Alright! This is the first chapter of Power in the Wrong Hands! I hope you all enjoy it, and thank you everyone for the wonderful and creative OCs! I'm still deciding on the chosen kit (remember, it can be any of the kits not in Cliffclan) and our other main character(s). There will be at least one POV in each clan, with Heatherkit serving as the Cliffclan POV. I tried to include a lot of OCs in this chapter, so hopefully you see one of yours!

The brush of a tail tickled Heatherkit's nose, causing her to wake up. She sat up in her best to see Stormbright looking down at her. "Good morning Heatherkit," the black and gray queen smiled. You slept in late this morning, so I'd thought I'd wake you up. Rosekit and Mintkit are playing outside if you want to join them."

It had been one moon since Heatherkit had joined Cliffclan, and two moons since her mother had been killed. Grassflower had often given Heatherkit poppyseeds to help her sleep when the nightmares got to be too much. There was always so much blood and the badger was always standing over her mother's corpse, snapping at Heatherkit, its jaws aiming for her throat…

She shuddered at the thought of her bad dreams. Stormbright had taken it upon herself to make Heatherkit feel welcome in Cliffclan. She had quickly introduced Heatherkit to her own kits, who were about Heatherkit's age, and was always encouraging them to play together. She was a kind, motherly she-cat and Heatherkit appreciated her efforts, but Stormbright could never replace her real mother. Heatherkit decided to go out and see what Rosekit and Mintkit were doing. Those two were practically joined at the hip.

As usual, the two sisters were playing a game with one another that looked very complex and that only the two of them could understand. "Hey, what are you guys playing?" Heatherkit asked.

"Oh, hey Heatherkit!" Mintkit greeted the pale ginger she-kit, "We're just continuing the game we started a quarter moon ago. You want to join us?" Mintkit had a hopeful gleam in her eyes.

"Sure," Heatherkit nodded. She normally preferred to be by herself, but she would occasionally play with Stormbright's kits. Grassflower said that playing with kits her own age was good for her "mental development," whatever that meant. Heatherkit didn't mind Cliffclan, it was a fine place to live. She just didn't like why she was in Cliffclan. An image of her body mother's corpse flashed in her mind and she froze.

"Heatherkit, are you okay?" Rosekit asked, obviously concerned, "You don't have to play with us if you don't want to."

Heatherkit just nodded, and walked off with her limbs shaking. She sat on a warm rock that had been heated up by the sun and took deep breaths to try to calm herself down. She repeated the mantra Grassflower had told her to say when she was upset. It's okay, I am safe, it's okay, I am safe…

Vinefrost must have noticed how upset she was, because he had stopped talking to Sweettail and Swiftpaw about the best hunting crouch to use when stalking a mole and had begun to walk over to Heatherkit. "You alright kiddo?" he said as he sat down next to her and wrapped her small frame with his big, fluffy tail.

"I was just thinking about it- the incident- again," Heatherkit sighed, having finally gotten herself under control. Vinefrost had agreed to call her mother's death the incident, since decribing what had happened had the potential to send Heatherkit into a panic attack.

"Do you need to talk about it?" Vinefrost asked, his voice low and comforting. Heatherkit shook her head, but she leaned in to Vinefrost's large, fluffy body. She looked out at her clanmates. She saw Sweettail laughing at some joke Swiftpaw had made. Leafcatcher was coming back from a hunting patrol and put the biggest rabbit Heatherkit had ever seen on the fresh-kill pile, along with four mice. Beetlechase and Gorsefoot came in after her, each carrying decent, but less impressive amounts of prey.

She saw Rootkit talking to Grassflower outside the medicine den, which was a large, dry cave in the side of one of the sandy cliffs that enclosed the camp. A small tunnel through the cliffs led to the meadow that made up the rest of Cliffclan territory. "Do you mind if I go talk to Rootkit?" Heatherkit asked Vinefrost.

"Of course not," the tom purred. He padded over to the fresh-kill pile and grabbed one of the fresh mice the hunting patrol had just brought back. Swiftpaw was taking the large rabbit to Stormbright, Rosekit, and Mintkit. Icestrike, the deputy, walked over to share the meal with his mate and kits. The deputy gave Vinefrost a weird look, mostly because he was Mistlebird's "crush of the moon" as Eagletalon liked to put it. It wasn't exactly a secret that Icestrike wanted to see his daughter settle down and be happy, but she was very aloof and non-committal.

Heatherkit walked over and greeted Rootkit, who was asking Grassflower about various herbs again. "Hey Rootkit," she smiled at the tom. He nodded at her in greeting. "Whatcha learning about today?"

"Well, this is borage. It helps queens produce milk, brings down fevers, and relive stomach aches." Rootkit huffed proudly.

"Very good Rootkit!" Grassflower gushed. The tom was being groomed to be the next medicine cat apprentice, and he often willingly spent his free time in the den helping Grassflower sort herbs. He was like Cliffclan's unofficial medicine cat apprentice, at least until he was six moons old. Rootkit told Heatherkit about a few more herbs, but she got bored and wandered off to play with Rosekit and Mintkit. Mintkit was Mintstar, the mighty leader of Cliffclan, and Rosekit was Rosestar, the evil leader of Stoneclan. Heatherkit watched the two sisters wrestle and joined in their game as Heatherstar, the leader of Runningclan. Rootkit always pretended to be a medicine cat when he played with them. The three she-kits laughed and played for the rest of the day until Stormbright called them in to go to sleep.

So, this chapter is a bit shorter than what I normally like to write, but I didn't want to drag it out. Hope you all like our introduction to Cliffclan and my little, traumatized Heatherkit. I still need more warriors for the other Clans to serve as mentors, and I really need leaders for Cliffclan and Stoneclan to be able to do apprentice ceremonies. Thanks for reading, and leave a review!
