Marinette and Alya discuss Ladybug trapping Alya and Nino together in a cage during the episode Animan. This takes place sometime during season 4.

"There's something I've been meaning to ask you." Alay says.

Marinette looks up from her sewing project to eye her friend closely, "What is it?"

Alya sighs, "Why did you stick Nino and I in a cage together during Animan?"

Marinette groans as her face grows red, "I was just trying to keep you both safe."

Alya rolls her eyes, "Uh huh. Sure. And locking us in the same cage had nothing to do with you thinking Nino had a huge crush on me."

Marinette laughs nervously, "O-of course not. That would be irresponsible of me."

Alya laughs, "Relax girl. I'm not mad. I've been tempted to thank Ladybug for that for a while. It is what brought Nino and I together."

Marinette smiles at her, "I'm not saying I did it on purpose, but I am glad that you two got together."

Alya smiles at her best friend, "And to think. Nino and I have been plotting ways to get Ladybug to do the same thing for you and Adrien. Too bad that isn't possible."

Marinette blushes, "H-huh?"

Alya chuckles, "Nino thought that getting you towo trapped together would help you to become closer. Now that I know you're Ladybug, that plan won't work. We'll have to come up with something else."

Marinette shakes her head and chuckles, "I appreciate the thought, Alya. But Adrien and I have been trapped alone together before and it hasn't helped."

Alya sighs, "Maybe you should try to woo him as Ladybug." Alya teases, "Nino says that Adrien has a huge crush on your superhero persona."

Marinette blushes even more, "I-I c-couldn't. That would b-be s-super irresponsible! You know that. Even if he is dreamy. I-it would be nice…" Marinette shakes her head, "No. It would do nothing but put us both in danger. Besides… I want him to like the real me. Not the mask."

Alya sighs, "Ladybug is a part of you, Marinette. She's not just a mask. She's the part of you that you only let shine when you need to. When you're confident and standing up for other people. She's not some fake persona. She's still you."

Marinette shakes her head, "But Ladybug doesn't stutter. Ladybug's not clumsy. She doesn't make a fool of herself."

Alya gives her a look before saying sarcastically, "Sure. Ladybug has never stuttered, fumbled, or made a fool of herself." Alya rolls her eyes, "I have plenty of photographic evidence that Ladybug can be just as clumsy as Marinette. You are the same person after all. You just find your footing better as Ladybug. Your confidence takes over. I also know that Ladybug has stuttered in front of Adrien. Nino was witness to that display."

Marinette groans, "Please don't remind me."

Alya chuckles, "Alright, alright. Return to your sewing. I'll leave you alone for now. But I still have more questions for you."

Marinette sighs, "Of course."

Alya smiles, "You love me."

Marinette smiles too, "I do."

With those words she returns her focus to the material in front of her as Alya makes herself comfortable in her room. Marinette hopes she can get through the questions Alya has for her.
