Travis and Amy Fan-fiction (Mystery 101)

It was a cloudy Friday afternoon, a storm was rolling in. It had been a long week and Amy couldn't wait for the weekend. Seated at her desk at the college, she tried to stay focused. But she couldn't, distracted, she kept checking her phone to see if Travis had text her. But nothing. Travis had been so busy in the last few weeks. He was working on a case that he won't tell her about. But she couldn't blame him because she hadn't exactly been available recently either. One of her colleagues had been seriously ill and Amy picked up her classes. And life was just plain busy. But still, Amy was missing Travis and working cases with him. Shaken out of her thoughts by a knock on the door, Amy welcomes in a delivery boy who drops off a mystery package. Written out on the top was "for Professor Amy Winslow - my consultant". Quickly, Amy tore off the brown wrapping paper. Inside was "The Murders in the Rue Morgue"
by Edgar Allan Poe. Instantly, Amy melted. He still remembered. The day that Amy and Travis met, Claire (Travis's old partner) told him about the story although Travis said he didn't remember all the details of the story but he definitely did remember meeting Amy. Nestled inside the pages of the special edition was a handwritten note. "Amy, I'm sorry I have been so busy. But this case should be wrapped up pretty soon and I was wondering if you like to have dinner tonight at Sterling's Steakhouse. I have reservations and I can pick you up at 7. Love, Travis." Immediately, Amy picked up her phone and called Travis to accept his invitation.

A few hours later

Amy was checking her hair one last time, fixing a stray curl. Suddenly her phone started vibrating, picking it up and she saw it was Travis. [Amy] Hey, Travis I'm almost ready. [Travis interrupts] Yeah, Amy, I'm sorry but something has come up and I'm going to be a little late. [Amy] Where are you? [Travis] Well, it's complicated but there is something I have to do - [Amy] Travis !?- [Travis] but don't worry I'll be fine and be there soon - [Amy] But, Travis, I- [Travis] like I said don't worry, I'll be there soon, Love you - abruptly hangs up.

{For the record, the best way to get somebody to worry is to say not to worry.}

A little bit later

A black SUV pulls up to an abandoned warehouse on the old side of town. Travis steps out striding toward the old outbuilding. The homicide detective mulled over the details of the case. He was stopping by on an impulse, there were errors made in the collection of evidence on file at the station. There were just a few things that didn't make sense. the inconsistencies were nagging him all day and he decided to stop over quickly before his date with Amy tonight. He should have just told her about the case she could have helped him but she already had a lot on her plate and the case was almost wrapped up. But still, she was brilliant and it didn't hurt that she was his amazing girlfriend. He wanted to take it to the next level but wanted to make sure he did it at the right time and place. Months prior, he had picked out an exquisite ring and asked Graham for permission (which Graham wholeheartedly gave) but the timing never seemed right. Anyway, he needed to focus on the case and clear up the confusion so he could be one hundred percent present with her at dinner tonight. CRASH. Suddenly a thud was heard inside the nearby warehouse.

Meanwhile on the other side of town

A mildly panicked Amy called the police station. Everyone down at the station knew about Travis & Amy and how much Travis trusted her. Amy attempted to casually ask Maria where Travis was headed giving the rather weak excuse that they were supposed to meet up and that Travis neglected to give the location. Maria said she didn't know for sure but the best bet would be the crime scene on the south side of town and gave her the directions to it. Hopping in her Subaru, she sets out to track her boyfriend down.
