"Dear Chat Noir, ever since I met you, I've had three suns in my heart." Marinette recited passionately, as the superhero's eyes widened. What on earth did he get dragged into?
"They shine so brightly that whenever I see you, they make me melt until the slightest thought has reduced to droplets!" She placed her hand on her heart.
"Those suns are only three little words, but they're burning my lips! Please soothe me, Chat Noir, and tell me that you love me as much as I love you—"
"Uh, Marinette?" Chat Noir interrupted, wincing. "Sorry, I'm really flattered, but, like I told you, I'm not in love with anyone."
"Of course!" She rolled her eyes in annoyance. "I'm not talking to you! This is for the boyfriend who's not really my boyfriend yet!"
"Ah, got it!" He still didn't really get what they were doing. "But since you said Chat Noir, I thought you were actually talking to me."
"Oh right, shoot! Can't you just pretend?" She pondered.
"That's a little weird… Well, what's your boyfriend's name?"
"Uh— that's private...!" Marinette exclaimed, as Chat Noir groaned.
"That's not going to make things any easier. You can trust me."
"You sure you won't tell anyone?" Chat Noir looked up at her with puppy eyes (or what was an attempt at them, anyway).
"Pinky promise," He raised his little finger and linked it with Marinette's as he waited patiently and expectantly.
"…It's…" Marinette started. Chat Noir encouraged her.
"This is the part where you tell me his name, just in case you didn't know."
"Yes, I know, Chat!" She cried in frustration. "It's… it's… Adrien."
"Adrien…" Chat Noir pondered for a moment. That's my name! But she can't be talking about me. "Adrien who?"
"What do you mean, Adrien who?" Marinette's eyebrows furrowed together. "My friend from school, model, son of the world's most famous fashion designer, gorgeous green eyes, beautiful face..."
Chat Noir tuned out, trying to conceal the inner shock that his best friend was in love with him. Marinette has a crush on me? "I see… so, Adrien Agreste. Why him?"
"What do you mean, why him?" She asked, head tilting slightly.
"Of all the boys in Paris, why him? I thought you had a thing for Luka." He was genuinely curious. Marinette was an amazing girl, but what did she really see in him?
"Well… when I first met him I thought he was conceited and arrogant. I thought he was like Chloe." She shook her head, smiling. "I couldn't have been further from the truth though."
"He's kind, and sweet, and generous, and perfect. He has the most wonderful heart and is always there for me. He offered me his umbrella the first day we met and—well, I've just loved him ever since." Chat Noir's heart swelled with emotion. "He's got another layer underneath, though. It sounds silly, but I just feel like there's another side of him, underneath all that perfection and all those photoshoots. It's just that his father is so controlling and he doesn't get the chance to express who he really is."
"And now I've completely embarrassed myself by going on and on about this guy you don't even know, I'm sorry," She buried her head in her hands. It sounded like she really loved him for who he was. Both in and out of the mask, even if she didn't know it. He'd never loved anymore more than in that moment.
"Well, really, Marinette… I know him even better than you do." He raised an eyebrow in amusement.
Marinette lifted her head in surprise. "Oh, no, you're going to tell him, aren't you? My life is over, and I'll never get to have my perfect life: marry Adrien, have three kids with him and a hamster! —"
Chat Noir just chuckled as he said, "Plagg, claws in." to reveal his true identity. Adrien Agreste.
Marinette stood there in shock, frozen on the spot, eyes wider than he thought humanly possible. "Marinette…?" He tried.
"Plagg," He hush-whispered. "Plagg!" He flew out of Adrien's jacket pocket. "I think I've broken Marinette!"
"Kid, you haven't broken her." He rolled his eyes. "Just give her a minute."
They remained there in silence. Adrien swore Marinette hadn't blinked once.
"YOU STUPID CAT!" She exclaimed suddenly, startling both Plagg and Adrien, sending him flying into the lounge chair.
Too stunned to speak, he brushed himself off and stood up again.
"How could you just reveal your identity like that?" She cried.
"W-wh-what?" Adrien tried to speak, but had seemingly lost the ability to.
"Tikki, spots on," She said, shaking her head amusedly.
Now it was Adrien's turn to gape.
"After all this time… not once did I think this is how it would go," Tikki giggled.
"But- you-Marinette-Ladybug-" He stuttered pointing at Marinette and then her red kwami.
"Take it all in, Adrien." Tikki laughed.
He finally sighed in exasperation. "We are such idiots."
They both laughed happily, holding each other hands before pulling into a hug.
"Did you know I had a crush on you too, m'lady?"
"Of course, kitty. Chat Noir always had a thing for Ladybug."
"No, I mean as Marinette as well."
"Did you, now?" She laughed in surprise. "Well, I had a soft spot for my favourite cat as well. If incredible Adrien Agreste wasn't in the picture, things would have been very different."
"We're made for each other, m'lady. Imagine if you hadn't told me who your crush was?" He grinned at her, contentedly.
"I don't regret it one bit, Buttercup."
"What?"
"I'll explain later." Marinette grinned to herself. That was a story for another day.
"Also... what was that about a purr-fect marriage, three kids and a hamster?" Adrien grinned teasingly.
She just groaned, laughing. He was such a dorky, pun-loving, wonderful idiot.
But finally, he was her dorky, pun-loving, wonderful idiot.
