D The Rise of Team's RAIN & RWBY

Volume 1, Episode 5: Rise of Team RAIN

One Year Ago

"Ha, it's like one giant sleepover!" Niko said, as Robin and he looked out over the collection of first year students who had gathered in the hall the day before initiation. "To think, our two future teammates are right here in this room."

Robin chuckled as he looked down at the letter he was beginning to write for Ruby and Yang. "You seem really confident we'll be on the same team already."

"Of course, we will Robin my friend!" Niko said, falling back onto the pillows next to him. He poked his face next to Robin's to look at what he was writing. "What you got here?"

Robin sighed. "Just a letter back to my sisters on Patch. The one is only fourteen, a few years away from Beacon, but my one sister will be here next year."

"Oh sweet… is she cute?" Niko asked, earning him a hefty elbow to the side of his gut.

"Ow… okay, so I'm guessing the answer is yes then," Niko said, this time earning him an eye roll.

The day had gone by quick, from Professor Ozpin's brief speech, and the tour of the school. It was dark now, and tomorrow was their initiation. Robin felt a bit naked without Caliburn and Avalon, but they'd been secured in his new locker. Niko was already talking about how the two of them would find each other during initiation, and Robin was sure they would, but still, it didn't take away from the nerves he felt looking out over the sea of new students.

In one corner he spotted the girl Coco that he had attempted to talk too, with at least six bags strewn out around her. A girl faunus with rabbit ears was chatting with her, and when Robin had tried to wave earlier, all he had gotten was an odd look back, as if she was still trying to digest the fact he was wearing a tattered cape.

Niko of course had drawn them glares from a few people, being as loud as he was, including ones from the large bully that they'd taken care of out on the green.

Naturally, Niko didn't mind, he winked at the group of them which only made them scowl more, but Niko had a good laugh about it.

Robin rolled his eyes. "You know, it may not be a good idea to antagonize people already."

Niko laughed and leaned back on his sleeping bag. "Ha, would you rather me duck my head down here in the corner? Sorry Robin, we don't all have cute sisters to write too."

"Niko…" He said, narrowing his eyes, which only made Niko laugh again.

"Ha, okay, okay that's the last time I promise!" He said, a fond smile coming to his face. "You're lucky you know. I… wish I still had my sister back at home now, or my cousin."

Robin looked down at him, putting down his pen. "You… have a sister? You didn't mention it yet."

Niko shrugged. "Well, technically she isn't my sister. We're not blood related but… well I grew up with her, spent a lot of my time with her. Sort of like how you told me you were adopted and just never really noticed it."

A smile came to Robin's face. "Aw, Niko look at that, you can be sentimental."

Niko smacked him with a pillow, and they laughed. "Ha, I'm not all jokes you know; I have a sensitive side the ladies love. But… you're right, I always just called her my sister, our dads were partners you could say, back on Menagerie."

"And where is she now? Is she younger then you?"

"Only by a year," He said, the smile slipping from his face. "I… really don't know where she is now."

Robin's chest stung. "Aren't you worried?"

Niko scoffed but smiled. "Of course, I'm worried… but I know how tough she is. I also know the person she really is deep down; she'll be back, I know it!"

Robin nodded and smiled… sometimes he really liked to sit and appreciate how lucky he had it. Despite what happened to his mom, he still had his Dad, Uncle, Ruby and Yang. He wanted to know more, but he also didn't want to make Niko talk more about what was clearly a sensitive topic.

However, Niko as Robin was coming to realize, was quick to change his mood.

"Ha, she's good but my cousin Tiese? She's a certified badass! A pro huntress," Niko said, a proud look on his face. "She just graduated from Shade Academy in Vacuo!"

Robin laughed; he was really beginning to love Niko's constant uplifting attitude. It was something he wished he had and knew he should appreciate.

"Ha, you don't hear a lot about Shade, but some great huntsmen come from there," Robin said, going and digging into his bag. "My mom, dad and uncle have all graduated from Beacon. My dad's a professor at Signal where I went, and my uncle's still active now as a huntsman."

"You come from good stock then!" Niko said, getting up to his feet and stretching. "Looks like you and me are going to have to carry on our family traditions then Robin my friend!"

"You bet," Robin said, pulling out the bag of cookies he'd made. "Ever since I was little, this is all I've wanted to do… my mom told me huntsman were heroes."

"She made you this dashing thing, right?" Niko asked, pulling at Robin's cape. "You know, we're heroes and all yeah, but don't you think the cape it a little too on the nose?"

He rolled his eyes but smiled, making Niko laugh. "Yeah, I've been told… she gave this to me before she went on her last mission, I begged for one like hers. She wore white ones, but she said she wanted me to stand out on my own."

"And… it seems she taught you to bake as well," Niko said, rubbing his hands together as he looked at the bag of cookies in Robin's hands. "Let's dig in, I'm starving, you say you can bake well, I'll be the judge of-."

"Hello."

"GAHHHHHHHH!" He and Niko both yelled as the shadow behind them rippled and they both proceeded to tumble onto their sleeping bags.

"Gonna eat all those?" The voice said again, which made Robin and Niko jump again.

Robin recovered from his heart attack with Niko to look up and see another boy now sitting exactly in the middle of where he and Niko had been sitting and talking. They had set up right near the wall, and the new boy with purple hair had seemingly melted out from the wall.

He didn't seem to think anything was wrong, he just held up the bag of cookies and pointed to them again.

"Can I?" He asked again.

Robin blinked and slowly nodded. "Um… sure?"

"Thanks," The boy said, opening the bag and pulling out a cookie, before biting into it. "They're good."

"Um… thank you?" Robin said, trying to stop his heart from exploding as he stood. "Who… who exactly are you?"

"Indigo," The boy said, chewing and swallowing. "Really good."

Robin didn't know what to say next. "Well… thanks. Um… are you a first year?"

"Yup," Indigo said, wiping his hands on his dark purple hoodie.

"Oh… cool," Robin said, as Indigo didn't say anything, only munching on another cookie. Finally, after several seconds of awkward silence Robin shook his head. "Was… that your semblance you used?"

"Yup," Indigo said, not looking up from the cookie as he neatly closed the bag with the rest and put them back next to Robin's bag. "Shadows."

Robin's eyes widened, if there was one thing he liked talking about, it was semblances.

"So… you can manipulate shadows?" Robin said, managing to laugh. "Ha, that's awesome!"

Indigo stopped mid bite and looked up at him. "It… is?"

"Totally!" Robin said with another laugh. "That's so versatile, I can't imagine how powerful it must be at night! You can probably move undetected, set traps, phase out of walls apparently. I'm a little jealous."

"Oh…" Indigo said, looking confused before Robin saw the slightest smile. "Thanks…"

Robin nodded again. "Of course. I'm Robin, and that faunus you saw was Niko-."

"You freak!" Niko yelled, finally coming back to their spot after fixing his hair and looking absolutely flustered. "What's your problem, you almost gave us a heart attack!"

Indigo shrugged. "Sorry."

"Sorry?!" Niko said with Robin grabbing his shoulder. "Why couldn't you have just walked up to us like a normal person!"

Again, Indigo shrugged. "This was faster."

"Niko calm down," Robin told him, pulling his friend to the floor with him. "He just wanted some cookies."

Niko rolled his eyes. "He didn't have to scare us like that for them!"

"Sorry, again," Indigo said warily, wiping his mouth on his hoodie.

Niko turned and glared at the purple haired boy. "You're lucky Robin told me not to antagonize anyone else, and in the short time I've known him, I learned he's usually right."

Robin scoffed. "Don't say that, it's bad luck."

Niko rolled his eyes and managed to smirk. "Well, you can literally see the future, so you're very rarely wrong."

"Only a few seconds into the future Niko," Robin reminded him. "I can't see any further than that."

"You see the future?" Indigo said, making Robin and Niko both turn to him. The purple haired boy smiled and nodded. "Cool."

Robin managed a smile and looked at Niko, who rolled his eyes. Finally, the wolf faunus sighed and leaned back on his pillow. "Fine, sorry for snapping, what's your name again purple guy?"

"Indigo," Indigo said.

Niko rolled his eyes. "Just try not to make a habit of melting out of the walls alright. Nice to meet you then Indigo, I'm Niko."

Robin smiled when he saw Indigo smile… was it really that easy? He was going to have a great time telling Ruby and Yang how he nearly blew up his first friend, and his second literally fell out of the wall.

"Nice," indigo said, standing up. "See you."

Robin stopped him. "Hold up, don't you want to stay? Are you with anyone-."

"Hey, would you three mind shutting your mouths," A new voice said behind them, and Robin turned with Indigo and Niko both to see a new boy glaring at them.

Robin saw the boy was very blue at first, a long blue trench coat, with what looked like a giant fork at his belt. He had a tired and annoyed look on his face.

Great, I've annoyed someone else, this is the exact opposite of what I wanted, Robin worried.

"Sorry," Robin said quickly, standing back up and putting out a hand. "I'm Robin! What's your-."

"I honestly don't care what your name is," The boy said, rubbing his temples, before his dark blue eyes glared at him. "I've had a long trip here, and I'm trying to get some sleep, so shut your-."

"Should've stayed in Mistral then," Niko said, stepping up next to Robin, his arms crossed as he smiled at the boy. "Or Vaccuo, you don't strike me as being from Atlas. Either way, if you're going to whine about the trip, might as well have stayed there."

"Ha… ignore Niko!" Robin said, not wanting the situation to get out of hand. "He's a jokster, likes to get under-."

And then things proceeded to get out of hand.

"And you should have stayed on Menagerie," The boy said, stepping up to Niko. "I've been listening to you all night, your voice carries throughout the whole damn hall!"

"My father always did say I loved being the center of attention," Niko noted.

The boy scoffed. "Let's see where that gets you in a forest full of grimm. With an attitude like that, you'll be first to get it."

"Grimm don't stand a chance," Niko said with a flex of his arm. "Besides, Robin over here can see the future, we're safe as a safe!"

"Niko… I told you it doesn't work like that," Robin muttered, and then jumped when he realized Indigo was munching the rest of the cookies next to him.

The blue-haired boy shook his head in disgust. "I've met people like you, known them, they think this is all fun and games. But in reality, we're responsible for life and death on this continent, and people like you are the reason people die. This isn't a game!"

Robin heart leapt to his chest. "Look we know that, arguing isn't doing any good! What's your name, let's start over, I'm Robin!"

"Indigo," Indigo said, wiping crumbs from his mouth.

The blue-hair boy rolled his eyes. "Azure Acheron, from Mistral."

"HA! I was right!" Niko said, seemingly unaffected by Azure's words. He crossed his arms, his wolf ears sticking up. "Tell me Azure, did you just recently start being a stick in the mud, or is it a career you've been working on for the past few years?"

"Niko!" Robin pleaded with him, seeing Azure's nostrils flare.

Robin flared on his semblance, waiting for something crazy to happen, but he didn't see any shadow coming from Azure, just a very powerful blue aura. It flared around him for a minute but subsided after a few seconds. The blue haired boy scoffed and shook his head in disgust.

"Unbelievable," He said, turning his back to them. "Blair was right… should have gone to Haven."

And with that, Azure walked away back towards the sea of students. Robin sighed as he did, the whole 'making friends' thing hadn't been going nearly as well now as it had his first few minutes after arriving at Beacon. He turned and saw Niko, for a slight moment, look annoyed and slightly hurt, but as Robin was figuring out was normally the case, the faunus's smile returned.

"Gee, wonder what crawled up his butt and died," Niko said, his hands behind his head, before yawning. "I sure hope not everyone takes themselves that seriously."

Robin rolled his eyes. "You didn't have to be so rude you know."

Niko rolled his eyes back at Robin. "And you need to learn not to let people walk all over you Robin. He was rude to us first, learn to laugh it off or stand up for yourself."

Robin's stomach churned; he was never much for confrontation despite how skilled he knew he was. It was something his Uncle Qrow had talked to him about before coming to Beacon. Show people your skill, don't be afraid too. Still, he remembered how his mother never fought unless she absolutely had too.

He guessed it was a matter of finding a balance. Not letting people walk over him like Niko said, and also making sure he kept to his values.

He sighed and shook his head. "You may be right… but still, I hate the idea people don't like me."

Niko slapped a hand on Robin's shoulder. "I live with it everyday Robin my friend! Trust me, it gets easier after a while."

"He's right."

"GAHHHHH!" Robin and Niko both yelled, forgetting Indigo was there again, and the purple haired boy again simply looked at them both trip over their belongings.

Robin groaned as he pulled one of his smelly socks off his face and looked at the ceiling.

Ruby, Yang… if you could see me now… you'd probably be laughing.

He'd have to turn things around, he'd be a brother they could be proud of, one strong enough to look after them like his mother had asked him before that last mission.

Present Day.

"SO! There we were… in the middle of the night!" Nora said from across them, Robin was learning that she-like Niko-had a flare for the dramatic.

Ren next to her rolled his eyes. "It was day."

Robin had surmised that Ren was to Nora what Robin was to Niko, both of them kept the other from completely going out of control.

He smiled as he listened to the story, sitting in between Ruby and Weiss. Ruby listened with bated breath while Weiss just filed her nails, seeming to-like Robin-understand the story was a bit exaggerated. Yang however, like Ruby was listening with great interest, while Blake was next to her reading one of the many books Robin had learned she enjoyed over the last few weeks. He hadn't spoken much to the girl Niko saw as a surrogate younger sister, but one thing they both loved was books.

She was so different from Niko, Robin thought it was a wonder how she hadn't smacked him at least once so far, but he assumed that like him, she got used to Niko's…Niko-ness. He also knew her secret of course, and felt a bit guilty about it. Still, Niko had talked about his 'sister' a few times the previous year, so it didn't take Robin much to realize she was a faunus.

The bow was also as on the nose as his cape, he wondered how nobody had seen through it. He had even seen the bow twitch a few times.

"We were surrounded by… Ursi!" Nora went on, standing up for dramatic effect.

"They were beowolves," Ren corrected.

"Dozens of them!" Nora yelled.

"Two of them," Ren said.

Nora went on with her story, when Robin noticed Ruby not paying attention to the story anymore. No, she was looking over at Jaune and Pyrrha across from her. Robin looked over at the despondent looking blonde boy as well. He had been able to peg from early on that… Jaune was a bit lacking combat wise, it didn't take much to see that. Earlier before lunch, Robin and his team had stopped by during a free period to watch the combat class Professor Goodwich ran.

Jaune had been no match for Cardin Winchester, who was reminding Robin more and more of that large bully who had harassed Niko the first day of school last year. Robin looked at the blonde-boy aimlessly moving his fork around his plate, looking off into the distance. He'd had that look on his face plenty of times himself the previous year, he knew it all too well.

"Jaune… are you okay?" Pyrrha finally asked him, after a Nora finished her story about selling Ursa skin rugs.

Jaune jumped and looked over at them all. "Huh? Oh! Yeah… why do you ask?"

Ruby looked up at Robin, before looking over at Jaune. "Well, it's just you seem a little… not okay."

"She's right Jaune," Robin added, downing a cup of milk he had in front of him. "Wanna tell us what's on your mind?"

Jaune laughed nervously. "Guys I'm fine! Ha… seriously! Look!"

He gave a fake smile and thumbs up for extra effect, especially not since his entire team and team RWBY were looking at him. Robin sighed, he saw all the signs of exhaustion and nervousness in Jaune's eyes, something deeper was wrong, and Robin wanted to figure it out.

Over the previous few weeks after settling into their schedules, he'd done all he can to try and be with team RWBY and team JNPR as much as he could, as had the rest of his team, but even he would admit they were stretching themselves a bit thin. Ever since they had saved Gil and fought off Torchwick in Vale a few nights into the year, it had been quiet in Vale, but loud back in Beacon. He had no idea that being coined 'the best team at Beacon', would give them so much more than just schoolwork. Teachers asked them to help with demonstrations in classes, they had to report to Ozpin with their findings in addition to keeping up with their own work.

Finally, Robin had brought it up to Ozpin and starting that day, other than their normal classes the headmaster had told Robin his team had the week off to recuperate. They wouldn't have to help any teachers with lesson demonstrations or go scout this week. They were free to just be students.

Robin and his teammates already knew what they'd do with their first day, and he was excited, but he knew one other thing they'd do, was help out his sister's team and team JNPR as well. That's what friends were for.

"Fake smiles don't work on me Jaune, I can see them a mile away," Robin said, tossing the last chip he had into his mouth and gesturing to his sisters. "Just like I can tell when Ruby or Yang start fake crying to get me to do their homework."

"I do not do that!" Ruby said right away, getting red faced.

Yang shrugged. "I do, and he's lying, he does so fall for it."

Robin rolled his eyes, but the group of friends laughed, including Weiss, who had been very… un-Weiss like around him the last few days. She smiled from next to him before they all turned their attention back to Jaune, and Robin wondered what he could have done. He asked Ruby, but she had no idea as well.

Maybe the answer was obvious, and he just couldn't see it.

"Jaune, Cardin has been picking on you since the first week of school," Pyrrha said to Jaune, drawing Robin back to the conversation.

Robin took the time to look over at Cardin Winchester as he heard some raucous laughter.

When he spotted the boy, his fists curled, Velvet…

He and his team were huddled around Velvet, making jokes while the poor faunus member of Team CFVY was trying to ignore them. Robin had no idea where Coco was at the moment, but he knew that if she were there, Cardin would be on the receiving end of her terrifying purse. It wouldn't be pretty.

But Coco wasn't here, so Robin kept an eye on the situation, Velvet was one of his friends after all.

Jaune nervously waved the comment off. "Ha, Cardin Winchester? Come on he just likes to mess around! Practical jokes!"

"He's a bully," Ruby said, and Robin found himself proud of her. It had only been a few weeks, almost a month so far, but he could already see her growing more confident by the day.

He nodded with her, meeting Jaune's eyes. "She's right Jaune, he's a bully, and he needs to be taught a lesson, you can't let people walk over you, even if you get beat. Niko actually taught me that."

That got a smile and nod out of Pyrrha his way. Robin hadn't had a chance to talk to the prodigy that was Pyrrha Nikos one on one yet, but he knew she was a righteous person, one who Robin was glad Ruby befriended, along with the rest of Team JNPR. He planned on letting them train with his team as well in the future.

Jaune sighed, looking at Robin across the table. "Easy for you to say… you're Robin Rose."

Robin shook his head, noticing the whole group was looking now. "Well, I wasn't always Robin Rose, as you know it… I'm still not anything special. But I know bullies like him, they'll keep at it until you do something."

"Oh please, come on!" Jaune said, looking at all of his teammates and friends. "Name one time he's bullied me!"

Everyone went quiet and looked at Jaune. It was as if we were all seeing the same montage of the times Cardin really had picked on Jaune.

Robin finally broke the silence. "Jaune, if Az hadn't felt where your locker landed, it would've taken us hours to find you."

"I… didn't even land that far from the school…." Jaune tried to defend himself.

Robin shook his head in frustration. One thing that annoyed him more than anything were bullies like Cardin. He wished his teammates would hurry up before he did something rash. It was safer if he did rash things with them around.

Now, he was awfully close to throttling Cardin himself as he watched the boy continue to tease Velvet with his team.

Or worse… I'll call Coco, have her settle this, Robin thought, shuddering at the idea. She'd do even worse than he would.

"Jaune, if you ever need help you know you can just ask!" Pyrrha said with desperation.

Robin almost smiled. Pyrrha was a good teammate, if he was as good as she was, or as good as Ruby was last year at the start of the year, his team would be even further along.

"OH! I know!" Nora said, jumping up onto the bench. "We can break his legs!"

Robin couldn't hold back the laugh; he even saw Ruby and Weiss smile next to him.

"Guys really, it's fine!" Jaune said, getting up from his seat. "Besides, it's not like he's a jerk to me, he's a jerk to everyone."

"That doesn't excuse it Jaune!" Ruby said from next to me.

Robin nodded. "You said it little red, someone needs to-."

"OW! Stop, that hurts!"

Robin's head spun around, and he shot up from his seat. Loud laughter from Cardin and his team followed, and when Robin finally saw what was happening, he was out from his seat in a flash.

Cardin had Velvet's long rabbit ears in his hand, yanking down on them as she tried to leave.

"Ow… please stop! That's hurting!" Velvet said, on the verge of tears it seemed.

Cardin only laughed, looking at his team, her ear still in his had. "Ha, look I told you they were real!"

"Ha, what a freak!" One of them said, and Robin finally had seen enough.

"That's it!" He said, going to turn and rush over towards his friend.

"Robin!" Ruby said from next to him. "What are you going to do?"

"Put a stop to this…" Robin said, moving past Jaune. "I can't stand-."

"Robin," A voice said, and he turned to see it was Blake shaking her head at him. "I don't think you're going to have too."

Robin heard why he didn't have too before Blake could go on, and when he turned and saw it, he smirked and sat back down.

"He's got this," Robin said, as everyone looked at Cardin now.

"Oww…. Get off!" Velvet pleaded, only for Cardin to yank on her ears again.

The larger boy laughed. "Ha, how do walk around with these things you freak-."

"Oh, it's really easy Cardin," Niko said, coming up behind Cardin and slapping a hand hard on the much larger boy's shoulder. "I can give you an in-depth lesson on faunus anatomy if you'd like. You're have to use all the power of that tiny brain of yours though, some of the stuff is pretty complicated!"

Cardin whirled around, grabbing the hand. "Who do you think you…you!"

"Me!"

"Niko…" Velvet said, a hint of relief in her voice.

Robin stood up quietly and whispered to the table. "Better go back him up, sometimes he doesn't have a filter as you all know."

They all nodded. They really did completely understand.

"Cardin… we shouldn't mess with this guy! He's a member of Team RAIN!" One of Cardin's teammates said, as the three of them plus Cardin started backing up.

Niko had a devil like smirk on his face. Robin wondered what had kept him from coming to the dining hall sooner, but it didn't matter now. He wore his normal white hoodie, grey jeans and large smile, his wolf tail stuck upwards with his ears.

He may have smiled, but Robin knew him well enough to see the look of pure, seething anger deep in his eyes.

Niko walked past Velvet and looked down at her. "You okay V?"

Velvet gave a small nod, a forlorn look on his face. "Yeah… thanks Niko."

He smiled and nodded before turning back to Cardin. "Ha… Cardin, Cardin, Cardin, if you wanted to know if faunus's ears are real or not, you could've just asked me!"

Cardin's fist clenched, as to his credit he stopped back up with his team. "You think you're tough freak just because you piggyback off Robin Rose?! You don't look it, so stop acting like it-."

Niko didn't let him finish, he only put his head down, showing Cardin his ears. "Go on! Aren't you curious as to if my ears are real?"

Cardin froze. "Wh…what?!"

"Go ahead!" Niko said, twitching his ears. "Give them a pull! Or do you not pick on all faunus, and just on defenseless girls? Not like V couldn't have walloped you, she'd just nicer then I am. Go on, pull it Cardin."

"You're crazy, you know that!" Cardin said, backing up, but Robin was there.

He turned with his team and his eyes widened seeing Robin. Robin didn't say anything, because Niko laughed and got his attention again.

"So, I was right, you are just a coward," Niko said with a spiteful tone. He scoffed and gestured for Robin to let him go. "Get out of here. If you ever wanna pull a faunus's ears again, pull mine. Just know, whatever you do to me, I'll do right back."

Robin stopped right behind Cardin and his team, they turned to try and leave, but when they saw Robin they froze.

"Well?" Robin said, his anger not as seething anymore. "Are you gonna take him up on his offer?"

Cardin turned back and forth, Robin saw him look towards Ruby, Jaune and the rest of his friends, to which he almost yanked his head back around. He hated acting like this, the Robin of a year ago may have simply let Cardin get away with what he did, but a lot changed in 365 days.

Cardin's fist clenched and he turned to Niko. "No… I'll pass on that."

"A shame, I was kinda hoping you did," Niko said, his normal smile coming back as he waved at Cardin. "Now run along like a good boy, go on!"

Cardin seethed with his team, and after a nod from Niko, Robin let them leave. Robin turned to watch them, and after they had exited the cafeteria, he saw the members of Team RWBY and Team JNPR looking up with admiration in their eyes. It suddenly made Robin nervous, but thankfully a dejected sigh from Jaune led the rest of Team JNPR to following the blonde team-leader from the hall. He noticed Pyrrha give him a thankful nod, which he returned, before the team was out of the cafeteria.

"Thanks again Niko… sorry you have to keep doing that," Robin heard Velvet say, and he turned to see his friend smiling ear to ear at his fellow faunus.

"Ha, no problem V," He said, turning to Robin with a wink. "Robin, I'm gonna go for a walk with V here, I'll catch up with you at our training session later!"

"Aren't you hungry?" Robin said, smiling at how obviously thrilled Velvet looked at the idea.

Niko scoffed. "Ha, even Indigo hasn't figured out the other two locks we got on my stash now, I'm all full no worries."

"Alright, have fun then you two," He said, waving to Velvet before Niko whisked his fellow faunus away from the cafeteria.

Robin smiled, first it was Niko with Velvet, he knew Azure had a crush on Yang, next thing he knew, Indigo was going to come home with a new girl or guy. If not for the fact Coco scared him at times, he would have been with her as well.

Still, he wasn't sure how to determine those feelings or not. He shrugged it off, who cares really, when I have feelings for someone, I'm sure I'll know. Dad always said sometimes the person we're meant for is right in front of us.

A sneeze turned Robin back to the table with Team RWBY.

"Bless you!" Ruby said, as Weiss groaned and wiped her nose with a napkin.

"Thanks…" The heiress said, seeming confused. "That's odd, I don't really feel like I have a cold."

"Ha, maybe someone was thinking about or referring to you," Yang suggested. "They say you sneeze when someone does."

"I doubt it," Weiss responded with a sigh, putting away her nail filer just as Robin got back to the table, the heiress finally managed to look at him with a smile, which was a pleasant surprise for Robin. He had thought for the last week or, so she was trying to avoid him.

"That was awesome Robin!" Yang said with a laugh. "Ha, you and Niko showed that jerk what's what! I can't believe they'd treat someone like that…"

"They're not the only ones…" Blake muttered from next to her, and Robin bit his lip.

He wouldn't disclose Blake's secret of course. It wasn't his to tell, and he wasn't even sure if she knew that he knew.

"Yeah… it must be heard being a faunus," Yang said with a shake of her head.

Ruby nodded and stood. "Well, like Robin always says, treat everyone how you'd want to be treated."

"Very good little red!" Robin said, looking at Team RWBY with a pumped fist. "Alright Team RWBY prepare yourself! Because after our lunch and last class of the day, you'll be coming with me and the rest of Team RAIN!"

"Huh?" Weiss said with a confused look. "Go with you where?"

"Weiss-sickle is right, what are you talking about?" Yang asked him. "And where are Az and Indigo?"

Robin chuckled. "Ha, Az has this bad habit of trying to cram all his homework into one day at the end of the week, so he's neck deep in it now. And Indigo is taking one of his three daily naps."

Weiss nodded. "He told me it used to be six when we were younger."

"And it was four last year, so he's improving," Robin noted, getting a laugh from all of them, but once they all looked back at him, his excitement only rose, he met Ruby's eyes and his younger sisters widened, as she jumped up and down.

"Gahhhh yes! Is it finally time?!" She squealed.

Robin laughed. "Haha, you bet little red! Sisters, friends, members of Team RWBY, we finally have the time, later today is going to be the first Team RWBY Team RAIN cross training session!"

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

"Okay Ice Queen," Niko said across from her. "The key to summoning is all about perfect visualization!"

"I know that…" Robin heard Weiss say from across the wolf faunus. He could see she seemed either intimidated, annoyed, or weirded out by how much energy Niko had.

Niko chuckled across from her and pulled out his staff. He smiled, spun it a few times in his hand and slammed one end into the ground and looked up at Weiss.

"Alright then…" He said, the grey aura glowing around him as a massive form took shape behind him. Thankfully, the training ground/dueling arena was large enough. "Summon something up to help you with this!"

"I… I couldn't… UGH!" Weiss said, narrowing her eyes, as her own aura flared. She spun the revolver on Myrtenaster and stabbed it into a ground, a bright blue glyph appearing on the ground.

"Come on Weiss…" Robin said to himself as he waited for Blake to finish catching her breath, smiling as he saw a figure begin to take shape.

Niko had done what Robin instructed him to do, he and his massive growling bear waited for Weiss to attempt and finish her summon. Robin smiled as he saw Weiss's eyes narrowed in determination, pouring all of her aura in attempting the summon. He had tried to match each member of Team RAIN, up with the member of Team RWBY he thought would benefit most from. Of course, they'd all train with each member eventually, but he and his team for now, were helping his younger sisters team hone the skills they already had.

While Weiss focused, Robin rested Caliburn and Avalon on his shoulders. In the small arena next to him, he saw a flash of black, and red.

"You're slow," Indigo said, his hands stuck in his purple hoodie pockets. He glided on a sleek bit of shadows he summoned out in front of himself, a giant swirl of rose-petals finishing a fourth lap around the arena behind him.

"That's not fair!" Ruby complained, huffing and puffing behind him. "You don't even have to move your body!"

"Focus," Indigo said, flicking her ear to which she rolled her eyes annoyed. The purple-haired member of Team RAIN poked himself in the stomach and gestured towards his legs. "Focus your aura more to your core and legs. Helps you move faster."

Ruby looked at Indigo stunned for a moment. Robin chuckled; he was surprised the first time he heard Indigo say more than six words at a time as well.

"I… think that's the longest sentence I've ever heard from you Indigo," She said, finally catching her breath.

Indigo smirked. "Don't get used to it," he said, before yanking her red hood over her face and turning his back. "Let's go again."

Indigo started zipping off on his shadow. Ruby huffed, saw Robin watching and smiled, before bursting into rose petals and chasing after him.

That's going well, Robin thought as he smiled. Weiss thanks to her own admission and Indigo telling him, he knew in addition to her glyphs also had the ability to summon. All Schnee's did, their semblance was hereditary, just like how Azure's sister used to have the same semblance as he did, and Indigo's sister-who Robin still couldn't believe existed-had the same as him.

Seeing as Niko's semblance involved summoning, pairing them up made sense. Ruby and Indigo both relied on speed for theirs, so it made sense for them to pair up as well.

And as for Yang and Azure, it wasn't the first time the two had sparred.

"Stop going easy on me!" Yang yelled, as a flurry of fists made their way towards Azure.

On the last training field, Azure and Yang had been in the middle of an intense sparring match. Yang had been trained by their dad, and Robin didn't know anyone who could use their fists like Yang did, she was an expert at hand-to-hand combat.

Azure was no slouch himself, but he had one major advantage thanks to his semblance. His seismic senses not only allowed him to feel vibrations in the ground, but in the air as well, his sense of touch from his hands and feet were so in tune, he could feel vibrations from things moving through the air. So, while he may not have been as good as Yang in hand-to-hand fighting, his semblance pushed him way over the edge, since it let him feel out where attacks were coming from. It didn't let him see the future like Robin could, but it was pretty close, going all out, Azure had been one of the few to push Robin to his limits in sparring matches when they used semblances.

The blue-haired boy didn't like relying on his trident/sniper all the time, claiming his sister had used to fight hand to hand as well, but Robin knew with that trident in hand, not many could touch his teammate.

So, that also made him a perfect sparring partner for Yang, because if she could get a hit in on Azure, she would be able to hit just about anyone.

Az smirked, his blue trench coat whipping behind him, as in her frustration Yang tried to come in with a hard right hand from above, her eyes glowing red and her hair burning gold. Robin cringed, he had been on the receiving end of his sister semblance plenty of times himself, and he knew it wasn't pleasant.

However, Azure seemed ready for this. With a quick and nimble side-step he avoided the fist, grabbed her upper arm and stuck out his leg. With a quick flick of the wrist, and movement of his leg, Yang yelped and looked like she was going to fall. Azure however, caught her hand with his own and kept her from hitting the ground.

Yang breathed heavily, and looked up at Azure's calm, smiling face. After realizing what had happened, she groaned and Az helped her get upright.

"Looks like you win… again," His oldest sister said with a disappointed sigh. "I must really be slacking…"

Az chuckled and held his hands behind his head. "Don't say that, you got a few good shots in on me."

"Don't flatter me," Yang said with an eyeroll. "You know I hate that."

If it was one thing Robin knew his sister hated, it was indeed flattery.

Azure laughed again and shook his head. "I'm not, you know that. I'm also not going easy on you; I'm just fighting smarter then you."

Yang looked embarrassed and sighed. "You know, my dad always says I should fight smarter."

"Tai's smart like that," Az said, getting into a fighting stance and circling Yang as she stood. "Now, I know that my strikes can't match yours for pure power, so I had to adjust. There's more to fighting then just punching hard."

"You have been hanging out with my dad too much," Yang mumbled.

"Ha, maybe I have, but that's what my sister always used to say," Az said, stopping in front of her.

Yang looked hesitant. "You… told us your sister was a huntress right?"

Az nodded, a sad smile on his face. "Yeah… graduated from Haven. She always said, there's more to fighting then punches and kicks. You need to learn throws, trips, submissions, there's plenty of ways to take someone down, you just need to adjust your strategy accordingly, I'll show you."

Yang nodded with a thankful smile, and Robin watched as the two began a new match, much slower, with Az showing more throws and submissions to Yang, all while Ruby chased Indigo around the arena.

Robin sighed, he noticed how quickly Azure had pivoted from the topic of his sister. He tried not to focus on it. He'll talk about it when he's ready I hope… he thought.

"Come on, you're almost there, visualize and command!" Niko's voice cut into his thoughts, and Robin turned, seeing a new cloud of ice forming in front of Weiss.

"I AM!" Weiss complained, pressing her rapier harder into the ground, as out of the glyph, Robin finally saw what looked like an armored arm emerging.

His eyes widened, as Niko waited across from Weiss with his bear now licking itself clean next to him. Robin kept an eye on the heiress on one knee, rooting with everything he had for her… but in the end, after a sword began to form in the armored hand, Weiss yelled as a small blast of ice shot up from her glyph and she fell backwards.

Robin sighed, and Niko tsked.

"Nice try Ice Queen," Niko said, snapping and letting his bear disappear, and hoisting Grey-Wind to his shoulder. He scratched his face as Weiss got up. "That wasn't horrible, or good, perfectly mediocre I'd say. What's the deal, I thought all Schnee's could summon, are you just-."

"Niko…" Robin shouted over at him, narrowing his eyes. He knew Niko meant no ill will by the insult that was probably about to come, but he didn't think Weiss would see it that way.

Niko sighed and held up a hand. "Fine, fine, I'll keep my comedic gold to myself."

"Yes… ple…please do!" A gasping Weiss said as she got to her feet, spinning the revolver in her rapier again and narrowing her eyes at Niko. "We're doing this again!"

She turned around to see Robin smiling at her, which he wasn't afraid to admit he was indeed doing. He had seen she'd come a long way since that first week of classes, both in her attitude and sociability. She really did seem like she was trying her best to be a great teammate.

Robin just wished she'd stop looking away when he smiled at her.

She gave him a nervous smile back, before turning back to Niko to resume training.

"Robin, I'm ready now if you are, thanks for waiting," Blake's voice said behind him, and he turned with a smile to see the black-haired member of Team RWBY ready with her black sword in one hand, the sheath in the other.

Robin really couldn't help Blake out much with her semblance, leaving behind a shadow clone certainly was handy, and he already planned for to work with Indigo next after him.

However, the first thing Robin wanted to do for Blake, was improve her sword skills even further. She was already tremendously skilled with Gamble Shroud her weapon, but he knew a little training with him, and she'd be a top class huntress like the rest of Team RWBY.

And just like with Yang and Azure, if Blake trained with him while he used his semblance and stood her ground, she'd be ready for just about anyone.

"No problem," Robin said, moving to their small training field as Blake took her stance across from him, her sheath and sword at the ready. He lowered Caliburn and Avalon to a fighting ready stance. "Remember, don't just look at the swords, focus on my body too. If you can spare a look for your opponent's body now and then during a fight, there'll always be a tell for at least one move."

Blake breathed deeply and nodded. "Okay… I'm ready."

Robin could see a bit of apprehension in her stance, but he pushed it aside. He raised up Caliburn and Avalon again, one foot in front of the other, knees slightly bent, his dark red jacket attached to his cape drifted behind him. Blake got into her stance again, they both fought with two weapons in hand, which was another reason Robin wanted her to practice with him.

She nodded over to him, and he sucked in a breath, his aura flashing to life inside of him, before he blinked, and he could feel it rushing to his eyes. Around him, he saw the familiar shadows of what was to come, in his peripheral vision he saw the shadows of what Weiss, Niko, Az and Yang would do, and he could see Indigo and Ruby doing laps around the training ground before they were even there.

Blake of course he only saw one of, but as soon as she moved, her aura would flash for him and he'd see the shadow of future Blake, giving him the chance to predict her movements. It was awfully lucky his semblance worked on both people and grimm.

He smiled to himself, to this day his semblance amazed him.

"Okay, come on Blake!" He yelled out to her, and the match started.

Blake was incredibly fast with her attacks, but his Uncle Qrow was always just as quick. She used a lot of hit and run attacks, striking and dodging out of the way instead of parrying, that was fine for someone lean and quick like her, but it was necessary to have good parrying technique.

She came from the right with her sword, and he got Caliburn up to block it, but thanks to his semblance he saw it was a fake. He saw the shadow of her other arm below him, swinging her sheath towards his legs. He knocked the sword away, and moved his foot, he stepped on the sheath just before it could trip him up and Blake was trapped. She groaned in annoyance and tried to move it, but Robin flicked his foot and sent her tumbling back, before leaping backwards himself.

She breathed heavily and shook her head. "Niko was right, you really can see the future. I thought you both may have been exaggerating it, but it's true."

Robin rolled his eyes. "Niko does exaggerate. I can only see a few seconds ahead into the future, a shadow of what's to come."

"Still… with your sword skills, it's impossible to beat someone like you!" She said, seeming disappointed.

He shook his head and gestured for her to come again. "Nothing's impossible, I've been beat plenty of times even with my semblance on. Everyone has a weakness. You know my strength, now adjust and find my weakness!"

She nodded, seeming more determined now and came again. With both her sheath and sword she was alike a black whirlwind, and if Robin hadn't had his semblance on, he may have had a hard time keeping up, still, he was able to deflect her attacks with relative ease… until she changed tactics.

Blake lunged out with a thrust, and Robin sidestepped it, but instead of dodging away like he thought Blake would, she stood her ground and when he swung with Avalon, she brought her sword back up to parry his sword away, and quickly brought her sheath up to strike. She was so close to him, that he didn't see the shadow of the future until the last second, and his parry came just before the sheath hit his neck.

He tried not to smile, as he was in a fight, but after she switched up her strategy, Robin made sure to keep a closer eye on his best-friends surrogate sister. She yelled and struck out with both her sword and the sheath, which required Robin to bring both Caliburn and Avalon up to block. In a normal fight, he may have retreated and combined the swords into a bow, but the thrill of a finally getting to train with his sisters team kept him at close range, wanting to do everything he could to help.

Blake finally disengaged and leapt back, her aura flashed and before Robin could give chase he saw the future again. She launched herself towards him in a lunge, and sure enough her real body followed her shadows movements to a tee. Robin adjusted and side-stepped, going to knock her swords down into the ground for the win, but the minute he made contact with them, Blake disappeared in a puff of smoke.

"Huh?" Robin said, not seeing where she had gone, or understanding what had happened.

Where could she have possibly… crap her semblance! He thought with a shock, spinning around and raising Caliburn upwards.

Blake came down from above him, but just before she could get a good hit in, he parried her sword away. She yelped, and was still falling so he dropped Avalon and caught her by the arm so she didn't slam into the ground. He lowered her and gently poked her stomach with the tip of his other sword.

"I win," He said cheekily, before Blake sighed and slumped back to the ground.

"I guess you do…" She said despondently.

Robin laughed and slid Caliburn and Avalon back to their place at his waist, before reaching a hand down to help Blake up off the ground.

"Ha, that was really good Blake, you adjusted your strategy mid-fight, that's important," Robin noted, as a small smile came to her face he went on. "And that last move? Ha, if Niko hadn't told me about your semblance, you would have had me!"

Blake's smile slowly fell from her face, and for a second Robin was worried he's said something to offend her.

She chewed at her lip, looked to Niko who was teasing Weiss, and then back to Robin.

"You… know, don't you?" She said, keeping her voice down. "About well… me?"

Robin right away looked to make sure nobody was listening, before nodding. "Yeah… I know."

Blake sighed. "Niko told you, didn't he? How much did he mention?"

Robin shook his head. "Niko technically didn't even tell me. He just always talked about his 'little sister', he mentioned you were both from Menagerie so well… I kinda put two and two together."

Blake's eyes went wide. "He… didn't say anything else?"

"Nope, and it's not my place to ask," Robin promised her with a smile, putting a hand over his chest to promise. "Just like it's not my place to tell anyone that you're a faunus, not even Ruby or Yang."

"You… you mean that?" She said hesitantly. "Even your sisters?"

Robin nodded. "Yup, you're secrets safe with me. It's not my place to tell them, you can when you're ready."

A small smile came to her face. "Thanks Robin… I… I just don't know if I will."

He shrugged. "That's your choice… but I will tell you this. I can promise Ruby and Yang would never dream of looking at you different. I won't pretend I know what it's like, but I can speak for the ones I know most. And then of course, you always have Niko and me."

The smile grew on Blake's face. "That's… reassuring, thanks again Robin."

"No problem!" He said with a cheeky smile, before pulling out his scroll. His eyes went wide and he turned to the two teams. "Alright people we only have so long left! Let's switch it up!"

Blake smiled and Robin gave her a nod as they all gathered in front of him.

Clearing his throat Robin looked first to Ruby. "Okay, first you, little red, are going to go with Az. It's time you learned how to fight without Crescent Rose."

Ruby's eyes widened. "But Az is huge!"

"He's really just a big softie," Niko said, poking Az's cheek.

Az knocked his hands away and rolled his eyes. "I am not…. Come on Ruby, in a fight size will always be the last thing that matters."

Ruby sighed and walked towards one of the training fields with Robin's blue-haired teammate.

Robin smiled and looked top Blake. "Okay Blake, you're gonna go with Indigo next. You both have shadow semblances, so I think you'll work well together!"

"Okay…" Blake said, sounding a bit nervous. "Thanks again Robin."

"On it boss," Indigo said, turning to Blake. "Sup."

"Um… hi?" Blake said, following the purple haired boy towards the next field.

Niko and Yang laughed. Niko shook his head. "I never knew someone saying so little could be so funny."

"Ha, you're right about that," Yang said with crossed arms.

Robin smiled at them both. "Okay, Niko and Yang, you're together now too. Yang, work on fighting Niko's summons, it'll be smart to get practice fighting when you're outnumbered

Yang laughed and high-fived. "Haha alright let's get it Niko!"

"You bet firecracker!" Niko said, as the two rushed over to the third field.

Robin chuckled nervously at them.

"Those two certainly have the potential to either save all of Remnant together," Weiss said from next to him with a sigh. "Or… the potential to burn down the school."

Robin snorted out a laugh at the white-haired girls' sudden words. "HA, you can say that again!"

Weiss smiled, and Robin was happy to see it. However, when he looked back up to her, her shoulders tensed, and she seemed to be doing her best not to meet his eye again.

"I… I supposed that leaves me and you then Robin?" She said, her hands held in front of her.

Robin was worried now, she seemed like a completely different person then the one he'd first met, or even the person he saw interacting with her teammates.

Still, he tried for a smile. "Ha, that it does. Alright Weiss, time for a sword fighting lesson, what do you say?"

A smile did come back to Weiss's face, but only for a moment. "If… you think it's best of course. It's like I said before, I'd be honored to learn from-."

"Okay," Robin said with a sigh, taking a step towards her. Her eyes went wide at his sudden movement, ad this time Robin didn't let her take her eyes away from him. "Weiss… are you okay?"

Her eyes went wide again. The other three pairs had already started their training, but Robin didn't want to start with Weiss until he figured out why she seemed to change around him in particular. He couldn't train her properly if she did, and she was his friend as well.

"Ha… what are you talking about? Nothing's wrong," Weiss said, trying to look away from him, holding the end of her combat skirt.

Robin sighed and stepped in front of her again. "No, you're not. Weiss… did I… well, did I say anything to make you upset? Do something to offend you? It seems like it's just around me, you've been acting different. If I did, I'm-."

"No! No, you didn't," She said, chuckling nervously, waving her hands and finally looking back up at him again. "You didn't do anything at all, you've been nothing but kind and courteous to me, and I greatly appreciate it."

Robin's chest tightened as he actually saw her smiling again. "Ha… then, why is it you've been acting so weird around me? We haven't even talked like this for weeks."

Weiss floundered for a moment, before sighing, looking at the ground now. "Well… fine, I'll tell you. I… just supposed I've been waiting for you to well… confront me you could say."

Now Robin was confused. "Confront you…?"

"Yes!" Weiss said in an exasperated tone, narrowing her eyes now, seeming like the normal Weiss again as she went on. "I treated your little sister horribly the first week we were here! I was acting like a brat for days, and you haven't said anything about it! Yang tells me you go nuts whenever anyone messes with either of them, but you haven't with me, are you seriously just going to ignore how I treated Ruby and forgive me?!"

Robin took in what she said, looked her in the eye and she froze.

And he simply shrugged. "Sounds about right yeah."

Weiss looked at him and continued to flounder like the batteries in her system were sputtering.

"Wh…what?! How… why, what are you-." She started, but Robin shrugged again.

"Are you sorry?" He asked simply.

"Yes!" She said with exasperation.

Robin nodded. "Has Ruby forgiven you?"

"Yes, but I don't know how!" Weiss went on. "And still, I find her insufferable at times, I chastise her and-."

"Ha, she definitely needs it that's for sure," Robin cut her off with a smile and laugh. "You all go really well together now that I've seen you the last few weeks."

"But Robin!" She continued again. "How… how are you simply going to-."

"Weiss, you're sorry. Ruby forgave you; I have no reason to be resent you, not that I ever did," He noted to her, smiling as she stood straight up again, meeting his eyes this time as he went on. "You all have your own special quirks and personalities, my team has it too. You, Ruby, Yang, Blake, you were meant to be on a team together, everyone helps everyone. You help Ruby to not be so reckless, and she helps you loosen up now and then. It's the same way with my team, that's what they're for."

His smile grew and he put a hand on her shoulder, she stiffened for a minute, but after she exhaled and calmed down, looked up at Robin. She was only about an inch or two shorter then him, she smelled terrific, and her eyes… they were very very blue, which was Robin's second favorite color after red of course.

He stopped for a minute, composing himself before going on. "Your team is your family Weiss. Niko, Indigo, Az, they're my family. Ruby, Yang, Blake they're yours now. And that makes you mine too, I won't let anything happen to any of you if I can help it. I could never resent you or hate you."

He smiled, and for a minute or so she simply opened and closed her mouth, seemingly unable to comprehend what he had just said. That concerned him. Indigo had told him a few things about Weiss's background, and it had only strengthened Robin's resolve to make sure she along with the rest of Team RWBY got the best out of their experience at Beacon.

And in the end, more talented huntsman and huntresses, meant a safer Remnant, and that was what Robin wanted above all else.

Finally, Weiss closed her eyes and sucked in a breath, and she smiled like she was trying to stop herself from doing so. That made Robin laugh internally, she was trying hard to keep up the mask of prim and proper heiress, but in reality, he could tell she was just a normal girl who happened to have a famous last name.

"Well, if… that is the case," She said, letting the smile come. "If that's the case then… thank you, again Robin. I hope that I can prove myself worthy of the faith you've placed in me."

Robin scoffed a laughed and walked to the training ground across from her. "Ha, you don't have to prove anything Weiss," he said, before raising Caliburn and Avalon to his shoulders again. "But, what I do want, is for you to give me your best. Don't worry, I'll make sure to go easy on you."

He meant it as a joke, and when he saw Weiss's flustered face he laughed. Laughing didn't help the situation, because Weiss, who had a minute ago looked nervous and timid, finally looked like the Weiss he had seen the previous few weeks.

She slung out her Myrtenaster and narrowed her eyes at him. "I'll have you know Mr. Rose, that I was at the top of my dueling class every year in combat school before coming here! You won't be getting an easy match from me; I can promise that!"

"That's great!" He said, shifting his feet to a fighting stance. "I won't even use my semblance then."

"You'll need it by the time this fight is over!" Weiss said, seemingly seething now, before a glyph appeared at her feet.

Robin laughed and twirled the two swords in his hands. Avalon was slightly shorter then Caliburn, and they both pointed towards Weiss.

He was about to fight yes, but all he could do was smile.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Robin hacked away at the training dummy with Caliburn and Avalon, before leaping back and connecting the two swords with the press of a button. The cable shot out between the hilts, and a few seconds later his bow was in hand. He'd slung the arrows onto his back after his training session with he and his sisters team had ended.

Yes, the training session with Team RAIN and Team RWBY had ended a few minutes ago, but Robin simply wasn't finished.

He took aim and fired arrow after arrow. His semblance wasn't any help now, so he didn't activate it, his Uncle Qrow had always said, training without relying on your semblance was better. Your semblance should always be complimentary to your own skills. Robin had been shooting arrows since he was little, been swinging swords since he first could pick up a stick. Yes, he made sure whenever he trained, he used his semblance sparingly, that was how he'd gotten so good.

Arrows thumped and found home in the wood of the practice dummies he'd set out after everyone had left, and he found himself at peace, not thinking about what was going on in Vale, or making sure he and his sisters' teams were up to tip top shape. It was just Robin and his weapons.

He also knew that training with people never really did him much good. With his semblance, and with the amount of hours he had put in with his swords and bow, it was hard finding someone to match up to him.

Azure normally could for a little while at least, but he and Yang had gone out to Vale for a motorcycle race. Weiss, meanwhile, had drug Ruby back to their room to force her to do the rest of her homework today instead of the morning before it was due next week. Robin was particularly thankful for that.

Niko had taken Blake out for dinner with him to catch up, and Indigo of course never turned down a meal, so he had gone with them. So, it had left Robin by himself, which he didn't mind too much.

After exhausting his arrows, he went to collect them, smiling and satisfied with both his aim, and the days events.

"Maybe I can convince Oz to let Ruby and the rest go with us…" He said to himself as he unattached his quiver and refilled it with arrows. After that, he unattached his swords and slid them back to his waist with a sigh. "Who am I kidding, I can't put them in danger like that… maybe I should call Dad."

His Dad normally had the answers. His Uncle Qrow he knew was on a mission now for Oz, so it was unlikely that he'd get ahold of him. He knew his Dad as well had gone on missions for Oz back when he was at Beacon, so maybe he'd have some idea what the headmasters' cryptic missions and messages meant.

And then of course there was the big question on his mind, what was 'the choice', that Robin would have to make for his team this semester that his Uncle had mentioned?

The image of Torchwick flying out on his airship had been in his mind for weeks now. More dust robberies had taken place, he and his team along with Team CFVY had stopped a few, but there had been no sign of Torchwick himself, or Neo the girl Niko had fought. Who needed that much dust?

"We'll figure it out," He sighed, gathering up his scroll and quiver and groaning as he went to leave the training grounds. "But we'll do it later, I need a nap… Weiss was right, she sure does pack a punch."

"Robin?" Another voice said just as he turned around, and Robin recognized it and the person it belonged to as soon as she made her way into the training ground.

"Pyrrha," Robin said, putting the quiver back down and smiling as the red-haired member of Team JNPR was in full combat attire as she entered. "Good to see you, here to train?"

Robin hadn't talked to Pyrrha much in the weeks they'd been at Beacon so far. He knew she was kind, courteous, and incredibly skilled, easily the best of the first years. Azure had told her she wasn't on the cover of cereal boxes and in commercials back in Mistral for nothing, she backed up everything that was said about her.

Robin of course didn't care if she lived up to her image, she was a friend of her sisters, and kind to those around her, that was enough for him.

Pyrrha sighed but nodded and Robin could hear the confliction in her voice. "Yes, it normally helps me take my mind off things, I'm hoping that it does today."

Robin nodded and looked at her sympathetically, he remembered the cafeteria earlier that day.

"Is Jaune okay?" He asked as they both came and sat down on the bench next to the training field.

An annoyed look crossed over her face. "He's perfectly fine, it's clear that he doesn't need any assistance from me."

Robin bit his tongue hearing the bitterness. "What… what happened?"

She leaned forward, elbows on her knees and sighed. "I offered to train with him, just the two of us, where nobody else could see. He gets nervous in front of crowds and during class, so I thought it would be wise to train elsewhere."

"Sounds like a good deal," Robin said, trying for a smile. "Especially for Jaune. He's smart, but… seems to be lacking a bit combat wise, I thought of offering him the same."

"Yes, well he doesn't need it, he can do it all himself with his best-friend, Cardin!" Pyrrha said, shooting to her feet and grabbing the spear off her back.

"Cardin…?" Robin said, confused, but Pyrrha didn't offer him and explanation.

Robin saw her gripping her spear like her life depended on it, and he felt his head start spinning. They had just finished talking to Jaune about Cardin picking on him, what had happened? After a minute, he saw it was clear Pyrrha didn't want to elaborate or speak on it further, so he only stood and shook his head.

"Jaune's lucky to have a friend like you," He told her, offering a smile. "Just like Ruby and Yang are. Jaune will come around, it's just his pride talking, trust me he'll see what he has in front of him soon."

Robin was far from an expert on matters of the heart, but he could see there may be a bit more to Pyrrha wanting to help Jaune, other than just improving her leader's combat prowess. He didn't say anything of course, but his words seemed to have the desired effect.

Pyrrha smiled and gave him a small bow. "Thank you, Robin. I have to apologize, you were probably here to train as well, and I've come and interrupted with my problems and attitude."

Robin scoffed and waved her off. "Ha don't worry about it, I'm glad we got a chance to talk, we haven't really since we started. Azure tells me you're just as good as everyone makes you out to be."

Pyrrha managed a weak smile. "I'd like to think that I am. I dislike the attention most of the time. I never thought that so much success would… well-."

"Make people treat you differently," Robin said, sighing as he leaned down on both Caliburn and Avalon. "They see you as some untouchable figure, and put you on a pedestal?"

Pyrrha's eyes went wide for a minute, before she sighed and smiled. "I guess you of all people would know how it feels Robin. Every first year I've met talks about Team RAIN, and their fearless leader Robin Rose."

"I'm actually scared of snakes, and clowns, they freak me out," Robin noted. "I'm far from fearless."

Pyrrha laughed, and Robin smiled, it was a nice change from how upset she had been only a moment prior.

"Ahaha, well I can't say I blame you," She said, smiling at him. "But… you're right. People see me as some untouchable figure, making it hard to form any meaningful relationship. Not to mention it makes training harder, few people wish to challenge me and when they do they're timid and afraid."

Robin smiled, as an idea and opportunity formed in his mind, he smiled and reached out a hand to help her off the bench.

"Well, I think we can help each other out there," He said, the idea starting to excite him. "What do you say Pyrrha, spar with me? We'll go all out, semblances and all."

Pyrrha seemed excited at the idea as well, and eagerly took his hand. "I think that's a wonderful idea… it's been a while since someone has told me that."

"Well, let's get started then!" Robin said, walking across the training field as Pyrrha went to sling her spear and shield off her back.

Robin looked at her from across the grounds and nodded, before both of them pulled out their scrolls. A few clicks later and they accepted duel requests on each other's scrolls, and Robin saw both his own aura level and Pyrrha's appear on screen. Satisfied, they both put away their scrolls and smiled at each other from across the way.

He held out Caliburn and nodded. "Alright Pyrrha, like I said, don't you dare go easy on me!"

Pyrrha chuckled and readied her spear over her shield. "I wouldn't dream of it, let's see if the 'fearless' Robin Rose lives up to his reputation!"

Robin could tell she was joking, so he laughed. "Ha, and let's see why you got put on a cereal box!"

Pyrrha chocked out a laugh, before the two of them readied the weapons they had again, and Robin flared his aura, letting it flow to his eyes. Of course, until Pyrrha moved, he would only see one of her. Robin realized as the aura stirred in his eyes, he didn't know what Pyrrha's semblance was, he'd never seen her use it before, not even in training.

That only made him smile more, this would make it even better!

Pyrrha made the first move, she threw her shield towards Robin, which he was able to easily deflect out of the way with Avalon in his left hand, the move confused him.

Why throw away her best chance at defense this early? He wondered, as next, he saw the shadow. Pyrrha came with a quick lunge, but Robin saw it before hand and easily was able to side step and knock her spear down into the ground. He went to knock her in the back, but she turned around, and didn't seem phased.

He was confused for a minute, why she seemed so confident leaving herself open, but that was when he heard a whizzing coming from behind him.

Spinning around he saw her shield flying towards him. He yelled and raised up both his swords to stop it from slamming into him, but it was so sudden and while he could see shadows of the future, regular weapons didn't give off a shadow. It hit his raised arms and he got sent stumbling back, which gave Pyrrha the opportunity to kick him in the back and send him sprawling forward.

Robin wasn't seriously hurt, but the blow was far from pleasant. He rolled up after he fell and scoffed in amazement as the shield flew back into Pyrrha's waiting hand.

"Polarity… that's your semblance!" Robin said with a laugh, amazed by the variety of semblances he saw to that day. "That's awesome! Ha, that was why you threw your shield!"

"I knew against an opponent like you, I had to strike first and strike hard," Pyrrha said, smiling across from him. "There's no use in hiding my semblance like I normally try to do, especially when I already know yours, you can see what I'm doing before it comes."

"How did you know about my…" Robin sighed when he realized just how she knew. "Ruby…."

Pyrrha smirked. "She's always quick to talk about how 'awesome' her older brother is."

Robin was both annoyed and touched.

"Alright, so looks like we know each other's semblances now," He said, spinning both his swords again. "That only makes things even more interesting, let's go!"

Pyrrha nodded, and it was Robin this time who made the first move.

He struck out with Caliburn and Avalon, and now that he knew Pyrrha's semblance, was ready for the heavy weight he felt when he went to swing his swords. However, despite Pyrrha manipulating the metal in his swords, he saw where she was trying to strike. He swung with Caliburn in his right hand, but Pyrrha pushed it slightly and raised her shield to block it, but Robin had seen it coming, along with the thrust she went for with her spear.

Adjusting himself, he swung down with Avalon to knock Pyrrha's spear into the ground and quickly spun behind her. He saw the shadow of her swinging her spear back around, and ducked under it, before sweeping her legs out from under her. She dropped her spear and fell to her back, but Robin already saw her rolling to the side to get up. He went to strike as she stood, and she was sent stumbling as his sword hit her shield but then saw her shoot out her hand.

Dashing to the left he avoided her spear flying through the air back into her hand as she came at him again. After that, she came at him with another flurry of strikes with both her spear and her shield. Robin could see them coming and dodged or parried them easily, but Pyrrha seemed to adjust her strategy mid-fight.

She was trying to attack so quickly, and so relentlessly, that even if Robin could see the future, see her strikes, he wouldn't be able to block them all. It almost worked, Robin was put on the back foot, he blocked the attacks easily enough yes, but Pyrrha lashed out so quickly, and thanks to her polarity, his blades were heavy and harder to move as he pushed against Pyrrha's semblance.

But this isn't the first time someone's tried this tactic, Robin thought, as Pyrrha came for an attack from his right. Robin saw it coming, but also saw her feet shuffling below her. He didn't block the strike, instead falling to the ground and rolling under her right arm she used to swing her spear.

His cape blew back as she tried to adjust her swing and hit him, he raised up Avalon-the smaller of his two swords- and blocked, pushing hard against her polarity which tried to move his weapon. However, as soon her spear his sword, he dropped it and rolled.

She yelped as her momentum carried her forward and she stumbled. Robin kicked at her leg, and she fell, but he already saw her roll back up, and as soon as she did, Caliburn hit against her shield and finally knocked it aside. That left her wide open with only her spear to defend, but Robin already saw which way she lashed out with it, and was able to smack it aside with Caliburn.

She stumbled backwards, and tried to come back with her shield to knock him away, but Robin was in close quarters and was able to knock her shield up with his off hand, hitting the hand that held her shield and forcing her to drop it. Robin though he won for a second, but then he saw the future again.

He saw the quick recovery and spin towards his back and reacted. Pyrrha spun behind him and was able to go for another strike, but Robin spun with her, knocked the spear away with Caliburn, and tripped her to the ground.

After that, breathing heavily, sweat dripped down his chest, his cape tangled, he gently poked Pyrrha's chest plate, as she seemed as exhausted as he was.

"Looks… looks like I win," Robin said between labored breaths, a smile coming to his face as he laughed. "Ha… Pyrrha you… you really are something else! That was amazing!"

"Yes… yes but… but I was still defeated," She said, but smiling as she did. "And… and that hasn't happened in quite some time… it was actually quite fun."

"You bet it was!" Robin said, dropped Caliburn and helping her back to her feet. "You were amazing! If I didn't have my semblance, you very well could have beaten me."

"The same to you, if not for mine that fight would have been over in a flash," She said, the smile on her face growing as she gave him another. "Thank you, Robin, I felt myself grow from just one fight. It… it's been some time since I felt myself get so much better from one fight."

Robin scoffed; he knew she was being modest. If the two of them were to fight without semblances, purely off weapon skill, Pyrrha and he were more then likely evenly matched. It had been some time since he found anyone like that. Only his Uncle had ever pushed him like that, but once he used his semblance, he was normally able to stand a better chance against him.

In the end, Robin had won his fight with Pyrrha, with his aura level only dropping into the yellow… but it had been a long time since he'd been pushed like that.

And that fact excited him beyond belief.

"The same goes for me," He said with a long sigh to catch his breath. "I can't remember the last time I had a fight like that! We have to do this again, I can only get better practicing with someone like you."

Pyrrha smiled and nodded. "I'm in agreement… what do you say we meet up like this at the end of every week? After the regular training sessions are done? And fight like we did today, it will only make us both stronger."

Robin nodded eagerly. "Of course! I haven't had anyone push me so far in ages, thank you for this Pyrrha, it… it's helped me take my mind off everything that's happening."

"And it has for me too… thank you as well Robin," Pyrrha said, a small bit of red going to her face as she laughed and smiled. "Ha… thanks to you, I feel like I have someone to chase after now in terms of skill."

Robin shook his head. "Don't be modest, you almost had me, even with my semblance!"

"I think you're being the modest one," Pyrrha said, as they both laughed. After she did, the girl groaned and rolled her shoulders. "It certainly tired me out, I have to admit it's made me quite hungry as well."

Robin's stomach gave a hearty growl at the words, which made him laugh sheepishly. "Ha… I could say the same. What do you we go get some food, my team and Ruby's are all out and about somewhere?"

Pyrrha nodded. "That sounds like a wonderful idea, why not come back to our room? It may be late, but I know Ren made pancakes, we'd better hurry before Nora gets to them all."

Robin rubbed his stomach and laughed. "Ha, in my experience you can never go wrong with breakfast for dinner!"

Pyrrha laughed, and they chatted as they both went to walk from the training grounds. Robin couldn't help but smile, his mind put at ease at least for the time being.

This fight with Pyrrha only proves that I'm far from as strong as I could be… and now, just like Pyrrha, I have something to chase as well, he thought with a smile.

He'd be the best, that way he could protect everyone.

"HA, you're slacking Az!" Yang boasted as they gently rode their bikes back towards the garage where they both kept them stored. "You weren't even close!"

Azure sighed but smiled. "That's because I let you win. I don't think it'd be polite to embarrass my team leader's little sister like I normally do."

"You mean how you normally eat my dust in every race?" Yang smirked, pushing bumblebee up net to him.

Az rolled his eyes at her, which made her laugh as they placed both bumblebee along with his own black and blue bike starstream into the garage they both rented. He kicked down the stand and watched as Yang did the same, tossing back her mane of golden hair, and after she did, she turned and smirked at him.

"So, you hungry? Maybe we can meet up with Blake and Niko," She suggested as Az pressed a button on his scroll closing the door to the garage.

He laughed as Yang and he both turned to the streets of Vale. It was just after dark, only around seven, still plenty of time to eat, and his stomach was rumbling.

"I bet Indigo is with them too, he never turns down a meal," Az said, his hands behind his head as they weaved through the crowds of people. He scoffed as his blue trench coat almost got stepped on. "I still can't believe he was an aristocrat when he was younger."

"And I can't believe he was friends with Weiss," Yang said in disbelief, as the two of them came up to the pier. "I guess all kinds of people surprise you, still, I couldn't imagine Ind in some suit sipping juice out of a fancy glass."

Az shrugged. "Indigo surprises even us still. He's a lot smarter than well… he acts. We… never would have been able to save all those people if not for him. A wave would have crushed them."

"That's right," Yang said, looking over at him with her happy purple eyes. "This is where you all fought that leviathan last year isn't it?"

Azure shakily sighed, remembering the fight, and looking out over the now calm, serene pier, ships slowly making their way into port. If he blinked, he could remember the destruction and chaos that grim hoard and the leviathan had caused last year. It was like a cold splash of water had been dropped down his back looking at the site again, it had been the same way a few weeks ago when they'd all fought off Roman Torchwick that first week school.

He never would have guessed on the night before his initiation last year, he could really become the huntsman he always wanted to be, that Blair had told him he could be. It was in large part thanks to his leader, and to the new family he had, including the golden-haired girl next to him.

"It is yeah… I'll never forget it," Az said, leaning against the railing. "We almost didn't do anything but… Robin turned us around. I remember he said, 'don't you all remember why you came to Beacon in the first place, this is our job!'. We couldn't say no after that."

"And I bet you all thought, 'if we don't go with him, he's gonna go and get himself killed,'."

Az laughed and nodded. "That was a part of it too yeah. I remember I perched myself right up there," he pointed to a building on the docks. "I froze the ice, Niko kept it distracted, Ind put up a shadow wall to protect the people, and Robin… he found its weak points with his semblance."

Yang seemed to shiver. "Yeah… I remember how scared Ruby and I were back home. Our dad took us and we rushed here right away. He couldn't see for an hour or two after that, it was pretty scary."

"It was… but he said even if he couldn't see, it would've been worth it to save those people," Azure said, letting out a sigh and squeezing his hands on the railing. "Your brother… I hope I'm even half the huntsman he is one day. I'll be able to protect people as well as he does."

Yang responded by giving him a good punch to the arm. "Stop selling yourself short Az! Yeah, Robin's great, but so are you. Robin always says, if anyone is gonna be better than him, it's you."

"Ha… he did, did he?" Az said, knowing very well he did, but not believing it himself.

Yang nodded. "Of course, he did! He said it from the start, even from the first few weeks he was sending us letters."

"He never did doubt us for a second, did he?" Az said. "Even with how dysfunctional, and how much of an ass I was at first huh?"

"Nope, not for one minute," Yang said, putting a hand out on his shoulder. "And neither do I!"

Azure's shoulder tingled and his face got hotter, god Blair would be having a field day with me right now for how I'm getting.

He chuckled and rubbed the back of his head. "Ha… thanks. I hope I can be, I'm doing all I can to be a good teammate, to make up for how much of an ass I was at first… make Blair proud."

He said the last bit soft enough to where he hoped Yang hadn't heard. However, Robin's little sister had much more perceptive ears then he thought.

"Blair…" Yang said slowly, the sun now set over the water, the moon rising. "That… that was your sister wasn't it?"

Azure sighed, he hadn't wanted to talk about Blair, her name had just slipped out like it normally did sometimes. Remembering Blair was like pins being slowly stabbed into his brain, excruciating, remembering how he couldn't do anything.

He hadn't even told Robin anything about Blair, other then her name.

But… it is Yang, he thought, seeing her soft smile, waiting for an answer.

He nodded but couldn't smile himself. "Yeah… my older sister."

"What was she like?" Yang asked, her voice as chipper as usual.

Az scoffed. "Ha, a bit like you actually. Her weapon even looked like yours. She was loud, proud, never backed down… but she was also like Robin, always trying to do the right thing, no matter what happened to herself."

"Ha, well I may be a bit bias, but being like me must make her pretty awesome," Yang noted, crossing her arms. "What… what happened to her?"

Az's arms tingled. "Two years ago well… let's just say that I… I couldn't protect her."

Yang looked at him with sympathetic eyes. "Az… you weren't even at Beacon yet. You can't blame yourself for something like that."

Az managed a chuckle. "Ha… you're not the first one to tell me that. Still… it's why I fight so hard now for Robin and my team, and even Ruby and you. My dad's a degenerate, Blair's… gone, you're my family now, I won't let anything happen to yous."

"I know, but don't count us out!" Yang said, punching her fists together. "Protecting others is all well and good, but don't forget about yourself, we're here for you too Az!"

Azure smiled, a warm feeling running through his chest as he looked at Yang, ha… I'm right, she's so much like Blair it's scary… but the difference is Blair's my sister, I never found her attractive…

He pushed the thought from his head right away, he had much more important things to worry about.

"Ha, don't worry, I don't plan on going anywhere," Az said with a smirk. "At least not until I beat you and bee."

"Haha, there's a better chance of Indigo going back to the aristocrat life," Yang said, making the both of them laugh. After she finished, she smirked at him. "Speaking of my brother…. Him and Weiss?"

The change of subject was a welcome one for Azure, and one he had been wondering about himself for weeks now.

He laughed. "HA, they're both smitten you can see it. Why hasn't Weiss talked to him the last few weeks? She couldn't stop ogling him that first week we were here."

Yang laughed herself. "Oh believe me, I've made fun of her for it since then. I don't know what her problem is, something about being worried Robin doesn't like her because she was being a brat to Ruby our first week."

"Robin wouldn't care, so long as you and Ruby don't."

"That's what me and Ruby told her!" Yang said, before sighing with her arms crossed. "Oh well, either way she's got her work cut out for her. Robin's as thick as a boulder, he'll never see it unless she tells him herself."

"And that might not even work, last year Coco basically spelled it out for him," Az said, as they both finally turned away from the pier, his trench coat blowing in the wind. "He either really didn't know she wanted to go out with him, or he was terrified of her purse."

"Or both," Yang noted.

They both laughed, and Az looked up across the street. "Ahaha that's a possibility to yeah. Come on, like you said I'm… what in the world…?"

"Huh?" Yang said, coming up next to a frozen Az. "What is it Az, you know that guy?"

"Yeah…" Az said, his eyes trained on the boy. "He only said he'd be here for a few days, before going back to Haven… what's he doing here still."

Gil…the boy they'd saved all those weeks ago from Torchwick, was standing across the street. Azure could see him through a sea of cars, they kept obstructing his view, but with his semblance, he could feel the boy tapping his foot impatiently. Az didn't know what to make of the kid when they'd first met, he seemed like a bit of a whiner to Az, but he'd been kind enough to buy them dinner that night.

He hadn't even complained when Indigo made him but six bowls of ramen.

Now, he saw Gil leaning against the wall near an alley, his messy blonde hair blowing backwards, his orange, fire like eyes trained on the opposite wall. He wore a black sweater and khaki pants, and on his back, Az saw a sheath, and the hilt of a bone looking sword with a sharp pommel. He looked so different from the last time Az saw him, he almost thought it had to be a different person.

But thanks to his semblance, he knew it was Gil. The vibrations of each person felt either through his feet or hands were distinctive to each person. If he was blind, he'd still be able to tell who was who by the vibrations was they sent through the air or ground. He never forgot someone's vibrations, he knew Robin's, Niko's, Indigo's, Yang's, all the people he was close too by heart, but even still, he never forgot somebody else's either, they were all distinct.

No… that's definitely Gil, and he definitely said he was going back to Mistral. What's he still doing in Vale, with a weapon even? Az knew the boy said he was part of a team and attended Haven as a first year. But Haven was in session right now too, what was he doing in Vale and not at class?

Something stirred inside Az then, and after that… he heard Blair's voice.

Don't always rely on our semblance Az. A huntsman's best weapon is their instincts not their semblance. You have to trust them, no matter what. That was what she had always said.

"Az… you, okay?" Yang said next to him, snapping him back to reality. "Who is that guy?"

"Huh?" Azure said, looking over at Yang with a nod. He came up with a story in his head, Ozpin had been specific nobody knew of their missions into Vale. "Yeah, I'm fine, sorry… it's just we do know that guy from somewhere, he isn't… what the hell, where did he go?"

He turned back to where he had saw Gil standing in the alley… and he was simply gone. Panicking for a moment, Az reached out with his semblance again, but after he did he only panicked again.

"What? How could he just disappear?" He said, looking around, not believe his eyes or his feet. "I should be able to feel where-."

"Woah, easy Az," Yang told him, holding his shoulder. "Maybe it's just a coincidence, we can try and track him down if you want, we still got time, and it's the weekend."

Az wanted to say yes and figure out where the boy had gone… but he sighed as Yang squeezed his shoulder. She could have been right, perhaps Gil had needed to stay with his Uncle longer, or maybe he was even considering transferring to Beacon and was there to see the school.

The more assumptions you made, the muddier the situation became he always said, most of the time the most obvious solution was the right one. When you heard hoofbeats, you went looking for horses and not zebras.

Still… something isn't right with this… but we knew that already, I'll just tell Robin, Az thought with a sigh as he turned to Yang.

"No… it's okay," He said with a shake of his head. "Come on, lets go find some food, I'm starving after that race still."

Yang nodded and started walking ahead of him. "Ha, sounds like a plan, and since I won our race, I think that means you're buying right?"

She turned around and smiled at him, and Azure's chest skipped a beat.

He chuckled and nodded. "I suppose it does. Come on, you can pick where."

She nodded and Az went to follow after her with a smile on his face.

Don't worry Blair, I won't fail any of them like I did you, I'll make you proud, I promise.
