The Curse of Kokiri Forest

Chapter 1: The Grey Mirror (Fado's Mirror)

Saria and Fado rested a few days. Mido was annoying as usual, but he kept the Kokiri from doing stupid things like wandering out of the forest alone. The Great Deku Tree - still dead. The Forest Temple - still there.

The season: spring.

Fado, on the other hand, was more in the Forest Temple than what was usually the case. She had found a mirror in which she could see Dark Link, and she frequently talked to him. He seemed to be very different from the old Link who always seemed to make trouble. Long ago the Great Deku Tree seemed to have made Saria take care of Link and so her view of Link was biased. But Dark Link seemed so much nicer and more thoughtful.

Sheik was with Zelda. They talked much about old times and how Zelda was now forbidden to intervene in destiny again. Sheik tried to teach Zelda about short swords, but this was very hard for her - she also didn't make much progress in

Zelda sometimes had visions, and there sometimes was a glowing triangle on the back of her right fist. She told one particular vision to Sheik:

An old man wearing yellow clothes chooses 6 sages for his collection.

His calm outer demeneor belies his true intentions.

Seven sages are needed to protect the Triforce.

The fire that burns in their hearts may be restored.

Only the wind may change direction.

This prophecy was about exchanging the Sage of Fire with someone else, and about exchanging the Sage of Light with the Sage of Wind, Fado.

"Sheik, you should go soon and help the Sage of the Forest and the Sage of Wind."

Fado was in the Forest Temple again, in the left wing, where there was a mirror through which she could talk with Dark Link.

"So what do you think about Sheik, Dark Link?"

"You can call me Link, you know…"

Thankfully Dark Link's voice was like Link's voice.

"No i won't there will be too much confusion later. Sheik was important to us once, but Saria seems to think our representations in paintings and mirrors are worthwhile."

"I am here because Link isn't… are you sure that now is the right time and not later? You also tried to break me free of this prison."

"Yes we did. And it didn't work."

"I think Light Ganondorf might shed some light here, he could explain how the curse works better."

"But i don't know how to get there, only Saria could…"

"Yes, maybe you need to work together again. Now that wouldn't be so hard?"

—-

It was unusual for Fado to need a favor from Saria.

"Hey Saria, could you spare a moment?"

Saria was busy trying to connect her house to her tower using magic somehow. She didn't know much about teleportation magic, so that only left the ability to cut a window into the rooftop.

"Yes, why?"

"We need to go into the forest temple real quick because now i need to speak to some guy named Light Ganondorf who can explain everything better about Dark Link's curse." Fado said real quick.

Saria waited a moment.

"Yes, we do that, but under one condition."

"You name it."

"You tell me about Dark Link on the way, and all other Dark Someones you have encountered."

—-

As they were on thei way to the Forest Temple, Fado explained.

"So i met Dark Link, Light Link, and i also met a Dark Saria"

"Where did you meet them?"

"Oh, in some mirror i found, it seems they are bound to paintings an mirrors. Light Ganondorf seems to be only bound to one specific mirror."

"Now that's a relief. I don't like you talking to my counterpart. In fact, i don't like you talking at all to Link, in whatever version he may appear!"

"Do you remember when we tried to fix Light and Dark Link together?"

"Yes. I didn't work."

"It seems there are too many magic windows around."

"So what's the deal about Dark Link… and you?"

"He's much more talkative and nicer than Link. So it seems Link is sealed away in the sacred realm. And there seems to be some guy named Rauru…"

Saria remembered he wasn't a good fit for a sage.

"We fixed thinghs halfway with Malon replacing that Darunia as the Fire Sage, but we still need to deal with the Sage of Light, Rauru. I am supposed to be the Wind Sage, and somehow we two seem to have some faint connection to the moon, maybe that will be enough to throw Rauru out of the sacred realm."

Saria remembered the moon shining through the well in the right wing of the Forest Temple.

She supposed thinghs were similar in the left wing.

"So. Dark Link may be there for us, to battle Rauru in the end. But we still need to free him."

"What about Sheik?"

"Sheik? Yes, we might need her to. See, we are already here at the sacred Forest Meadow. Let's just play some music first, won't we?"

The music they played quickly attracted some fairies. There was a small pond that always refilled.

Saria had made it a habit to always drink from that pond when she was there.

Inside the temple, Saria led Fado into the right wing and way down to the painting in which Light Ganondorf lived.

"Light Ganondorf, can you please bestow upon us your wisdom about Dark Link and the mirrors!" Saria asked

Light was pulled out of the books surrounding the painting and into the painting. Light Ganondorfs voice could be heard in the library. Fado was more scared than Saria - of course this was the first time experiencing that.

5 Mirrors in one temple

One for the Sage of the Wind

One for the Sheikah that was never meant to be

One for Dark Link's one side

One for Dark Link's other side

And one for the Sage of the Forest

All of them have to be destroyed.

1 Painting that has to be destroyed, then made whole again.

My spirit aches for freedom.

1 Glass painting in a faraway land.

Only the wind can tell the story.

"So Fado, can we get to your mirror fast, and destroy it?"

"I already tried, it's impossible…" Fado lied

"Then at least look at it?"

Reluctantly, Fado led Saria into the left wing, where there was a mirror with a grey outline.

"When i look into the mirror, i see leaves floating in the wind, i sometimes can see the moon - but i don't see any Dark Link" Saria said.

After a pause, Fado asked:

"Saria, where did you put the Forest Emerald?"
