal. Auggie and I don't think this was an official CIA operation. Auggie and I traded ideas for over an hour about what it could be and in the end we agreed that it must have been something that Jai was doing off book. I think it's what Jai wanted to talk to me about before he was killed, I think it's what got him killed."
"Damn Annie, this sounds big. Really big. Big enough to kill people to keep it quiet big."
"I know, Eyal. What makes it even more concerning is that those five boxes only contain a few date ranges over the last 10 years. Huge swathes of time are missing. The most recent box is the most damning, it covers intel from just last month. Auggie and I think Jai has the other boxes hidden somewhere offsite, we think that's where Jai wanted to take me."
"What's the plan, Neshama? What are you doing next?"
"Auggie and I pulled in Joan. Auggie didn't want to go to Arthur with only a half baked theory. Joan thinks we need to dig into the name that kept popping up in the intel. A Simon Fischer. But she thinks that we need to do so offsite. She's getting Auggie and I equipment to use to build a backdoor into the CIA databases, equipment that we can conveniently lose or dispose of if needed. We haven't gotten further than that yet."
"It's a good start, Annie. You and Auggie are going to figure this out. I'll help where I can, off radar. I'll be in DC for a couple more days before I need to head back to Israel and Mossad."
"Thanks Eyal. Auggie and I will be using my safe house to do all our research since no one other than you knew about it until today."
"Stay safe and be smart as you move forward. Trust your instincts, they haven't steered you wrong so far."
"Of course. I'll keep you updated as best I can, I can say that I'm decent at this whole spycraft world, but having you on my side is invaluable."
Annie and Eyal let silence reign in the living room. Neither feeling the need to break it, both just wanting to be together. Eventually Annie yawned and Eyal realized just how late it was. He stood up and took both wine glasses to the sink and then returned to offer Annie a hand up. He led them to the bedroom where they both separated to prepare for bed. Annie swapped the soft pants for a pair of shorts and Eyal changed into a pair of obviously well loved lounge pants. They both settled into bed, Annie curling into Eyal's side.
Annie broke the silence, "Eyal, I'm scared, truly scared, for the first time since I started at the agency. I've been put in tricky situations and even been shot at, but this seems way bigger than anything I've ever done before."
Eyal pulled her closer to him with the arm wrapped around her shoulders before replying "Honestly, I'm worried too Neshama. But you have Auggie and Joan to rely on, and you have me, always. I'm going to start carrying my encrypted phone with me always, even on missions. I want you to be able to get to me anytime."
"Eyal, that's too much. I don't want to interfere with your missions! Your work is just as, if not more, important than this."
"Is it though? Are my missions more important than keeping you safe?" Eyal countered before leaning over to kiss her.
Annie wrapped her arms around his neck as Eyal's kiss became less inhibited. She channeled her fear and worry into that kiss, meeting Eyal's unease and apprehension kiss for kiss. They slowly let their anxiety regarding Annie's operation melt into passion for each other. Annie could feel the heat of Eyal's kiss spread from her lips into her belly where it lit a fiery want in her. Where their first time together had felt playfully passionate and the second had been all about reassuring each other, this time there was a sensualness that pervaded the room. Annie was inordinately pleased with Eyal's lack of shirt tonight. She rolled them so that she was straddling his hips. Annie dragged her hands from where they had been resting on his waist up to his shoulders and back down, enjoying the feel of his toned body under her fingertips. She dipped her head to catch his lips in a kiss before dragging them down the column of his neck where she interspersed small nips between open mouthed kisses.
Eyal sensed Annie's need to not only be in control of this moment but also her desire to seemingly memorize the feel of his body. That desire matched his own, brought out in earnest by the memory of how close he had come to losing her the prior day. He clenched one hand into the sheet under him while the other came up to trace random patterns over Annie's back. Not being in control in bed was not a normal occurrence for Eyal, but it had been quite some time since he had bedded someone he cared about and who cared about him in return. Letting Annie fuel the fire of his desire for her, he ceased fighting against the passion and fell head first into its depth. Annie had begun kissing down his chest as she drug her hands up to his shoulders once more when Eyal let out a low moan.
Annie was pleasantly surprised by that moan, Eyal did not typically allow himself to let go enough to surrender control like that. She smiled against his skin as she closely drew herself up his body and then sat back on her heels hovering enticingly above him. She slowly, almost painfully slowly to Eyal, slid her top up and over her head revealing her own toned body to him. Eyal was no longer satisfied with letting Annie set the pace, he rose up to take her in his arms and swept her lips into a fervent kiss. His arms wrapped around her middle, pulling her close to him, her heated skin like silk on his. Their tongues danced with each other as they let their emotions rise to a fever pitch. Eyal's own wish to truly learn Annie's body and her reactions to his touch took over and he rolled Annie beneath him.
Their lips parted and they both panted for breath, Eyal's hands almost reverently trailed down Annie's sides. The whisper soft sensations sent Annie reeling, his caress felt like he was worshipping her body in a way no one had ever done before. Eyal placed lingering kisses down her neck and on her shoulders, noting which places caused her to shudder or let out mewls of pleasure. His hands came to cup her breasts before he lowered his lips to her right nipple gently sucking on it. Annie's back arched into the sensation and her hands flew to entwine in his hair in an attempt to keep him there. Eyal released her nipple only to kiss his way over to the other, which pulled yet another moan from her lips. After cataloguing her reactions there, he kissed his way down to her belly button and then hooked his thumbs into the shorts and panties Annie was wearing. He pulled them slowly down her legs and dropped them off the end of the bed. He looked up at Annie, taking in her naked form. Her eyes were closed, her hands fisted into the pillow, and she was breathing heavily.
Eyal traced a pattern up her legs with his lips steadily making his way to her soaked center. Dropping a kiss just above her lower lips he took a moment to breathe her scent in. It was a heady mix of grapefruit and her own unique scent, completely intoxicating to Eyal. He looked up at her face to see that her eyes had been tracking his progress, after catching her gaze he lowered his head between her legs and leisurely drew his tongue along her opening. Annie let out a keening moan that encouraged Eyal to continue tasting her with open mouth kisses and gentle sucks. Annie devolved into a moaning writhing mess above him as Eyal surely drove her insane. He could tell from the way her hands were now tangled in his hair and the pitch of her moans that she was nearing orgasm, so he let his tongue flick quickly back and forth over her clit. All it took was three quick flicks to send Annie careening into an orgasm more intense than she'd had before.
As Annie slowly came down from her high, Eyal divested himself of his pants and slid back over Annie. Their lips met in a frenzy of teeth and tongues, Annie surprisingly undeterred by tasting herself on Eyal's lips. Eyal hitched one of Annie's legs up over his hip and sank himself into her core. Still incredibly sensitive from her earlier orgasm, Annie arched into Eyal at the overwhelming sensation of being filled. Eyal was in no hurry to see this over, so he set a slow and deliberate pace, enjoying the mewls of pleasure that it pulled from Annie's lips. Gradually Eyal lost himself in the movement of their bodies, focusing only on the pleasure of being joined with this woman. Soon his body was overcome with the intensity of their coupling and he knew it would not be long before he spilled himself into Annie. Wanting her to experience that rapture with him, Eyal slid his fingers between their bodies and found the bundle of nerves he knew would insure she found satisfaction with him. A few thrusts later they orgasmed together and collapsed into a slick sweaty heap, Eyal's head resting in the juncture of Annie's neck and shoulder. They laid like that, catching their breath, for a few minutes, relaxing into each other's embrace.
Eyal eventually rolled off of Annie and onto his back. Annie turned her head to look at him, catching his eyes, before rolling over to settle into his arms again. She dropped one last kiss on his cheek before laying her head on his shoulder and drifting to sleep. Eyal pulled the sheets and blankets up to cover them both before slipping into slumber himself.
