On and on

Does anybody know what we are living for?

(Moulin Rouge)

After the Battle of Hogwarts- May 2nd, 1998

She couldn't let him die. Screw the laws of time magic. Screw messing with the future. She was not going to let Severus Snape die. Not on her watch. She wouldn't let any of them die on her watch. She had the ability to fix everything and it was just going back for two hours… a couple of times. There would always be a chance of all of the others dying anyway but Severus Snape was not going to die. "'Mione, come on we have to go see Fred…" Ron said, trying to get some reaction from her. Looking around the makeshift hospital she saw so much loss. So much pain. Harry was in front of the bodies of Remus and Nymphadora Lupin. The Weasley's were gathered around Fred who's shaky breathing was able to be seen from her spot near the door. There was so much loss in a place of healing.

She pulled the Time Turner out of her cloak and ran off from Ron, away from Death, running hopefully to be able to provide more life after this killer war. Turning back to the dungeon she raced down to start with the easiest.

She was supposed to stay hidden. She was supposed to not be seen but she didn't care. The trauma of all that she had been dealing with the past few months she had cracked. Looking all over the place she saw where the walls had come down. She saw where Percy, Fred, and George had been fighting a bunch of Death Eater's and the wall had fallen from a stray curse. Then landing on Fred. She Turned the Time Turner in half a turn and was sucked through the vortex of time.

She saw the walls of the dungeon around her. The fight was still going and the halls near Slytherin were full of those both seeking escape and looking for trouble. Loudly a redhead came into view, George, arms swinging trying to show the way for some younger Slytherin students seeing their robes. They were being driven towards the Potions Lab. Suddenly a boom shook the hallway and here come Percy and Fred riding brooms in the middle of the hallway shooting curses and blasting hexs backwards from deep within the bowels of Hogwarts. The children, now safely in the Potions Lab. Fred jumped off the broom and went side by side with George aiming randomly down the hallway. Percy pulled up and started throwing his own hexes. Noting the screams and activity down at the other end Hermione started throwing her own protections around the hallway and went towards them. Then BAM! There was the blasting curse that should have taken down the wall and there were the faces of Death Eaters that would've killed Fred, but none of that happened.

Instead it was four on six, four of them versus six Death Eaters. "Hello Granger."

"Always nice to see you." Fred and George said in a round, noticing her out of the corners of their eyes.

"I love you too, you two!" Hermione yelled while shooting a blast of blue flames out of the end of her wand taking two of the Death Eaters who were now screaming trying to get the fires off of them. "I see how it is, Sister, no love for Percy." Percy said as he walked over shooting off more and more curses. "I love you as well, Perce."

"Have to go." Hermione said as the last of the Death Eaters fell to a canary yellow spell from George's wand. "You guys stay safe." She said as she zipped out of the hallway and into the foyer.

Making her way out of the Grand Doors she raced into the battlefield. Carnage reigned. There were disemboweling, festering, vomiting, and other putrid curses flying throughout the air. Bellatrix and Mrs. Weasleys were fighting, throwing back and forth ugly sets of spells. Remus and Tonks were back to back fighting like professionals. No one was holding anything back; this was to the death for everyone. Tonks shot a disgustingly green spell out of her wand and Remus ducked a yellowish light. They were about to be overrun. Too many against their two. Fenrir and William Weasley were fighting not much farther ahead.

Sending spell after spell that wrapped the victims in silver chains. Hermione fought her way to others. Nothing could be seen past them, she was hyper focused on the world around her. She knew that Remus had killed Greyback in the final battle right before Tonks had been taken and that had gotten him distracted enough to have the Killing Curse aimed at him. She had to be faster. The werewolves that had been caught in the silver chained weight screamed while those who were of normal humanity just fought to get them off of them. Finally catching up to the mass of people fighting Hermione sent jets of an orange flesh eating acid hex overpowered into a group of foes.

There was an opening and Hermione jumped into the fray to back up William against the Alpha. He may not have been changed, but he had accepted the wolf so fully that his human form remained wolfish. Fenrir Greyback was a monster. The thing of nightmares is both muggle and magic. Hermione has not immersed herself in books for so long not to have learned something. Dark spells left and right flying from the tip of Hermione's vinewood wand. Many of them with effects specific to werewolves (all of which she thought should be restricted) helped her fight back against the man who lacked in power he made up for in a wide range of nasty spells. One of the silver chains that Hermione had sent out was wrapped around his left wrist sending the stench of burnt flesh wafting through the wind. It would have gagged her if the whole courtyard didn't smell the same or worse. She kept up with Bill pushing him back against the wall of the castle. Tonks and Remus came upon them and began their own vicious display of wand work. Taking turns back to back they kept changing from attacker to defender. Greyback finally went down. Fell by Remus' hand and a pretty foul severing charm. Nothing was thrown on either side of the fight for a moment, and then a great deal of the werewolves fighting for the Dark went off and quit fighting, running instead or Apperating through the damaged wards. That cut down on most of those fighting around the quartet. Shooting a bat-boogie curse at a nearby masked man who was picking a fight with Colin Creevey. She fled on down to the yard and the Whomping Willow.

Shooting a volley of spells running through the battle with only a singular thought in mind. 'She was not going to let someone die that deserved so much.' Yes, she knew what she was doing and she knew what she may go through because of this split decision. But, something within her knew that Severus Snape had to live.

Making her way to the entrance she quickly shot a minor powered freezing spell and she took off underneath the roots, like Alice falling into Wonderland. Coming up there she saw him, lying alone with blood oozing out of his mouth, his throat torn open and vicious. She was not a Healer, she was not trained or prepared for this. But, she had Dittany and the excess anti-venom that they had given Authur Weasley after his run in with the giant Horcrux.

Making her way into the Shrieking Shack she muttered a silencing spell of the house and a barrier from keeping anyone from interrupting. "Hello, Sir, it is Hermione Granger. Harry just informed us of what your memories held…" Tears started running down her face. "I know you didn'... don't… like me. But, I have some questions to ask you Sir." Pulling vials, potions, and even a syringe. "How are you so good at Potions?" She turned one vial labeled anti-venom upside down and stuck the syringe into the lid drawing up 15 ccs before jabbing the needle into his vein, fishing around until finally some blood came up into the barrel and she pushed down the plunger. Into the veins the medication went. Using her wand to magically weave his flesh wound on his throat, the antivenom already allows the tissues to be healed. All of a sudden she remembered that she hadn't given him a dose of Pain Potion. She looked up and there were Severus Snape's dark eyes staring down at her shaking his head against the potion. "I am so good at potions because…" He was talking slowly, gasping through the pain. "My Mother, before she met my father, wanted to be a potions mistress. Growing up she and I would hide and learn potions together." He hissed and paused but did eventually make the sentence out. Hermione listened wholly and proceeded to continue to repair his neck. "W-why did you have to hide?" She kept him talking, because other than the pain he had nothing else to focus on. He sighed, and she steadied her wrist movement when she began to reinforce facia. "The Potter boy and I have more… in kind than I will admit." He gasped and jerked his neck for a moment. "Stop moving or I will petrify you." He tried hard to pull a sneer from his lips but he gave up. "My father was an alcoholic who hated magic and the fact that Mother and I had it." He held his hand up and she paused as he leaned over and coughed and heaved. Rivulettes of blood flowed from his lips.

"He would try to beat it out of us." Hermione paused, and continued on to the next layer of muscle, "What job would you have chosen in a world without Voldemort?" She was hurting him more and needed him to talk as she examined the floating vitals that she had in front of her. " I would have the same job. Potions have always been my choice. What of yours Ms. Granger? Healing?" She laughed derisively, " No, I want to be an at home curse breaker." Finally his neck injuries were closed and he sat up and put a hand on his neck. "Thank you Ms. Granger." She tossed more than a few blood replenishing potions at him and a rock. The rock was a Portkey and he was startled as his hand clasped the rock.

She gasped and panted trying to catch her breath after going for so long running off of adrenaline. Severus Snape was fine. Of all the evil things she was going to fix, that was the most important.

So, she sat there so drained that she couldn't have moved if she needed to. She laid there on the blood encrusted floor wearing blood covered clothes. She reached into her purse and called for a pepper-up potion, as the fog disappeared from around her ears she sat up and waited for everything to be over with again.

Many cleansing charms and she felt kind of human again. After months on the run, then torture, then more on the run, and now battle, she felt a though the next time she bathed she would disolve away with the dirt.

She watched her wrist watch closely and eyed the second hand like a predator. As soon as 0855am hit she took off through the tree's roots and up above pressing the knot on keeping the tree still. She took off towards the Hospital Wing. Passing by bodies, burn marks, and anything else laying on the ground in the morning's light. Cutting through corridors half blown in and stairs that moved. She made it as Ronald turned around and went toward his family on the other side of the room. She looked around and there were still many people down forever. But, there were some standing up that warmed every part of her soul.

Colin Creevey and his brother Denis taking pictures from wheelchairs going around the room. Fred and George were holding each other and looking around. Ginny was sitting down next to Percy who had a bandage wrapped around his eye. Harry was sitting between Remus and Tonks holding onto them so closely. Walking around she saw Narcissa and Draco Malfoy handing out potions, water, triaging the patients and light healing on Draco Malfoy's part.

She quickly made her way to Harry who was happily sitting with bandages on his body and hands crossed in his lap. "Harry, I have to go! I have something important to do! I'll send a Patrunus okay. I love you little brother." Then Hermione apparated to her home through the thin wards around Hogwarts, and headed to where she stored Professor Snape.
