Our story begins in a big city kind of like the Big Apple, in a place called New Star City.
Now it's always once upon a time, in New Star City
It's a big old, bad old, tough old town, it's true
But beginnings are contagious there
They're always setting stages there
They're always turning pages there for you
Somewhere in this quaint city is the Kamino Orphanage, where today happened to be the most anticipated time of the month to the orphans who lived there: Adoption Day.
There were a lot of sweet, innocent children in that orphanage who needed loving families. For some reason, though, there seemed to be an awful lot of boys in the system. And among them now was only one girl. A pretty little blonde girl named Omega.
Ain't it great the way it all begins in New Star City
Right away, you're making time, and making friends
No one cares where you were yesterday
If they pick you out, you're on your way
To a once upon a time that never ends
Omega eagerly presented herself, trying to be noticed by those prospective parents looking to adopt a child in need. But no one picked Omega.
So Omega, don't be shy
Get out there and go and try
Believin' that you're the kind
of girl that they seek
'Cause a dream's no crime
Not once upon a time
Once upon a time in New Star City
Months went by, and little by little, more and more of the other kids got adopted, but not Omega. But Omega didn't give up looking for a family. Sadly, a lot of things happened, testing Omega's hope.
If it's always once upon a time in New Star City
Why does nightfall leave you feeling so alone
How could anyone stay starry-eyed
When it's raining cats and dogs outside
And the rain has said "now you're on your own"
One of the worst things to happen though, was the orphanage going bankrupt and being shut down. Fortunately, all the boys got adopted before then. But Omega remained unadopted. Now, she was all alone. Even the caretakers abandoned the poor girl, and with the orphanage being leased to another company, Omega was left to roam the streets alone.
So Omega don't be scared
Though yesterday no one cared
They're getting your place prepared
Where you want to be
Keep your dream alive
Dreaming is still how the strong survive
Once upon a time in New Star City
Omega walked down the street with only the clothes on her back. It was raining, and the orange hoodie she wore did not keep her dry. On the contrary, it only succeeded in making her even colder.
Keep your dream alive
Dreaming is still how the strong survive
Once upon a time in New Star City
Omega passed through an alleyway, hoping to find shelter somewhere. But instead, she ran into some vicious dogs who barked and growled and tried to attack her. Omega ran for her young life and climbed over a fence, just barely managing to escape.
Keep your dream alive
Dreaming is still how the strong survive
Once upon a time in New Star City
Omega ran and ran and ran until she found another abandoned building that hadn't even been sold yet. She went inside and found it to be intact. Inside, it turned out to be an abandoned hotel. She had a roof over head at least for tonight, and there happened to be a couch that was still intact as well.
Omega made herself comfortable on the couch and wiping tears from her eyes, she lay down and fell asleep.
And it's always once upon a time, in New Star City
And Omega slept the night away.
The next morning, Omega woke up to the sun shining on her face.
Omega sat up and stretched with a yawn. She rubbed her eyes and picked herself out of bed.
Omega exited the building and looked around the city. She saw lots of people around and thought maybe someone would be willing or able to help her. She was still an orphan, and there had to be at least one family out there who wanted her.
The young girl walked along the street and saw all kinds of people. She spotted one man dancing to music from his radio, and she started to dance too, hoping he would find her cute and fun. But then she lost him as she fell down onto her butt.
Omega also noticed a man meeting with a woman. So, she tried to get them to notice her, hoping they were a couple who wanted kids. But they just ignored her and walked away.
Omega started to look down, but then a little boy got curious about her and looked at her.
"Hello, there." said Omega.
But the boy's mother shooed the girl off and picked up her son.
"Get away, street rat!" said the mean mother, swinging her purse at the poor girl.
Omega ran into an alleyway.
"I was only saying hello!" Omega said.
Omega walked farther down the street and felt so down and alone.
Omega looked at her reflection in a store window and saw a mannequin with an awesome outfit, and there was a picture of a girl wearing that outfit while on an outing with her family. Omega placed her hand on the window with a sigh. She envied that girl in the picture so much. The clothes she had on were getting pretty old, and they were still a bit wet and getting smelly.
And now, Omega's stomach was growling. But she didn't have any money.
She smelled a very fragrant aroma as a guy pushing a hot dog cart came by and stopped at the corner.
Omega's stomach growled again. She was so hungry.
"What would I give just to have a little money?" she said quietly to herself.
Omega sat down and shivered, her stomach growling louder by the second.
However, Omega was surprised when she saw a hot dog being held toward her.
"Here, kid." said the nice man who'd just bought the hot dog. "You need this a lot more than I do."
Omega was surprised, but she accepted the food.
"Thank you." Omega said.
