Quinlan felt a nasty migraine in his head as he finally cracked open his eyes, which no one would ever expect to happen to a demigod. When he tried to move, he found himself unable to, as he was tied in a rope.
"Huh?" he shrugged. "No matter."
He tried to break out with his incredible strength, but the rope only seemed to get tighter.
"Agh! What the-?!"
"Welcome back to the realm of the living, sleepy head." Myra said.
"I am Ahsoka Tano of Manta-Jedi." said the Togruta. "This is my canoe, and you will restore the heart of Lei Reigna when we find the other daughters."
Quinlan struggled again.
"Don't bother." said Fantasia. "That rope was enchanted with a stop spell used to stop the sun on the longest day of the year."
"Like it or not," said Ahsoka, taking out the heart. "You are going to help us restore this heart and-"
Quinlan kicked the heart from Ahsoka's hand, making her drop it into the ocean.
"NO!"
But then, an ocean wave spat the heart onto Quinlan's head.
"Ouch!" cried the demigod.
Myra picked up the heart and saw Quinlan freeze.
"Are you afraid of it?" Myra smirked.
"No!" said Quinlan too quickly. "No. That is not a heart. It is a curse. The second I took it, I got blasted out of the sky by this one's lightning and lost my hook."
"First of all, my power is the sun, not the wind." said Fantasia. "That's Dream Heart's power. And the curse was you taking it."
"Listen," said Quinlan. "That thing doesn't give you power to create life, it's a homing beacon of death. If you don't put it away, bad things are gonna come for it."
"Oh, for this heart?" Myra said.
Fiesta then looked worried as she saw something, her ears falling back as she sensed something. The same happened with Fantasia's ears.
Suddenly, and arrow struck the boat, just barely missing Zatt.
"Kaka-Ewoks." said Quinlan.
"Kaka-what?" Ahsoka scrunched her nose.
"Murdering little hairballs." Quinlan said. The next thing he said sarcastically. "Wonder what they're here for."
And that was when, on a rock, there were three little creatures. Three small teddy bear-like creatures with hoods on their heads, their little button eyes too cute to ignore.
"Aww." said Ahsoka. "They're kinda cute."
But that was when the Ewoks brought out slingshots, swords, and arrows. And out from a fog that came seemingly out of nowhere appeared a giant ship with even more of these little teddy bear pirates on board.
Ewoks played drums as their captain came out and ordered his men to get the heart of Lei Reigna.
"Ocean!" Ahsoka exclaimed. "Do something! Help us!"
"The ocean doesn't help you. You help yourself." said Quinlan. "Tighten the halyard. Bind the stays!"
"Fiesta!" said Fantasia. "You and I have to distract the Ewoks!"
And the two alicorns flew out and swooped at the Ewoks' ship, distracting them and making some of them drop their weapons into the ocean, which gave their friends a fighting chance.
"How come you're not shapeshifting?" Zatt asked Quinlan.
"Even if I weren't tied up, do you see my hook?" said Quinlan. "No magic hook, no magic powers!"
This time, the Ewoks shot arrows with ropes onto the canoe and began to pull Ahsoka and her friends towards their boat.
Fiesta, however, began to chew through some of the ropes.
"Shield your eyes, everyone!" said Fantasia.
Fantasia concentrated, and some balls of golden light appeared seemingly from out of nowhere. And with a wave of her horn, Fantasia made an incredibly blinding flash of light that temporarily blinded the Ewoks and made them steer off course. But their one ship had turned into two boats, and there were some Ewoks who hadn't been blinded, and they came after the heart.
"Hey, get me out of this!" Quinlan begged.
"Not risking you trying to run off." Fantasia said, shining more sunlight on the Ewoks.
Suddenly, a strong wind hit the canoe and got it a safe distance from the bigger ships, and a tornado took on the Ewoks!
Fantasia looked up with a terrific shock.
"I don't know if that was luck or unlucky." Myra said.
"That wasn't luck." said Fantasia. "It was..."
And that was when a new alicorn flew in, her horn a glowing. She looked just like Fantasia, but with an all-magenta mane.
"Glad I could breeze on by, Sis." said Dream Heart. She looked back. "Those Ewoks won't be bothering anyone for a while."
The others couldn't believe how fortunate they were. Dream Heart, or Dreamira Heart, had come to their rescue right in the nick of time.
"You have no idea how happy I am to see you." Fantasia smiled at her sister.
"I guess it was a good thing you happened to be sailing not that far from Kamino Isles." Dream Heart said. "I was just giving them some rain for their crops when I saw the Ewoks and Fantasia's light."
"Thank you for saving us," said Ahsoka. "I'm Ahsoka Tano of Manta-Jedi. This is Myra Windu and Zatt Fisto. Our friend Fiesta, and I'm guessing you know the guy in rope."
Dream Heart snorted when she saw Quinlan.
"I remember you!" Dream Heart said angrily.
"Hey, cut me some slack. I'm tied up. Can't exactly fight back." Quinlan begged.
"You think I'm gonna let you?"
"Dreamira Heart!" Ahsoka said.
"Dream Heart." the youngest alicorn corrected.
"Whatever. We need him. And we need to find your other sister in order to restore Lei Reigna's heart."
"Even if I wanted to help, which I don't..." said Quinlan. "You gotta go through an entire ocean of bad to get to Lei Reigna. Not to mention there's Lavadera. You know? A lava monster? She's got the word 'lava' right there in her name? Ever defeated a lava monster before, Princess?"
"No." Ahsoka smirked and crossed her arms. "Have you?"
Quinlan looked disgruntled.
"Ooh! Burn." said Myra. "And she's not even a lava monster."
"Well, I'm not going on a suicide mission with a bunch of horses and mortals." said Quinlan. "You can't restore the heart without me and me says no. I'm getting my hook. End of discussion."
Quinlan got himself up to his feet.
"How exactly do you plan on swimming while tied up?" Zatt asked.
"Just watch me." Quinlan said, and he jumped into the water, only for the ocean to throw him right back onto the boat.
Quinlan was surprised, and so were the others.
"Was not expecting that." said the human demigod."
He tried again, and the ocean threw him back onto the boat. Then he tried again. And again. And again. But no matter what side of the boat he tried jumping from, the ocean just brought him back, and the others just laughed.
"Having fun there?" smirked Ahsoka.
"I guess we don't need this after all." said Fantasia, taking the rope off Quinlan.
Quinlan tried jumping one more time now that he was untied, but the ocean threw him right back on the boat.
The immature demigod crossed his arms and pouted.
"I'm still not doing the mission."
Ahsoka sighed. Finding the third daughter would be useless if they couldn't get Quinlan to cooperate. But, this princess knew just the weakness of this so-called strong demigod.
"You'd be a hero." sang Ahsoka. That caught Quinlan's attention. "That's what you're all about, right?"
"Little lady, I am a hero." said Quinlan, biting into a banana he took out from the supply, until Fantasia took the rest from his hand. "Hey!"
"Pft! Some hero." said Myra sarcastically, carving something out of a piece of wood.
"Maybe you were." Ahsoka said. "But now... now you're just the guy who stole the heart of Lei Reigna."
"Our mother!" said Fantasia and Dream Heart, glaring at Quinlan.
"Yeah, and a couple of angry mares is probably the least of your worries." Ahsoka continued. "You cursed the world. You're no one's hero."
Quinlan scoffed. "No one?"
Everyone looked at Quinlan and shook their heads. Even one of the ocean waves moved to shake a head 'no.' Quinlan looked down and though he wouldn't admit it out loud, he knew Ahsoka was right.
"But..." Ahsoka continued, motioning to her necklace. "Put this back, save the world, you'd be everyone's hero."
Quinlan could practically hear and see it now: a crowd of people cheering, chanting, "Quinlan! Quinlan! Quinlan!"
"You're so amazing!" Myra whispered behind Quinlan's back.
Quinlan sighed when he came back to reality and said, "We'd never make it without my hook. Not past Lavadera."
"Then we get your hook." said Ahsoka. "We get your hook, find Forsythiana, take out Lavadera, restore the heart. Unless you don't wanna be Quinlan Vos, demigod of the wind and sea. Hero to all."
Ahsoka held out her hand for Quinlan to shake.
Quinlan thought, and he said, "First, we get my hook."
"Then save the world."
"Actually, we have to find our sister before we can do the saving the world part." said Fantasia.
"Okay then." Ahsoka said. "Hook first, then sister, then save the world."
Ahsoka looked at Quinlan again and held out her hand.
"Deal?"
This time, Quinlan shook her hand and declared a deal... before throwing her off the boat.
And just like with Quinlan before, the ocean brought Ahsoka back on board.
"Worth a shot." said Quinlan. "Ow!"
Quinlan rubbed his cheek, as Myra punched him there.
"What the heck was that for?!"
"You tried to drown my friend." said Myra.
Quinlan shook his head and navigated by the stars.
"Okay, so now we go East to the lair of Onaka." He said, feeling the water. "If anyone has my hook, it's that crazy, greedy-pants bottom-feeder."
"Who's this Onaka guy?" Myra asked.
"His name is Hondo Onaka." Fantasia said. "He's this captain of pirates who live deep beneath the coves of Florru Isle. They collect all kinds of treasures for themselves and bedazzle themselves with all kinds of things."
"And Hondo is the worst." Dream Heart said. "He's pretty picky too, and he'll do anything to get more, more, more."
"Then let Myra give him more, more, more punches." Zatt said.
"I'm good, but I can only punch so many at a time." Myra said.
Ahsoka saw how well Quinlan was doing with the sail.
"Teach me to sail." said Ahsoka.
"You don't know how?" Quinlan said.
"I'm self-taught." said Ahsoka.
"It's called wayfinding, princess."
Quinlan climbed up the mast and looked forward and behind. "And it's not just sails and knots. It's seeing where you're going in your mind. Knowing where you are... by knowing where you've been."
"I hate to admit it, but he's right." said Fantasia. "The same goes for us flying equines finding our way across the world."
But, Quinlan didn't think it was worth it to teach sailing... until he was back in the rope.
"Really? The rope again?" Quinlan groaned.
The kids and ponies fist-bumped fist-to-hoof.
"You are bad kids." said Quinlan.
"Oh, shut up your whining." Myra said. "If you can talk, you can teach."
"Why don't the horse goddesses? They must've seen a million sailors do that."
"We don't know all the correct terminology," said Fantasia. "nor do we have fingers to properly demonstrate certain tasks."
So, reluctantly, Quinlan began teaching the kids to sail. Of course, they all had to learn. They needed their sleep, and according to Quinlan, a real wayfinder never sleeps. So, they slept in shifts to make sure they actually got where they needed to go.
