The bright morning shines through the slightly opened window, into the young pinkette's room. She finally got up and sighed. She dressed in her uniform and cape as a second year. Louise de la Vallière, youngest daughter of house Vallière, but in the Academy… she is known as—
"Louise the Zero," A soft female voice spoke, the young mage turned with a glare to see Kirche von Zerbst, the tanned-skinned redhead Nobel of Germania. By her side was Tabitha, a prodigy student with a quiet aura. "How are you doing on this fine morning?" She smiled and leaned down to speak with Louise.
"What is it that you want, Zerbst?" She glared up as she had a full view of that damn bust she flaunts. "If you come to mock me, then leave me alone." Zerbst gave a playful pout at such a sharp tongue from the small girl.
"Come now, I only wanted to see how my fellow classmate is feeling before causing a crater during this upcoming ceremony," She giggled as Tabatha mere read her massive book. "Come now, you can't even properly cast basic dots to spell without risking everyone's lives." She certainly poked the small bear now. This is the reason behind her nickname; she has zero affinity for magic, not even to fire even though her only magical act is an explosion. "I'm just trying to watch out for you and the others." Louise was fuming now.
"Shut up, you cow!" She was now mad, she hated how she was looked down upon. "I will prove that I'm worthy of the name of Vallière, that I belong to the school, and prove you wrong!" She stomped off to go to her classes.
"Pushed it," The light blue-haired girl spoke.
Kirche sighs. "She needs the push, or she'll just give up." The two soon walked off for classes.
Today was certainly not my day. I, a humbled traveler of the stars, who only wished to see and study in peace, had to run into pirates.
"Direct hit to the hull, explosive rounds." An artificial voice spoke into my mind. I groaned as I looked around my wasp ship, seeing a fire in the galley. Annoyed, I gave my command.
"Send unit 3 to put out the fire," My deep voice commanded. "have Unit 2 prepare for the next arcane bolt fire." I sat back as I mentally viewed the Damselfly Ship behind my vessel. I grimaced as I watched my crew, or really, constructs of mine, toil away. I viewed the back of the ship to see my foes start to load another bombshell into that mangonel.
"Give up, bookworm!" The pirate captain shouted out with a booming voice. The only spell that can do that is Thaumaturgy. Meaning, either a divine soul sorcerer, tiefling, or… cleric. The female captain on the ship was indeed a cleric, the flag bore a skull and the black mask of the God of Thieves, the Shadowflea, Mask. A Maskarran leading pirates. "You should've handed over those goods while you could." She cackled. "Either give up your scrolls and special bottles or be food for the astral sea!"
"Such a foul tongue," was my only comment. "Allow me to show you my true skill then." I forced the ship to sail faster than ever. I pulled out my wildspace orray. I quickly gazed and smirked. I forced my ship to pitch into a near ninety-degree angle! As mad it was, I shall be really testing my skill as a navigator this time around.
"Warning, incoming dead god debris and gravity wells," the system warned me. "Advice: lower pitch before—"
"Advice declined," I interrupted. "Focus on firing on the ship behind us." I had to plan heavily ahead for this. With each pull and twist through this timeless domain, I was edging near the abyssal vortexes to help juke and speed my ship. To make this worse, I had to dodge the petrified remains of dead gods. "By the stars, this is certainly not a good day for me."
The pirates dare not forfeit the prey and followed me through this hellish domain. As we sailed and battled, I was not much of a man of prayers, I believed in the stars and magic, but for once I was hoping for a miracle.
Today was the day: The Familiar Spirit Summoning Exam. Jean Colbert was supervising and assessing the magic affinity of all the students who had gone. The most remarkable was Tabatha and her summoning of a Rhyme dragon. He looked at his students. "Has everyone gone?" He looked over.
Young Louise tried to shrink back, but a student arrogantly shouted, "Louise the Zero hasn't gone, professor!" There was a round of giggles and jeers. She glared and tightened her grasp on her wand.
"Enough, students," He said with a stern gaze, but even he had some doubts. "Louise de la Vallière, please step forward please." She was hesitant but carried herself with her pride as a noble and mage.
"What do you think she might summon?"
"I bet it's gonna be a rat."
"No way, a rat has a use!"
"The poor thing might explode when it appears."
"Rather not be in the splash zone then."
She pushed all those comments out of her mind and cleared her mind. 'I'll show them all that I am worthy of being here!' She focused her power and stood in the center of it all. To her, she felt the gazees like a circus performer, but she tried her best to see it as a chance to prove to these fools that she is a mage.
I was running out of paths to take, the vortexes were getting closer to each other! I couldn't slow down and risk another exploding shell. The pirates were catching up. Was this really my end? "By the constellations, by Ophiuchus, give me a sign!" I roared out, and I slowly let my hot burn away.
"My servant that exists somewhere in the universe!" A young girl's voice echoed in my head. I looked around. I was certain no other person was on this ship. When I returned to my view outside, I saw… a brilliant green star in the distance! No… a color pool! Wait, the green is odd, I cannot tell if that shall take me to the Feywilds or the Beastlands!
"Units, all propulsion straight!" I commanded as the vessel sailed faster! I got up from my seat as I rushed to the cargo hold. I grabbed up my bag of holding and started to fill them with the prize of the pirate's greed: shrunken ships. I filled them up and started to rush for the Main deck. As I passed through the ship, I made sure to grab one last item… a scroll with heavy seals.
"My divine, beautiful, and powerful familiar!" The voice grew louder as I neared the pool. This is a horrible idea, going into the unknown, but my mentor told me that the unknown is just knowledge yet discovered. That crazy Dragonborn!
"Ukrypt!" I roared the command as the ship started to shrink and compress into a bottle. This was the most dangerous part being in a gravity well field! Once it vanished from under my boots, I saw the bottle float before me and snatched it. I held my breath and allowed the momentum to launch me toward the pool. The last thing in my view as I hugged the bags close to me was a mix of enraged, awe-stricken, and shocked faces of the pirates. I grinned widely.
"I wish and assert from the bottom of my heart, answer my guidance!" I felt a soft aura envelop me as I felt my body magically vaulted off!
There was a massive explosion as everyone scattered. As the smoke bloomed and spread out, there were jeers and laughs instantly.
"Louise Zero, always a zero!"
"Goodness, how did she even get in?"
"A danger really!"
"That is quite enough!" Cobalt sternly shouted as he checked for any injured students. "Lady Louise, are you—" He froze as he looked up to see… a being. A seven-foot figure. Even though it was dressed in heavy dark blue robes, the defined and robust muscles could still be seen. Where the sleeves were short showed mighty hands, skin like that of moss of a swamp, coal hair combed back, sterling silvery-blue irises, and tusks similar to a boar with that underbite! Louise was on the ground in shock at such a gigantic figure. Did she summon this… giant?!
"D-did Vallière summon that brute?"
"Why is it dressed like a scholar?"
"Is it some poor transmuted commoner?"
"Magic," Tabatha spoke up and Kiche looked down. Before she could question it, the green Barbarian made a guttural rumble in its throat. It was.. clearing its throat?
"Nalkra ij odd tok," A deep voice, gravely, similar to fabled giant voices. The students backed away as the figure looked confused.
"W-well," Professor Cobalt fixed glasses and composed himself. "As this is the Familiar Spirit Summoning Exam, Ms. Vallière, please finish the ritual."
"P-professor, s-surely I can try again!" She hated the idea of such a brute being her familiar, it was nothing compared to her incantation!
"I am sorry, but this is a sacred rite of passage and to try again could bring undesired effects and shame in the name of Founder Brimir." He spoke professionally as he looked over at the massive one. She whimpered and walked over to the tall one.
"Familiar, come down," She spoke sternly as she made a gesture for him to lean down. He looked confused as he knelt to look this five-foot mage in the eyes. "My name is Louise Françoise le Blanc de la Vallière. Pentagon that rules the five powers, bless this individual, and make him my familiar!" She instantly planted a kiss as the girls recoiled and the boys laughed.
The figure pulled back and tried to speak before he held his left hand as the runes were magically branded. He tried his best to keep his conscious, but he quickly passed out. With such a heavy body, the sound of a felled tree was easily heard!
