I don't like driving, but I never realized how much I would miss my car if I got it taken away. I was actually ready to drive just because I had the damn option to do so. I was feeling so nice and generous that after my morning jog and shower, I walked into my sister's room to offer her a ride. "Hello, whore. Guess who's not on probation anymore?"
She didn't even look my way, she was too invested in her phone. After the lacrosse game last weekend, Scott somehow made up to Allison even though she was never even mad to begin with. I rolled my eyes at the very thought. I do not attempt to sibling bonding to be ignored for the likes of Scott. I want to throw up at the thought.
"So do you want a ride to school or not?" I kissed my teeth when she ignored me again. So would I be wrong to make her drive herself? Well no, I guess that is the reason she has her own car but still. If I'm being nice, do NOT ignore me!
I stared at her for a few more seconds. Okay so she's going to keep ignoring me, fine. I ran up to her bed and jumped right on top of her, making sure my hands and knees hit her where it hurts.
After all the wind was knocked out of her she jumped up and swung at me, but missed. "What the hell, Jos?"
"What the hell, me? What about you. You're all in looooove," I made sure my voice was thick with attitude and resentment when I spoke.
"Oh, please," she responded, giving me an extremely exaggerated eye roll.
I didn't even respond, instead I walked out and into the next door over into my room. I quickly got dressed so I could beat Allison out of the house. I should take her keys or something but I'm not that petty. When I went downstairs for my coffee, my mom was at the counter flipping through a newspaper. What an old person thing to do…
"What's wrong with you?" Ahhh, moms know when something is wrong all the time.
"Allison is just annoying. And everyone blames me for us not being close." I started to sip from the mug my mother had slid over to me.
"Honey, your not really close to anyone." She chuckled but I didn't find anything funny. "She's ever been into a boy before, if that's the problem. Don't be jealous."
"Of?" I recanted immediately. I'm not even going to get into how I would never be jealous of Allison. I don't want Scott or anyone like him. Imagine leaving your girlfriend at a party in a town she's new in. I'll never get over that. She met a boy that night that completely ignored her and I met a stranger that looked out for me.
I forgot his name already but I wouldn't forget that face. I had yet to see a boy in school that I was so attracted too. As I swallowed the last bit of my caffeine, I remembered that I wanted to find him again. Maybe I'll do that. I placed my cup in the sink and grabbed my keys. "Bye mom."
I didn't forget to look for my little mystery boy today, in fact I was so desperate that I was going to bring it up to Lydia. She made sure to grab me when lunch was starting. I barely go to lunch because, ew- school food. Lydia is lydia; I'll never be completely okay with her until she proves to me she's actually not the self serving asshole that I think she is. I hold grudges until people prove the assumptions I made about them wrong. Period.
At the lunch table there was Lydia, Jackson, his gay best friend Danny, and me. I noticed my sister who was making her way over with Scott who had some boy that looked oddly familiar trailing behind him. There goes having Lydia's attention to myself. I'll never find out about this kid apparently.
"I hope you're feeling better this morning," Allison smirked at me as she sat down. I shot my own cheeky smile right back at her.
"No, you guys do not get to not include me on the little sisterisms," Lydia said, looking between us two. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing." I said quickly. One thing I don't do is tell my twin and I's business. Lydia hummed in response and turned to give a judging look to both Scott and his buddy. I turned to them too, looking the boy with the beauty marks up and down.
"So…," she started, "and you are?"
Mole boy looked flustered off that one question. Everyone at the table was looking at him and it obviously wasn't making his condition any better. I couldn't help but laugh at him. The people in this town are just weird.
"Uhhh, m-my name is Stiles," he struggled to get out. That's a name alright. Lydia pressed her lips together and nodded slowly. Way to make this table extremely awkward.
"So did you guys hear about that dead guy they found?" Danny changed the subject quickly, but I wasn't sure I was up for the new topic, either. He finished, "I think it was a cougar or something. People have just been saying it's some kind of animal attack."
"I heard it was a mountain lion," Jackson said from the end of the table.
"A cougar is a mountain lion," Lydia was quick to correct him. We all looked at her because that was extremely out of character. Holy shit, is Lydia not an actual dumb blonde? "Isn't it?"
Nevermind. Smart or not, pretending to be dumb for a boy is never ever cute. People like me out here are dumb for real! I'm so dumb I didn't even know they found a body on campus but to be fair, I've been zoned out all day- per usual.
"Who cares what or who it was; the guy was probably some homeless tweaker anyway," Jackson spit out in a dismissive tone. I scowled at him. Him and Lydia are clearly perfect for each other.
"Who cares? What the fuck is wrong with you? That could've been anybody, mountain lion or not!" I said, earning my own sneer in return.
The whole thing reminded me of the kid I met telling me he was checking up on me because there was a murderer on the loose. You would think my parents would look into this creepy ass murderous town before moving their two teenage daughters here.
Lydia decided to change the subject, "So what are we doing tonight?" She directed the question to Allison and Scott and they both shared the same puzzled look. Lydia noticed and added, "You two said you were hanging out tonight, right?"
Allison, being the nice little people pleaser that she is said, "We were thinking about what we were going to do…."
I looked over to Scott and somebody immediately caught my attention. A really tall someone hunched over and walking like he was trying to keep to himself. I recognized that tensed up walk. The last thing I heard was Jackson say, "stabbing myself in the eye."
They clearly didn't need me for that conversation any longer. After I hopped up, I moved around the tables to get closer to the edge of the cafeteria where that boy was sitting. He had his head down and his hood up so you could barely see his face. I think I saw a little peep of those light brown curls coming out from the top of his hoodie. I sat down across from him and tapped my finger on the table.
He looked up quickly, barely lifting his head but just enough for me to notice that black eye he was sporting. As soon as we locked eyes I knew he recognized me because of how wide they immediately got. I didn't even get a chance to speak before he hopped up and walked out of the cafeteria, his long legs taking him the distance before I could even get up and react. Well so much for that…
"So what was up with that weirdo?" Lydia asked me later on as we all sat in my bedroom after school. Allison perked up at her question, clearly she was just as nosey but wasn't comfortable asking me questions. She knew I was the first to keep all of my business to myself- the complete opposite of her.
"I don't know actually. Don't worry about it. What are you guys wearing?" Lydia spun in the jeans and sweater she had on as a response to my question. They were only going bowling and bowling isn't fun unless you can get wasted so I wasn't too interested in their little "Group date."
Allison got up and went over to my floor mirror. "Is this okay? It's just bowling, right?"
Lydia rolled her eyes very noticeably, "Just bowling? Allison my faith in your style is dwindling by the second." She's such a bitch!
I scoffed at her as my sister and I gave each other eyes. At least I know I'm not the only one who thinks her comments are crazy. I said, "Didn't you want to be her friend by what she was wearing?"
Lydia turned to me, "that's why I said dwindling by the second. You guys are twins, can't you just get an outfit from Jocelyn." She walked over to my closet and went through some of the things I had hanging up- without my permission by the way. Okay friend.
"Here, wear this." She handed Allison a cropped cardigan. Allison would never.
"With what underneath?" Allison asked as if she was appalled.
I laughed at her. "Girl you don't wear anything underneath. This is a real paige from charmed moment, don't disrespect my clothes." I got up and took my hanger back from Lydia and moved to hang it back up.
"Hey, ," I heard her say, and turned to see my dad in the doorway of my room. He was putting on a jacket like he was about to leave. Hopefully he would take my mom with him so I could have the house to myself- not that I was having any company but I do love being home alone.
Wow, I really need a life.
My dad came in to tell Allison she wasn't going out. I was totally expecting her to comply like the good girl she was, but as soon as my dad left she made it a goal to jump out of the window- in a back flip! Allison took gymnastics when we were younger.
I was impressed but I did think it was more practical to use the stairs like Lydia did….Anyways, I really don't care. I had the house to myself!
Time to leave the bathroom naked, blast music, AND eat whatever the hell I want.
Being home alone in a quiet ass house made me fall asleep super early. So early that the slightest noise woke me up at like four in the morning. I hope it aint that "mountain lion."
4:23am. What the fuck. I got up from the lying position I was in and slipped some slippers onto my feet. I could hear someone moving around downstairs. I grabbed a knife I kept in my bedside drawer and gripped it tightly.
I know Allison isn't just now getting in. If so, Scott is really turning her into me. When I left my room I quickly opened her door and stuck my head into her room.
No, she was sound asleep in her bed. Hm. I backed out and tiptoed to the top of the stairs. There was someone there, but they were leaving. I squinted my eyes to see it was just my dad. I sighed. "Dad, where are you going?"
My voice startled him. He looked guilty like he had just got caught. I hope to God he isn't cheating on my mother. "Nothing; your aunt Kate is on her way here and just had some car troubles."
"What happened? Is she okay?" I loved my aunt. She is travelling bachelorette just like I aspire to be. I think she's coming to town because my sister and I's birthday is coming up.
"Just a flat tire. Go back to bed."
"Can I come?"
My dad opened the door and put one foot out. "I'm already ready to go, Jos. Just go back to bed, you'll see her in the morning."
Before I could even protest, he closed the door behind him. Well fine then. I turned around and started back towards my room.
"What happened?" Allison said from the shadows, giving me the worst jumpscare of my life. I literally shouted. Why would she try to give me a heart attack this late?
"Kate is on her way. She had a flat so dad is going to pick her up."
"Oh."
I walked past her and into my room. I'm taking my ass back to bed.
I woke up early like always and was about to leave for my morning jog when I remembered my dad saying that my aunt was here. I gave myself a detour and Ran around the first floor to the guest room in the back of the house. There she was in all her tall, smoking hot brunette glory.
"Oh my god!" I shouted, running into her so we could embrace. Kate should've been my sister, if I'm being honest but I know that us two together as the same age would be such a problem.
Kate pulled back, still holding me she said, "You are so fucking gorgeous I'm jealous."'
I rolled my eyes at her with an uncontrollable grin. "I look like you, nice try."
"I wish I looked like you! Please tell me you're already making these boys worship the ground you walk on!"
My mind wandered to the boy who was avoiding me after I gave him a ride home and all. I'm sure there has been boys looking at me in school, but I prefer to be the girl that everyone wants but can't have. But me? I have to get what I want. And I wanna know more about my timid little friend.
"Hellooooo?" My aunt waved a hand in front of my face which snapped me back into reality.
I laughed and got back into the conversation. "I don't pay attention to those things...All I really want is that Katana."
"Ohhh, I think I can help you with that. Trust in your aunt," She said in a low tone with a huge smirk. We both started to laugh and it felt so good to finally be around someone that I could be free to be myself around. I barely get to talk to my father nowadays and there was so much weird vibes in this town and with the people I felt like I had to be on edge.
"So is everything okay with the car?" I asked to change the subject.
"Yeah, I just needed a jumpstart." Wait, what? Did my dad not say flat tire?
"Oh my Gosh!" Allison came from around the corner and ran to also give my aunt a hug. I moved aside and let them embrace as well. I looked at the clock and saw that time was tickinggg. If I was going to school then I had to start getting ready now. But did I really want to go?
Nahh.
"I think I'm going to skip today...Allison are you joining?" I announced, wiggling my brows at her.
"I can be late but I won't skip," she replied in a timid tone. My aunt and I shared a look of annoyance. See? We should've been the sisters and Allison should've been the aunt!
"Now she can't skip but she definitely snuck out of the house and through the window!" I told Kate, leaning in and raising my brows in a way that would say 'can you believe that.'
"Shut up!" She threw a look of disbelief at Allison who was blushing tomato red.
"To meet a boy!" I further explained, cackling at myself.
"Oh my god, stop." Allison placed her hands at her temples and smiled at us both. My aunt was living for this tea and I was loving her reaction. "Ugh, do you need help unpacking?"
As Allison reached to grab at a duffel bag on the guest bed, Kate reached out and grabbed her hand with killer instinct. "Not that one!" She snapped, shocking my twin and I. Immediately she tried to play it off by saying, "See? You turn out beautiful and I get a Kung Fu death glare." All my sister could do was chuckle dryly as she rubbed where Kate had gripped her.
My eyes moved towards the duffle. Kate is being Kate but that and the car situation was definitely weird. I don't need the only things familiar to me changing up.
I definitely need to get in that bag.
I think I'm going to fully embrace 1st person POV by leaving cliffhangers where I want them to be. BTW rewatching season one has made me miss how good the show was. Season 3b was my fave until I started season 1 again now I don't know.
What you guys favorite season or story line/moment on the show. I've watched every season multiple times so I'm damn near an expert.
