This fic takes place during Sora training for the Indigo Plateau Pokémon League, and after their experience in Hollow Bastion. Just to avoid any confusion if you have any. Also, this fic takes place between chapters 70 and 71.
We open up to Sora and Kairi having a fight with a Darkside. The giant Heartless tries to crush them both with its hands, but they were too quick for it.
"Kairi, hurry!" Sora called out.
"Sora!" Kairi exclaimed.
The couple jumped up and slashed the giant Heartless across the chest, destroying it.
"We did it," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"That Heartless didn't know what hit it," Sora said.
"That was the third Heartless attack this week. I don't think it was a coincidence," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"You don't think there could be a pattern that we're not seeing, is there?" Sora asked.
"Chu?" Pikachu asked.
"I don't know. Just a really bead feeling I'm having," Kairi said.
"Toge," Togepi chirped.
"I might just be imagining things," Kairi said.
"I hope you're right," Sora said.
Just then, Karen and Blossom came running up to the couple.
"Sora, Kairi!" Karen called out.
"Pikachu!" Blossom said.
The couple and their Pokémon saw Karen running up to them.
"Pika!" Pikachu said.
"What's up, Karen?" Sora asked.
"Professor Oak wants the both of you in his lab right now. Someone important just got there and asked to see you both," Karen said.
Sora and Kairi were wondering who could it be that asked them to meet with Professor Oak, and what could be so important. They knew there was only one way to find out.
Upon arriving they saw someone they didn't saw who they didn't expect to see. It was Teol, the wizard who taught Sora how to use his magic during their visit in Viridian Forest.
"Teol?" Sora and Kairi asked.
"Hello, children," Teol greeted. "I take it that the both of you have learned so much since I last saw you."
Sora figured Teol knew Kairi has a Keyblade, but he had to ask the question on his mind.
"If you were the one who wanted to see us, what's so important?" Sora asked.
"I see you're right to the point. I shall oblige you, Sora. I have felt a terrible disturbance, so I came to you to relay this information to you both," Teol said.
"What kind of disturbance are you sensing?" Kairi asked.
"The disturbance I have been sensing has a lot to do with the Heartless. They might be involved," Teol explained. He raised his hands and summoned a door before the couple.
"What's that?" Sora asked.
"That is a gateway into a place in another world called Traverse Town. That is where your journey will begin."
"Journey?" Kairi asked.
"Eevee?" Angel asked.
"Indeed. As you may have already guessed, there are many other worlds out there. And I fear that the Heartless are running loose in the worlds," Teol said.
"Then we will have to stop them," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu agreed.
"Wait a moment. I agree that the Heartless has to be stopped, but there is something you must know before you proceed. In each world you visit, there is a keyhole; the heart of the world. When you find it, one of you has to lock it with your Keyblades, and prevent the Heartless from destroying it," Teol said.
"You mean, the Heartless will do the same thing to the worlds just like Hollow Bastion?" Kairi asked.
"I'm afraid so, my dear. You must make certain that never happens," Teol said.
"Got it," Sora said.
"There is more. There are those who walks on the path of darkness, and I do not doubt they are already aware of your status as Keyblade wielders. I have a grave suspension that they're in control of the Heartless. And they will do whatever it takes to upset the balance of light and darkness. You must strike them down along with the Heartless. And there is more. You cannot tell anyone the existence of other worlds. There are those who have evil intent and try to conquer the worlds," Teol said.
"Does that mean, we can't tell them about Pallet Town or the Pokémon?" Sora asked.
"Precisely," Teol said. "When you arrive in Traverse Town, search for Setro. He will point you into the right direction. And that is all I can tell you."
"Hold on right there," Delia spoke. She, Karen, Professor Oak, Mirei, Yuta, Ventus, Terra, Aqua, and their Pikachu partners are standing at the doorway. "You should take these with you." She hands her son a bag of provisions.
"Also, you may need some of your Pokémon to assist you," Professor Oak said.
"That's a good idea," Sora said.
"Yeah, but I think I'll have to leave Togepi here," Kairi said.
"Toge?" Togepi chirped, almost sounding like a cry.
"You sure, Kairi? Ever since he hatched, you and him were inseparable," Sora said.
"I know, but I think this whole experience would be too dangerous for him. And I might lose him out there and everything," Kairi said.
"We understand, honey. It's best you leave Togepi with us," Yuta said.
"Togepi will be in capable hands," Mirei said.
"And your Pokémon Boxes shall be able to work even in other worlds," Professor Oak said. "I have come prepared for such an occasion ever since your experience in Hollow Bastion."
"That'll be handy," Sora said.
"Thank you, professor," Kairi said.
Sora and Kairi have chosen their Pokémon team very carefully. Sora has chosen Pidgeot, Dragonite, Venusaur, Blastoise, Charizard, Gengar, Golem, Alakazam, Machamp, Nidoking, and Nidoqueen with Pikachu as his ace Pokémon.
Kairi has chosen Raichu, Vileplume, Bellossom, Wigglytuff, Clefable, Jolteon, Vaporeon, Flareon, Leafeon, Glaceon, and Sylveon with Angel as her ace.
Once the couple had everything they needed, they were ready to take off for Traverse Town.
"Be careful out there, you two," Karen said.
"And good luck out there," Terra said.
"Pikachu," Thor said.
"Thanks, everyone," Kairi said.
"Don't forget to change your underwear, Sora!" Delia said.
"Mom!" Sora exclaimed as he blushed.
Pika" Pikachu said, laughing.
"Hey, don't laugh," Sora said.
"Chu," Pikachu said.
The couple walked up to the door. Sora looked at his girlfriend.
"You ready, Kairi?" Sora asked.
"Only when you are, Sora," Kairi said.
"Okay," Sora said, opening the door. They walked through the door and arrived into Traverse Town.
Sora and Kairi's adventures through various worlds have begun. Who knows what worlds they'll come across. They will make some new friends and fight some evil enemies along the way. May their hearts be their guiding key.
