Kuvira woke up extremely early. Today was a special day. Today was the day she would be officially sworn in as captain. Her stomach was in knots so she drank her usual green tea to calm her jittery stomach.

She sipped her tea on the balcony of her apartment. She opted for the top floor since she loved the view of the mountains early in the morning and late at night. She smiled as she felt a pair of arms wrap around her waist. "Nervous?" Baatar Jr, her boyfriend of five years asked.

"No." He gave her a skeptical look. "Maybe a little bit but you being here helps," she said softly. Baatar smiled as he kissed her neck. No one knew of their relationship. They had been keeping it a secret, mainly because they were both afraid of Su's reaction. Baatar, however, felt that five years was more than enough time to let the truth come to light but Kuvira wasn't ready and now that she was becoming captain she certainly didn't feel like now was the right time.

"You're gonna be fine. Give your speech, smile for the camera answer a few questions and then you'll officially be Captain Kuvira." Kuvira smirked. "Say that again. It has a nice ring to it." "Captain Kuvira," Baatar whispered in her ear. Goosebumps covered her arms. Baatar smiled, knowing the effect he had on her.

"Careful. If you don't stop we're both going to be late," Kuvira said, turning to face him. He kissed her passionately. She snaked her arms around his neck, pulling him closer. The kiss continued for five minutes until Kuvira pulled away. I have to shower and you need to go back home before your parents or siblings realize you're missing," Kuvira said.

"I'd much rather stay with you," he pouted. "I know but you'll see me tonight at the dinner. There's gonna be a dance performance."

"Will you be performing?" "You'll have to wait and see," she said. Baatar gave her one more peck before heading out.

An hour later and Kuvira was dressed in her usual dark green armor with metal pieces. She made sure her eyebrows were perfect as usual then she added a touch of face powder and a touch of lipgloss. If she was going to be in front of thousands plus have her picture taken, she had to look her best.

Lastly she put her recently cut hair up in a bun at the back of her head, securing it with a metal hairclip. She gave herself a once over in the mirror before deciding her appearance was good enough. She put on her lotus perfume and then she was out of her apartment.

••••••••••

The ceremony itself wasn't very long. Anyone who was of importance was there. All the world leaders, President Raiko, Buttercup Raiko, all the guards of Zaofu, Chief Beifong , Prince Wu and Avatar Korra were in attendance.

Kuvira was getting more and more nervous as the time for her speech was drawing closer. She looked at the congregation, trying to spot Baatar but she was unable to. "Without further ado, I welcome your new Captain, Kuvira!" Suyin Beifong said as she introduced Kuvira.

Kuvira released a discreet exhale before approaching the mic. "Thank you everyone. I am honoured to be the new captain of the Guards of Zaofu. This is an esteemed honour and I promise to do my best to serve Zaofu and to protect its citizens. Thank you."

Everyone applauded Kuvira as she took her seat.

After this the previous captain, Captain Zao said a few words.

••••••••••

After the captain's words, Tenzin said a few words on behalf of the World Leaders amd then the ceremony was over.

Kuvira went into her new office which was a big empty space, safe for the desks and two chairs, for an interview and some pictures.

"So Kuvira, from child prodigy to dancer to security guard to captain. How does it feel?" "It feels amazing," Kuvira said honestly. "I mean I never could have imagined that my life would turn out like this. It's great."

"Do you think you have what it takes to follow in Captain Zao's footsteps?" The interviewer asked. "I do. I served under him for several years and I have been studying and training non stop in the past years so I think I am fully qualified to handle any issues Zaofu might have."

"What do you think about the wars going on between the Northern and Southern Water Tribes?" "Honestly I don't think I need to comment on it. I don't have enough information to give my opinion and frankly I don't think it matters. The water tribe wars have nothing to do with Zaofu or the Earth Kingdom so it's not my place to comment."

The interviewer shot Kuvira a weird look but said nothing. "Okay well I think that's enough questions for now. Except for one more. "Will anyone be accompanying you to the Guards dinner tonight?"

Kuvira was caught off guard. She never expected to be asked such a personal question. She cleared her throat before answering. "I will be going with the other guards if that's what you're asking."

The interviewer chuckled a bit uncomfortably. "Well I wish you all the best as you serve as Captain. That's officially all the time we have for today," the interviewer said.

Kuvira gave a smile for tomorrow's newspaper where her picture along with her interview will be printed.

After the interview, Kuvira managed to escape from the public to the safety and comfort of her own apartment.

She slipped out of her Guards uniform and into a green tank top with a pair of gray shorts. She let her hair down from its bun and she sat on her bed, reading a book about the 100 year war. She often read as a means to wind down and de stress which was exactly what she needed before tonight's dinner.

Hola my readers. So this is my second fan fiction story. The first is called Kim Possible: Antagonist. It was published last year so you guys can go ahead and check it out.

I recently watched Legend of Korra and something about Kuvira and Baatar's relationship spoke to me and I figured why not go more in depth with their private relationship as it was never really explored on screen so here it is. Chapter 1 is complete so you guys can comment and let me know what you think.
