Summary-
When the Avengers find a thirteen year old girl in an alleyway with blood all over her and they take her to Avengers tower and she ends up staying with them. Unknown to them though the girl has some secrets of her own.
Bruce and the Avengers were on a walk together, Tony of course complaining the whole time about it. "I just don't see why we can't take a car ride instead!". " Because you want to live until your 60" retorted Clint. They started arguing, the others joining in, and didn't notice the young girl stumbling out of the alleyway covered in blood and dirt. Our eyes made contact and her eyes grew wide. She immediately ran back into the alleyway. "Wait!" I yelled after her, gaining the others attention. I ran after her and looked around the dark alleyway.
I saw her in a dark corner. She saw me and immediately drew her fists up, looking like she was getting ready to fight. I would have laughed at that but she was still covered in blood. She had a few tears in her clothes, but no wounds, which lead me to believe that the blood wasn't her's. The only problem with that conclusion was that there was no one else here, no trail of blood if someone dragged them, and the blood seemed to be from the tears in her clothes, not to mention her trail of blood from when she left the ally to her corner. There was also an arrow in her hand and she looked just about ready to stab me with it. It also had blood on it.
"Calm down kid. Why don't you tell me your name and what happened?".
Just then the others walked in and her eyes widened a bit, suspicion and a little fear was in her eyes and on her face but she immediately masked it. She gripped the arrow tighter, her knuckles turning white.
It looked like her eyes glowed blue for a second there but the others didn't seem to notice and I put it off as the dark ally messing with my eyes.
"Kid, put down the arrow." said Clint.
She narrowed her eyes and had a scowl on her face and looked just about ready to throw the arrow at us.
"Don't make us make you put it down." said Natasha.
The kid didn't move an inch. She didn't seem to recognize us and wasn't scared by Natasha and she was pretty intimidating.
I was concerned about the kid. She definitely didn't look like she had killed anyone but she was still covered in blood so that was a little suspicious. She tilted her head with a look I could not identify on her face and she dropped the arrow but she still had her hands in fists and looked ready to fight.
"What's your name?" I asked slowly heading toward her. She didn't say anything and still had the that little bit of a fearful look in her eyes. I was glad that Thor wasn't here because as good as he is with kids, he can be a little bit intemadating when he was serious and had his hammer, plus he was pretty big and I knew that this girl would be even less trusting than she already was if he was here. Steve was out and so at least it was less people for her to take in all at once and feel intimidated by.
I started walking towards her.
As soon as I got within three feet of her she tensed up even more than she already was so I stopped and asked again "What is your name?". She still didn't answer me and the others started coming toward her. She immediately stepped back a few feet and the others seemed to take the hint and backed off.
"Why don't you come back with us, you can get cleaned up and then tell us what happened. Does that sound good?" She kept quiet and didn't nod her head or anything but she did drop her fists to her sides and everybody took that as a yes.
"Can we take the car now?" said Tony. Everyone turned to look at him and just sighed and shook their heads but that was all Tony needed.
I knew that in a few minutes that a car would be here so I took that opportunity to try and get the girl to talk and at least learn her name and what happened.
The team and I turned back to the girl but she wasn't there. I looked around and found the girl sitting on the dumpster with her legs crossed staring at us with a guarded and unreadable expression. She had her head turned to the side like she was studying us.
She reminded me a little bit of Natasha in a way. I was stunned that she moved with none of us noticing, and I was a few feet away from her and didn't even noticed she moved.
"A car will be here in few minutes to take us to the tower, then you can get washed up and a change of clothes, OK?" I smiled at her thinking that might help her trust me a bit more. It didn't seem to work. She just stared at me.
Then she turned her eyes and to the rest of the team and looked at them one by one, up and down, very slowly, like she was studying them.
I asked her "Can you tell us your name?". And again she just stared at me. I thought that maybe telling her my name and the other's names might help a bit. "My name's Bruce and this is Clint, Natasha, and Tony." I gestured to each of them in turn as I said their names.
I heard the car pull up behind us as Tony stated, very annoyingly that the car had arrived. She slowly slid off the dumpster but kept us in her line of sight the entire time. She definitely didn't trust us.
We all started walking towards the car and I could tell that she was hesitant to get in with us but after a moment she slid into the car, in the seat as far away from us as she could get.
As we drove back no one said anything. When we arrived back at the tower J.A.R.V.I.S took us up to the Assembly floor. Even though everyone had their own floor, even if they won't admit it, we liked spending time together. "Tony can you go and grab some of Pepper's clothes for our little friend here?" I asked. She scowled when I said that but still didn't say anything.
Tony just nodded and ran to the elevator. I could tell that he really wanted to get out of the awkward silence and I really couldn't blame him.
After a few minutes he returned with some of Pepper's clothes and gave them to the girl. I could tell that she was hesitant to take them but after a minute of looking from Tony's face to the clothes than back again, she took them.
"Follow me, I'll show you to the guest bathroom so you can wash up.". I started walking down the hall and showed her to the guest bathroom. "Take your time and come meet us when your ready." and with that I walked down the hall and back to the other's. I could feel her eyes on me as I walked down the hall then out of her sight.
"I found her!" I heard Tony yell as I entered the Living room. Tony was sitting on a couch with his tablet on his lap, tapping away. Clint was sitting with Natasha on the two person couch, both looking at Tony with growing impatience.
"Okay, out with it then!" I heard Clint say. I could tell that everyone wanted to know who this girl is since she absolutely won't tell us on her own.
"Her name is Quinn Reyes and she's 13 years old" that worried me because she looked more like an eleven year old and was obviously underweight "she lives at an orphanage near here named St.John's and has lived in...50 different foster homes!" Tony said.
"50?" questioned Clint.
"What else does it say about her?" I asked, wanting to know more about Quinn. She is definitely a mystery.
"Say's she has 'behavioral issues' and a 'rebellious streak' and doesn't talk to most people, shocker, then it just goes into all her foster home reports and behavioral reports. She isn't currently staying with anyone and she ran away about three days ago." and ending it there Tony looked up from his tablet at all of us.
"So what should we do about her?" asked Natasha. "She definitely has trust issues so she probably isn't going to trust us enough to tell us what happened in the few hours that she will be here." said Clint.
"What if she stays with us for a few days? I mean she doesn't have a foster family she is currently living with and you said so yourself we need more than a few hours for her to trust us." I suggested.
"A kid in Avengers tower?" said Tony. They all looked unconvinced. "It's only for a few days and one of us could be with her at all times, we have extra rooms on each of our floors and J.A.R.V.I.S can babysit her when we aren't around." Clint and Tony seemed to be coming around to the idea but I could tell Natasha still was entirely convinced but she just shrugged her shoulders when we all looked at her.
"There's still the problem of who is she going to be staying with." said Natasha. "She can stay with me." I said. The others just nodded and it was quiet for a few minutes before Tony broke the silence as usual with "Hey kids love pizza right? So how about we order pizza!"
We all just kinda shrugged and nodded, not really caring what we ate tonight. "We still need to tell the Nun's at the orphanage that she'll be staying with us for a while and we need to get her stuff from there too." Clint said. "I'll take her to get her stuff later and well we're there I'll tell them." I said. Just then Quinn walked into the room and I got my first good look at her, not covered in blood.
She had brown hair with matching brown eyes and tanned skin. She was wearing Pepper's White tee-shirt and black jeans that were just a little bit big for her. She was still wearing the same sneakers and I could tell that they were hand me downs and were old, they had holes in them too, barely heals together by duct tape.
She stopped when we all turned to look at her and I could tell that we made her uncomfortable, staring at her.
"How do you feel about staying with us for a few days?" I asked her. She froze up and looked at me then looked at everyone else again looking like she was studying us. She just shrugged and so I took that as a yes.
"You're going to be staying with me, in one of my guest rooms." again she just stared at me. "How about we go get you stuff from St.John's?" This time she didn't even shrug but just walked over to the elevator so to say yes so I got up and walked over too, careful not to get to close to her because I knew she didn't trust me yet and I didn't want to erase any progress we had made.
"We'll be back in a few." I said to the others. "Jarvis can you get a room ready for her when we get back?" and with that we left.
