I guess for now, that is all... On to the show!
Serenity's POV:
There was no denying that I had seen this part coming, somewhere in the back of my mind, I knew that I would one day be seen with Demetri, I just didn't think that it would have been so soon, much less from my dad and while I was injured. As soon as he had left us, my father carried me back to the main house as he placed me on one of the few white pieces of furniture before he then went in search of a few medical supplies, his whole being as cold as stone even as he dialed Carlisle, asking him if he could come home. Once they were done talking my dad snapped the phone shut as he returned to where I sat. I wasn't going to get out of this unscratched from what it looked like, and I was right as he opened his mouth to speak. "Why were you out there?" I shrugged my shoulders as I sighed, for some reason, I didn't feel the need to tell him that I've been hanging out with Demetri lately. Apparently, vampire genetics or not, dad didn't seem too thrilled by teenaged responses as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "Let's try this again Serenity. What in the world were you doing out there? And just how did you two meet?"
I shook my head as I cleared my throat; he was actually giving me the chance to explain myself – or rather he had no choice to but… "I was…" I paused knowing I had to say something, maybe even give a slight warning as he waited for my reply. "Promise you won't laugh dad." He rose an eyebrow but motioned for me to continue. "I was trying to get some fresh air and enjoy nature outside. It was too stuffy in my room and I thought that I would try looking for new hunting places while I was at it." His expression softened slightly and my pride took a hit as I sensed him chuckling on the inside. "So you thought it would be a perfect idea to hunt from somewhere high in a tree?" he was relentless in questioning as I nodded, making the gaping hole in my pride even wider with every passing minute. "It was a pretty good idea at the time, I mean there was the view of the Washington mountain range to think of along with the river that cuts into the woods. And at sunset, the golds can be lovely," I went on, my wall up the entire time that I talked. I really wasn't lying about the scenery since it always left me so mesmerized with the peacefulness that it gave off, however I was trying my best to keep both Demetri's as well as my own hide safe. Ah, the lengths of trouble that I get into, and it's never any of my doing!
Before dad could ask me anything else, I heard footsteps coming up from the driveway, my ears picking up the slight muffled jiggle of loose object tumbling inside of a box or a bag. A few seconds later, grandpa Carlisle came into sight as he placed a briefcase over a coffee table that we had in the living room. He still hadn't aged a day since we were born, I mused as he came over to stand beside my father. "What's the damage this time, Serenity?" he asked with an angelic smile as we went through our normal procedure. I had to laugh, at least because of how easy he made things feel. I wasn't sure if it was because of him creating my dad first that he seemed to see us as his own grandchildren or if it was the fact that our mother had given birth to us, but for whatever the case was, I was just glad that he wasn't harsh on my sister and me whenever we were his patients. With us growing up with our family, it was a learning experience for everyone since our human/vampire genetics tended to get in the way of things, making it interesting for our family doctor. And with it, came the game that grandpa Carlisle invented so that we could become familiar with a few medical terms and procedures for whenever we got hurt or sick.
Again I looked down as I took stock of the damage and pain that I was feeling, noting with surprising results that the burning tendrils had lessened, if only for the moment, and could now see the swelling as well as bruising around my ankle. An angry plum purple ringlet glared back at me as I shook my head, fearing for sure that it wasn't a sprained ankle. "there's no way that this looks pulled, and the pain's eased up a bit, but I don't think that it's going to be gone for long," I replied through gritted teeth, my breath inhaling sharply when my grandfather took a closer look at the sight. "May I?" he asked while turning it in a few different directions as I nodded, the burning returning as it held me paralyzed. "You guessed correct. I'm sorry to say this Serenity, but unfortunately, since both you and Renesmee share the same if not quicker healing abilities that the wolves do, we're going to need to reset your ankle so that it can heal properly." One word flew out of my mouth as I braced myself for what came next, my mind going blank as I tried to forget about the oncoming pain. "Okay."
Demetri's POV:
When I had later gone home, I saw that Jane taken up residence on the couch as she flipped consecutively through the channels, her attention nowhere near being on the TV. Her eyes shifted to me as she nodded at me in greeting before asking, "Isn't there anything to do around here? I feel like I'm dying in this sad and depressing little hole. It's that boring!" looking around for her brother and not finding him, I shook my head, resisting the urge to roll my eyes wondering how she could not have any interest for her surroundings, let alone the same amount of patience as Alec. "Why don't you go out and explore a bit, maybe try going to the shopping outlets?" I asked, hopping to some greater power that she'd leave and not bug me for the next century, if not that then at least for the next few hours. she seemed to have gone for it as she got up to grab coat when she suddenly turned her head back at me, her eyes flickering with warning and certainty, "just so we're clear, if we go back home empty-handed and if Aro takes this out on the wrong person like my brother for instance, then I promise you Demetri, that there will be hell to pay for it. Whether this mission is considered over or not." She paused as she waited for the message to sink in before adding with an angelic smile, "I shouldn't be gone more than a day." And left, her threat getting through loud and clear.
It wasn't too long after that that Alec had walked through the door, entering with a much more cheery expression than the one that his sister had left with. Finally he showed up, for a moment I had wondered what I was going to tell his sister if he didn't return, fearing that Jane would make well on her promise. I sighed as I replayed my last moments with serenity, wondering how I could move forward with our plan without tipping off the Cullen clan. Alec seemed to pick up on my mood as he stepped back asking, "What now?" I shook my head, thinking better than to worry them with this new turn of events. Instead, I decided to answer with a different thought. "She really needs to learn when to accept help from someone," he nodded his head as he knew who I was referring to. "Should I even ask as to what could have happened now?"
I shook my head as I gave him a quick explanation, his eyes becoming bright with amusement as he coughed back a bark of laughter. "Well then…" I nodded as I ducked my head away from him. "I see we now know which side of the family that the gene runs in," he muttered when I didn't reply. I turned back to him, puzzled by his comment, my brain trying to figure out what he meant by that. "Which side it runs in…? What do you mean?" I asked, seriously worried that I might be missing some information. Alec smiled now as he turned away from me, his hands clasped behind his back as he edged closer to the kitchen, my feet trailing after him. "Really now Demetri, I'm a little disappointed." I fought to keep my anger at bay, wondering what it was that he could be hiding this time. "Just spit it out already Alec, I'm not in the mood for games," I grounded out. He shook his head as he sighed, turning back to me. "You really do take out all the fun sometimes, you know that?" he grumbled before continuing. "Anyhow, I've heard that back in the day, one of the Cullen members was quite accident-prone and was able to attract trouble wherever they went. I hadn't really thought much of it before, since it doesn't really help me but if it is the case, then it might mean something to you." He added as he shrugged his shoulders.
A chilled seemed to worm its way down my spine as I heard his words, and suddenly I felt anxious, hoping that Alec was wrong as my mind pictured Serenity all alone with the figment of a ravenous ghostly vampire.
Serenity's POV:
Looking back, the word 'hurt' doesn't even compare the way I was feeling now as I glimpsed back to the brightly pink gauzed colored bandages that held my foot, as well as my ankle, captive in a cocoon of plaster. It was just for two and a half days, but the timing itself was killing me. My father insisted that I use crutches until I was fully healed, but I didn't see any chance of that happening anytime soon as I hobbled my way up the stairs in hopes of getting away to my room. Quickly scanning the hallway for any rude or obnoxious uncles, my eyes drifted over to a very familiar door, as I slowly made my way over to my bedroom. Aside from this morning's mishap, luck seemed to be on my side as I made it without incident to my fluffy cloud of a bed. Goodness, it's surprising what simple little pleasures in life, such as a mattress, could do for the body… I sighed while thinking quietly as I sat down, my hand automatically reaching for my phone and tapping onto the screen.
There were no new messages and that didn't surprise me, but for some reason, it left me a little disappointed. Turning over onto my side with my unbroken foot, I grabbed my pillow and went under the blankets to sleep, maybe there would be something better waiting for me in my dreams…
It was dark and cloudy when I woke up, the moon hidden behind the trees and incoming clouds as I walked through the empty shadows of the hallways. My hand reached for one of the switches, but it didn't matter because the lights didn't seem to be working. How weird… where is everyone? I asked myself as I waited to hear some form of life from within our home. However hard I tried, there was no one there, no Uncle Emmett or Aunt Rose, no mom or dad, Aunt Alice or Uncle Jasper, not even Jake or Nessie. I was alone. The only thing that seemed to make any sound at all was my breathing and the echoing thumping from my cast as I made my way down the stairs. Out of nowhere, something dark darted by, my eyes barely catching the movement as it zipped into the kitchen before going into the living room.
A chill ran up my spin, while dread coiled in the pits of my stomach as I pushed my feet to move forward, my mind trying to reason with me that it has to be the trick of the lighting, or the lack there of. I swallowed back trying to clear the lump from my throat as I tried to calm down; this wasn't a time to be running away, it wasn't like me. I hedged close along the wall, my fingers running slowly across its surface in front of me as a means of guidance before finally I had reach the end of my rope, the kitchen stood before me, and the dark shadow somewhere in the living room. From somewhere upstairs, a door creaked closed as lightning struck outside, the glass glimmering with momentary light as I looked for the dark object. As I counted the number of beats in my head, thunder roared to life as it rocked the clearing with sound, the storm being no more than a few miles off from where the house stood. Again, the shadow darted within sight, only now it had slowed its pace and a figure began to take shape. It wasn't an animal, in fact it was wraithlike in form, and yet it seemed almost familiar.
Marveling at the thing, my feet seemed to stop working as I remained glued in place, with nowhere to go and nowhere to run. Its keen hallowed gaze glowed with stagnant interest, and as if sensing me dead in my tracks, it ghosted towards me, sending gooseflesh trailing up and down my skin. 'No!' a silent plea forming as a soft whimper. My moth didn't want to work, it couldn't work, and I had no way to escape.
'Please! Please stop!' a part of my mind begged as its hand reached out to me, my body flinching back as it tried to touch my face, a slight snarl forming on its lips in dismay. Lightning flashed again and I hated what I saw in front of me, as I wonder what could have led the horrible being to become the way it was as a few sharp teeth protruded from its open jaws. 'Please, please!' and yet as ghastly as it appeared, it pained me more to see him this way as his icy tendril like fingers then went towards my neck, pulling me closer to him, pulling me closer to it. 'I'm sorry Julian…' I could feel my throat closing in on me as he brought his lips close to my exposed neck, the cold searing my skin as death waited to greet me, and regret freezing my heart…..
I gasped awake, my fingers quickly flying to my throat in a panic; A dream, it was only a dream, my mind advised as reassuringly as possible while I checked for any injuries. Aside from my broken leg there were none, not even bite marks to prove what had happened, only blankets and sheets that seemed to be all tangled up.
AN: Please forgive the shortness of the chapter, I know I'm a terrible person, however I'd like to know your thoughts on what you've just read. I was also wondering if any of you felt as chilled as Seren did and whether or not to pursue adding more scenes like this one. ;) anyway, I guess I'll get back to work ;D
