Chapter 9:Welcome to Beacon
"I still can't believe My baby sister and buddy Maple are joining me at Beacon!" Yang said cheerfully as she gave the two a bear hug, after a minute Ruby tapped her older sister on the shoulder, letting her know that she needed to breathe. Causing Yang to let go of them both and held them at arm's length.
"It's just incredible! You both are the youngest students to ever attend Beacon!
As the three talked about how incredible it was that Maple and Ruby a figure watched from the corner of the bullhead, though the bullhead was far too noisy for her to actually hear the conversation. She wore a black bow on a head of long purple, seemingly black hair. She wore a white, sleeveless top with a corset, shorts, purple leggings, black cuffed boots with silver buttons and purple soles, along with a single sleeve held up by a silver arm band, on her waist a pistol sword with a ribbon attached was sheathed in a large bladed sheath.
"What an odd group, It's possible the two red and black themed girls are sisters, the resemblance is uncanny." Blake thought to herself, before she noticed something on the shorter girl's armor, along with how pale she was compared to those around her.
"Wait, are those cooling runes? Aren't those supposed to be used for food preservation and cold storage? Poor girl must have some form of illness if she needs to have those. She's rather pale too. But she has to at least be able to hold her own to be here right?" Blake thought to herself, she couldn't help but be worried about the health of the mysterious girl. Behind her a Holographic TV started to play the news, Blake turned around to listen.
"The resettlement efforts in the town of Whitethorn, which until May 24th was the nest of an ancient Nevermore, are going rather smoothly, and the grimm population in the area has practically vanished since the nevermore's reign of the area was put to an end by a young huntress in training named Maple Lavel. While we don't have any pictures of this brave hero, the town has named the restored shelter after her." Blake stopped listening to process that. A huntress in training defeated an ancient nevermore, a feat that should have been difficult for two ruby ranked teams of hunters/huntresses, was done by a single huntress in training.
"Whoever this 'Maple Lavel' is, she'd definitely be here at beacon, there's no way she wouldn't with strength like that." Blake thought to herself, though as she found herself lost in thought had made their way over.
"Oh Maple! We nearly missed it, did you know that they were naming that shelter after you?" the taller red themed girl asked the shorter one.
"No, I didn't know about that, but I'm happy people can live there now." Maple replied.
"Wait, You're Maple Lavel?" Blake asked surprised, causing the three to turn to her.
"Yes I am, but you can just call me Maple." Maple introduced, extending a hand towards Blake.
"You can call me Ruby!" Ruby introduced herself.
"And I'm Yang!" Yang introduced.
"It's nice to meet you!" The three said together, Blake smiled at the trio.
"I'm Blake, It's nice to meet you too!" Blacke introduced herself, taking Maple's hand. Just as the quartette was getting into the moment an advertisement started playing on the holographic TV besides them started to play an advertisement.
"From the humble Island of Grimm Rock, MoonDust Inc. We have a new product for all your hiking needs. Introducing: the Dust crystal cooling unit, made with Ice dust sourced from Grimm Rock's mines-" Tha ad advertised, showing a canister with an x-ray view of an ice dust crystal and some electronics.
"Grimm Rock? That's where you come from, right Maple?" Yang asked with curiosity.
"Wait, isn't that also the name of an Island nation that has the world's only monarchy?" Blake asked, recognising the name.
"Yes to both, It's also known as the 'Eternal Winter' island due to the ice dust keeping the island freezing cold year round." Maple confirmed, and informed the group.
"It's also the home of the most ethical Dust company in the world from what I heard. The rest are pretty much like the Schnee Dust Company and treat their workers like slaves, especially the poor faunus that work for them!" Ruby said, angry at the injustice of it, bringing a hopeful feeling to Blake hearing that even humans were getting angry at the plight her people are put through.
While everyone was getting off the bullhead and heading to the auditorium Maple felt a tap on her shoulder.
"Hey!" A stern voice said behind her. Maple turned to look at whoever was trying to get attention to see a girl with snow white hair tied in a ponytail, colored skin, icy blue eyes and a scar on her left eye, though whatever caused it left the eye intact. She wore a white long sleeved top with red inside, a white dress and white boots with red on the inner part as well. The girl was giving Maple a stern glare.
"What are you doing with those cooling runes on your armor? That's incredibly dangerous! They're meant to be used for food." The girl asked sternly, causing Maple to to blink, lost for words, meanwhile Ruby and Yang who had just made it to them just laughed, Blake who followed behind the group chuckled.
"Are you being serious, or are you just trying to flirt with me really aggressively by calling me a snack?" Maple asked, genuinely confused, causing the taller girl to sputter, flabbergasted by the question.
"Wa- what? NO! I'm being serious, you dolt! Those runes could freeze you to death!" The girl shouted incredulously.
"Oh, well while I appreciate your concern, it's really not necessary. They're actually the only thing that's keeping me from overheating and dying, so really these are more medicinal than harmful." Maple explained, her runes were glowing brightly in the late summer heat. Weiss was stunned silent as the multi-colored quartette walked towards the school building.
"What kind of condition would turn something that's supposed to be used as a food preservative into a medical necessity?" Weiss thought to herself as she followed the crowd to the auditorium.
