The Rise of Team's RAIN & RWBY
Volume 1, Episode 3: The Emerald Forest
"You need to work on being more punctual Mr. Rose!" Ms. Goodwich scolded, and Robin protected his face as it continued. "You are here to set an example for the incoming students, I'd advise you begin setting it!"
Robin-terrified still- bowed as he apologized. "We're sorry Ms. Goodwich! We're sorry, we won't let it ever happen again!"
"We?!" Niko said dis-believingly behind him.
Robin elbowed him in the gut. "Yes, we Niko. We as a team will never be late again Ms. Goodwich, I solemnly swear!"
Ms. Goodwich only glared again before sighing in exasperation. "I swear you grow more like your Uncle every day…"
"Really?!" Robin said excitedly.
"It wasn't a compliment," Ms. Goodwich said, which deflated Robin's mood. The blonde huntress sighed and walked out onto the stage. "Just be prepared to come onstage Mr. Rose."
"Yes ma'am…" Robin said, letting out a breath after she left.
Niko laughed at him. "I remember you used to have a crush on Ms. Goodwich."
"Still do," Robin said, smiling as he looked out over the crowd. "But right now… we have more important things to worry about. Now where are they…"
"Did Ruby really cause an explosion five minutes after getting off the ship?" Niko asked, poking his head around the curtain with Robin.
Robin shrugged as he closed his eyes and activate his semblance. "More like ten really. It wasn't really that bad."
"Ten minutes? Well, she broke your record then," Niko said, a cocky smirk as he did. "Hers wasn't nearly as big as yours either."
Robin shivered. "Don't remind me."
It was the truth; Robin knew Ruby was only nervous just like he'd been when he stepped off the airship last year. He also knew however, the difference between him and Ruby, was that she was moving up two years, so it was only natural for her to be as nervous as she was. He knew however, the moment she was able to pull out Crescent Rose in the initiation tomorrow, she'd feel a whole lot better. Yang had probably joked about it, but he knew she'd end up on Ruby's team somehow. After teams were established, was when you really settled into Beacon, he'd learned that lesson last year. He couldn't have asked for better teammates, and after all they'd gone through in their first year, all the hard work seemed to be paying off.
Yes, he couldn't have asked for a better team, Niko who was laughing at the memory of him exploding. Azure, who was still playing a game on his scroll, tongue bit in concentration, and Indigo, who was munching down on the cookies Ozpin had set out for the staff backstage.
"Look, Ms. Goodwich is starting," Niko whispered, as the two of them still poked their heads around the curtain at the gathered first-years. "Ha, there's more then last year with us. I wonder…. What? No way! You gotta be kidding me!"
"What? Did something happen to Ruby and Yang?" Robin said, scanning the crowd with his semblance on for his sisters.
Niko, for the first time since Robin had known him, looked speechless. "N…no. Look to the right, towards the door, black hair, leaning up against the wall near the entrance."
Robin shifted his vision to where Niko had told him and chuckled when he saw the girl. "Ha, I just saw her outside. It looked like she was going to help Ruby out but stopped when she saw me. You know her?"
Niko's disbelief turned into a huge smile. "Ha… you could say that yeah."
Robin didn't ask any further questions, he knew Niko would tell him later, and he also finally spotted Ruby and Yang in the crowd. The two stood out, especially Yang with her long blonde hair. He smiled first for a minute, as he could see the seen clearly with his eyes active. He couldn't hear, but he saw Ruby probably lamenting to Yang how she exploded.
It only got worse when Weiss found her, probably started scolding her again and Ruby had to jump into Yang's arms she was so scared. Robin sighed, and turned off his eyes, stepping back to his team with Niko. If it was any other situation, he'd probably have exploded on someone yelling at his sister like Weiss had. However, Dad had told him before he left early for Beacon a few days ahead of both his sisters, that Robin had to work on letting his sister experience things themselves, to let them make their own mistakes and fix their own. He said to be there for them if they need it, if they were in danger and he could help, to do so. However, Robin knew he needed to at least try and let them have their own experience, and not meddle too much, despite how hard that would be. He wanted to watch them and spend as much time with them as he could… but he had to let them grow on their own.
He had known Ruby wouldn't want to alienate a girl in her class, despite how Weiss had been acting, so he tried to mitigate the situation and resolve it how Ruby would want. Also, from when he had talked to Weiss himself, at least at the time she hadn't seemed very bad. He knew it was probably because of him being the leader of team RAIN, but if she was friends with Indigo, he'd give her the benefit of the doubt, besides, he liked to get to know people from more then one conversation before passing judgement.
So, he bit his lip and resisted the urge to rush to where he saw Weiss scolding Ruby again. She'd handle it herself, he had to learn to believe her. He of all people knew how great she was.
"Okay…" He said, turning to Niko and then to the rest of his team. "Alright team RAIN heads up! In a minute Ms. Goodwich will-. Indigo! Leave some for everyone else!"
Indigo looked up from the snack table with at least three cookies in his mouth.
"Sorry," He mumbled with his mouth full, before Azure laughed at him, and the two joined him and Niko.
Finally, his team had gathered. Ms. Goodwich was already speaking, there time would be soon. Niko stood next to him, his ears pointed up like his tail, Azure had finally put away his scroll game, his hands stuffed into his dark blue trench coat, and while he was still chewing cookies, Indigo stood paying attention to him.
Yes, his team was full of misfits, including himself, but when it came time to accomplish a goal, or keep a promise, they turned into the best team at Beacon.
"I'll talk, and you all just stand next to me," Robin said, laughing nervously. "Ha…unless of course any of you changed your mind and wanted to speak instead?"
Niko scoffed. "No way Robin, you're our leader! We wouldn't be in this position if not for you, you should be the one to speak."
"He's right," Azure said, a small smile coming to his face as he went to retie the dark blue bun of hair on top of his head. "We were nothing until you got us on the right track."
Robin sighed and shook his head. "You guys sell yourselves to short. I wouldn't have gotten anywhere without you three. We've achieved our success as a team, we're all strong, we did it together."
"Yeah maybe…" Niko said, with that natural smile on his face. "We are all strong yeah, but you're the one who helped us bring it out. If we're going to continue to get even better from last year, it's going to be thanks to your leadership."
"You shouldn't sell yourself short Robin," Azure noted. "Niko's right, we'll get even better this year. And we can even help train Ruby, Yang, and their team. The more strong teams, the safer Remnant will be."
"HA, got that right Az!" Niko said excitedly, his tail wagging. "I can't wait to see Ruby and Yang's team! I can picture it now, Team RAIN, led by the fearless Robin Rose, and then a second, just as badass, powerful team led by one of his younger sisters, the grimm will quake in fear!"
"Ha… you're being a little dramatic, but you're right," Robin said, getting flustered as he rubbed the back of his messy black hair. "Let's go and inspire the masses! After that, I got some news for you guys later tonight."
They all nodded with a smile themselves, and Robin felt a new surge of energy. Indigo however, raised his hand before he could go on.
"Boss, question," He said, reaching into his hoodie pocket and pulling out a bag of chips.
Robin sighed before he could even ask. "No Indigo, you can't eat the chips on stage, where did you even… you know, never mind, I don't wanna know. By the way Ind, did Az tell you? We met an old friend or… well acquaintance of yours today."
"Friend?" Indigo asked, stuffing the last cookie in his mouth.
"Yeah, some white-haired girl, Robin was flirting with her," Az noted much to Robin's annoyance.
Robin rolled his eyes. "I was not flirting with her!" He turned to Indigo shaking his head. "She said she knew your dad; you knew each other when you were younger. Weiss Schnee?"
"Weiss Schnee?!" Niko said, scoffing and shaking his head, looking to Indigo. "You're telling me you know the heiress to the Schnee Dust Company? How come you never said anything?"
Indigo shrugged. "You didn't ask."
All three other member of team RAIN sighed with drooping shoulders. Indigo was an enigma to all of them, he was loyal to the core, and had risked his life without saying a word for all of them on more then one occasion. Azure had been the one to find him during initiation, while Robin and Niko had found each other, and while Azure, Niko and Robin had argued and almost killed each other at first, their fighting styles clashing, Indigo had said close to nothing. He'd been put on their team, and that was all it took. Since then, Indigo had never questioned one of Robin's decisions, and saved them all on more then one occasion.
And they still had no idea anything about his past. They were able to drag out of him that he was from Atlas, but Weiss's revelation was the first they'd heard of anything other than that. In the end it was like Indigo said, they simply hadn't asked, because they didn't think they'd have gotten an answer. Either way, Robin personally didn't care much about it, Indigo was his teammate, practically his family, it would have been that way even if he hadn't spent the summer with them.
Niko and Azure seemed to realize the same thing, they weren't going to get much more out of Indigo about Weiss or Atlas back home now, so they dropped it. Robin knew they thought the same, it didn't really matter, Indigo was our teammate. Even Niko who was a faunus with dozens of reasons to hate the Schnee's, he wouldn't care, Robin knew it. They were a team.
"I will, keep this brief," The deep voice of Professor Ozpin said, making Robin and the rest of the team look out onto the stage. Beacon's headmaster looked out over the crowd. "You have all traveled here today in search of knowledge. To hone your craft and acquire new skills. And when you are finished? You plan to dedicate your life, to the protection of the people… but I look amongst you, and all I see… is wasted energy, in need of purpose, direction."
Niko cringed next to Robin. "Yikes… as inspiring as ever Oz."
"You can say that again," Azure said.
Robin scoffed, Uncle Qrow and his dad both had mentioned Ozpin got like this at times. However, it wouldn't stop Robin from trusting him like his uncle did.
The Professor pushed up his glasses and went on. "You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will prove knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you… to take the first step."
"Well, it was pretty much the same speech last year," Niko said. "I wonder if he just uses the same one with every new class."
Robin shrugged. "Well, either way, it looks like we're up."
"Now, before Ms. Goodwich explains the next 24 hours to you, a treat for you all," Ozpin said, looking over at Robin and his team behind the curtain. "Many of you, particularly those from Vale will have heard of them. Their skill is well documented… but one year ago, they were all in the exact same position as you all. I give you, new students, the members of Team RAIN, Indigo Ignatian, Azure Acheron, Niko Moon, and their leader, Robin Rose."
The Professor gave no fanfare as he walked off the stage, but he put a hand on Robin's shoulder as he passed. "Good luck Mr. Rose."
Robin sucked in a breath and looked at his team, nodded, and led them out onto the stage. The lights were particularly bright, and the excited words, clapping and cheers from the crowd all made Robin's stomach churn. He was never particularly good in front of crowds, it was different from leading his team. Some people like Niko, had no problem, clapping, whooping and throwing up peace signs.
Indigo and Azure were much more reserved, taking place next to Robin as Ms. Goodwich stepped aside from the microphone. Robin took place next to it, subconsciously wishing he'd ironed out his dark red coat, and his cape earlier. He ran a had through his hair to somewhat fix it, and his multi-colored eyes scanned the cheering crowd as Azure and Indigo filed out on one side, while Niko-who was being told to calm down by Ms. Goodwich- was on the other.
Find Ruby and Yang, find Ruby and Yang… oh thank god, there they are, he said, his eyes falling on the two. Yang as normal was full of energy, clapping, whistling and waving up at him. Ruby finally seemed to at least partially break out of her stupor and waved up both her hands at him. He even saw Weiss looking up at him, although seemingly conflicted still. Robin internally sighed, he had enjoyed talking to Weiss, but in the end unless she made up with Ruby, he wouldn't help her out more, like she clearly wanted.
Seeing them calmed him down, he let out a breath, and instead of focusing on the multitude of eyes on him now that had quieted down… he looked at the two of them. Ms. Goodwich gave him a nod, and Robin breathed in carefully and tapped the microphone.
"So… um, hi! Everyone, I want to thank Professor Ozpin first for letting me talk to you all," He said, looking over at the Professor who nodded, before turning back to the crowd. "As he said, my names Robin Rose, I'm the leader of Team RAIN, and these are my wonderful misfit teammates."
He gestured to his teammates, who all waved, and laughed along with a good amount of the people in the crowd. His nerves calmed a bit and he found Ruby and Yang again, who smiled.
"So, I want to come out and say first that… yeah, we did what we did to save Vale last year. I won't lie and say I don't like being recognized for how well my teams performed," He started, letting the words come naturally. "We're good yeah… but in the end, we're just kids really, like every single one of you. We were in the same exact position as all of you right now, so, don't think for one second any of you don't have the same potential as us. As a matter of fact, if you managed not to explode a bunch of dust on your way to the auditorium, you're already starting off better than I did!"
He made sure to smile at Ruby to let her know he was just teasing her as the room burst out into laughter. Next to Yang, thankfully she smiled, as Yang laughed and punched her shoulder. Next to him he even saw Indigo crack a smile.
"I was just like every one of you last year," He said, as the laughter died down, a smile coming to his face as he looked at Ruby and Yang again. "I was just as nervous, anxious, apprehensive, and excited as every one of you… but you know what I kept thinking? I kept thinking… this is what I want to do with my life. To protect people and make the world a better place like the heroes from the stories my mom read me when I was younger."
He saw Ruby start to smile and it made him feel better. "So, if I can give you any advice now… it's if you ever start to have doubts, to have those nerves creep up… remember why you're here, the dream that drove you to come to Beacon. And… that me, my team, your classmates… they'll be there to pick you up when you fall. If Beacon is going to give you anything, it'll give you people you'll love for the rest of your life. I won't lie and say there won't be hard days… but hard days are always followed by good ones, and the good ones are worth it… thank you all, and good luck."
Robin stepped away from the microphone to a large chorus of clapping, and let out a breath that nearly made him cough. He chuckled nervously as he felt a slap on the back.
"Inspiring really, made me want to run through a wall," Azure whispered to him, Indigo nodding next to him.
Niko chuckled next to him, whispering. "Nearly brought a tear to my eye you did our fearless leader."
"Good speech boss," Indigo said, scratching his nose.
Robin smiled as Ms. Goodwich went on talking about sleeping arrangements for that night, among other things. He spotted Yang first in the crowd, flashing her big smile and the thumbs up, while Ruby just smiled, looking much calmer.
"Team RAIN operation: Sister arrival, is a success," Robin whispered to his team, a smile growing on his own face. "I think we're in for a great year."

Niko Moon was never known for his patience, but after he saw her in the crowd, he realized just how obvious it was. Robin had taken Azure and Indigo back to their room, mentioning something about making cookies and milk to bring to Yang and Ruby in the auditorium that night. Niko remembered he and Robin's first night in the auditorium, scheming how they'd make sure to land near each other to become partners. That had been the first time they met Azure and saw Indigo popping out of shadows.
And now, a year later, they were the best team at Beacon, each of them easily the best fighters at the school. Niko never imagined back on Menagerie when he was a kid he'd grow this far, he'd been an outcast in regular human society, and among the Faunus because he didn't share their hatred of humans. Robin and team RAIN had been the first place he really felt he belonged, and thanks to his best-friend and fearless leader, he felt he could take on the world.
So, he wasn't nervous at all when he finally saw Blake again for the first time in years. Why would he? They had grown up together after all.
He smiled, when he saw her lingering near the back of the group of first years being ushered out into the school hallways. She looked just like he remembered, long black hair, the sword/gun/grappling hook he always thought was epic on her back.
But… what's up with that bow? He thought as he got closer. Maybe it was his different thought process, or just because he couldn't really hide the fact, he was a faunus what with his tail and all, but he never once thought of trying to hide it. Others thought different, and with good reason he knew… but Blake? Ghira's daughter? He thought she'd be the last one to hide it.
Of course… Niko hadn't seen her in years, not since she'd gone off with his old buddy Adam. He knew she saw him up on stage, he saw her shock, he was hoping it was good shock.
"HA! Baby Belladonna?!" He said as he finally got to her, just before she could leave to follow the group. "I couldn't believe it when I saw you!"
He went to give her a hug, like he always did when they were younger, but he made the mistake of sneaking up on Blake-a cat faunus- from behind. So, she jumped with inhuman looking speed, spun, grabbed his arm and twisted it behind his back.
"GAH! Come on Baby Belladonna… ha… is this anyway to say hi to your old best-friend?" He asked, as he heard her sigh.
"Niko, please stop calling me that," She said, letting him go and looking up at him when he turned back to her. "You know, you're only a year old then me, right?"
Niko laughed and smiled back at her. "Ha, maybe yeah, but you'll always be Baby Belladonna to me, Ghira's little girl, who I will guard one day!"
Blake rolled her eyes and it made Niko smile; some things never change.
He kept up his goofy smile, because after a moment, Blake turned back to him with one of her own. Without warning she threw herself at him in a hug, which Niko happily returned.
"You're as insufferable as always…" She said as she hugged him, a small smile coming to her face. "But… it is good to see you Niko, really good."
"Yeah… you too Blake," Niko said, hugging her back, before smiling at her when they pulled apart. "So, what the heck are you doing here? The last place I expected to see you again was Beacon."
Blake shrugged and smiled. "I could say the same for you. I knew you went to Beacon, but I had no idea you were a celebrity now."
Niko smirked and flexed. "Haha, well Tiese and Kali did always say I always had a knack for the spotlight. How is she by the way, what about Ghira? I know I saw them a few weeks ago before coming back, but still, I miss them every day!"
Blake's face fell, she hugged her arm and sighed. "You'd… know better than I would. I… I didn't go back to Menagerie before coming here."
Niko's chest burned… he always knew what Blake had been involved in for years. He himself, had never taken a roll in the White Fang, despite his father being one of Ghira's most trusted men when Blake's father had led them. Niko never saw the point in what they did, why be exactly what the humans thought that he was? No, he would change their mind by letting them get to know him.
Blake had been different, they'd grown up together, practically siblings… but they'd taken different paths.
"You… really didn't go back?" Niko said, stuffing his hands on his pockets and shifting from foot to foot. "You… know they miss you, right Blake? They wouldn't be mad at you; you have to know that."
"I do know that… which only makes me feel even worse," She said with a sigh, looking at the ground still. "I came here… to make a difference, to make up for things I've done."
Niko sighed and crossed his arms. "I… bet our mutual friend didn't take very kindly to that decision, did he?"
"No… he didn't," Blake said with a sigh, finally looking back up at him. "You know Adam… when he sets his mind to something he does it, damn the consequences. I… bet he's looking for me."
"Well, you don't have to worry, me and my team will be there if he dares show up!" Niko said, a large smile coming back to his face. "We'll kick his ass right back from where he came!"
Blake chuckled and put a hand on his shoulder. "Yeah… I bet you and your famous team will. Thanks Niko… I… I'm glad that you know… you aren't holding things against me."
Niko shrugged. "It's like Ghira always said, you were on your own path, had to decide what you wanted to do for yourself. And… just like him, I'll always be here for you Baby Belladonna."
She punched his arm and rolled her eyes but smiled while doing it. "Jerk… so… what happens now? Now that we're both here?"
Niko laughed. "HA are you kidding?! Me and my team train you and your future team to be the best huntsman on Remnant! This is awesome, you're here, Robin's sisters are here, maybe you'll all be on the same team!"
"Your leader's sister… she's the one who exploded right?" Blake asked.
"That's her! She's actually really powerful, you'll see, same with Yang!" Niko promised, looking up towards the hallway. "You better get going, we'll talk soon I promise! You got me on your scroll, right?"
A small smile came to Blake's face. "I do yeah… I'm… really happy I saw you here Niko."
He gave her another hug and nodded. "You too Baby Belladonna. I'll see you soon, if you need anything at all just call!"
She nodded and turned to walk away… but something nipped at Niko's mind. He couldn't let her leave without saying it.
"Hey, Blake! One more thing," He called to her.
She stopped in the doorway and turned back to him. "Yeah… what is it?"
Niko cheekily smiled. "I'm… really proud of you. For making the right choice."
Blake stammered for a moment, before smiling, blushing a bit and nodding at him. "Thanks… I'll see you soon."
He nodded and watched her walk off, feeling all the warmer.
"Robin's right…" He muttered to himself, smiling as he watched his surrogate sister walk away. "This year really will be special… now, for some Robin Rose made cookies!"

Ruby sighed as she tried to describe Beacon so far to her friends back at Signal. The fact she was sleeping on the floor certainly didn't help any. She looked around the room and saw the groups of friends all laughing and having a great time, like it was a giant slumber party. Ruby had Yang yes, but she already had people she knew, and Robin, while she was sure would be there with her if he could, she knew as the year went on would have his own classes and dozens of missions with team RAIN.
And to top it all off, she'd already made one negative friend in Weiss.
"Ahhh this is great!" Yang said, falling next to her on the sleeping bag. "It's like a giant slumber party!"
Ruby sighed as she wrote. "Yeah… I'm sure dad wouldn't be very happy about all the boys though."
Yang chuckled and shook her head. "Ha… well I'm certainly not complaining…. Ugh… maybe I actually am."
Ruby looked up and saw Jaune, in full bunny pajamas walk past the wrestling shirtless boy. He seemed to think Yang was staring at him. It made Ruby sigh, that's the one friend I made… still, at least he's nice.
"Soooo what's that?" Yang asked, leaning on her arm next to her.
Ruby sighed and kicked her feet on the air as she laid on her stomach. "A letter to the gang back at Signal. I promised to tell them all about Beacon and how things are going."
"And Robin too?" Yang asked
Ruby rolled her eyes. "Yes, and Robin too, they still call him 'cute'. Honestly? Robin? Cute?"
Yang cackled. "HA, that's because they've never seen him wake up covered in drool like we have at home. Besides, Robin's as awkward around new people as you are, can you imagine him flirting with a girl?"
"Shut up!" She yelled, throwing a pillow at her sister. "Robin got better at it. And I also didn't get to bring all my friends to Beacon with me, it's weird not knowing anyone!"
Yang laughed and tossed the pillow back. "Well, what about Jaune? He's… nice? See! Plus, one friend, that's a 100% increase!"
"I'm pretty sure Weiss counts as a negative friend...back to zero," Ruby muttered, turning onto her back.
"There's no such thing as negative friends!" Yang said with a smirk. "Think of it as you gained on friend, and one enemy!"
Ruby threw another pillow at her.
Yang smiled still. "Look it's only been one day; trust me you have friends all around! You just haven't met them yet. Remember what Robin told us? Other then Niko, he talked to nobody either his first day he was so nervous!"
Ruby sighed. "Well Robin also saved all of Vale from a leviathan, so it got a bit easier for him…"
Before Yang could say anything, a light came on in the auditorium. Ruby sat up and saw that someone had lit a match, someone she realized!
"That girl…" Ruby said, nerves hitting her stomach.
"You know her?" Yang said excitedly, as they both looked over at the black-haired girl reading.
"She was going to help me with Weiss until Robin showed up," Ruby said, shaking her head. "I never got a chance to talk to her…"
Yang grinned and grabbed onto Ruby's arm. "Well, this is your chance!"
"Wait, what are you doing?!" Ruby protested, Yang dragging her along with her.
Ruby's stomach almost exploded, as Yang waved like nothing was wrong over towards the black-haired girl, who was of course buried into the book she was reading. Ruby tried to get away, but Yang's grip was like iron, and it was useless.
"Helloooo!" She said, stopping in front of the girl who slowly looked up. "I believe that you two know each other!"
The girl looked up at Ruby, and when she spoke it didn't help the situation. "Aren't you the… girl who exploded earlier?"
Ruby laughed nervously and tried to salvage the situation. "Ha… yeah! My names Ruby… but you can call me crater…. You know, actually you can just call me Ruby."
"Um… okay?" The girl said, going back to her book, which deflated Ruby.
"What are you doing?!" Yang whispered at her.
"I don't know help me!" Ruby hissed back, and Yang looked back.
"Nice night huh?" Yang asked, before the girl didn't answer again. Yang, however, was persistent. "Sooo what's your name?"
The girl sighed and looked up at them. "It's Blake…"
"Well Blake I'm Yang! Ruby's older sister!" Yang tried to salvage, smiling the whole time. "I like your bow! It looked great with your… pajamas!"
"Right…" The girl-Blake-said, at first going back to her book, before slowly looking up at the both of them again. "Hold on… Ruby and Yang? Are you… Robin Rose's younger sisters?"
"Y… yeah, Robin Rose's sister," Ruby said, pushing out the slight bit of annoyance.
"You bet!" Yang said with a big smile. "That giant goof is our darling big brother! And let me tell you, he's just as much of a doofus as he appears to be."
Blake looked hesitant but nodded again. "I see… well, I was told by one of his teammates, someone I trust, that you were both really good."
"One of his teammates…?" Ruby asked her. "Which one?"
Ruby loved all of Robin's teammates, all three had spent most of the summer with them. Indigo had spent all summer with them, only leaving for a week or two before the semester had started. Azure had been over for a good month or two, the same with Niko. Dad hadn't minded, and neither did Ruby, she didn't see them as members of team RAIN, she saw them as Niko, Indigo and Azure, her friends.
"Niko Moon," Blake said, still not smiling, but not looking as closed off. "I talked to him before we all went on a tour. He spoke really highly of you both."
"Ha, that's Niko! We love him, he's Robin's best friend!" Yang said with a smile. "So, how do you know each other?"
"He's a… friend from a while ago," Blake said, careful with her words. "We can talk later if you both want… but I'd really like to get back to this book."
"What's it about?" Ruby asked suddenly, remembering all the book she used to read… and wanting to try and at least hold a conversation.
"Huh?" Blake said.
"Your book," Ruby asked again. "What's it about?"
"It…it's about a man with two souls," Blake said, looking back down at the words. "Both sides, fighting or control."
"That sounds… interesting?" Yang said, clearly skeptical.
"I… love books," Ruby said, the memories flooding back to her. "Yang and Robin, they'd read to me all the time when I was a kid. Stories of heroes, villains, monsters and adventures. They're part of the reason I want to be a huntress."
Blake laughed a little. "Ha… so you're hoping you'll live happily ever after?"
"Well, I hope we all will," Ruby said, a bit embarrassed by she went on. "As a girl, I wanted to be just like those heroes in the books. Someone who fought for what was right and protected people who couldn't protect themselves! And then… Robin did what he did last year, and I wanted to be just like that."
A small smile came to Blake's face. "That's… very ambitious for a child… unfortunately the real world isn't the same as a fairy tale."
"Well…isn't that why we're here? To make things better?" Ruby said sheepishly.
"Awwwww little red! I'm so proud of you!"
"GAH ROBIN!" Ruby yelled with Yang as they both turned around to see sure enough their brother standing there, flanked by Indigo behind him.
Her brother wiped a little tear from his eye and squeezed her. "I'm so proud of my baby sister, you've grown up so much gahhhhhh right Yang?"
"Right Robin, she's gotten so big!" Yang cooed, hugging her from the other side.
"UGHHH! Both of you get off!" Ruby yelled, before she proceeded to try and wrestle them both off of her like she'd been trying to do since they were kids.
After a few minutes of wrestling, she had given Robin a new bruise on his shoulder, and pinched Yang in the stomach to make her yelp and let her go. That left only Robin crying and hugging her, to which again just like she was a little kid again, pushed and kicked until stepping on his foot and making him fall backwards. Her brother only wore dark red pajama pants and a white shirt, still even after Ruby's victory he smiled at her, his one red one silver eye finally done crying.
"Ruby!" He cried, as Yang helped him up. "I just wanted to bring you cookies!
Ruby's eyes went wide as dinner plates. "Cookies?!"
"Cookies?!" Yang said right afterwards, her mouth watering.
"…Cookies?" Blake said after a minute.
Robin got up, dusted himself off and nodded, looking at Blake. "Yup, made them myself not too long ago, still warm. You're Blake, right? Niko told me about you, feel free to have some! Indigo had them…now where did he run off too."
"Here boss."
"GAHH!" All four of them yelled, as Indigo popped out of the wall right next to them, a large plastic bag of cookies in his hand.
Ruby groaned, but when she got up she swore she saw Indigo smiling to himself like he was about to laugh. The boy was always nice to Ruby, at least with the few words he did say, although sometimes he did frighten her a bit, like he did just then. However, Robin told her he did it to everyone.
Robin sighed and rolled his eyes. "Good god Ind, you need to stop that before you give someone a heart attack, but I will say, thanks for not eating them all."
"It was hard," Indigo said, handing the bag over to Robin. Ruby's mouth started to water again, very few things were as good as the food Robin made.
"Alright," Her brother said, taking the bag and smiling at them all. Her, Yang and even Blake seemed intoxicated by the smell. He smiled cheekily and held the bag up. "Who wants-."
"Will you all keep it down!" An annoyed voice said from behind them, and they all turned. Ruby's heart sank when she saw Weiss with that same look as she had earlier. "Some of us are trying to-. Robin!"
Ruby's let out a sigh of relief, but she saw Yang smirking. Robin seemed oblivious, he simply smiled over at Weiss, who just had on her pajamas, her hair down.
"Oh, hey Weiss," He said, holding up a cookie. "Want a cookie?"
"I… I…" Weiss started stammering, looking from Robin to Ruby, and when she finally did, she found her voice again. "I'd rather you all keep it down! Some of us are trying to sleep!"
"Ugh, not you again!" Yang said, sounding annoyed.
"Guys she's right, people are trying to sleep! Let's just have cookies and go to bed!" Ruby scrambled to explain.
Weiss scoffed. "Oh, now you're on my side?!"
"I was always on your side!" Ruby said, hearing Robin even chuckle behind her.
"Yeah, what's your problem with my sister? She was just trying to be nice! And then when my brother shows up you wanna act all nice yourself?!" Yang yelled back at the white-haired girl.
Weiss's face got a little red, and she looked at Robin-who just seemed amused at the situation-before looking back to Ruby and Yang.
She pointed accusingly at Ruby. "She is a hazard to my health! And… and Robin has nothing to do with this! I just believe the siblings of such a well-respected individual should act as such!"
"Robin's an even bigger goofball then Ruby is!" Yang argued.
"Hey!" Robin and Ruby both said at the same time.
Weiss groaned and crossed her arms. "That doesn't matter! I expected the siblings of Team RAIN's leader to be-."
"Ha… okay, let's all calm down," Robin said, stepping in the middle with his bag of cookies, first he smiled over at Weiss. "Weiss, we promise to calm down, why don't you take some cookies back with you? They're really good believe me, they'll help you fall asleep."
Weiss stammered again at Robin's attention. "I… I supposed I wouldn't be opposed to a snack before bed."
"Good," Robin said with his trademark smile, before looking back at Ruby and Yang, even Blake who was trying to go back to her book. "And I wanted to talk with you before initiation tomorrow, maybe help you get the jitters out, what do you say? Who knows, maybe tomorrow things will change, we'll all be friends and we can laugh about this!"
"I highly doubt that…" Weiss said with a sigh but nodded her thanks. "But… thank you Robin, for the offer."
Robin smiled, handed Weiss a few cookies, after saying thank you again, the white-haired girl left back towards her section of the room. Ruby was stunned. Robin had changed since he got back from his first year at Beacon. Her brother of two years prior would have stammered his way through that whole conversation like she almost had. He even made Weiss blush in front of him! And from what Ruby had seen of her so far, she assumed that was hard.
It made her smile too, seeing her brother pull out the cookies and sit in between him and Yang. He even gave some to Blake, who eagerly accepted and seemed relieved she finally got to go back to her book. Ruby took one of the cookies and shoved the whole thing into her mouth, stars appearing in her eyes as she did. They were as amazing as all of Robin's cooking… something he had learned from mom.
Yang gushed as she ate. "Oh man Robin, these are amazing! How many did you make?!"
Robin laughed and shook his head. "Az and Niko are back in our room with the rest, so this is all I have, they were tired."
Ruby looked around and realized someone was missing. "Um… where'd Indigo go? He never misses food."
Robin shrugged. "Don't know, he's probably chowing down on an extra one he stole in the wall somewhere. Or he went back to the room."
"Can't wait till we get our room," Yang said, leaning on her side to eat another cookie, before she rolled her eyes. "I just hope it's not with the ice princess over there."
Robin laughed. "Haha, oh come on, she's not that bad."
Ruby's stomach churned. She hated the idea of anyone hating her, she wanted everyone to be her friend, to fight with everyone, to make memories with all her classmates, and that even included Weiss. She needed to show that she belonged.
Yang scoffed. "How can you say that? She's been so mean to Ruby all day!"
"Yang…" Ruby muttered, but thankfully Robin spoke up again.
He shrugged with a cookie in hand. "I talked to her a bit before I found you guys. She was nice to me then. And who knows, maybe she's like rest of us, nervous on her first day and she's just lashing out, she's from Atlas, she probably doesn't know anyone. She was nice to me when we talked."
"That's because you're the leader of team RAIN, the local celebrity," Yang said with another eye roll.
"Maybe that is the reason," Robin said with a shrug. "But even if she did, kindness is kindness. Like I said maybe she's just as nervous as the rest of you, she just shows it in a different way. You both remember what mom said, everyone deserves a chance."
Yang sighed. "You're always quoting mom… I hate that she's normally right."
"Mom did always make a habit of it," Robin noted, holding up another cookie and looking over at Ruby next. "So little red, ready for tomorrow?"
Ruby shakily sighed and looked down at her cookies, before readying herself and nodded. Tomorrow was initiation, no more talking to people and awkward 'get to know yous'.
"I am!" She said, looking at Yang and Robin both. "I'm ready to show them what I can do!"
XxxxxxxxxxxxxxX
"This… this is amazing," Weiss said, nibbling at the cookie at first, before taking a larger bite, far larger then she normally would. "How… how did he get the chocolate to melt so perfectly? It's not too hard, not too soft, he's a genius! I… I need to learn how to… Indigo?"
Weiss's complete amazement at Robin Rose's baking skills were put on hold the moment she saw the boy she used to know near the door of the auditorium just appearing out of the shadows. She was still reeling from seeing Robin again, she hadn't expected him to visit his annoyingly uncoordinated sister that night. She had no idea what she'd do now, was she really going to have to put up with such incompetence to get to know Robin Rose?
He… isn't at all what I expected, and the oddest thing is, that I don't really mind, she thought of him. Yes, his sister had exploded and seemed far too young to be where she was, and his other one was far louder then Weiss would prefer, but… could they really be as skilled as him? In a normal situation, she'd have been put off by them both, but knowing who their brother was, and how nice he'd been to her despite how… difficult she may have been, she supposed she could give them both a chance.
After all… she didn't wish to be alone again.
However, her other link to Robin Rose, was Indigo. She hadn't spoken to the boy in years, despite when they were younger having spoke quite a bit. Weiss wouldn't forget the rage Archibald, Indigo's father, had displayed at her family's manner the last time Indigo had been to one of their parties. Indigo had told his father that night he would be attending Beacon and not Atlas.
Archibald… hadn't reacted in a very kind way, it hit far too at home for Weiss.
Both of them were the same in many ways, both with their futures already planned out for them, desperate to impress an older sibling that had been brave enough to challenge their fate.
And both somehow incredibly alone despite the massive homes they lived in. The difference between the two however, was Indigo had taken a lot less time to strive to become more then just his family name.
"Indigo!" Weiss yelled, just before he could slip into the wall shadows again.
He stopped when he heard his name, and quickly finishing her last cookie, Weiss caught up to him.
"Weiss…?" He said, and she wasn't sure if it was a question, or just a statement.
He looked just like she remembered, just… well older. Long purple hair that fell in bangs nearly over his eyes, he wore a dark purple hoodie and black pajama pants. He had a cookie halfway to his mouth, his eyes on her, seemingly stunned that it was her.
She nodded and offered a smile. "It's me yes. It's lovely to see you again indigo! It's been years since we last spoke, you seem to have done quite well for yourself."
He shrugged, seemingly over his shock. "I guess."
Weiss stammered as she had almost forgotten had hard it was at times to hold a conversation with him. "I was happy to see it! Why… why didn't you return home after your first year?"
"Didn't want too."
"Um… don't you think your father would have wanted to see you?" Weiss asked, not entirely surprised by his answer.
Indigo stuffed his hands in his hoodie pocket. "Don't care."
Weiss tried to form words for a few moments… but realized again she partially expected his answer. Indigo hadn't spoken like he was now for a long time, only since they were around nine years old. However… after an incident, Weiss simply found he came back speaking like he did now. It had broken Weiss's heart, her old friend seemingly changed overnight.
"I… I see," Weiss said, rubbing her cold arm. Sighing she met his eyes, and even though he looked away she still spoke. "Well, I had a chance to speak with your leader earlier! He's… quite nice. At first I just wanted to meet the leader of team RAIN but… he's very genuine."
"Boss is a great guy," Indigo said, showing the slightest hints of a smile. "Talked about you."
Weiss' eyes widened. "He did? What did he say?!"
"Said you were nice," Indigo said with a shrug. "Hoped you'd come around."
Weiss sighed… of course. She couldn't hope to have Robin's support in her studies without making amends with his siblings, as hard as she knew that'd be for her. She'd worry about that later, the important thing was, that she had to have made some kind of impression for him to speak about her to his teammates.
"I… am very touched by that then," She said, keeping her smile, trying to see if the old Indigo she'd spoken too after her concerts was still there. "But, what about you? How are you Indigo, we haven't spoken in years."
"I'm okay," He simply said, and Weiss was beginning to think she was fighting a losing battle… but he went on after that. "And… you?"
Weiss smiled. "I've been very well, thank you. Have… you spoken to Lilac lately?"
"Now and then," He answered, finally meeting her eyes. "Winter?"
"The same…" Weiss said, lamenting the fact. "But last I did, she told me Lilac and she both serve directly under General Ironwood now."
"Don't like Ironwood," Indigo said. "Seems like a jerk."
"Well… he is our sister's boss," Weiss said, ignoring the comment, but smiling still at Indigo. "I'm… happy I got to see you Indigo. Perhaps it'll be like old times again."
Back when she counted the boy as one of her only friends, during the difficult days of her childhood, despite how rarely they spoke.
"Yeah… maybe," Indigo said with a shrug, pulling up his hood and yawning. "Tired, gonna go to bed."
"Oh!" Weiss said, realizing how late it was. Across the room she could hear Robin still talking and laughing with his sisters, if she didn't go to sleep soon, they'd think she was watching them.
She nodded. "Of course, I should as well. I hope to see you again soon Indigo. And… well…"
"I'll put in a word with boss," Indigo said, and when Weiss got flustered, she swore she saw him laugh. He went to walk away… but stopped, his back to her. "Hey… Weiss?"
"I would have you know; I do not need a 'word put in' with Robin!" She clarified first, crossing her arms and stamping her foot. "But… what is it?"
Indigo turned his head back to her and smiled. "Thanks… for being my friend."
"Of course," She said, smiling now. She could remember the first time she had met Indigo like it was yesterday. "We… were both alone."
He nodded. "Yeah…not anymore. Boss changed that… see you."
Without another word, or waiting for her response, he disappeared into a puff of black smoke into the shadow of the wall.
Weiss managed a smile, turning back to see Robin still sitting cross-legged on the ground between his two sisters. He laughed at something the blonde said, and then ruffled the hair of the one who had exploded in her face. An odd pang of jealousy hit her chest… she had missed that herself growing up.
But soon, that would all change. She'd redeem her families name… and make one for herself.

Robin always felt better with his swords on his waist. It made him feel more protected, he remembered designing both swords and the sheaths for them at Signal with his Uncle Qrow. Ruby had always asked him why he didn't choose a scythe like their Uncle, and Robin could never really answer. It was mostly because he wanted something that could act as a bow and a sword. Of course, like his Uncle's sword, despite his being much slimmer, if he pressed a button two high caliber pistols fired from the hilts of his blades. The cable that shot out and connected them both was some of the most durable material he could find and made for perfect grappling line from arrows he shot. Under his cape, horizontally across his back was the quiver, which with the turn of a dial produced a multitude of different dust arrows, along with grappling ones.
This way, he had great mobility and versatility with his weapons. He could fight at close or long range, and combined with his semblance, he thought he found the perfect combination. It clearly was working well, if his team's success the previous year was anything to go by.
Now, he was determined not only to lead his team to even greater heights, but they had all agreed they were prepared to help Ruby and Yang's future team as much as they could, that way they'd make this year at Beacon even better than they had planned!
But, knowing Ruby and Yang, they're probably a bit nervous, god knows I was, he thought as he peeked his way into the locker room. A large group of first years were all congregating, getting weapons and other preparations done before initiation. Thanks to Yang's very distinctive hair, he could spot her and Ruby in the back, he went to make his way over to her when he heard his name called.
"Oh, Robin!" It said, and when he turned, he smiled.
"Hey there Weiss," He said, as the white-haired girl stepped over to him from a locker, a bright smile on her face. "All ready for your initiation?"
"Absolutely," She said, meeting him next to a locker. "I've been ready to show my skill since we landed, will you be watching? Or do you have other business to attend to?"
Robin nodded. "Of course, I will. Most second years watch the live stream, but me and the guys may head out and pick a cliff to watch the action in person. I can't wait for people to see Ruby and Yang!"
At the mention of both his sisters Weiss balked but nodded at him. "Well, perhaps you could keep an eye on me as well. I would be honored to receive some pointers from someone like yourself."
Robin smiled and nodded. Yes, it was a bit grating that Weiss hadn't connected right away with Ruby and Yang. However, he liked to think he was a good judge of character. It was like he told Ruby and Yang, yes, now Weiss may only be talking to him due to him being team RAIN's leader. His mother though, had taught him to always give people a real chance. If Weiss was still this way in a few weeks… he'd be ready to admit he may have been wrong.
However, she was kind, well spoken, intelligent, and Robin enjoyed their first meeting. He was also more than sure that just like with everyone, Weiss would come to love Ruby, his sister just had that way with people. The fact Robin found her incredibly pretty as well, was a separate fact.
He also had new information on Weiss from Indigo. Although it wasn't much, he had told Robin that Weiss was 'nice', which he already knew deep down she probably was.
But it was the fact it came from Indigo that made Robin think there was much more to Weiss then met the eyes. It took someone special to get Indigo to speak more then four words at a time.
"Of course, when I said at the assembly, I'm always happy to help, I meant it," He said, looking down at the rapier on her hip. "Do you mind?"
"Oh, not at all!" She said, pulling the weapon out and handing it to him. "It's called Myrtenaster! It's a state-of-the-art MADR, a-."
"Multi-Action-Dust-Rapier… impressive, a little light for my liking," He said with a smile, looking at the revolving dust cannisters and giving it a few light swings. "But still, it's gorgeous. A perfect weapon for you Weiss."
He saw her face get a tinge redder as he swung it a few times, twirling it around his arm effortlessly, before handing it back to her. She smiled as he did, slipping it back into her belt.
"I'm honored to hear that," She said with another bow, and Robin laughed.
"Ha, you know you don't have to bow right? I'm not royalty or anything, I'm your friend," He said, his arms crossed.
Weiss's eyes widened, and Robin titled his head. "We… are right?"
"O… of course!" Weiss said stammering, shaking her head. "I… just didn't assume you'd say that, considering the sour taste both your siblings have left in my mouth. I thought you'd well… not be particularly fond of me after that."
Robin scoffed and waved it off. "That? I'm not worried, because I know once you get to know Ruby and Yang after a few weeks, you'll love them. Besides, anyone who Indigo of all people says more than five words about, has to be nice."
"Indigo?!" She said, seeming even redder now. "He… spoke about me to you… what did he say?"
Robin laughed. "Ha, just that you were… nice, which I already assumed. But he also said you're strong, funny, and your sisters know each other which surprised me because I had no idea Indigo had a sister."
Robin remembered all three of him, Niko and Azure had dropped their toothbrushes learning that, and hearing Indigo speak in basically full sentences. It really didn't matter to Robin, Indigo was his teammates, his friend, his surrogate brother, but still… learning about him was a pleasant shock. It also helped learning more about Weiss as well, the little Indigo did tell him.
Weiss composed herself and nodded. "I… hope to live up to what he said to you. But he's correct, his sister Lilac is friends and comrades with my sister Winter. I'm eager to prove my skill to you Robin, I'll show you just how exceptional I am."
Robin managed to smirk and put a hand on her shoulder as he walked past her. "Eager to prove yourself huh? Sounds like someone I know!"
They both looked over to see Ruby and Yang, Ruby was pointing accusingly at Yang and Robin had a multitude of things he thought she could be yelling about. Weiss seemed to see what he was implying and floundered, opening and closing her mouth, which made Robin laughed, which in turn made her face get red.
"Ha… good luck Weiss, I mean it," He said to her with a kind smile. "If you want some sword lessons or well, need anything else feel free to come to me!"
He meant it, he trusted his instincts, and he trusted Indigo, he thought Weiss Schnee was more then she'd shown so far. She only nodded before Robin made his way over to Ruby and Yang, and he was able to catch the last piece of their conversation. He ignored some of the first years gawking, pointing and whispering his name.
He'd never get used to that.
"My darling sister Yang," Ruby said accusingly. "Are you implying that you don't want to be on the same team as me?!"
"Whaaat?!" Yang said, running her hands through her golden hair. "No! I just… you know, thought it would be good for you to grow up a little bit, you know, break out of your shell! Meet new people!"
"I don't need people to help me grow up!" Ruby said with her chin up. "I drink milk!"
"To much milk, dad or I need to go buy new cartoons every two days or so," Robin said as he came up behind her, making Yang burst out laughing and Ruby turn to glare at him.
"You're not innocent in the milk drinking either!" She said, turning and pointing back at Yang. "Robin, can you believe it, Yang was insinuating she didn't want to be on my team!"
"I was not!" Yang defended, and Robin could only laugh. Yang shook her head. "I was kidding! I thin Robin will agree with me though, it'll be good for you to meet new people."
"She is right Ruby," Robin said, as his youngest sister turned to him, but as she did, he smiled. "But the awkward small talk part is over, time for some action. You got everything right? Extra rounds, one already loaded? Yang what about you? Everything ready?"
"Ughhh, Robin!" Ruby complained, trying to wriggle away as he checked to make sure her hood was attached, and she had all of her ammo. "You're embarrassing me!"
"She's right!" Yang said, rolling her eyes as he checked her ammo as well. "We're not amateurs Robin, you're doing it again!"
"Doing what?" He asked, as he counted out all of Ruby's bullets to make sure she had enough.
"Fussing over us!" Ruby complained, finally wriggling away and glaring at him.
"Of course, I'm fussing over you," Robin said, smirking as he looked at them. "I'm your big brother after all."
"Yes, but what did Dad say?" Yang countered, narrowing her eyes at him, hands on her hips. "He told you to not interfere and let us do our own thing!"
Robin sighed, she had him there. That had been the last thing their dad had told him before he left for Beacon. He wanted to be hands off, to let Ruby and Yang find their own path, like he had to do the year prior. He'd be there to help them sure… but they were the most important people in the world for him, he couldn't help himself.
He held his hands up and sighed. "Alright, alright I'm sorry… you both know how I worry."
Ruby gave him a smile. "We know, and we appreciate it… but now it's time to trust us. We'll handle this no problem, right Yang?"
"She's right!" Yang said, coming to give him a hug. "We'll be in and out no problem, and before you know it, our teams going to be heading toe to toe with team RAIN."
Robin managed to laugh. He looked at them both smiling and confident, it helped calm down is nerves about the both of them heading into the forest that only a few days ago his team had fought an ancient grimm inside on Ozpin's orders.
Still… you have to trust them, like they said, he thought, managing to smile.
"Alright… just be careful. Yang, make sure not to charge recklessly into anything you're not sure about," He told his oldest sister, before turning over to Ruby. "And Ruby, I know you want to prove yourself here, but don't let that cloud your judgement, be smart and people will see. Both of you promise me you'll do those things to put my mind at ease."
"Promise!" Yang said, with a punch of his arm.
Ruby nodded. "I promise, we'll be alright."
Robin sucked in a breath and smiled, reaching out and hugging the both of them. "Okay then, just remember that forest is no joke. Don't wonder too deep, the guys and I will be watching if you need anything call us."
"I… thought Professor Ozpin said we'd get no outside help?" Ruby said hesitantly as they started walking towards the door.
Robin scoffed. "I'd follow Professor Ozpin's orders through anything, just like Uncle Qrow, but I'm sorry, if you end up in serious danger, I won't stand by."
Yang laughed. "Ha, no need to worry Robin! Ruby and I can-."
"AHHHHHH!" A high pitched voice yelled, and Robin stopped in between his sisters.
A boy with blonde hair-the one he remembered seeing vomit- was held up by his jacket with a red and orange spear. Weiss was walking past him, and a taller girl with red hair and armor walked past to grab the spear from the wall.
"I'm sorry!" She said as she walked by, the words sounding genuine.
Robin's eyes went wide. That must be Pyrrha Nikos, Azure's description was spot on. I wonder if she really is as good as us already, certainly sounds like it from her accomplishments.
Azure had told them about Pyrrha, saying that he'd seen her fight in Mistral tournaments the previous four years. That combined with her very popular cereal box ad, even Robin knew she had to be good. Azure had claimed that she could go to toe with him, Niko or Indigo, even going as far as to say she could stand up to Robin himself if Robin wasn't using him semblance.
Robin by no means considered himself cocky, he hated the attention he got most of the time, but he knew that what Azure said probably wasn't true. Even without his semblance, after his last year at Beacon with his team, then more training with his dad and Uncle over the summer, it would take someone special. He'd be eager to meet that person, so he made a note to keep an eye out for Pyrrha Nikos.
"Having a tough time there lady killer?" Yang said, reaching to help the groaning blonde-haired boy to his feet.
"I don't get it!" The boy said, and Robin couldn't help but chuckle at his disbelief. "My dad said all a girl looks for is confidence, that's what I was doing!"
Ruby cringed next to him, and Robin remembered what he was talking about. As he had been talking to Ruby, he remembered seeing this boy in her peripheral vision talked to Pyrrha and Weiss. He didn't catch all of the conversation, but he remembered hearing the name 'Snow Angel'.
It made Robin cringe himself, he was no expert on girls, but he didn't think that was a very good nickname.
"Yeah… Snow Angel, wasn't the best start," Yang said with a laugh, gesturing back to Robin. "Besides your 'snow angel', has been ogling my brother since we got here."
Robin nearly choked, and Ruby looked uncomfortable. "Yang! She has not been 'ogling' me!"
His oldest sister tossed her head back and laugh. "Haha, you're dense as a rock big brother."
Ruby laughed at Robin's flustered face. What was Yang talking about? He was sure he'd know if a girl was flirting with him, Coco had done it a lot of last year. Robin might have reciprocated those feelings if he didn't find her and her purse horrifying most times.
"Oh man… him!" The blonde boy said with a sigh as Ruby went to help him up. "I don't stand a… wait a minute, you're the guy who gave the speech yesterday in the auditorium."
Robin chuckled. "Ha, yeah that's me. Robin Rose at your service. Don't listen to Yang, if we leave her home alone, her and our dog almost burned down the house."
"That was one time!" Yang yelled.
"Three times…" Ruby muttered, making Robin laugh as she got the boy to his feet. "But let me introduce you, Jaune, this is me and Yang's older brother Robin. You've probably heard of him."
"No… never have," Jaune groaned, and Robin raised an eyebrow as the boy held out a hand. "But still, it's nice to meet you, Robin."
Yang and Ruby both looked at each other perplexed, but Robin was elated. Since he'd been back at Beacon, people were beginning to look at him like he was some kind of untouchable figure. So, he eagerly went and shook Jaune's hand as he saw Yang about to say something.
"Great to meet you too Jaune!" He said smiling and grabbing the boy's hand. "Thanks for keeping these two company, believe me, I know they're a handful."
"Hey!" Yang and Ruby both complained at once.
Robin laughed, and he even saw Jaune crack a smile. The boy nodded. "Ha… I should be thanking them. Been a rough first two days."
"It was the same for me last year," Robin said, patting Jaune on the back. "Just trust in your weapon, your instincts, your aura and you'll be fine!"
Jaune looked confused. "My um… my what now? My aur-."
"Ummm Ruby, Jaune, we should get going, we have five minutes!" Yang yelled, dragging Ruby by the arm. "See you after we're done Robin! Come on Jaune!"
"Wait, that sounded important," Jaune said looking back at Robin. "Robin, what's aur-."
Robin could only chuckle as he watched Yang pull Ruby and Jaune both out of the room. After they were gone, the locker room was empty. He went to his scroll, and sure enough Niko had sent him team RAIN's location in the forest. Settling his nerves one last time he went to call him best-friend.
"Ruby… Yang, they will both be alright," He told himself, walking to the window overlooking the forest and throwing it open.
XxxxxxxxxxxxxxX
"It looks like that Pyrrha Nikos is the real deal," Niko said, a pair of binoculars in hand. A loud bird's screech pierced the air and Niko nodded. "According to Iggly, her and that skinny blonde kid are heading towards a cave."
Jaune didn't seem very… coordinated, at least he has a powerful partner, Robin thought with a sigh, chewing at his lip. He may even be better off then….
"FOCUS RUBY!" He yelled, even though he knew his sister couldn't hear him. His sister and her new partner were clearly visible to him, he saw her clearly thanks to his semblance, even when the forest started going up in flames. "Anddddd, she set the forest on fire…"
"It wasn't totally Ruby's fault," Azure said, pulling back his spyglass from his right. "Her and the ice queen aren't communicating."
"You're right…" Robin said with a sigh, deactivating his semblance for a minute to rest his eyes. He rubbed his temples and looked at Azure who'd elongated his spyglass again. "How're Yang and Blake doing?"
"Ha, I can't believe our luck, Baby Belladonna, Ruby, Yang, Ice Queen," Niko said with admiration as he kept his eyes out over the ridge. "That's shaping up to be quite the team if they all pick the right relics."
"They will, Ruby and Yang aren't stupid, they'll figure it out," Robin said, sitting and letting his legs dangle over the cliff, before reactivating his semblance. "They'll just need to learn to work together. Individuals don't make a team."
"Well, they can't be any worse then we were when we first started out," Azure said, his spyglass scanning the horizon, no doubt following Yang and Blake.
"He's right," Indigo said, sitting with his legs over the ridge, eating another bag of chips. "We sucked."
Robin sighed, they all had a point. If Ruby and Weiss did end up with Blake and Yang like he thought, and all Indigo and Niko said about Blake and Weiss was true, it could be one of the best teams at Beacon. However, as Robin scanned the forest and found Ruby and Weiss's aura again, he saw that they had escape the fire, but the two were currently screaming at each other.
Ruby must have finally lost it… he thought with another sigh. His semblance let him see them both clearly even through the trees, their aura bright with how angry they both surely were. He couldn't hear them, but he saw them both get into each other's faces, before Weiss turned and stalked away. A forlorn look appeared on Ruby's face, kicking the dirt around her before she followed after the white-haired girl. His eyes now were glowing a multitude of different colors that let him see what was happening, he saw the distance shadows of Ruby and Weiss both in the future, where they'd step, what hand they'd use. His semblance was handy for more then just fighting, but also recon and times like this as well.
The four of them had been out there for a little over an hour now, tracking the progress of his sister, and the other first years as well. Robin felt bad for Jaune in particular, who clearly had no idea what a 'landing strategy' was, but he had no doubt Ozpin had flung him into the forest anyway. However, most of his attention had been on Ruby after she'd found Weiss, and their many ensuing arguments afterwards. Yang had found Blake and the two seemed to be getting on well enough, Azure had been watching them, while he had Niko use his summoned Eagle-Iggly was its name- to help keep an eye on Pyrrha and Jaune.
He wouldn't lie, watching his sister struggle was hard… but it's like they had said, he needed to believe in them both.
"Keep a look out you two," He said, standing up to stretch his legs. "I'm gonna rest my eyes."
Niko and Azure both nodded and kept their binoculars and spyglass out. Niko had Iggly reporting in, he didn't only summon his animal familiars, but he could also communicate with them. Azure had his seismic senses; he could probably feel the vibrations of Yang and Blake walking from the cliff they'd decided to watch the action from.
Robin started pacing with his stomach churning, before pulling out one of the candy bars he'd stuck in his jacket pocket. The dark red garment, along with his cape blew back in the wind, but as he looked at the chocolate in his hand, his appetite left him.
"Boss," Indigo said, walking up next to him, his eyes on the candy. "Gonna eat that?"
"No," He decided, sighing as he handed it to his purple-haired teammate. "All yours, I think I lost my appetite…"
He could hear distant gunfire and looked down at the two swords at his waist. His swords were slimmer than his Uncle's and could change color depending on the dust he set the blades too, same with the quiver of rotating arrows on the small of his back. It would have been so easy for him to leapt down off the cliff, find Ruby and help get her to the temple ruins. He crossed the plateau they were on and looked over at a set of temple ruins not far away. A year ago, he and his team had retrieved relics there, before managing just barely to defeat a pack of grimm and get back to Ozpin, yes his team hadn't been very good when they first formed like Azure had said.
However, through hard work they had come together, they only had each other. He was strong now, and what was the point of it if he couldn't help his two sisters?
The ruins with the chess pieces that Ozpin was using for relics this year, was only a short walk away from a large cluster of stone ruins built into the mountainside, it would be dangerous if any grimm pushed the first years that way. It didn't help calm his nerves.
"What's wrong boss?" Indigo said, coming up next to him as they both looked over at the ruins. If need be, the four of them could be there in minutes, and Robin found himself calculating the time in his head, and his route to get there already.
Sighing and realizing he's doing exactly what he told Ruby and Yang he wouldn't do; he shook his head. "I'm alright Ind… just worried. Ruby and Yang are tough but, I mean we just fought an ancient grimm in this forest a few weeks ago, anything could happen!"
"They'll be fine," Indigo said, standing next to him and stuffing his hands into his hoodie pockets.
Robin shook his head. "Your confidence is infectious Ind… wish I shared it."
Indigo was a man of few words, but the few words he did say often had deeper meaning. Robin looked over at him, and his teammates was smiling before patting him on the shoulder.
"Ruby, Yang, they're tough," He said simply. "Weiss, she's tough. Trust them."
Robin's stomach churned again, he knew Indigo was right, he had the utmost confidence in Ruby and Yang's ability, and he trusted Indigo's judgement on Weiss. Also, he trusted Niko's words, when he said that Blake Belladonna was as fast as he was. His sisters seemed to be in good hands… so why was he worried?
He knew why deep down, he knew that worry was irrational… but still, despite all of his achievements so far, he still blamed himself for things years in the past. That was why he was so determined to get stronger, so he'd never lose anyone again.
Indigo squeezed his shoulder, and when Robin looked at him he smiled. Over the summer, Robin had learned that Indigo when he wanted, was good at that, helping calm your nerves. Sometimes all it took was a few words.
"Thanks, Ind…" He said, patting his teammates shoulder. "By the way, how come you never told us that you had a sister? Do you two not get along?"
Indigo didn't seem phased; he only shook his head. "No, love Lilac."
Robin tilted his head. "Then how come you never said anything? You could've invited her over the house during the summer if you wanted."
This time, Indigo's eyes did widen. "Heck no."
"Why not?" He asked.
Indigo shrugged. "She's like you."
Robin scoffed. "What do you mean, 'like me'?"
"Embarrassingly affectionate with me in public."
"What?! I am not! I have never embarrassed Ruby and Yang in public!" Robin said, slightly offended.
Indigo rolled his eyes. "Whatever you say boss."
Robin fumed for a minute, before letting the comment drop. If this was how Indigo was, he could only imagine what his older sister was like. Apparently, she was a high up in the Atlas military, but could someone related to Indigo really be that… serious?
He was in the middle of trying to imagine an older, female version of Indigo, when Azure and Niko called out to him.
"Um… Robin?" Azure said first, hesitantly. "We got good news and bad news."
"What?!" Robin said, turning back to them. "What's happening!"
"Well…. The good news is Yang and Blake made it to the ruins," Azure said, turning back around and looking out over the cliff, pointing out over the trees. "Bad news… Ruby and Weiss are hanging off the back of a giant Nethermore."
"WHAT?!" Robin yelled, rushing to the edge of the cliff… and he didn't need his semblance to see what was going on.
Flying over the trees, was a massive Nethermore, on par with the size of the ancient grimm they'd fought only a few weeks prior. He squinted, and again without having to activate his semblance, he could see Weiss's bright white coat hanging off one side, and then to his horror his youngest sister a few feet away from her.
"RUBY!" He tried to yell for her, his hands reaching for his swords.
"More bad news…" Niko said, pulling back his binoculars. "Pyrrha and the scraggily kid are running from a… god dammit that's a Deathstalker!"
Robin did turn on his semblance this time, and through the trees he saw the massive scorpion like grimm rushing out of the cave. Poor Jaune was hanging onto its tail. So that was his sister, and three other first years fighting grimm that were supposed to be reserved for teams like his.
He didn't think twice, he reached down to his waist and spun the dust cannisters, bringing them to the fire setting. The Nevermore flew around the plateau, and he rushed to the edge, pulling out both swords making them hum to life. Without a second thought he pressed the button on both of them, and the cable shot between their hilts. He slammed them both together and pressed another button, letting that same cable shoot from one curved end to the other.
Bow now in hand, Robin reached to his waist, pressing a button on the quiver, before an arrow with a long barbed, hooked tip came out. It was one of his grappling arrows, and just as the Nevermore came for another pass, Ruby and Weiss screaming as they hung on, he got to one knee, took aim and turned on his semblance. The massive grimm's shadow appeared to him, and he saw its future shadow flying towards the ruins, and he took aim in that direction.
"Monster…" Robin muttered, pulling the string back. "I'll show you what-."
"Robin stop!" Niko yelled, and just before Robin could let the arrow fly, his best-friend yanked back his shoulder and stopped him.
Robin's eyes grew dark, as the arrow and his bow fell to the ground. He spun around on Niko furious.
"What the hell Niko?!" He demanded, going to reach for his bow again.
Only to have Azure their picking it up and holding it away from him.
Robin shook his head, growling still. "Az! What are you-."
"We can't interfere Robin," Azure said with a sigh, holding onto Robin's weapon. "It's their initiation, you know the rules, no outside interference or help is allowed."
Robin's hand curled into fists. "Are you crazy?! Ruby's hanging off the back of a Nevermore! She could be killed if she-."
"She's falling," Indigo said, pointing out over the ridge.
"RUBY!" Robin yelled again, rushing to the ledge.
The rest of his team rushed with him, Robin almost fell off the cliff but managed to stop himself, before turning on his semblance, a rush of aura flooding to his eyes. He saw the Nevermore swirling above the ruins with the relics for the first-years to collect, and saw his sister yelling as she fell down towards the trees. Looking further he saw Yang and Blake in the clearing right in front of the relics watching what was happening, Yang looking up towards Ruby who was falling.
"USE YOUR SEMBLANCE, COME ON RUBY!" He yelled, despite again knowing his voice wouldn't reach her. He watched and would have fallen over the ridge if Niko hadn't caught onto his jacket and pulled him back.
He stood and with his semblance still active, he saw Ruby falling towards the ground near Yang. It looked like she'd smash into the ground, but then out of nowhere someone else came flinging from the other side of the forest and slammed into her, sending them both into the branches of a tree.
Robin sighed. "Thank you Jaune…"
After seeing Ruby was okay, watching her scatter down the tree towards Yang, he whirled back on his team, all of whom were looking at him. Azure clicked the button on his bow, which turned it back into the two slightly curved swords, and held them away from him.
Robin shook his head. "Rules be damned, we're going to help them, Niko, take Ind, Az, find a spot closer, maybe near those ruins, I'll go down and-."
"No Robin… we can't," Niko said with a sigh, meeting his eyes. "You know I'd never disobey an order from you, I trust you with my life… but we can't go down there."
"You're insane, how could you say that!" Robin argued back to them. "Not only is it Ruby and Yang, but all of them are in danger! That's a Nevermore and a Deathstalker, those are things that we're supposed to hunt, not first-years!"
He was going to have a serious talk with Ozpin about clearing out the Emerald forest of these massive grimm, it was irrational to expect all first-years to fight such beasts.
His three teammates looked at each other, before it was Azure who shook his head. "Robin… we know you just want to help them, and you're worried, but you told them you'd let them handle it."
"Yes, Az, but that was before I saw a Deathstalker and a Nevermore chasing them!" Robin said again, turning back to the temple, wanting to leap off the edge, but not wanting to do it without his weapon.
"They'll be alright Robin," Niko said, coming up with a hand on Robin's shoulder. "They're both as stubborn as you are. You know we'd never let them be in any real danger, right? We love them like our own."
Robin's fist curled again, it was true, he did know that. He knew all three of his teammates had complicated lives back in their respective homes, which was the reason they all had stayed with him for a large chunk of the summer. It had been a great help to him and Taiyang hadn't minded at all, it gave him more hands around the house.
Ruby and Yang hadn't minded either, they had seen it as having new friends over at the house, new people to meet, huntsman to learn from and train with. It had been amazing, and when he turned to look at them now, he felt like a fool. Of course, they wouldn't just stand back when Ruby and Yang were in real danger. Still, Robin's stomach was on fire, and when he turned he shook his head.
"I know you all do…" He sighed, turning his semblance back on to watch the group of first years, still talking to his team. "But I can't just sit back while they're in danger. I can't, not again, I… no… NO RUBY WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!"
The rest of team RAIN rushed to the edge, pulling out binoculars to watch with him as they saw Robin's youngest sister rushing straight for the Deathstalker. Crescent Rose appeared in her hand, and she slammed the blade into the ground to take shots, but the Deathstalkers shell was far too hard, and the bullets had no effect. She deflected the pincers and stinger with the blade of her scythe, and when the Nevermore circled around she seemed to finally realize she needed to retreat.
She turned and tried to run back towards Yang and the others, but the Nevermore shot its quills down and one of them caught onto her hood. Robin screamed. He knew how strong those quills were, and the Deathstalker was getting closer to his trapped sister.
"WE NEED TO GO!" He yelled, turning and grabbing his swords from Azure's hands before he could react. He spun back around, and all sense of composure left him as the Deathstalker closed in, he was too late. "NO, RUBY! GOD DAMMIT WE-."
"BOSS!" Indigo said, raising his voice and grabbing his shoulder. Robin stopped and when he turned Indigo was pointing towards Ruby and shaking his head. "Look!"
Robin looked again, and almost screamed again as the Deathstalkers stinger came down to impale his little sister.
Only it didn't. A massive wall of ice shot up in front Ruby and caught the Deathstalkers stinger just before it could hit Ruby. The wall was so sturdy, the Deathstalker squirmed and couldn't get out.
Robin's mouth went dry. "W… Weiss!"
Weiss had been the one to save Ruby, much to Robin and he was sure Ruby's surprise as well. He kept his semblance active and watched as the two exchanged a few words. He had no idea what they were saying of course, but even before it happened in real time, he saw Weiss's shadow reach down and help Ruby to her feet… and seconds later it happened in real time. They both smiled, which made Robin hysteric with relief, before watching the two of them rush back towards the other.
Ruby rushed and hugged Yang, before his two sisters started speaking in front of the other first years. Robin fell back, his legs weak for a moment as he watched the scene. Ruby stood up in front of everyone, and started talking, pointing behind her, as the Nevermore soared overhead, and the Deathstalker finally snapped free of the ice. However, the minute they did, Ruby was ushering the rest of the first years towards the cliffside ruins of what Robin could only guess was an old city.
"Oh my god…" He muttered, his head pounding and for a minute he turned off his semblance as he fell back onto the grass of that plateau. "They're okay."
"Of course, they are, they are your sisters, Taiyang's kids," Niko said, appearing over him and offering him a hand, which Robin took. After he stood, Niko smiled and put a hand on his shoulder. "I know you're worried Robin, and you're probably gonna worry a lot about them this year."
"That's an understatement…" Robin muttered as he rubbed his eyes.
"Yeah… but they'll never get better and learn to take care of themselves if we help them at every turn," Azure said from his other side. "We'll be there to help teach them when we can, and yes we will help them… but we'll need to trust them if they're going to get stronger."
Robin chewed at the inside of his lip. "You sound like my dad…"
Niko laughed. "Ha, well Tai's normally right about most things! Besides, Ruby and Yang aren't like regular first years, Baby Belladonna ain't either, and did you see the Ice Queen just now? I bet they're gonna wipe the floor with those grimm no problem."
"I'm sure they can…" Robin said, shaking his head. "I just hate being asked to not do anything for them."
"You're not, not doing anything Robin," Azure said, a small smirk coming to his face. "You're letting them get better and show what they can do. In a way… doing nothing for them, is doing something."
Niko scoffed. "Ha, when did you get so damn wise Az?"
Azure shrugged but smiled. "I've always been this way, you just never notice."
Niko feigned offense. "My dear friend Azure, are you insinuating I am not wise?"
"You argued with Zwei over tennis balls all summer Niko," Robin added in.
"My point is proven," Azure said.
"Hey, Zwei is devious!" Niko said, crossing his arms indignantly. "He knows what he's doing too, he hides the balls in-."
"Guys," Indigo said, cutting him off and waving for them to follow. "You'll wanna see this."
"Did something happen?!" Robin said, rushing over to the cliff again with his teammates.
Indigo nodded. "Look."
With the rest of his team, Robin turned on his semblance, his eyes revealing the battle to him. He almost yelled but stopped himself when he realized… that his sister had probably picked the best battlefield for the fight. He had thought earlier that anyone who got trapped in the dense ruins with dozens of fallen structures and narrow bridges would be trapped.
But when you were fighting two giant grimm, one which was on the ground that couldn't cross the small bridge, and another which flew which would have a hard time seeing them in such a crowded area… I was perfect.
"HA, Ruby you genius!" Niko compliment looking through his binoculars, Iggly flying overhead.
Robin looked and saw Ruby, Yang, Blake and Weiss on one side of the bridge, near the massive cliff and larger cluster of old buildings, the Nevermore flying overhead. On the other side was Pyrrha, Jaune and two others.
"Az, who are those two with Pyrrha and Jaune again?" Robin asked, as he saw them all spring into action against the death stalker.
Az looked on with him. "Nora Valkyrie and Lie Ren. Scored pretty high on the exams, I saw the Ren kid take on a Serpent earlier, and the girl took down a giant Ursa with one hit."
"She seems like she could…" Robin complimented as the four rushed into action.
It was a great strategy and he saw… Jaune of all people calling it out. Pyrrha and Jaune rushed in with shield to deflect the pincers, letting Ren come in with his rapid fire machine pistols, and distract the tails. His breath halted when the boy was knocked aside, but his Aura stayed intact. Jaune shouted out another order to Pyrrha, who tossed up her shield like a javelin, and it cut across the Deathstalkers pincer.
Next Jaune yelled to Nora behind him, and after a running started and help up into the air from Pyrrha's shield, she was launched into the air, before coming down with a crushing hammer blow to the Deathstalkers main body.
And just like that, the grimm fell dead, the four first-years landed together unharmed.
Azure whistled appreciatively. "Wow, not bad at all, looked better than we did, those four."
"You could say that again," Robin said in agreement, his stomach still wrenching. "Still…"
"Ha, you think that was impressive, check out your sisters Robin!" Niko said, as Robin spun to see his sister and her new allies.
Robin's eyes widened. "Jeez Niko, you weren't lying about her."
Niko smirked. "Blake's gonna be one of the best! I told you she was fast."
Blake Belladonna spun and moved with her weapon transformed into a makeshift hook with perfect precision. She spun it on its rope and kept the Nevermore distracted, while he saw Ruby and Weiss from below firing blasts of dust and sniper shots at it.
Robin's breath caught in his throat. "Wait a minute, where's…. YANG!"
Yang leapt up from one of the pillars as the Nevermore got towards the massive cliff that scaled upwards. It looked like it would swallow her whole, but his sister caught the grimms mouth before it could close, she held it open with one hand and punched the shotgun shells from her fist into the grimms mouth, screaming with each punch and most bizarre of all, looking like she was having an amazing time doing so.
"That's Yang for you," Azure commented with a smile. "Delightfully crazy, and smart at the same time."
Robin grew up with her, he knew that was the truth… but it was Ruby who he saw yelling out orders from below.
Yang leapt out of the way and the Nevermore crashed down at the base of the cliff, and then a flash of ice, bright blue glyphs appeared on the ground. Weiss skated through and with more grace then he thought possible from anyone, deflected and spun around the quills that shot her way as the Nevermore tried to get airborne again.
"Good job Weiss," Indigo said next to him, the hints of a smile on his face.
Indigo's praise and Robin's hunch about Weiss had been right, she was good, really good. She leapt up towards the Nevermore and deflected a wing, before falling and slamming her rapier into the ground. A wall of ice appeared and caught the Nevermore by its bottom legs before it could take off, and when it tried to swing at her she leapt back and landed on her feet again, summoning glyphs to get her back towards Ruby who waited taking pot shots with Crescent Rose.
"HA, Robin your sisters a genius!" Niko said, as Robin saw exactly what Ruby had thought up.
Blake had leapt up towards a pillar and tossed her weapon across the air, and Robin saw Yang jump up to catch it. She spun around a pillar across from Blake, and just like that, as Weiss and Ruby got into position, they had made a makeshift slingshot.
"Ruby… ha, you genius," Robin said under his breath, managing to smile. "When did you go and grow up so much on me? Mom would be… really happy."
Ruby leapt up and shot Crescent Rose. She landed on the bladed side on the slingshot just as Weiss summoned a glyph to hold her in place, taking aim at the Nevermore who was still squirming to get free. He saw Ruby and Weiss say something to each other, Weiss got annoyed at something she said, before a small smile appeared again, and she took aim… and let Ruby fly.
He could hear Ruby yelling as she shot Crescent Rose and flew through the air, and just as the Nevermore had broken free of the ice, Crescent Rose pinned it with its blade against the cliff, and a second later, Robin saw Weiss's glyphs appear up the mountainside. With a yell, Ruby took off in a run, shooting Crescent Rose to give her a boost, and that combined with Weiss's glyphs helping her along she ran up the side of the cliff, dragging the Nevermore with her, and when she got to the top she jumped.
And like that, the grimms head flew off. He saw Ruby land with Crescent Rose over her shoulder….and he swore she looked over in their direction.
His suspicions were confirmed when she waved like a goofball a second later.
Robin was speechless, but his teammates had no problem finding words.
"HAHAHA THAT WAS AWESOME!" Niko yelled, jumping and grabbing Robin's shoulders. "Did you see that?!"
"Yes, we're looking at it," Indigo said, but Robin saw him smile. "That was cool."
"Yeah… you bet it was," Azure said, coming up next to Robin with a smile. "It looks like we might have some competition after all, huh Robin?"
Robin chuckled, as he watched Ruby use her semblance to get back down the cliff, into the waiting arms of Yang's hug, and her other new allies.
Ruby, Yang… it looks like you can take care of yourselves after all. Doesn't mean I won't be there… but I know you're going to be great. I got them… mom, I'll keep an eye on them still, just like you asked.
"It looks like it," Robin said, turning and gesturing for his team to follow. "Come on, let's get back, we have some posters to make before the team announcements."
XxxxxxxxxxxxxxX
"Next, Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long," Professor Ozpin announced, as with clacking-regular knees- Ruby walked up onto the stage, the excitement from what happened still coursing through her body.
"WOHOOOO YEAH! THOSE ARE MY SISTERS!" Robin's loud voice yelled over all of the applause, clearly hear above everything else. Ruby cringed, but inwardly smiled, even Professor Ozpin stopped in front of them to smile himself.
"YAHOOOO LETS GO BLAKE!" Niko's voice followed soon after, and a next to Weiss, Ruby saw Blake cringe, but smile in the end.
She looked over and sure enough, in the front rows, were his brother and his team. And this time, they didn't just have signs for her and Yang, Robin held one for her, Azure one for Yang-who waved eagerly at their brother and his friends. Niko had one for Blake, which Blake seemed to be trying to decide if she wanted to smile about or not, and to her largest shock, Indigo had one with Weiss's name on it. He wasn't loud like the others, but he held it up, and Ruby swore she saw Weiss smiling.
"THAT'S MY SISTER, THAT'S HER TEAM! FIRST YEARS WATCH OUT!" Robin shouted, which made Ruby laugh, before Professor Ozpin cleared his throat and finally went on.
"You four retrieved the white knight pieces," The old teacher went on, smiling at the four of them, as Ruby watched the acronym for her new team form on the screen above him. "From now on you shall work together as… Team RWBY, led by… Ruby Rose."
"OH YEAH! THAT'S RIGHT PEOPLE THAT IS MY LITTLE SISTER! YEAH RUBY!" Robin exclaimed, even more excited then he was before.
"LETS GO TEAM RWBY!" Niko joined in, jumped next to Robin with Blake's poster in hand.
The two of them were the loud ones, but Ruby even saw Indigo and Azure smiling too…. She still couldn't believe it, that had actually just happened to her.
"Are they… always like this?" Weiss asked from next to her, a small smile on her face as they all looked at the clapping students, but more closely, the celebrating team RAIN.
"Niko is," Blake said, trying to hide her smile. "I know that for certain."
Yang laughed and shook her head. "Oh yeah, they are. This is actually pretty tame compared to how they normally are."
Yang hugged her, and Ruby struggled in her grip… but eventually gave in. As her new teammates waved, her sister hugged her, she looked and saw her brother, who managed to stop jumping and whooping for a minute to meet her eyes. He had that same goofy smile on her face and shot a thumbs up to her.
That made the slightest bit of nerves Ruby still had dissipate. She looked at her team, Yang, Blake… and even Weiss. She had saved Ruby in the forest… said she would work together with her, and the best part? She hadn't mentioned Robin even once, which let Ruby know… that she must have really meant it. Maybe her brother had been right, maybe she did have a way with people, at least she hoped she did.
She looked at Robin again who was celebrating with Niko, as the two held up the signs they made, and tried to get Azure and Indigo to cheer with them.
This… is going to be everything I imagined, she thought.
"Well," Professor Ozpin said, coming up next to them, a smile on his face. "Things are certainly shaping up to be an interesting year."
Ruby agreed with him.
