Disclaimer: The TMNT belongs to their right owners, not me. I just write stories for fun.

A/N: Was aiming for this story to be published around the end of July, before the movie premiered, y'know, as a way of celebration.

It's /checks calendar/ not July anymore. Hm.

Of beautiful skies and cups of milk.

Chapter 1. Prologue

There's one important lesson about life Donnie is constantly reminded of. The lesson being: sometimes, things won't go as you originally planned them.

And in Donnie's life, sometimes actually means… most of the time.

Take for example that time when he joined the Purple Dragons. He got to show off his babies, got accepted in a high school (yeah, you heard it right, fellas, high school) club, and, most importantly, he got a fabulous jacket! (A jacket that looked awesome on him, Donnie must add).

Everything was like a dream come true!

... until the Purple Dragons turned out to be a bunch of criminals, that is.

So, joining a tech club? Didn't go as planned.

Oh! Or remember that time when he soundproofed both the Tank and the garage? He thought that by doing so he wouldn't bother his family whenever he worked there.

It had seemed like a good idea…

… until he and his family got trapped in the Tank and weren't able to call for help.

Again, not as planned.

Or more recently, that other time when he tried to help the people from Witch Town and he ended up in jail?

Yeah, you guessed it. Not as planned.

So, yup. Donnie is fully aware of the fact that things won't always go exactly as he plans them.

And, well…

KA-BOOM!

A colorful avalanche of ice cream and soap foam erupted from Donnie's lab, expanding and covering everything on its way, with four turtles rolling and tumbling over and over inside it.

…this is one of those times.

Donnie blinked repeatedly as he slid across the atrium's floor on his back.

Huh, who would've guessed it? Homeschooling wasn't as easy as he first thought it'd be, but!

A glint of determination shone in Donnie's eyes as a smile spread on his face.

He's gonna make it work, or his name isn't Othello von Ryan!

Author's notes:

September 12th, 2022.

A big thanks to the mods of the Mad Dogz Zine Vol. 2 for giving me the opportunity to collaborate on this fan project as a writer.

Likewise, I want to express my sincere appreciation and extend my warmest thanks to 130G for collaborating with me and for creating such a wonderful illustration for this fic. You can check it out on their blog: candlesofthebog . tumblr . com

My recommendation? Check out the fanzine if you haven't already! It's full of marvelous illustrations and fantastic stories made by awesome artists and writers. Hats off to them. They've got talent, I kid you not. You can find it on the official fanzine: mad-dogz-zine . tumblr . com

You can also find me on tumblr as zinony, where I'll be talking about Rise of the TMNT, about this fanfic, and maybe posting some art or doodles. (There's not much to see right now, though, but hopefully I'll be starting posting soon).

About this story:

Even though 'Of beautiful skies and cups of milk' was written and published a year ago, the idea for this story dates back to 2018, before the series (or the trailer) premiered. Back then I had my headcanons, some of which were proven wrong once I began watching the series about... wait /actually pays attention to today's date 2 years ago? Time sure flies, huh?

Anyway. The core of this story has its roots in 2018, but it was only after watching the show that this story took the shape and form that has now. This version, however, will be different from the fanzine one since it will take another turn of events and will be closer to the original picture I had planned for the fanzine.

I hope you enjoy it!
