"Jocelyn Katherine Argent!" I can't believe my mom is really on this shit right now. "Please explain to my have you more absences than actual times you were in school."

"Because I don't go to school."

"Do you think that's cute? You have midterms coming up!" My mother was actually seething right now- I could see the veins all in her forehead and neck. It was actually kind of frightening.

"Do you think I need to skip school to be cute?" I couldn't help but laugh at that one.

Momma slammed a hand on our marble counters, not even flinching at the hard contact. I swear she was crazy as hell. "Jocelyn," she said in a stern tone, "If you miss one more class I swear to God I will make your life hell!"

"You already doooooo," I dragged out my words disrepectfully, exagerating my face and everything to go along with it. My mother snatched my arm and pulled me closer to her. The action shocked me enough to shut me the hell up.

"You will attend every class and ace those midterms! Even if you have to spend every waking moment studying in the library," she ordered in a menacing tone, never breaking piercing eye contact. I was too shook to even move. Then she smiled and let me go as if nothing had happened, "And with the new cameras your grandfather is having installed I will see to it."

I can not believe that I am in a library studying. Like who the hell actually studies? I honestly don't care because you know who doesn't? Me. And there really is cameras all over the school- one pointing right at me as I pretended to write shit down from this textbook. What I was really writing was how annoying and crazy my mother was.

Then, just my luck, Scott, Stiles, Allison, Jackson, Erica, and this boy named Matt file into the otherwise empty library. I already know I'm going to somehow get dragged into whatever little mess they have going on. Harris is the teacher following them smugly. He starts to point out seating for the group until Jackson interjects, "We can't be in detention together. I have a restraining order against these tools."

"All of these tools?" Harris motions towards the rest of the room. I can't believe all of them were in detention. Now I kind of want to know what I missed. I didn't know who to ask considering I barely got along with anyone in the room and there was a camera pointed right at me.

"Just us tools," Stiles pointed at both himself and Scott so Mr. Harris moved them to sit at the table next to me and instructed Erica to sit right across from me. Bring on the tension.

"Miss. Argent," the teacher said to me, "I hope you are studying for the makeup exam you owe me. I'm sure you dont mind sitting in on this detention."

I gave the asshole a strained smile and turned back to my book as he got settled in the librarians chair. I was just going to ignore Erica's presence at my table until she whispered, "I didn't think he was that dumb."

"What?" I shot back quickly, feigning confusion but considering how these motherfuckers work, she probably knew I was talking about Isaac.

"A few times at night he has this smell all over him. I'm not around you enough to know its you. But now- when I can still smell him on you, too- you're both idiots."

Yo I take showers at night and in the morning. If she can smell Isaac on me and we barely touched, I wonder what else wolves can smell...anyway back to this nosey ass girl. "I don't know what you're talking about."

She chuckled, looking up from the book she was into and giving me a scowl. "I know you're trying to play him to get to us. I will kill you. He's more than just a pack mate. He's like my brother."

"I dont give a fuck if he was your real brother, bitch," I leaned further across the table so that we were close enough for me to be just as threatening. "Mind your business and there won't be a problem."

"There's already a problem." She growled out in response. Her challenge made me want to go to Isaac right now and seduce the fuck out of him.

"That's fine by me," I returned a petty smile her way and fell back into my seat, never breaking eye contact. The only thing that broke our staring contest was Jackson jumping out of his seat and rushing out to the bathroom with the teacher hot on his heels.

Seconds after the door closed, Scott and Stiles were in the seats next to Erica and I quicker than I could get up. They both glanced up at me. "Where are you going?" Stiles asked.

"I don't have detention- I ain't staying in this bitch. Have fun." I gathered my things and locked eyes with Erica one more time. "Don't try me."

The next night was a boring Saturday, and when my father ordered both my twin and I into the car, I wasn't sure if it was wolf business or sisters fighting business. My parents barely got invo0lved in our relationship issues- but they also barely ever told Allison and I the same things since this wolf shit became relevant.

"Are we going to the hospital?" Allison asked from the back seat as we passed a road sign.

"Duh," I said just to be petty. I didn't see her reaction, but I did notice my dad shaking his head in annoyance at our bickering. I could care less because we were pulling into the hospital. Without a word, my dad opened the car door and buttoned his trench coat, flashing his green eyes at the two of us as if to say 'follow me.'

Allison and I got out of the car with another word, and fell into formation as we walked through the bustling hospital. Somehow my dad had enough pull for us to strut through the hospital without earning a second glance from any of the nurses. My dad didn't speak as we turned corners and began to trickle into a much less populated and lesser lit area of the hospital. A big dark sign in the corner read 'morgue'.'

He used a key to unlock the door, and held it open for Allison and I to come inside after him. There were two bodies on a table covered by a white sheet. No matter what, I still couldn't get used to the idea of death and dead bodies. My dad immediately approached the body to the right, reading the tag, "This one; Shawn. Sean was killed by this thing Gerard says is a kind of shapeshifter that hasn't been around for centuries."

"Kanima," I say quickly, and totally not just to beat Allison to the punch.

"So you know?" He glanced at Allison too with piercing eyes, who was trying to look as if she was surprised. She shakes her head slowly, but her fidgeting was visible to me so I know it was visible to our father. He nodded, moving to the other body. "This one... Jessica. She was smothered to death after giving birth. The police think it was done by someone else. We think it's a person who controls the other shapeshifter. That means two killers. One human. One not."

"What happened to the baby?" Allison's question was surprising to me, only because the baby part completely went over my head- I didn't know there was a master to the Kanima. But then again, Allison did say "the kanima seeks a friend" So maybe that's what she meant. It's hard not wanting to be around her but she always seems to know things first lately.

"Social services is looking for next of kin," My dad stalked around the bodies, casually fingering the sheets covering them. "It was a girl, by the way." That type of rhetoric would effect Allison more than me. I wasn't heartless but I wasn't exactly the family type. His next words were for me, "You know the question I had when Gerard first told me about our family? Why us? He quoted me Winston Churchill: The price of greatness is responsibility." He kept his eyes trained on the both of us, and while my sister refused to make eye contact- I held his gaze to show I was listening. He continued, grabbing at the sheet as if he was going to rip it off, "Personally, I think it's more about knowledge. What we know-the truth we know about the world-that makes us responsible. For a young couple. Their newborn daughter. Anyone who doesn't have the power to defend themselves. Do you get it'?"

Allison stepped forward with confidence in her voice, "Is this an interrogation?"

"I saw the footage from the library. The cameras didn't catch everything, but do you really think a little high school fight can explain that amount of damage?"

"Does he…. Know about Scott?"

I kissed my teeth, rage came over me for a hot second and I turned to face my sister, "We're standing in front of two dead bodies and all you can think about is Scott? I swear to God you are nothing without him-"

"Oh, here you go!" She interjected, throwing her hands up in defeat. "I'm trying to live my life-"

"A Double life," I said knowingly, making her shut up quickly. She glanced at my father and then back at me, shaking her head to herself with her mouth slightly agape like she does. There was silence between the three of us before she stormed out of the room. Her defiance gave me a bigger insentive to want to step up for the both of us.

"What do you need?" I asked my father. "I can do this."

My dad brings himself from the other side of the room to stand across from me, looking me dead in the eye like he does before he is going to say something serious. "We need to find out who is controlling the kanima."

Something very clearly stuck out to me about a previous conversation I had with my father. Choosing enemies for their intellect. I couldn't exactly say Scott was the enemy- but I did know he had intellect- well as much as you could expect from his dumb ass. So, I would take a page out of Allison's book and work with him and better than her because I didn't have surveillance or suspicions about attractions to a certain wolf and yes we are still only talking about Scott.

That's why the next night I found myself driving him to his job to meet with his boss who I remembered to be the one giving my dad and grandpa the information about a henchman Jackson killed. He said Derek was on the way, and tried to make sure I was okay with that which I obviously wasn't but I had to play along for the sake of it. I still came locked and loaded!

Scott and I stood at the door until Derek pulled up in his sexy black Camaro. I noticed Isaac's head and shoulder peek up from above the passenger side right away and my heart skipped a few beats. "You okay? I'll protect you if anything." Scott said as soon as he heard, making me roll my eyes before he even finished his sentence.

"I'm fine," I said with attitude, cocking my head to give him an upturned lip.

"What's she doing here?" Derek gave me a snarky once over, which I gladly returned.

"I'm here as his backup- considering he's the one constantly getting my sister in trouble and my parents would never suspect that I'm helping him. Plus, I keep getting unwillingly getting dragged into ya'll bullshit so is it not right I get firsthand knowledge?" Derek looked me up and down, and walked past me without another word when I finished my rant. Just how I like it.

"What's he doing here?" Scott asked, nodding towards Isaac with his own snarky look.

"I need him," Derek answered plainly.

"I don't trust him."

"Well he doesn't trust you." When Isaac walked past me he didn't even give me a second glance. Okay big boy we gonna pretend for the Alpha.. So much for being strong and cocky huh.

"And Derek doesn't care." Derek glared at me again as if he was just adding some good measure and said, "Where's the vet? Is he going to help us or not?"

The doctor rounded the corner at his words with his arms crossed, "That depends- your friend Jackson - are you going to kill him or save him."

"Kill him." Both Derek and I spoke in unision, glancing at each other as we did with hate in our eyes but also maybe...some commradery? No just hate.

"Save him," Scott said through gritted teeth, giving me a wide eyed and annoyed expression. Okay I might have lied about my intentions.

"Save him," I muttered, giving the doctor a reluctant shrug. Derek rolled his eyes too but gave his own relucatant nod. That was enough for Scott and he led us into the back where the Doctor was standing. I fell into line behind Derek and in front of Isaac, who I had yet to give a second glance too. But as I walked I felt a tickle on the small of my back which I recognized to be a hand. He dragged his finger down my spine as I walked, almost making me convulse right then and there. He knew what the hell he was doing.

We lined up around the table- Isaac making sure to plant himself in beteween Derek and I, and for once I felt like the sheepish one. I couldn't even stop shuffling my feet and forget about trying to slow down my heart rate. As Deaton began to place glasses on the table, Isaac's hand closest to me found its way on my thigh where he fake a gripping motion and just as easily played it off by leaning forward and reaching to touch what the vet had placed on the table.

Derek caught his hand with a glare, "watch what you touch."

"Exactly," I said knowingly, earning a few confused glances but Isaac knew what the hell I meant. I couldn't tell if I liked being teased like this- it was not something I'd ever experienced and to think it was coming from him? Lord.

I got back to business watching Deaton shuffle through his options on the examination table. He leaned back with a defeated sigh, "Unfortunately, I'm not sure if anything here is going to be an effective defense against a paralytic toxin."

"Okay so what's an effective-" I glanced at Scott's soft ass, "non lethal offense."

"Listen Argent, I nearly ripped its head off and your father emptied an entire clip into it. The thing just gets back up. If anything, I think it's getting stronger." Dereks words definitely sent chills through my spine and not the same as Isaac's hands did.

"You're telling me this thing has no weaknesses?" There was a silence to my questions as everyone in the room thought for a second.

"Well besides being afraid of water," Scott suggested, "But that makes no sense- Jackson is captain of the swim team."

We go back to silence and thinking until Deaton turns to grab an old scratched pendant from a drawer and holds it up to the four of us. It's a seated man sorrouned by a snake that he holds by the throat. "You are trying to catch two people. A pupper and a puppeteer."

"Which is why who ever is controlling him had to kill the mother because Jackson didn't. But why?" I asked aloud, remembering what happened with my dad and Allison.

"Jackson's mom did die while she was pregnant- maybe he couldn't do the same," Scott theorized from the side of me, looking to us for approval.

"But that would mean Jackson had some kind concious while he was the kanima which I thought he didnt," Isaac said, earning a nod from me. Then it all kind of clicked.

"My grandfather said the Kanima plays by very specific rules."

"He only kills murderers."

"Your dad?" I asked cautiously and a hint of the sad Isaac appeared in his eyes, and a clenched jaw brought menacing Isaac back just as quick as he disspeared.

"I wouldn't be surprised." Damn. "But the beastiery did say if the bond was strong enough the kanima would kill whoever it wanted."

"So then whoever is controlling Jackson has to be afraid of water."

"So is whatever affects the master affects the kanima, does that mean whatever affects the kanima affects the master?"

A light seemed to go off in Deatons head and as he turned around to grab something again, Isaac and I looked at each other after that exchange we shared. We kind of just figured it all out together and I couldn't help but murmur, "good team."

A smirk settled on his face but it wasn't enough to make me not notice the looks in both Scott and Derek's faces. I turned back to Deaton as if nothing had happened. He was holding another jar. Without a word he began to pour an ash like substance around the pendant. "It that's true…."

"Then we can catch him," I said for him. "Both of them."

School was uneventful and boring, besides my twin and I sniping at each other any kind of chance we got. My mother was being extra nosey following me around to make sure I was in class that Allison actually felt safe to be more open around Scott. She was ruining my plan to get close to him. And ew- no not that close don't make me barf.

It was fine- I knew from him that there was a secret rave, he would be there, Stiles, Allison would be there, Jackson would be there and that meant I would be there an unbeknownst to Scott- So would my dad. Getting all this extra info was definitely getting me brownie points! I couldn't wait to get home and get ready to fake party but also kick some ass.

Once school was over I all but rushed to my car, I jumped in and got ready to pull off right away until I realized Isaac was sitting casually in my passenger seat!

"What the fuck!"

He looked at me through the side of his eye as if I was overreacting or something. "Relax. I just came to check up on you."

I scoffed, still continuing to drive towards my house. "Time and time again it's like you're not understanding I am not your girlfriend."

"Not yet." I sent an eye roll his way and didn't respond. He smiled and leaned back comfortably in my seat like he belonged there.

"Not ever. What do you really want?"

"Do you have a ticket for the rave?"

"Do you see me? I don't need a ticket," I said with as much cockiness that he usually spoke with.

"Well, luckily for both of us you don't have to flirt your way in." He pulled a ticket from his leather jacket and stuck it into the passenger side sun visor. It was hard to hold back my smile. Isaac had a way of trying to please and tease me that was extremely flattering for a girl like me. I could never be with a Scott.

"You don't want to see me with anybody else, huh," I teased, finally giving in and sending a smirk his way. He chuckled to himself and with a flick of his hand, his claws came out.

"Well for his sake I'd hope not."

I pulled over before I started getting too close to my house. For his sake. Shit. "I draw the line at the wolf threats. Out." He tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, and for a minute everything seemed to stop as we looked at each other. I couldn't even process what was going on in my mind. He could easily put me into a trance.

"I'll see you tonight," he said before getting out. I watched him take off running into the woods. Fuck me. In that way too.

Once I was home, it was back to business. I threw my bookag down, showered and changed in minutes before making my way to the basement where my dad, granfather, and henchman were all circled around a table in the middle of the room with a layout of the warehouse the rave woud be in sat. "I have a ticket," I announced to the group, and my dad gave an approving nod.

"So the party is in this warehouse just outside the industrial sector," my father began annoucning, starting to make his way around the table as he spoke. "Jackson Whittemore will be there seeking his next victim. My daughter will there to watch and signal when he is at an optimal point where he can be taken down."

I stood up confidently, taking a deep breath before I began to speak. "There's two entrances where Jackson can be led as far as way as possible. No-one knows what he's capable of right now so I want even fire power on each side, but always be ready to move if needed. I'll give a signal-"

"What is this?" The whole room turned to see my sister, looking innocent as ever in a cute yellow dress standind at the middle of the steps. She was so annoying.

"A trap," My father answered quickly, "I know you will be there and all I need from you is to backup your sister."

"Backup-" I tried to protest but he shot me a look that shut me up immediately.

"So she's going to lead a whole attack and I'm just the backup?"

"Allison," my dad gave her the same look and stern voice, "I need you both to be safe. You can go."

She sighed but still stomped up the steps, slamming the door in the process. The attention was back on me, and I felt oddly comfortable being in charge of all these men. I see why Kate and my mother are the way they are. "Just to be clear- a creature like Jackson- we are not trapping." Gerard locked eyes with me, giving me an intense stare. "We're going to kill him."
