A Rio Restart:
What If Only One Remembered? Part 1
(Jewel's Side) A long time ago, far away in the city of Rio de Janeiro, there was a young blue macaw named Jewel. She was known to be a very spirited bird, always happy being free and living wild in the jungle. Especially with her family, which was her husband, best friends, and three children. But somehow, she ended up back in time, in the first week she met her husband and didn't know it.
She was currently stuck in February 2010 and was inside the artificial jungle room at the bird hospital. Originally, she tried escaping the room but was then instead laying down in the hollow of a fake tree. She thought she was only separated from her husband, because of some project or something. Jewel waited a long time for him to come back, and since he hadn't returned yet, she ended up being sad. So she just decided to occupy herself by being lazy inside a tree. Making herself not lose hope but wondered just how long it would take for her husband, Blu, to come back.
Suddenly, after thinking she would wait much longer, she heard a sound.
"LINDA!"
It was Blu's voice and hearing it surprised Jewel to the max. But instead of charging toward him, she wanted to be sure. She zoomed across the room and hid behind a few trees before seeing that it was him. And seeing him in the breeding chamber with her reminded her of when they first met. So through the feeling of excitement, Jewel smiled and decided to make a big entrance.
"Uh…I come in peace." Blu said in a nervous tone, because he was in a strange room, hoping to see Jewel and that things between them would go well. However, unlike Jewel, he wasn't expecting a reunion. In fact, he never really knew her like she already knew him. And as soon as Blu went further, he saw someone above the light. It was Jewel and seeing her like that made Blu say, "Whoa. She's beautiful." He saw how pretty she looked and became attracted to her. "What were they talking about? She's…she's like an angel. An angel who's getting really close." But saw that Jewel attacked him.
However, when he feared it was out of hostility, Jewel only rammed right into him and they both rolled around until Blu was on the ground, and Jewel on top of him. But unlike last time, Jewel wasn't standing on him or had her talon on his throat. Instead she was laying on top of him, which surprised Blu, and then she hugged him while crying, "Blu! Oh Blu!" She was really crying and tightly embracing him.
Blu was having trouble processing this unexpected moment. He was the same Blu from 2010, expecting to meet Jewel and would eventually marry her if their friendship worked. But then he saw that she suddenly came at him like she knew him already. And as if things couldn't get more interesting, Jewel raised her head and gave Blu a passionate kiss. Linda and Tulio were watching them kiss from the security room.
"Wow. That was fast." Said Linda.
Tulio replied, "I'll say. I guess Jewel really likes the company. We should probably give them privacy." So they left the room, and talked about them staying for the night.
When they left, Jewel's beak was still pressed to Blu's and while it surprised the nervous bird to the core, it felt good to him and he let it happen until Jewel broke it. She nuzzled her beak to his and was still crying tears of joy. She enjoyed her moment with him, and while Blu liked it also, he decided to break the silence.
"Wow." He said in a gushy tone. Then shook his head. "Uh…hi. H-H-Have we met?" He said, feeling nervous and confused.
Jewel was surprised and said with a chuckle, "What? What do you mean, 'have we met?' Blu, it's me, Jewel."
"Oh. I-I know your name but what I mean is have we met before? Because I just met you today, yet you kissed me. Also, how do you know my name?"
"What?" Jewel was indeed surprised by her husband's behavior. So she got off of him and helped him up. Then she said, "Blu, what are you talking about? You've known me for almost as long as we've been married. I'm your wife."
"M-M-My wife?" Blu stuttered and instantly felt sweaty.
"Blu, don't pretend you don't remember me."
"I'm not pretending. Really, this is my first time meeting you and I really don't know what you're talking about. M-Maybe you must have confused me with someone else."
"Oh no. I'm not confused with anything. I am totally aware of what my one and only looks like. And if you're being serious then how did I know what your name was? Not only that…" She began to make a flirting smile and hugged him tight again while looking directly at him. "…why would I instantly hug and kiss someone I just met? Hmm? Blu, you and I have been together for a long time, and to this day I've still been in love with you. More than you are still with me, right?"
Blu made a nervous chuckle to her words, and Jewel said, "And see that? You made that exact same laugh when we first met. You made that laugh almost every time I'd flirt with you. And there's so much more about you that I already know, Blu."
Blu gulped and gently escaped from Jewel's embrace before saying, "Okay, Jewel. If you really know me and are not mistaking me for your real husband then tell me everything you do know about me. Because what you're telling me right now isn't good enough."
Jewel became surprised again and started to get annoyed with him, thinking that he was just playing some kind of mind game. So she said with a humph, "Fine. You want to hear what I know, then here it is:"
Your full name is Tyler Blu Gunderson.
You love having six marshallows in your hot chocolate, or as you like to call it "the perfect marshmallow to cocoa ratio."
Your favorite breakfast is pancakes and you don't like nuts.
Before you met me, your best friend in the world was always Linda, who I know for a fact is a human, and I know you're not a pet. You're a companion. And there's more.
You hated living in the jungle because you were used to having a domestic life and had forgotten what your life was like before meeting Linda.
You live in Minnesota, in a small town called Moose Lake. You used to watch Animal Planet, you read books, you're able to communicate with humans by writing. And I also know that one of your favorite music artists is Lion Teach.
As soon as Jewel finished giving every word she needed to start with, she saw Blu just sitting down with a frozen face because he was left astonished. He thought Jewel was joking with him or that she was crazy. But instead, she proved she wasn't and knew that there was no way she was making her story up or someone would've told her. But the look on his face did confuse Jewel.
Blu said, "Jewel, I think you're…"
Then Jewel said, "Wait, and for the final touch, I remember that one of the best things you ever told me since we got married was that if we ever had a daughter, you always wanted to name her Bia. And we did."
At that point, Blu did believe her.
"Whoa." He said, "Okay, Jewel, you've convinced me. But I don't get it. You say we're married, but I've never met you. Yet, you know everything about me. How is this possible? And about that last part…I never told anyone that in my life. Not even Linda."
Jewel was still annoyed with what she assumed was an act. But as she wanted to say something else, she took a good look in Blu's eyes, and saw his nervous face. He looked the same as he did when they first met, completely anxious and unsure. Making her slowly say, "You…you're telling the truth? You really don't know who I am?"
"No." Blu said in a kind manner. "I'm sorry, Jewel, but I don't. But I know that you know me. If it's any consolation, I believe what you told me was true." He tried to be nice, but Jewel looked sad and disappointed, not knowing why Blu didn't know her.
Then Blu realized something. "Jewel, from what you said, can you tell me exactly how long we have been married and what date it was when we started?"
Jewel lifted her head up again and tried to think. "Um…I think, from what you taught me about time…you and I have been married for over six years. I can remember the date actually being March 14, 2010. A whole month after you and I met. It was on the same day as Linda and Tulio's wedding, and the week before we were released into the jungle. Our wedding and move in together, those were two of the happiest days of my life."
Blu said, more surprised, "Wow. Uh, Jewel. I don't know how to tell you this, but…today is February 12, 2010."
"What?"
"It's 2010, and if you're saying that we've been married for six years, then that means…you're from the future."
"From the future?" Jewel started to chuckle. "Blu…you can't be serious."
"I'm not kidding. You've convinced me that you know everything about me, and yet this is my first time meeting you. I'm not one to believe in science-fiction or know how you did it but…somehow you've traveled back to the past, to the week when we first met."
Jewel shook her head, thinking it sounded crazy, but then she paused. She was processing what Blu said, and the more she thought about it, the more it made sense, and Jewel still looked into Blu's eyes. Every word he said was the truth.
Which made her say in a sad tone, "Blu…if…if what you're saying is true then…you not only don't remember me, you also don't remember the times we've spent together. And…Carla, Bia, and Tiago…" Tears fell out of her eyes, and when Blu saw he felt totally bad for her. She continued saying, "Our kids…you don't remember them. And they don't even exist. Do they?"
"O-Our kids? We had kids?"
"Yes." She sniffled. "We had kids. And they're not here anymore. And…you're not the same Blu that I know. I don't know who you are." Then she started to cry and flew off to another part of the room to be alone.
She sobbed, and Blu felt terrible, not knowing what to do but hoped she would be okay.
A few hours later, while the two were still in the cage together, there was something going on in the building, regarding two folks that were up to no good.

• "Lion Teach": Aka Lionel Reech, whose real name I didn't know if I could fully use due to the website's rules.
Hello again my fellow readers and story writers! How are you all doing today? Pardon me if you were waiting to hear something from me for so long, but thank you for your patience. I hope you are reading the many stories/chapters I already shared, plus the posts I'm making on DeviantArt and Twitter. In fact, what did you think of that chapter?
As I wrote in this series' plot, "Some Rio Changes" is about "A small collection of Rio stories that go over just a few alternate events of my making." These specifically go over: "What if it was only Blu or Jewel who noticed the Restart? What if Blu was a mute? What if Eduardo, Mimi, and Roberto weren't Jewel's long-lost family?"
That, and more. Now over the years, I know everyone has made their fanfictions that focus on the alternative events of the two Rio movies, and I'm doing it too…again. It's something that seems pretty fun to do, especially with how good the "What If…?" subject has been for me lately. However, to Alexriolover95, I remember you once published a series called "Alternate Takes." I never got to read it and I don't remember if I came up with this before or after noticing it existed. If you and everyone are interested, I am going to make this series about my alternate takes. It focuses on my stories, plus other ideas. Also, I have not forgotten about what you said, I only wanted to point that out. But there will be one more important note regarding this.
While I intended on publishing this series on FFN, I later decided to turn this into a transcript series which will take place on DeviantArt. Why? One, it seems easier, and two, I already have another full series called "Sonic the Hedgehog(s)" that focuses more on "What If…?" Tales. That's also one of the reasons, so far, why I'm not making the idea "Some Changes" which talks about all my favorite stories. So anyway, that's how it's gonna go, but since I already finished some chapters for this, I'll still be publishing them here. That includes this one, and a few more. After that I'll be continuing the series on DeviantArt.
Please let me know if you guys enjoy these. And look at Ch2 for the responses I wanted to make for the recent feedback you guys shared.
