The Mandalorian lands the razor crest carefully in the hangar bay. Once settled he turns to Kasari and the kid. He takes a moment to smile at them from behind his helmet.
"Stay on the ship. Both of you. These people can be a little," he pauses, "unsavory." He sighs, "It's better if they don't see either of you. Safer." He hesitates for a moment, then adds, "I want you both to hide in the sleeper. I don't trust these people not to climb on the ship without permission."
Kasari nods at him, "The kid and I will stay here, out of sight, and in the sleeper." She stretches, "We could use a nap anyway."
The Mandalorian sighs with relief from her easy acceptance, "I'll be right back." He tells her.
She smiles and nods as he exits the cockpit. He quickly exits the Razor Crest and finds his contact, Ran.
"Mando." Ran calls, "Is that you under that bucket?" He smiles and holds his hand out to the Mandalorian.
"Ran." Mando greets, shaking his hand.
"I didn't really know if I'd ever see you in these parts again. Good to see you." Ran says, patting Mando on the back, "You know, to be honest, I was a little surprised when you reached out to me." He moves his hand away and looks at the Mandalorian, "You know, 'cause I… I hear things. Like, maybe things between you and the guild aren't workin' out."
"I'll be fine." Mando says.
Ran nods, "Okay. Well, you know the policy. No questions." He pats Mando's shoulder again, "And you, you're welcome back here anytime."
They keep walking around the hangar bay.
"So what's the job?" Mando asks.
"Yeah, one of our associates ran afoul of some competitors and got himself caught." Ran says, "So, I'm puttin' together a crew to spring him. It's a five person job. I got four." He pauses and looks at Mando, "All I need is the ride, and you brought it."
Ran points to the Razor Crest and Mando hides his unease, "The ship wasn't part of the deal."
"Well, the Crest is the only reason I let you back in here." Ran says.
Mando glares at him through his helmet.
"What's the look?" Ran asks. He steps up to the Mandalorian, "Is that gratitude?" He laughs, "Uh-huh. I think it is."
Mando has to hold himself back as Ran walks around him laughing. He takes a moment to compose himself before following Ran to meat the team he put together.
"Hey, Mayfeld" Ran says.
"Yeah?" A bald man with blasters wrapped to his chest answers.
"This is Mando, the guy I was tellin' you about." Ran introduces, "We used to do jobs way back when."
"This is the guy?" Mayfeld asks, walking towards them.
"Yeah, we were all young, tryin' to make a name for ourselves." Ran laughs, "Yeah, but runnin' with a Mandalorian, that was… that brought us some reputation."
"Oh, yeah?" Mayfeld asks, "What did he get out of it?"
Ran laughs, "I asked him that one time. You remember what you said, Mando?" Mando stays quiet so Ran answers for him, "Target practice." He laughs, "Target practice."
Mayfeld joins Ran, chuckling.
"Man, we did some crazy stuff, didn't we?" Ran asks Mando.
"That was a long time ago." The Mandalorian says.
"Well… Well, I don't go out anymore. You understand?" Ran says. "So, uh, Mayfeld, he's gonna run point on this job." Mayfeld waves, "If he says it, it's like it's comin' from me. You good with that?"
Mando looks at Mayfeld, "You tell me." He says.
Ran laughs, "You haven't changed one bit."
"Yeah, well, things have changed around here." Mayfeld says and walks away.
"Yeah, well, Mayfeld, he's one of the best triggermen I've ever seen. Former imperial sharpshooter." Ran says.
"That's not saying much." Mando replies.
Mayfeld turns around, "I wasn't a stormtrooper, wiseass."
Ran smiles, "Don't take long, does it?" He laughs.
Mando and Ran walk towards Mayfeld and find him looking at the ship.
"Razor Crest? I can't believe that thing can fly." Mayfeld says. "Looks like a Canto Bight slot machine."
The Mandalorian ignores the insults and Mayfeld continues, "Alright. The good-lookin' fellow there with the horns, that's Burg." The Devaronian drops the large crate he was carrying and growls at Mando. "This may surprise you, but he's our muscle."
The Devaronian gets into Mando's face and stares him down. The Mandalorian doesn't flinch away and keeps his head up.
The Devaronian grunts, walking around him, "So, this is a Mandalorian." Burg says, "I thought they'd be bigger."
Mayfeld chuckles, "The droid's name is Zero."
The droid walks up to them.
"I thought you said you had four." Mando says.
"He does." A voice from behind him says.
Mando turns to find Xi'an walking up to them.
"Hello, Mando." She says.
"Xi'an." He responds, dreading this mission even more now.
"Tell me why I shouldn't cut you down where you stand?" She asks, twirling her knife in her hand before lunging for Mando.
He doesn't flinch, "Nice to see you too."
She laughs along with Burg and the others.
She sighs, "I missed you." She looks at his armor, "This is shiny. You wear it well."
"Do we need to leave the room or something?" Mayfeld asks.
"Well, Xi'an's been a little heartbroken since Mando left our group." Ran explains.
"Aw. You gonna be okay, sweetheart?" Mayfeld mocks.
"Oh, I'm all business now." She says pointing to Mando, "Learned from the best."
"All right, lovebirds." Ran says. "Break it up till you get on the ship. Right now we don't have much time."
The others walk with him to the ship. Mando stands his ground as Burg gets in his face again.
Burg grunts, "Tiny," and laughs.
Mando ignores him and heads closer to the ship with the others. He watches anxiously as the droid enters his ship without them. He just has to trust that Kasari keeps herself and the kid hidden.
"So," Mayfeld says, "The package is being moved on a fortified transport ship." He turns on a holo of the ship, "No, we got a limited window to board, find our friend, and get him out of there before they make their jump."
Mando studies the holo, "That's a New Republic prison ship." He says, "Your man wasn't taken by a rival syndicate. He was arrested."
Mayfeld leans toward him, "So what?"
"A job is a job." Ran says.
"That's a max security transport and I'm not looking for that kinda heat." Mando said.
"Well, neither are we. So just don't mess up." Ran says.
"The good news for you is the ship is manned by droids." Xi-an says, "Still hate the machines, Mando?"
Zero comes outside the Razor Crest at that moment, "Despite recent modifications, the ship is still quite a mess." It says as it walks to them, "The power lines are leaking, the navigation is intermittent, and the hyperdrive is only operating at 67.3% efficiency. We have much better ships. Why are we using this one?"
"'Cause the Razor Crest is off the old imperial and the New Republic grid." Ran explains, "It's a ghost."
"Yeah, and we need a ship that can get close enough to jam New Republic code." Mayfeld adds. "So, when we drop out of hyperspace here," he points, "if we immediately bank into this kinda attitude, we should be right in their blind spot, which will give us just enough time for your ship to scramble our signal." He says to Mando.
"It's not possible. Even for the Crest." Mando says.
"That's why he's flyin'" Ran says, referring to Zero.
Mando looks at the droid and back at Ran as Mayfeld laughs.
"Mando, I know you're a pretty good pilot, but we need you on the trigger. Not the wheel." Ran says.
"Don't worry, Mandalorian. My response time is quicker than organics. And I'm smarter, too." Zero says.
"All right. I- Yeah. That's good." Ran says, "Forgive the programming. He's a little rough around the edges." He looks back at it, "But he is the best."
"How can you trust it?" Mando asks.
Ran pats his back, " You know me, Mando. I don't trust anybody."
Mando turns and walks into the Razor Crest as Ran calls from behind him, "Just like the good old days, Mando. Huh?"
The Mandalorian closes the Hangar door without responding. He's relieved to see Kasari and the kid nowhere in sight. Which means they were still safely hidden. He joins the droid in the cockpit and watches its every move while it flies the ship.
"Calculations complete." It says, "Jumping to hyperspace now." They make the jump and it speaks to the Mandalorian, "Feel free to join the others. I will handle it from here."
Mando reluctantly leaves, worrying for how much longer the kid and Kasari could remain hidden with so many on his ship. He heads down and finds Burg messing with his ship, laughing. He closes the weapons locker and watches as the Devaronian growls in frustration.
Burg moves to mess with the door to the sleeper and Mando hurries to stop him, grabbing his wrist and holding it away. Burg growls and stares him down as Mayfeld intervenes.
"Hey, hey, hey. Okay. Okay. Okay, I get it." He says. "I'm a little particular about my personal space, too. So let's just do this job."
Mando keeps his eyes on Burg as they circle one another while Mayfeld speaks.
"We get in, we get out, and you don't have to see our faces anymore." Mayfeld says.
"Someone tell me why we even need a Mandalorian." Burg says.
"Well, apparently they're the greatest warriors in the galaxy." Mayfeld answers. " So they say."
"Then why are they all dead?" Burg asks and he laughs with the others.
"Well, you flew with him, Xi'an. Is he as good as they say?" Mayfeld asks her.
"Ask him about the job on Alzoc III." She says.
Mando remains in front of the sleeper as he responds, "I did what I had to."
Xi'an chuckles, "Oh, but you liked it." He turns to look at her, "See, I know who you really are."
"He never takes off the helmet?" Mayfeld asks.
Xi'an shakes her head and mimics, "This is the Way."
"Huh." Mayfeld says, "I wonder what you look like under there." Mando stays stoic, "Maybe he's a Gungan." Mayfeld jokes, "Is that why yousa don't want show your face?"
They all laugh at the joke while Mando remains watching them, subtly guarding the child and Kasari in the sleeper.
"You ever seen his face?" Mayfeld asks Xi'an.
She gasps, "A lady never tells."
Mando rolls his eyes behind his helmet.
"Aw. Come on, Mando. We all gotta trust each other here." Mayfeld says, "You gotta show us somethin'." Mando ignores him and watches as Burg stands, "Come on. Just lift the helmet up. Come on. Let us all see your eyes."
Mando watches them as Mayfeld gives Burg a small nod.
"I'll do it." Burg says, reaching for him.
Mando is quick to block his arm and kick him into the side of the ship beside the sleeper. His heart drops when Burg's fingers accidentally causes the sleeper to open and Kasari and the kid are revealed to the group.
The child coos from Kasari's arms and she gives Mando a quick grimace before accepting her fate and climbing out of the sleeper with the kid.
"Whoa! What is that?" Mayfeld says, referring to the kid.
He stands to get a better look at the kid while Kasari holds her ground.
Mayfeld smiles at her and then looks at the child, "You get lonely up here, buddy? Huh?"
Mando ignores him and Kasari scowls.
Mayfeld looks at Kasari and then at Mando, "Did you two make that? Huh?" He asks, "What is it, like a pet or somethin'?"
Kasari speaks for them both, "He's a kid. Back off." She says as Mayfeld gets too close to her and the kid.
Mando shakes his head, "Something like that." He says. Trying to downplay the importance of the kid.
"Didn't take you for the type." Xi'an says, "Maybe that code of yours has made you soft." She says before turning to glare at Kasari with hatred in her eyes.
Dank Farrik. This is a mess.
Mayfeld smiles at the child and touches his ear as Kasari continues to stand her ground. He looks at her, "Nice to meet you, Beautiful. What's your name?"
She glares at him and doesn't give him a response.
Mayfeld chuckles, "What's someone like you doing with a guy like him?" He says pointing to the Mandalorian over his shoulder. "Certainly you could do better than someone that doesn't show his face. Does he keep it on during.." He makes an obscene gesture, "You know?"
Kasari scoffs, "If this is your idea of flirting, you have a lot to learn."
Mando glares at Mayfeld as he crowds Kasari, "You know, you could leave the Mandalorian and get with someone you can actually see."
Kasari rolls her eyes and opens her mouth to respond, but Zero speaks over the speakers, "Dropping out of hyperspace now." It says.
They all grab onto the nearest wall or object to stay on their feet. Kasari holding the child close.
"Commencing final approach, now." The droid says. "Cloaking signal, now."
The ship spins and turns, causing them all to fall. Mando hurries to grab Kasari and the child.
"Engaging coupling now." Zero says, "Coupling confirmed."
Finally they land and Mando helps to steady Kasari and the child before guiding them back to the sleeper.
"I'll hurry back. Keep the child safe and stay away from the droid." He sighs as he pushes her hair out of her face and rubs the child's head, "I don't trust the droid. Don't let it see you."
She nods her head, "Hurry back Mando."
He nods and closes the sleeper. Ignoring the look from Mayfeld.
"That useless droid didn't even give us a proper countdown." Xi'an complains.
"Z, you sure they can't see us?" Mayfeld asks.
"The Razor Crest is scrambling our signature and I am inside the prison system. It's impressive that this gunship had survived the Empire without being impounded." Zero says.
"All right, we got a job to do. Mando, you're up." Mayfeld says.
Mando moves to open the hatch in the floor, he gets it open and waits for the others to go in first.
"It's me?" Mayfeld asks.
"Always you." Burg responds.
Mayfeld carefully checks to see if the hall is clear before carefully climbing down. Xi'an is next to follow, then Burg. Mando takes a moment to look at the sleeper before following the others onto the transport. He pulls out his blaster as soon as he's down.
"All right we're on the clock." Mayfeld says. "The second we engage those droids, they're gonna be all over us."
"I know the drill." Mando says.
"All right, let's go." Mayfeld says after the go ahead from Zero.
Mando follows closely behind him, keeping his blaster ready, as they walk through the prison. The prisoners watch them as the pass.
"I don't like this." Mando said. Feeling uneasy about the situation.
"You always were paranoid." Xi'an says.
"Is that true, Mando?" Mayfeld says, "Were you always paranoid?" He teases before a prisoner jumps at them from behind his cell door.
Xi'an snarls at the prisoner and chuckles with Burg.
"Approaching control room. Make a left at the next juncture," Zero says over the comm.
Mayfeld peeks around the corner and gestures for Mando to go down the hall first. Mando does and gestures for the others to follow him. Him and Mayfeld remain careful, staying close to the walls, while Xi'an and Burg stroll lately down the middle.
A droid comes rolling towards them and Burg chuckles, "What? It's just a little mousey." He pulls out his blaster, "Come here, little mousey."
"Burg." Mayfeld says, trying to get his attention, but Burg ignores him.
"Mousey, come here. Come here." Burg calls.
"Burg." Mayfell says before Burg shoots it, "Burg! No, come on. What are you doing?"
"What?" Burg asks.
Security droids come walking down the hall at the sound of Burg's blaster, "Intruder alert. Open fire." They say.
Mando starts shooting while taking cover. The others follow his lead, but Mando continues around the corner. Heading to the opposite side of the hall where the droids were coming from.
He comes around the corner behind them and takes out his vibroblade. He runs and cuts the leg off one droid, then moves to kick another, while shooting a third. The fourth gets a shot to his armor in the back and he turns quickly to shoot it as well.
Another one pushes into from to side and pins him to a corner. It attempts to punch him, but Mando ducks and dodges, getting himself out of the corner. He throws his vibroblade at another droid shooting him. It hits its target in the droids head. The one punching him throws him to the ground and the last two droids come stalking toward him before he uses his grappling line from his vambrace to pull one droid into the other.
They both fall and he pulls the line to remove the head of one droid before two more droids show up, shooting at him. He uses his flamethrower on them before beating the last one with a gun from a different droid and shooting it in the head.
The prisoners cheer from their cells as he tosses the droids gun to the ground. He looks at the members of his team before they walk towards him.
He catches his breath as Mayfeld says, "Make sure you clean up your mess."
Xi'an smiles at him as she passes and Burg shoulder checks him. Mando holds back his annoyance as he follows them down the next hall.
"It seems your presence has been detected." Zero says over the comm, "Redirecting security alert away from your position."
They make it down a few more hallways before Mayfeld calls Zero, "Z, open the door!"
"But I'm detecting an organic signature." Zero says.
"Yeah, okay. All right. Just open the door!" Mayfeld says and the door opens.
They run towards the room and find a man working inside, "Stop!" He says.
"Just stop right there." He stutters as they aim their blasters at him, "You put down the blasters right now."
They filter into the room, "Nice shoes." Mayfeld says.
"Put down your blasters." The man says.
"Matches his belt." Mayfeld laughs walking around the man.
"There were only supposed to be droids on this ship." Mando says, cursing himself for agreeing to any of this.
"Hand on, hang on. Let's see here. Uh.." Mayfeld says, looking through the prison data. Cell two-two-one." He says, "Alright, now for our well-dressed friend."
Suddenly the man pulls a tracking beacon from his belt.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Hey, hey. Easy. Easy, egghead." Mayfeld says. "Put that down. Come on."
"Easy." Mando says as he looks to him.
"Put it down now!" Mayfeld yells, pulling his blaster on the man.
"Easy. Nobody has to get hurt here. Just calm down." Mando says.
"What is that thing?" Burg asks.
"It's a tracking beacon." Mando answers.
"He presses that thin, we're all done." Mayfeld says. "A New Republic attack team will hone in on that signal and blow us all to hell. Put it down!" He yells.
"Are you serious?" Xi'an asks.
"Yes, I'm serious." Mayfeld says.
"You didn't think we needed to know that tiny little detail?" She asks.
"I didn't think we'd get to this point." He argues.
"Yet here we are." Xi'an says.
"Are you questioning my managerial style, Xi'an?" He asks, turning to her.
"She chuckles and gives a mock salute, "No, sir."
"Hey. Listen to me." The Mandalorian says to the man holding the beacon. "Hey, hey, hey. Listen to me, okay?" Mando puts his blaster away, "Look." He looks at Mayfeld. "Hey. Put it down."
"Are you crazy?" Mayfeld asks.
"Put it down." He repeats. "What's your name?" He asks the man.
"It's Davan." He stutters.
"Davan." Mando says, "We're not here for you. We're here for a prisoner. If you let us go about our job, you can walk away with your life."
"No, he won't." Mayfeld says, pulling his blaster back out.
"Hey." Davan says, pointing his own blaster at Mayfeld.
Mando takes out his blaster and aims it at Mayfeld as well. Mayfeld pulls his other blaster on the Mandalorian.
"You realize what you're gonna bring down on us?" Mando asks.
"You think I care about that?" Mayfeld asks.
"We're not killing anybody, you understand?" Mando says.
"Get that blaster out of my face, Mando." Mayfeld seethes.
"I can't do that." He responds.
Davan lowers his blaster as Mayfeld yells, "Get that blaster out of my face, Mando!"
Burg pulls his blaster on Mando and Davan, the Mandalorian prepares his flamethrower, "Don't." He says.
Suddenly a knife flies at Davan and he falls to the floor dead.
"Would you both just shut up?" Xi'an asks, standing from her seat and collecting her knife.
"You crazy Twi." Mayfeld says, putting his blasters away, "I had it under control."
"Yeah. Looked like it." Xi'an chuckles.
Mando and Mayfeld look at the tracking beacon as it beeps on the floor.
"Was that thing blinking before?" Mayfield asks, "Was it?"
Zero speaks over the comm, "Zero to Mayfeld. Zero to Mayfeld."
"What?" Mayfeld asks.
"I've detected a New Republic distress signal homing in on your location. You have approximately 20 minutes." Zero says.
Mando looks down the hall behind him and seriously debates leaving them here, killing the droid, and flying away.
Xi'an shrugs, "We only need five.
"Let's go, let's go. Move, move, move!" Mayfeld yells as they run past Mando.
He hesitates for a moment, looking at Davan's body on the floor before turning to follow the others. They come across a large droid on the way and Burg tackles it to the ground and tosses it at another droid heading towards them. Him and Xi'an smile at the destruction.
They continue carefully until they find the cell they were searching for.
Mayfeld puts in the tool and calls to Zero, "Z, open it up."
"You have 15 minute remaining." Zero says.
"Come on, come on. Open it up!" Mayfeld yells.
Finally the cell opens and Mando sees the prisoner this whole mess was for, "Qin," he says.
"Funny, the man who left me behind is now my savior." Qin says and he stares the Mandalorian down, "Mando."
Suddenly Burg pushes him into the cell and the door closes as a blaster shot bounces around inside it.
The blast hits his beskar and he hears the others living him behind.
"You deserve this!" Xi'an yells.
Mando stands up and takes a look at the cell. He has to get out of here. Get back to the kid and Kasari. There's no telling what they might do to them.
He waits until a droid gets close, then shoots his grapple line at it and pulls it close. He yanks it's gun from it, shoots it in the head, and uses it's arm to unlock the cell door.
Once free, he runs straight to the control room, finds where they are on the camera, shuts off the lights, and cages them in while blocking them off from one another. He continues to watch them on the cameras, seeing burg heading his way.
He eyes the tracking Beacon on the floor by Davan's body and places it in his pocket. This entire thing was a mess and he needs to make sure they don't come looking for him after this mission is done.
He climbs into the vents waiting for Burg to come for him.
"Where are you, little mouse." Burg says just below Mando.
The Mandalorian uses his grapple line to choke him, but the Devaronian is too strong and pulls him out of the vents. He lands with a thud and instantly tries to use the whistling birds, but Burg messes up his aim and grabs his vambrace before punching him in the chest.
The Mandalorian groans as Burg lifts him. He pulls his blasters out to shoot him, but Burg knocks them away and throws Mando at the console nearby.
Mando uses his flamethrower on him, but he just walks through it, knocking his hand away, and slamming his head into the console, before throwing him again. Mando lands on the floor and tries to get up, but the Devaronian kicks him in the gut and sends him flying into the console again.
"Let's see your face, Mandalorian." Burg says, grabbing his helmet.
Mando struggles against him and eventually pulls him down and flips him into the doorway. He throws a knife at the door controls and watches as the door hits Burg, but he is able to hold it back. Mando presses the control for the blast door and watches as it closes over the Devaronian.
Mando carefully checks Burg and finds him down for the count. He sighs in relief and drags the man to an empty cell before running towards Xi'an's location.
He comes from behind her, but she hears him coming and throws a knife at his hand, knocking his blaster away. She tosses knife after knife, but Mando blocks each one with his armor. He tries to throw a knife at her too, but she dodges. He groans as one of her knives lands in his shoulder. She lunges at him and tries to stab him, but he grabs her arm, yanks the knife out of his shoulder, and holds it to her neck. He quickly knocks her out and tosses her in the cell with Burg.
He takes a moment to check the cameras and finds Mayfeld. He quickly heads that way. He walks behind Mayfeld slowly, and switching around him as Mayfeld turns toward the hallway he came from.
"What the fuck." Mayfeld says, feeling Mando his eyes widen and he turns, "No!"
Knocking him out was easy, and Mando quickly brought him to the cell with the others. Finally he finds Qin at the entrance to the Razor Crest.
"Qin." He calls.
Qin pauses on the ladder and sighs, "You killed the others."
"They got what they deserved." Mando responds. Choosing not to elaborate.
Qin snarls and pulls his blaster on Mando. The Mandalorian is quick to aim his as well.
Qin sighs, "You kill me, you don't get your money." He shrugs, "Whatever Ran promised, I'll make sure you get it, and more. Come on, Mando." He scoffs, "Be reasonable." He tosses his blaster to the ground. "You were hired to do a job, right?" He puts his arms out in front of him. "So do it. Isn't that your code?" Mando lowers his blaster slightly, "Aren't you a man of honor?" Qin laughs as Mando places cuffs on his wrists.
Finally he enters his ship and finds the droid dead in front of the sleeper with Kasari holding her blaster out. Her eyes widen at the sight of him and she smiles. Mando lets out a sigh of relief that her and the kid are fine, then turns to secure Qin in the hangar.
"Get in the cockpit. Now. We have to leave." He says to Kasari.
She nods her head and hurries into her seat with the kid and Mando is quick to leave the prison transport behind.
"What happened to the others?" Kasari asks as they travel.
"I left them in prison." He responds.
Kasari laughs, "Good. They were really creepy." She shivers.
Mando chuckles.
"So what about the prisoner you brought with you?" Kasari asks.
"Had to bring him if I wanted to get paid, but don't worry, he'll get what he deserves too." Mando says.
Kasari smiles, "Good. Anyone those people wanted to break out of prison couldn't be much better than them."
They make it to their destination and Mando stands as soon as they land, "Stay here. I'll be right back. Stay in your seat, we'll be making a quick exit."
He hurries out of the cockpit, releases Qin's hands, sneaks the tracking beacon in Qin's pocket, and exits the Razor Crest with Qin in front of him.
"Where are the others?" Ran asks after hugging Qin.
"No questions asked. That's the policy, right?" Mando asks.
"Yeah. That is the policy." Ran confirms.
"I did the job." Mando says.
"Yeah, you did." Ran nods and takes the credits out of his pocket, and tosses them at Mando.
"Just like the good old days." Mando says.
"Yeah, just like the good old days." Ran agrees.
Mando nods and heads back into the Razor Crest. Once the door closes he hurries to his seat and takes off. As they leave, three ships appear in front of them.
Kasari's eyes widen, "Are those New Republic ships?"
The Mandalorian nods, "I slipped a New Republic tracking beacon in Qin's pocket."
Kasari laughs, "I can't believe you did that!" She continues to laugh.
The Mandalorian chuckles as he moves the Razor Crest into hyper drive.
He sighs in relief, unscrewing the ball the child likes, and turns to look at Kasari and the kid.
"I told you that was a bad idea." He says as he hands the ball to the kid.
Kasari scoffs, "Uh huh. Sure you did."
He smiles and turns back around. He leans his head against the seat and sighs.
"We'll be traveling for a good while," He groans, "I need to get cleaned up, keep the kid away from the controls." He says as he stands.
"Wait." Kasari says, stopping him, "Are you injured?"
He shrugs, "Just some bruises and a small stab wound. Nothing serious."
Kasari's eyes widen, "You were stabbed?! Where?"
She scans his body, using her hands to touch the few places the armor doesn't cover. Her hands shake as she frantically searches him.
Mando grabs her hand to stop her panic, "I'm fine, Kas." She glares at him and he huffs, "It was just my shoulder. I can mend it myself and then we can talk about how frustrating this entire thing was."
She shakes her head, "I'm not just a scientist, Mando. I had to study medical science as well. Specifically for clones, but it really is the same stuff for the most part." She shrugs, "Let me help you. It's the least I can do for you." She hesitates, "Unless it's against your creed?" She asks pulling away from him.
He squeezes the hand he's still holding and pulls her back to him, he shakes his head, "It's not against my creed." He sighs as she looks up at him, "I would be grateful if you could check me over."
She smiles at him and carries the child down to the Hangar with him. Mando sits down on one of the crates in the hangar and points to a spot behind Kasari.
"There's a medkit over there. It should have what you need." He says.
She smiles and retrieves the kit, setting the child on the floor to play as she does. The kid comes toddling to Mando and he picks him up for a moment.
"Hey kid. Were you good for Kas today?" He asks.
Kasari chuckles, "It's very hard to keep a child entertained in a small sleeper, but he did well. The droid found us because the kid decided he wanted out and used the force to do it."
"His powers?" The Mandalorian asks.
Kasari nods, "Yeah, he pushed me back and hurried out the door before I could stop him. He hurried back once he saw the droid, and we snuck back into the sleeper and waited." She comes to him and moves the child back onto the floor, "I need you to take some of your armor off so I can actually see your wound." She says.
The Mandalorian nods and begins removing his upper armor, "The droid was dead by the time I got to you. What happened there?"
Kasari shrugs, "He opened the door, I didn't think, just shot." She chuckles, "You came in right after. It's a good thing too, if you had opened the door instead of the droid, I probably would've shot you too."
Mando chuckles, "We'll work on your trigger discipline so next time you look before you shoot."
She smiles at him and helps place his armor in a neat row beside them. Mando hesitates as the last of his upper armor is gone.
He clears his throat, "Xi'an got me in my right shoulder." He says as he gestures to it.
Kasari scowls, "I think I dislike her the most."
Mando chuckles, "Because she stabbed me?"
Kasari shakes her head, "No, but that certainly doesn't help her case." She hesitates as she reaches out to his shoulder, "Can you remove your shirt?" She asks.
Mando nods and carefully undoes his shirt from behind before letting it fall off his shoulders.
Kasari blushes as she looks at him, "May I?" She asks gesturing to his shoulder and the smaller knife wound. He nods and she gets to work.
She carefully looks at his wound before putting gloves on her hands and using antiseptic to clean it. The Mandalorian hisses at the contact, but remains still as she does her work. They sit in silence as she focuses and finally bandages his shoulder. She hesitates as she finishes her work and carefully moves her hands to trace the scars across his body.
She swallows and looks at him, "How are you alive?"
He chuckles, "I've been told I'm stubborn."
She smiles as she traces an old blaster wound on his side, "For a man in beskar armor, you certainly get hit a lot."
He shrugs, "I didn't always have beskar, and not every part of my body can be covered. Some shots get through."
She removes her hand and shakes her head, "I couldn't imagine it. Doing what you do. Dealing with these wounds on your own."
"I don't always have to handle them myself, the covert has helped heal many." He explains.
She looks up at him and places her hand on the side of his helmet, where his cheek would be, "What happens if you get a head wound?"
"I handle it myself." He states.
"And if you can't?" She asks.
He looks at her a moment, "This is the Way." He says quietly.
She bites her lip and nods, "I understand."
She moves to get up, but he grabs her arm and stops her, "Thank you, Kas."
She smiles, "Don't mention it, Mando."
"Din." He says.
She looks at him puzzled, "What?"
He takes a deep breath, "My name." He swallows, "My name is Din Djarin."
She looks at him for a moment, awe clear on her face, "Din." She whispers, she takes a shuddering breath and smiles brightly at him, "It's nice to meet you, Din Djarin."
He sighs at the sound of his name from her lips and leans his head on her shoulder. She freezes at the contact for a moment before relaxing and placing her hands on his back. She rubs soothing circles on his back as they hold each other.
He sighs, relieved to have her and the kid safe.
