A/N: Special thanks to all the people on Discord who helped me with this. I had multiple servers contribute. HearttoHato, author of one of my favorite fics, To Extinguish the son, was a huge help.
"ToƱito?"
"Yes, Milo?"
"Can you ask the snakes how they feel about not having legs?"
Camilo was seventeen when he had his wisdom teeth removed. The family spent weeks preparing themselves for the high. Julieta's food only worked on injuries, and he wouldn't be able to use his mouth during the procedure. So, they had to use strong pain medication and laughing gas. He now sat in Casita's living room, waiting for the high to go away.
"They want legs," Isabela said. "They only want your legs."
Isabela and Mirabel were enjoying every second of this. They were both recording their cousin from the moment he got home. "Antonio, when did you become a woman?" Camilo slurred.
"Give the snakes your legs," Mirabel joked. "You don't want the snakes to be sad, do you?"
"No," Camilo declared. "I'll cut them off now."
"No," Pepa said. A storm cloud was raging overhead. "You can't cut off your legs."
"But the snakes," Camilo said. He was starting to tear up.
"Your legs are too big," Pepa said.
"I'm going to make legs for snakes," Camilo announced.
"You do that," Isabela cheered. Camilo noticed the candle in the room. The candle that kept their home from crumbling to the ground. The candle that gave them their magical abilities.
"Pretty fire," Camilo said. He got up from the couch and walked towards the candle. Pepa stopped him.
"It's time for bed," Pepa practically growled.
The next day, Camilo knocked on Mirabel's bedroom door. The high finally wore off. Mirabel opened the door. "Good morning," she said.
"Good morning," Camilo greeted. "Did you get the video?"
"What kind of cousin would I be if I didn't get the video?" Mirabel asked.
