Chapter 6: Friends and Revenge

Maple was honestly feeling a little conflicted with herself. On one hand, that felt sweet and satisfactory, on the other hand, she should've been disgusted, much like she should have been when she killed that mysterious man who aided in her adoptive mother's death. But instead of remorse she felt joy out of it. Maple sighed and pulled out a red flask and drank from it, a red liquid dripping down her left cheek from the corner of her lip as she drank. Once she was done, Maple put the flask away and wiped the blood off before pulling out her scroll and calling the Hunters Association to report that the bounty was completed.

Maple walked around the town a little bit before finding what she was looking for, A black and red car. Maple pulled out her keyes and unlocked it before heading inside and driving home. After Amber's death Maple inherited everything from her. Amber's wealth, home, car, weapon, Amulet, Everything. While having all this stuff was nice, it certainly helped her get started, it merely served as a painful reminder of what she had lost that fateful morning.

Maple arrived home after a few hours of driving. After de-equipping her armor Maple took a quick shower and headed off to bed she'd need her energy for tomorrow. After all, she had a trip to finally go to Vale city. There were a few shops there she wanted to visit, along with a lead that she wanted to investigate.

Ruby Rose was currently standing in a "From Dust 'Till Dawn" store, engrossed in an issue of "Weapons Magazine" when she noticed that a slightly shorter girl move next to her, perusing the magazines and newspapers. The girl had short black hair, and wore a really cool set of black and red armor that had ice dust runes on each piece of it, along with a large matching shield and a silver sword to match. Ruby took a minute to turn off her music before tapping the girl's shoulder.

"Huh? Yes? What do you need?" The girl asked, turning to ruby, where silver eyes met silver eyes.

"Woah" Ruby thought to herself, amazed to meet another person with silver eyes, before regaining her composure.

"I just wanted to say, I really like your setup! Your armor, your shield, your sword, even the runes and amulet, It's all so cool! Where did you get it all? Or did you make it yourself? What does your weapon and shield do? Do they have names?" Ruby asked/complimented, with the other girl struggling to keep up. "OH! Well, I found this armor and shield after defeating a hydra. I can use my shield to consume things that hit it at will, and release balls of energy." The girl explained excitedly, Ruby amazed at the fact that she defeated a hydra, which was a Grimm that only the most skilled teams of hunters could barely beat on their own.

"The ice dust runes, the sword and the amulet are all gifts from my adoptive mother, the ice Dust runes help keep me from overheating due to a curse that was placed on me, the sword is able to transform into a cold flame spewing greatsword, and the amulet is purely a memento." the girl continued, her voice filling with sadness. Ruby took a moment to process that.

"Oh… I'm sorry for your loss, I understand how that feels. My mom died when I was little, it was only a few years when I realized what I meant when they said she wasn't coming back. My cloak is the only thing I have of her." Ruby sympathized with the smaller girl, who decided to turn the conversation back to happier topics.

"What about your weapon?" She asked

Ruby brightened at that and pulled her weapon from behind her. "OH! This is my baby Crescent Rose, she's a Scythe that can transform into a high power sniper-rifle and vice-versa!" Ruby excitedly introduced her weapon.

"That sounds super cool!" Maple gushed before realizing something. "OH! I'm sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Maple Lavel. What's your name?" Maple asked, giving a polite bow.

"Oh yeah! I'm Ruby Rose. It's nice to meet you, Maple! Let's exchange scroll numbers!" Ruby proposed, taking out her scroll, to which maple replied by nodding and taking out her scroll. The two chatted about weapons, their favorite food and adventures for a while when they were interrupted by a man wearing a black suit and hat with red sunglasses and a red tie, wielding a red blade in his hands.

"You two! Hands up!" The thug ordered, putting his machete in front of him to try and intimidate the smaller girls. The two stopped talking, looking at the thug briefly, then to each other, then back to the thug and asked in perfect synch "Are you robbing us?"

"Yes, I am, now hand over your valuables!" The thug ordered. The two merely glanced at each other and pulled their weapons from their places. Soon enough the thug flew across the shop and through the window, earning the attention of Roman Torchwick and the other thugs.

"Okay, then… everyone, take this outside, we don't want to accidentally destroy the dust." Torchwick ordered, as he and all of his goons exited the building. Ruby flew out in a flurry of rose petals, landing on the pavement letting Crescent Rose unfurl as she rose. Maple followed up with Cover Move, changing her weapon's mode from "Blue vengeance" to "Cold flame" the sword turning from a short sword to a flaming greatsword.

"This night just keeps getting more and more interesting," Torchwick thought to himself.

"Get them!" Torchwick ordered his goons.

Many of the Thugs had a gun of some form, though some opted to wield swords and axes.

One of the ax wielding thugs charged towards Maple and swung his ax at her, only for Maple to parry it with her shield and the weapon to be devoured by said shield, disintegrating into magenta cubes. The man looked at his hand confused, before maple wacked him in the head with the flat of her sword, knocking him out instantly.

[[PREDATOR!]]

Maple sent out two wormlike creatures that had black armored heads, red bodies and a fluffy red main, each set their sights on a goon that fired upon them, swiftly knocking them out. Ruby anchored her scythe into the ground, running around the pivot point to build up momentum before firing and sending herself flying towards a gun wielding thug, her boots quickly met the face of her target. Quickly enough all the thugs were defeated, lying at torchwick's feet.

"You were truly worth every cent." Well then, Red, Sapling, I think we can all agree that this has been an eventful evening." Torchwick said, dropping his cigarette onto the ground and crushing it with his cane. Ruby looked over to Maple and immediately noticed how she had tensed up, the look on her face clearly showing that something was going on in her head "But I think this is where we part ways!" Torchwick finished, pointing his cane at Ruby, the end of it flipping up to reveal a sight. Torchwick fired and Maple's world slowed down.

"No! Not again! I can't lose anymore people!" She thought, fear creeping into her heart.

[[Cover Move!]]

Maple, now in front of Ruby, held her shield in front of her, only instead of hearing the sound of the bullet hitting her shield and getting devoured, she saw white smoke curl around her shield. As it turns out, it was just a smoke bullet that blew up mid air and emitted the smoke to cover for his escape.

Ruby put a hand on the shoulder of a visibly shaking Maple.

"You okay?" Ruby asked, concerned.

"Y-yeah, I'll be fine, thank you." Maple assured, calming down. "Where did he go?"

Ruby looked around, seeing roman climbing a ladder onto a rooftop.

"He's that way, Can I use your shield to vault over there and you use your Cover Move thing to follow?" Ruby asked

"That sounds like a good plan to me!" Maple nodded, lifting her shield above her head and lowering herself. Ruby jumped, the barrel of her weapon resting against the shield, she fired and pushed off as Maple rose, using her semblance to increase her speed, before falling to the rooftop. Maple teleported right besides her in a flash of blue light.

"Well, aren't you two persistent." Torchwick remarked as a bullhead rose behind him. He quickly climbed onto it, his mind racing. On one hand, he would really like to try and get rid of these two quickly, on the other hand he had the realization that the smaller one had at least some diversity in her power and was really hard to hurt. Roman decided it was best if Cinder were to handle this and so he ran to the front of the Bullhead.

Back with Ruby and Maple stared at the bullhead, waiting for whatever Roman was going to try and pull, when a Woman stepped from the shadows, she wore a red and gold dress, had long black hair, and had amber eyes.

Maple's eyes widened as she recognised the face, a face she'd never forget as long as she lived. It was the face of one of her adoptive mother's murderers.

"YOU!" Maple shouted, an expression of pure hatred and rage formed on Maple's face, Ruby looked to her friend confused. "Wait, you know this lady?" She asked.

"This is the woman who murdered My adoptive Mother!" Growled Maple, a white fog started to surround her, and a silver flame burst from her right eye, licking the skies, a black flame following it up to a schoolbus's length. Maple started breathing heavily in anger. A look of concern graced Ruby's features as it was starting to become apparent that Maple might have some issues she'd need help to overcome, but she'd have to address that later, right now she needed to focus on helping her friend survive this encounter.

"And what a kill it was, though I was disappointed she didn't put up more of a fight considering her reputation, but sinking my blades into her guts felt good all the same." Cinder taunted, licking her then looked over to Ruby.

"My, my. Sapling, did you find a new friend for me to destroy? A new 'One thing' for me to take away?" Cinder mockingly asked, raising a hand, palm facing towards Ruby, a flame coalescing at the center.

[[Cover Move!]]

Before Cinder could unleash the torrent of fire, Maple teleported in front of Ruby, blocking the attack and letting it be swallowed by the shield. Once the torrent subsided Maple unleashed a ball of magenta energy from the maw of her shield, which hit Cinder right at her center, throwing her to the wall of the bullhead, causing the flying machine to jolt a bit. Cinder got up and walked back to the edge of the Bullhead sneering at the two. "This isn't the end Maple, We'll meet again, and I will make you suffer!" Cinder promised, the bullhead taking off.

Maple however wasn't done. No, Cinder was right here and Maple wasn't going to let this opportunity get away, Maple put her sword away and reached out her hand, a dark light enveloped her hand and a jagged looking cannon formed around it. Maple pointed her gun at the bullhead, tracking its movements while charging the gun, a sinister magenta light filling the barrel.

"Maple wait! Don't do it!" Ruby pleaded, grabbing Maple's arm.

"Why shouldn't I? She's going to hurt you, and countless innocent people! I can't let her continue to sow pain and death wherever she walks!" Maple replied, shaking with rage.

"But if you shoot down that bullhead you'll end up hurting innocent people!" Ruby reasoned, gesturing towards the city. Maple froze, looking at the city below the fleeing bullhead. If she were to fire at it then she'd be responsible for the death and injury of so many people. Maple yelled and pulled her arm upwards, firing into the sky to release the built up energy before dismissing the gun. Maple then fell to her knees and began crying, the flames and fog disappearing as she went. Ruby followed her down, putting an arm around her and kneeling beside her.

"It's okay Maple, I would be angry too if I witnessed my mom's murder. You don't have to soldier through your pain alone anymore, I'm here for you." Ruby comforted, ruffling Maple's hair.

"You aren't alone anymore"

Maple began to cry louder as she hugged Ruby tightly, and began crying into her shoulder. Ruby hugged back, holding Maple just as tightly as she was, gently rubbing her back and the back of her head.

Surprisingly, Maple was able to feel the hand on her back through her armor, Ruby's gentle rubs helping to calm her down from the feelings of grief and loss she had accumulated tonight.

After a little while Ruby thought of something that might help cheer her friend up.

"Hey Maple?" Ruby asked, trying to get her attention.

"Y-yes?" Maple asked, teary eyed.

"When were you going to tell me that you were also a gun?" Ruby asked, giving a playful smile. Maple looked surprised for a moment, before leaning back and laughing.

"I guess I should also mention that I'm also an angel, a demon and a sheep then shouldn't I?" Maple laughed jokingly, giving Ruby a pause.

"Wait, are you serious? And ignoring the two things that sound totally badass, how are you a sheep?" Ruby asked curiously.

"Well I could show you now, but then I'd need help removing all the wool in order to be able to move again." Maple explained with a smile. A smile that Ruby couldn't help but want to protect.

"If you would excuse my intrusion girls, I'd like for you two to come with me, I have something important I need to discuss." A strict and proper sounding voice spoke up.

Looking up, Ruby and Maple saw a blond woman with green eyes and glasses standing over them, she wore a white shirt with a black button up corset and dress, along with black leggings and high heel boots. The two silver eyed girls stood up and looked at the stranger, before a look of realization crossed Ruby's face.

"Wait wait, Are you Glynda Goodwitch? Deputy Headmistress of Beacon Academy?" Ruby asked, excitement evident in her voice and body language.

"Yes, indeed I am." Glynda answered honestly.

"Can I get your autograph?" Ruby squealed, causing the Deputy Headmistress to sigh and pinch the bridge of her nose, and maple to laugh.
