The next morning we all woke up bright and early to get ready for the day. Or at least Evie and I did. She wanted to make a good first impression.
Waking up with her this morning was something else though.
I woke up first. It allowed me to squeeze her close. She shifted against me, waking up, as I pressed a kiss to the side of her head. The smile she gave me made my heart stutter.
"Morning." she greeted, sleep heavily in her voice. That didn't last long though. In minutes, she was pulling me to start getting ready.
Today I decided on wearing a black halter top tucked into a pair of high waisted and ripped dark gold colored leather pants. I had on a black and gold bomber jacket Evie had made that cut off at my chest. Along with that I was wearing black boots with a low heel. I still easily stood at about 6 feet. My hair I had styled in a long braid so it was sweeping to my ankles. I also had on black fingerless gloves to show off my freshly painted gold nail polish, courtesy of Evie. My backpack which was a simple black was slung on my shoulders. Evie had also decided to do my makeup. So my eyes had black and gold eyeshadow to highlight my amber eyes. I also had on eye liner, mascara, highlighter, a little blush, and black lipstick.
Evie had gone for a more casual look. She had a t-shirt that was blue and white but with the word 'Fairest' across it. It was tucked into a lighter blue leather skirt. She had black tights and brown leather short boots, as well as one of the purses she made to complete the look. Her hair was down in her usual gorgeous waves and she was wearing a lighter makeup look. I couldn't keep my eyes off of her and she knew it too.
I, of course, walked her dutifully to class and we paused outside of her class door.
"Miss you" I said softly. She smiled and pulled me down to her height for a simple and sweet kiss.
"Princess." I mumbled against her lips, my teasing smirk already in place.
"It's not Tuesday anymore, '' I said, poking her lightly in the side. She only gave me her patented knee weakening giggle before skipping into the classroom.
I smiled all the way to Literature. And to the seat Carlos so dutifully had saved for me. Everyone was staring at me, but when I came in, the stares turned a little more fearful. Good.
The teacher seemed alright. He glanced our way ever so often but kept the class going as he normally would it seemed. The rest of the students in the class were always glancing at us and whispering to their friends.
After that was Remedial Goodness 101. We met up with the rest of the gang, Evie taking my hand and pulling me to sit next to her in the class. There were only five of us, so we had our choice of seating.
I focused on playing with Evie's hair in between my fingers. She focused on ignoring me and taking notes, eager to prove herself to Fairy Godmother. Mal was sketching. Jay and Carlos were goofing off.
"If someone hands you a crying baby..." Fairy Godmother continued with her questions, even gesturing to go along with her verbiage making me chuckle.
"Do you, A, curse it? B, lock it in a tower? C, give it a bottle? Or D, carve out its heart?" she asked. My body tensed up at the B choice and I pulled away from Evie. She, of course, noticed and turned to look at me worried.
"Evie?" Fairy Godmother called. Evie jumped and turned back to her.
"Oh...um...What was the second one?" she asked, having been distracted by me.
"Oh ok...Anyone else? Mal?" Fairy Godmother tried again.
"C. Give it a bottle" Mal said simply before going back to her drawing. I squeezed Evie's hand to let her know I was ok.
"Correct. Again" Fairy Godmother said proudly.
At the looks the others gave her, Mal shrugged and said "Just pick the one that doesn't sound like any fun"
A chorus of "ooh" followed, making me laugh again. Evie poked me in the side, smiling, knowing I was back to normal already.
"Oh. Hello dear one" Fairy Godmother called. We all turned and saw a very frightened girl walking towards us wide-eyed.
"You need to sign me off for early dismissal for the coronation" she stammered.
"Everyone here remembers my daughter Jane?" Fairy Godmother said, despite Jane's protests. She quickly signed the document.
"It's okay Jane. This is everyone" Fairy Godmother said, gesturing to us.
Mockingly, I raised my hand and gave a slow wave. I think it terrified the girl more.
"Hi. Don't mind me. As you were." she said, as if speaking to rabid animals. Which sometimes wasn't too far off. Then she rushed out of the room as soon as she was clear of us.
Fairy Godmother tried to continue the lesson but that was before Jay and Carlos started fighting to answer her questions, now knowing the secret to answering correctly.
She suggested tourney. Personally, I suggest therapy. But what do I know?
While the boys went off to the tourney field, Evie went off to math. I walked her there, of course, giving her a kiss for good luck, before racing back to meet Mal in Art.
"You can't draw," she said bluntly as I sat down next to her.
"Ouch. Way to hurt my feelings." I teased.
"Besides, like anyone here is gonna get your stuff. I'm here for moral support." I said, puffing out my chest. It got the desired smile and good natured eye roll out of her so I considered that a win.
The art teacher set us all up in pairs. And with a look from us, made sure we were paired together. Today and tomorrow would be focused on portraits. One person would take the day to draw the other and vice versa tomorrow.
Mal quickly voted herself to draw me today.
"One of these days we need to do something like this with your hair actually down" Mal commented. I laughed, shaking my head, despite her protests.
"Oh no. Not in this lifetime" I joked. She rolled her eyes again.
"I'm thinking very Halloween Town esque today" Mal commented.
"Do as you will, I am but a simple peasant" I joked.
"Do you think we will pull this off?" Mal asked quietly after a few minutes. I hesitated in my answering causing her to look up.
"I think...whatever purpose we have coming here. We will exceed even our own expectations" I said, remaining relatively neutral on whether that would be getting the wand or not. Mal took it in before ultimately nodding and continuing her work.
About ten minutes before class ended, the teacher had people show their works. It might just be my own opinion, but Mal was the best one out of the bunch.
She had drawn me with a very exaggerated bone structure and thin like quality. Much like the creatures in Halloween Town. It had a very haunting quality to it. My hair was in the braid, but styled in a way that hid half of my face. Even the teacher complimented the 'commitment' to the style Mal was going for.
After that, it was time for my first class alone. Strategy and Tactics.
Walking into the classroom, it looked like everyone else was there. And it was all boys. And they were all staring. Lucky me. But Ben was there and he greeted me with a warm smile.
"Should a villain really be taking this class?" a blonde rather snootily said. Ben chastised him with a solid "Chad." He looked like a Chad.
"Should a pampered prince really be taking this class?" I fired back making the Chad character glare at me. I sat in the only seat available out of the 13 seats. Front and center.
The teacher didn't bat an eye in my presence as he walked in. He started class by clearing his throat and everyone quieted down. Wicked.
"We have a new strategist with us today. So we will start by doing what we did at the beginning of the semester. You will go around and state your name and your parentage. It is important for all pupils to know exactly who they are up against. Our newest student will go last." he instructed before nodding to a kid in the corner.
There were kids from all the famous stories. We had Ariel and Prince Eric's youngest son, Triton. Chad, turned out to be the son of Cinderella and Prince Charming. Name didn't really fit him to be honest. Ben reintroduced himself politely. Boys kept going around til we got to the last few before me.
"I'm Xavier. Son of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider." a boy two seats behind me said.
I choked on air. I think my heart stopped beating for a moment and I tensed up, using everything in me to make sure this was all inward and none of them saw.
He couldn't be. It wasn't possible! He was so close. I couldn't turn around, not yet. Finally it came my turn. Taking a deep breath, I made sure to amp up my outcastness. I leaned back in my seat and cocked my head, pulling out even a smirk for them.
"Belladonna. Orphan of the Isle" I said. It was met with silence.
"Pardon?" the teacher said.
"Orphan of the Isle. I don't have parents on the Isle" I explained simply.
"Who raised you?" a kid asked rather bluntly. Tiana and Naveen's I think.
"You're looking at her." I said, not turning to face him. The teacher nodded before starting the lesson.
"Today we will be discussing the battle between Ursula and Prince Eric and Princess Ariel. Triton, would you perhaps like to start. What did your parents do successfully? What could they have done better?"
Ohhh that's how this was going to go down. I was liking this class more and more.
"I think they did everything they could. Killing her wasn't an easy feet-"
"She's not dead" I interrupted him.
"My dad drove his own ship through her. I'm pretty sure that qualifies as dead." Triton said bluntly. I just smirked staring ahead. I could easily tell Triton would be like his namesake from the story. Commanding attention and respect. Of which, I would give neither.
"I'm pretty sure last week she sold me some truly abominable fish and chips. Her daughter is a particularly nasty creature. Best watch out if she ever comes on this side of the pond." I said cockily.
I didn't look at the various princes surrounding me. Giving them more than minimal attention gave them potential for power and advantage. Men always wanted attention from women. And I wanted the power.
"How about you say it to my face?" Triton said angrily. Got him.
"Nicely done Miss Belladonna" the teacher praised. He saw it too. The princes voiced their confusion.
"What Belladonna did was simple. She made you react to her. By not giving you the slightest look your way, you are now demanding for her to look at you. And she can use that to her advantage. How did you reach that idea Belladonna?" the teacher explained before asking me.
"Simple. I am the only female here. And while it might not always be the best tactic, using that femininity and the innate need for a man to impress a woman can be used to my own advantage. Did it all the time on the Isle." i said, thinking back to the days of taunting Harry Hook.
"Nicely done." the teacher praised.
I made sure to give myself a mental pat on the back.
"What would you do then Belladonna?" Ben prompted. This time I did turn to him.
"If I was Princess Ariel?" I affirmed, going back to our previous topic. He nodded. I turned and leaned back in my seat, thinking for a minute.
"Well the minute I took that kind of a deal from a sea witch to meet my human love interest, I'd probably find the nearest pad and pen to explain what the hell was going on" I said, albeit crudely.
"Language." the teacher warned.
"Pad and pen?" Chad mocked.
"Oh Hey Human Man, I'm the one who saved your life a couple days ago. I made a deal to be able to meet you at the cost of my voice" I said in a higher pitched voice, not looking at Chad this time either. I could feel the fumes.
"Like that would work." he muttered
"Works better than having every single female try on a shoe from a girl you danced and talked with for several hours." I mocked, alluding to his parents. I held up a hand as the teacher went to reprimand me.
"I apologize. That was a low blow. And was not part of our discussion." I said diplomatically.
"What if you weren't Princess Ariel?" Ben asked. I turned back to him confused.
"What would you do to Ursula as Belladonna?" he asked. I took a moment, truly thinking about it.
"I'd have aimed the ship better." I said morbidly. "Ursula isn't an enemy I would want to face a second time. And her daughter Uma?...twice as bad, `` I said. The princes took that in for a moment. Triton even went pale.
"Just my opinion though" I said, turning back in my seat, still not looking at the kid just a few seats behind me.
The conversation continued, more reaching to how one would avoid the power of Ursula's seashell.
"Ursula is one of the few true black witches in villain history. Only the lightest of magic can break her spells. What broke the one on Ariel? True Love's Kiss." I finished an argument with Chad when the bell rang. I finally stood up and turned to look at the boy.
I nearly threw up.
He was tall like me. Probably the same height as me when I was in heels. His hair was brown, slightly long on his head. His eyes were green. He was tan. We had the same nose. He was wearing white jeans, a black tshirt, and a purple shirt over it. And he had a kind smile. God he had my smile.
I had to leave the room as fast as I could. I heard Ben say my name but I ignored him.
I knew I pushed past quite a few people. There was a ringing in my ears. I ran into the girl's bathroom, towards the sink and turned on the cold water.
My bag dropped to the floor as I started splashing the water on my face, ignoring my ruined makeup.
The door opened suddenly and I turned but saw it was Evie.
I felt weak. I felt like a child again. When I saw her face, my knees gave out and I crumpled to the ground.
"Donna" I heard her softly cry out before I felt familiar and warm arms wrap around me and pull me to her chest. I clutched onto her as tight as I could. When did I start shaking? I felt my breath trying to force itself out of me.
"Donna what happened?" she asked, frightened. I don't think i ever looked less put together to her before. I didn't cry. It was like I was in shock. God the ringing wouldn't stop. Wait when did the ringing start? Before or after the shaking? Was I still shaking?
"I just met my brother Evie."
