Prompt: Beast Boy and Raven raking up leaves and jumping into them.
Autumn
Raven resorts to throwing her rake at him. Unfortunately, he shifts into a squirrel and it flies right over him. "Dodging makes me angrier," she warns, almost shaking a fist at him before stopping herself.
He shifts back, holding up placating hands. "Okay, I'm sorry! I'll rake."
"Please do not kill each other!" They both turn to find Starfire watching them from where she and Robin are raking several yards away. "I do not wish to take on your share of the chores!"
Cyborg cackles from his station on the other side of them.
Raven uses her powers to return her rake to her hand. "Then stop pairing us together."
"No one paired you," Robin argues, raking leaves with perhaps more aggression than is really called for. "In fact, please separate."
That's right. Robin declared a need to rake the park and that was it - no assigned partners. So why is Beast Boy practically glued to her side right now? She turns an accusatory glare on him, but he just grins and winks at her. She doesn't mind these random public services Robin has them do when crime is especially low, but she'd rather they split up to do things on their own. She could rake and they could all go do other things.
Or, they could all rake except for Beast Boy. Who could find something to do in a different country from her.
Since it seems he isn't going to leave her space, she drags her rake towards the pond. Honestly, she expects him to follow, but he doesn't. For the first time since they got here, she's able to round up leaves in peace. Actually, there's a nice rhythm she finds to this. It's quite soothing.
Once she's accumulated a pile of leaves that comes up to her hip, she stands back and admires it, quite proud. It took a while, and it required some use of her powers to transfer leaves from further areas, but it's a nice pile of leaves. Then she feels ridiculous, because it's a pile of leaves.
Then, it's a pile of leaves into which she's just been pushed.
Pulling leaves out of her hair and hood, she surfaces to the sound of Beast Boy's grating laughter. Astonished, she whips her head towards her other teammates to see if they witnessed that. Robin's face rests in his palm, but Cyborg and Starfire stare back like she and Beast Boy are performing Shakespeare in the Park.
So, no help there. She takes that as license to maim Beast Boy.
Launching herself from the once-neat-pile of leaves, Raven's fingers latch onto his shoulders. The momentum sends Raven flying back to the ground, except this time Beast Boy's back meets solid ground and Raven's soft landing is him instead of her immaculate pile of leaves. His laughter cuts off suddenly with a noise of surprise, but the moment they've landed he's aware enough to shift into a mink and dive into the pile of leaves.
Raven scrambles after him, digging through the pile to find the dumb animal. Before she can find him, he shifts back, grabbing her arms and pulling her face down into the pile with him. She rolls over onto her back and is in the process of sitting up when he takes a handful of leaves and tosses them so that they float down onto her face.
She blinks, staring cross eyed at a small yellow leaf that's perched on her nose. Then, surprising everyone on the team, including herself, she laughs.
It's not much. It's soft, and it doesn't last long, but it's enough to stretch a ridiculous smile on the face of the changeling next to her. He fists two heaps of leaves, tossing them above their heads as he flops back to watch them fall. Raven tilts her head back, and the falling leaves are actually stunning. Annoying as Beast Boy is, this is actually kind of entertaining.
But, she's supposed to be mad at Beast Boy for shoving her into the leaves to begin with. His eyes are closed now, and altogether he's sunk to the bottom of the pile. He's covered in leaves, and he looks as content as she's ever seen him. She hesitates, and then lays down, letting her body sink into the pile. It's actually… nice. She's never played in leaf piles before.
Using her powers, she tosses leaves up and lets them rain gently onto her and Beast Boy. This continues for about thirty seconds before she's completely covered by a sudden dump of leaves. A moment after she's managed to dig her way to the top of the pile, Beast Boy's head pops up next to her. Their teammates circle them, tossing leaves around and completely obliterating the remains of Raven's pile.
Turns out, Raven can't be upset, and she doesn't even care to find out who just buried her and Beast Boy. She joins them in gathering the leaves back up, dives in with them, throws fistfuls of crinkly leaves with them. It's juvenile, and silly, and people are staring, but it's fun. Nothing shatters or explodes, the earth doesn't open up and swallow her whole. Up until now she can honestly say she was a little worried it might. Even she, stoic, monotone demoness, isn't immune to wanting a little fun. Now that Beast Boy's literally dragged her into it, she's discovered maybe it's okay to indulge every now and then.
So, for now, she'll forego any revenge for pushing her into the leaf pile.
Though, next time she may not be so lenient.
