After the boys went to sleep I went out to the Rv and started to put the new supplies, boy's toys and books away. I made sure to lock the door behind me so no one like Shane or Lori could come in and try to demand supplies or just try and take them. I was putting the last of the boys things away when I got a knock on the Rv door. I grabbed my weapon and ready it incase it was a walker and not someone from the group.
It was Carol she had a crying Ethan in her arms who wouldn't let her shirt go at all. I let her in the Rv while I turned off everything and turned off all the lights. I get out of the Rv first checking walkers before helping Carol out and locking it up tight. We headed towards the house and I saw two walkers coming out of the house next door to mine. I grabbed Carol by her free arm and lightly tapped on Dale's Rv. As soon as the door opened I had to push Andrea out of way before Carol could get in.
I pushed Carol inside motion towards Glenn who got the message after he heard the groaning from them coming towards the laughing noise in the house. I took out my hunting knife and went to the front of the Rv and waited until the first one rounded around the conner. I waited until the second one followed before killing it first. Glenn lured the first one far enough away so that I could kill the second one. I then went up behind first one killed it but taking a knife through it's brain.
Daryl chose that time to round Rick's car with T-dog and his crossbow raised and ready to fire if needed. I gave him a nodded towards the two dead walkers. I took Daryl's back while we checked the house next door yard for more walkers but didn't find any. We shut the door for the night and would clear the house the next day when we had the light. I let the men finish doing a sweep of the area while I went to take care of Ethan. Carol was safely in the house with Ethan I took him from her and started feeding him.
I was feeding him in the dark while the older boys slept in the bed beside me they were clearly crowed and Matt woke up and was trying to get more comfortable. I called him and motion towards the other bed for him to come sleep in next to me. I got up to help him up and over Sam who had taken the outside of the bed. I helped him get laid down in his bed and covered him up. Ethan was done eating now so I burped him and changed his diaper before putting him back in his crib.
I went to the living room to find Carol and Sophia were back asleep on the pull out bed while Shane slept in the recliner and Daryl kept watch with his bow. The sun was starting to rise so we had about 30 minuets before it was up high enough in the sky to start waking people up. I got to work cooking some pancakes for everyone and canned fruit was for breakfast this morning. I was cooking them on a pancake skillet which cooked 6 at a time. I would have to let them take this with them it would help with feeding the group.
I was on my third batch of pancakes when Carol came to cook to find me doing the work. i also had canned apples and pears warming up in two different pots on the stove so people had a choice on which fruit they wanted. Ethan about that time started crying for his morning bottle since last time he was fed he only got half his bottle since he fell asleep halfway through his bottle earlier. Carol took over finishing up the food while I went and got Ethan up. Ethan woke up the older boys to. I gave them both their daily clothes for them to get dressed.
The usually wore the same clothes at least 2 days in a row before they got washed now that the dead were walking sometimes longer depending on how the day is looking. I got Ethan up and in his sling for the day and went to get Rick up to talk to him about where we would go from here. I knocked on my bedroom door and waited for Rick to answered only for Lori to answer instead. She didn't look happy that I was knocking on her door at this of the morning. I smiled at her but only got a scowl in return. She was about to start talking when Rick came up from behind her and greeted me instead.
"Morning Lori, Rick breakfast is being cooked now if your hungry. Rick I need to talk to about last night we had to kill a couple walkers." I told him getting his attention.
"Sure Lori why don't you get Carl up and go help with breakfast." Rick told her getting a frown from her but he ignored it.
"So we killed two walkers last night from next door. Me, Daryl, and T-Dog cleared the yard and found that the front door was open so we closed it and waited until this morning to clear the house so we could see. Glenn stood watch on Dale's Rv while Daryl did in the house." I told him rocking Ethan to keep him quiet on my chest.
"Okay I will take Daryl and Shane and clear the house after breakfast while everyone is getting ready to leave." Rick told me walking down the hallway towards the living room.
In the living room Matt was helping Sam carry out one last box of blankets and baby supplies for Ethan. I smiled at that, Sam had been trying to be a good older brother and get stuff for his younger one while Matt had to help him carry the heavy box since he couldn't do it by himself. I nod at them as Ethan let out a squeal when he saw his brothers that made me laugh. Sam came running over to say good morning to Ethan who was happy for the attention. I handed Ethan to Sam who was happy to sit and hold him while Matt kept an eye on them and I went to help finish getting breakfast ready to for everyone.
I was putting food on plates giving the guys 3-4 pancakes, women got 2-3, and kids got 1-2 of them with their chosen fruit. I was handing out plates with food on them but when I handed Glenn his plate then Andrea hers she snorted at me before rolling her eyes at me. I looked at Glenn and then made the decision to ignored her and continue to hand out the plates of food everyone. Matt and Sam were eating while I feed Ethan his jar of pears to him. When he was done with his jar I burped him and wiped his mouth off with a burp cloth.
"Okay boys after breakfast we getting ready to leave so anything that don't want to leave behind goes in that box nothing more." I told them pointing to the mostly full box of different things I had found that I was take with me.
"But mommy we just got home." Sam said not happy about leaving.
"I know buddy but it's not safe here and we need to find somewhere safe so you can teach Ethan to crawl and walk when he get older." I told him kneeling down to his level trying to make him understand.
"But mommy how will Daddy find us." Sam asked making my heart break all over again and I could feel the others watching me.
"Sam we talked about this Daddy went to heaven so we won't see him for a very long time." I told him smiling softly at him.
"Okay mommy but can we take bear with us." He asked me.
"Sure bud go get him he is in the living room on the shelf." I told him getting up off the floor.
Sam came running back with a stuffed bear with a military uniform on it that we had gifted my husband one time he came home. Sam had picked out for his dad and Michael ended up taking it with him the next time he went on tour. It was returned to me with his personal belongings after he died. i added bear to the box of stuff to take. I was putting the boys shoes and jackets on them as everyone was grabbing the last of their overnight supplies that they had brought inside. I walked over to where Dale and Glenn were talking about Rv's.
"Hey Dale do you mind if I take you back up driver so he can drive for me today. He can get a feel for a bigger Rv." I told him.
"Sure it will be good for you son." Dale told Glenn hitting him on the shoulder.
"Glenn I need you to go get the box of junk from inside an bring it over to my Rv. While I round up the boys so we can leave." I told him pointing to the box by the front door.
"Sure let me grab my bat and i will be ready after helping Rick." He told me going to get his baseball bat from Dale's Rv.
I went and found Matt and Sam playing cards with the other kids inside Dale's Rv. I let them play with the other kids while the other guys finish clearing the surrounding houses. I stood watch at the Rv door while Dale was up on the roof of his Rv doing the same. Rick and Shane were clearing one house, T-Dog and Daryl were doing the other while Glenn and Andrea got gas out of the cars in the driveways around ours or at least the few that still had cars in them that was. I saw the men coming out of the houses with bags half full each which meant they found something. I knew Daryl would share his findings with me since I had always done the same with him.
I called the boys over and told them it was time to get in our Rv so we could leave to find somewhere safe to stay. I walked with the boys over to our Rv when I saw a heard of like 10 walkers coming down the street. I raised the alarm and really kicked everyone into gear. I opened the Rv door helping Sam in first before doing the same with Matt. Glenn came hurrying over with the box in his arms he put it on the Rv floor and slid it to me before he jumped in himself shutting the door and locking it.
I got the boys in the back of the Rv away from the door incase the walkers got in the Rv. I put a sleeping Ethan in his moses basket on the bed and shut both doors give us a couple extra barrier between us and them. Glenn was hiding with us in the bedroom while the rest of the group hid in Dale's Rv or the house until they past. I left Ethan with Matt and went to the sun roof of the Rv with my bow and arrow. I saw they were just now approaching the house next door which was close enough for me start shooting. I killed the first couple ones before i saw Daryl on top of Dale's Rv with the same idea.
I let a couple pass me so that he could get them as they rounded the conner but it was then Ethan started to cry for his mid morning bottle which caused all the walkers to turn towards my Rv and come towards it. Daryl in turn started to shoot the walkers faster as did i. I had to trust that Matt would know what to do to get Ethan quiet while I helped get rid of the walkers. It took about 2 minuets before Ethan quiet crying which meant that they had figured out what was causing it or found a way to sooth him.
I killed the last of the walkers before taking a look around all the sides of the Rv to make sure one wasn't hiding from us somewhere waiting on it's next meal. I did see any so I gave Daryl the all clear sign which was thumbs up and nodded with my head. I climbed back down on the booth table before stepping down on the booth seating then the floor. I went to knock on the door to get the boys when I heard Daryl also call the all clear.
"Glenn open the door it all good." I told him knocking on the bedroom door.
Glenn opened the door and went to check on everybody else. Matt was holding a not very happy baby with a pacifier in his mouth. I laughed at him as I grabbed Ethan from him. I went to the fridge to get one of his emergence bottles that got used every couple days. I was feeding Ethan when someone knocked on the Rv door, I looked over to see that Sam was coloring at the table while Matt worked in one of his adventure workbooks. I snapped my fingers getting their attention and motion for them to be quiet because I was sure if it was a person or walker at my door.
I went to open the Rv door find two walkers had wondered up. I tried to slam it back shut but it was to late. I was struggling to hold it closed so they did come in with one hand with Ethan in the other. I yelled out for help causing Matt to run my way with his gun loaded and Sam was closes to me so he grabbed Ethan dropping his bottle but that didn't really matter right this second.
"Sam back room now." I shouted at him and he ran towards it closing the door behind him with Ethan still in his arms. I heard him get in to the closet because it was the only door that squeaked in the Rv.
"Rick on three I'm going to dive to the left shoot and try not to hit my Rv." I told him as I started counting when I saw Rick and Daryl some running and they aimed up to shoot but couldn't with out risking shooting me or Matt.
I started counted on three I drove left taking Matt down with me and we started to crawl out of the way. Daryl killed the first walker and Rick the seconded one not missing them at all. My first instinct was to go check on Sam and Ethan. I didn't know if Ethan got bit or scratched I was to busy trying not to drop him while balancing him and the weight of the walkers pulling against the door. After both of them were dead and check to make sure they were dead.
I went to the bedroom to check on the younger boys. Sam was hiding behind a couple of the tubs that he had moved to put an extra barrier between him and the danger. I was so proud of him he had Ethan tucked in his arms in the conner of the closet. He was rocking Ethan to keep him quiet. He jumped when I opened the door to closet. I smiled at him and held out my hand for him to grab. I helped him up before taking Ethan back from him. I had picked Ethan half full bottle off the ground and fed him the rest of it.
"Rick" I called getting his attention.
"I know we were planning on staying here another night but after those walkers I don't think it's safe to." i told him burping Ethan who happily let out a good 'bleck'.
"yeah we are loading up now to leave Glenn should be over to drive like planned." He told me just as Glenn came over with his bat.
"Rick lead the way and have Dale know that we will follow him incase he breaks down." i told him not really wanting to follow him but it was the best bet.
Rick nodded at me as I got back in the Rv with Glenn following behind me. I handed him the keys as I went to lay Ethan down for his nap. i then went to the kitchen area and grabbed three power bars and handed Matt and Sam one before taking one myself to eat to last us until we ate dinner tonight. I sat down with Sam and worked on his flashcards with him while Matt did his own schoolwork I had given him. We drover for about an hour before I let the boys go and have free time. I put NCIS on for Sam to watch while Matt read his book. I made sure that they were buckled up before going to check on a sleeping Ethan who was in his carseat sound asleep.
After driving for another two hours we pulled over on the side of the road to sleep for the night. I started on supper for my boys which was mac and cheese with peas. I also had some apple sauce for Ethan to eat along with his bottle. I was giving the boys their bowl of mach and cheese with peas mixed in when some one knocked on my door. I opened it to find Lori and Rick standing there not looking very happy about something. I didn't want them in my Rv so I step outside leaving Ethan in Matt's care while I talked to them about what ever they wanted to talk about.
"What can I do for you this evening." I asked him shutting the door behind me.
"We wil have to sleep here look's like and Dale's Rv is crowed with so many people in it. We were hoping you would let a couple people sleep in yours." Rick asked me while rubbing his hands together nervously.
"Rick I don't have room. I have four beds in the Rv and four people. I don't have anything but chairs up front and their not made to be slept in. Plus I don't trust anyone not to go snooping through my stuff or trying to take my supplies." I told him not wanting anyone but me and the kids to sleep in my Rv.
"The whole time I was at the quarry I had to worry about Shane or Lori trying to take my supplies at every twist and turn. Hell I couldn't even leave to go get water with having someone watching my Rv or they would start to get nosy and try to open the door and go inside." I told him after a long pause.
"Please Ellen even if you lock down half the Rv we just need some extra space for a couple people to sleep." Rick told me pleading almost.
"Fine I will take Sophia, Carol, and Glenn and that is it no more." I told him knowing that I could have the boys share a bed, so could Carol and Sophia, Glenn would have to sleep on the floor.
"Thank you." Rick told me before going to tell the rest of the group.
"O and Rick let Glenn know he will be sleeping on the floor." I called after him heading back inside the Rv.
"He was in Dale's Rv anyways so it won't matter." Rick told me as he opened the door to Dale's Rv to go inside and I did the same for mine.
Once inside the Rv I started to check the locks on the storage areas and closet. I also check the gun safe after putting Ethan down in his bouncer for a bit. Sam was playing with his toys and watching Tv with Matt. I made them go put up their toys and books since we were having company soon. I laid out some food for us and our guest to eat for supper. I got 2 cans of peas, corn, and some pasta out of the cabinet and starting water for the pasta on the stove. I was finishing cleaning up the living area when I got a knock on the Rv door. Carol was standing there with Sophia and their sleeping bags with pillows that I had let them keep from the house.
"Come on in you guys will be sharing a bed the kitchen table lays down in to a bed that's where you two will sleep." I told them as they climbed in the Rv
I went back over to where Ethan was playing and picked him up. I took Ethan to the back bedroom and changed his diaper before setting him on my hip while I finished up supper. I started to open the cans with one hand since they were the ones that had the tab that pull to open them. I dumped all the peas and corn into one big pan before I started to add salt and pepper. I open the fridge and used up a little bit of butter not much but a little bit. i also grabbed Ethan bottle so I could feed him. I sat down with him in one of the free chairs and started to feed him.
I burped him half way through his bottle before giving him the rest. Then he got some baby food that sweat potatoes and something else mixed together I was half way through feeding him when Sam came and asked me when he was going to eat. I told Carol where the bowls were so she could start getting food put in bowls for us to eat. She made bowls for everybody following my ration rules with me and the boy's bowls. I was burping Ethan for the last time as she put the food on the table for everyone else to eat. I went to the bedroom area and got Sam who was playing in the floor and Matt who was reading on his bed.
"Come on guys time to eat." I told them as I laid Ethan down in his moses basket with his pacifier in his mouth.
I shut the door behind me to make sure he was safe. I then sat down next to Matt and Sam we had to squeeze to fit but we did. I we ate in silence since there wasn't really anything to talk about. I made Matt help clean up after dinner so that I could study with Sam on survival things since we were on the road now it was more of a chance he could get separated from now that we were moving and looking for supplies so I wanted him be able to survive until we came back for him. I could feel Sophia watching us and listening to my lesson to Sam on what do if you got lost and what not to do. I was having him pick out edible plants, roots, flowers, and herbs that you could eat that grew in the wild.
"Can I see too." Sophia asked surprising both me and her mom.
"If your mom doesn't care sure." I told her scooting over so she could sit beside me and across from Sam.
"Go ahead Sophia it won't hurt." Carol said drying the dishes from supper off.
"Okay so Sophia on one side is a picture of the plant on the other is the plants name, most commonly called, where it can be found and what you can use it for. I know that sounds like a lot but it really isn't if you look at them." I told her showing her the different cards.
"Cool did you make them yourself." Sophia ask looking through the stack that Sam had already been through.
"Yeah the boys have been learning this kind of thing when they to walk and talk." I told her.
"Okay Sam finished up your stack and your free to go." I told him as I got up to get a crying Ethan from the bedroom.
I saw that all he needed was a clean diaper. I changed him before putting him back down with his pacifier and he went right to sleep with in 5 minuets. I got Sam and Matt some night clothes out for them. I took them to the boys and had them go get changed for the night while Sophia did the same in the bathroom since she was a girl. I went into the storage area and got a couple bags of popcorn out of storage before locking it back up and going to the main room.I started the first bag in the microwave while Sophia picked out something for all of us to watch since she was the guest. We ended up watching The Croods. Afterwards we all went to bed. Carol and Sophia slept on the floor int living area while Glenn kept watch for the beginning of the night. I took over for him halfway through the night.
