Author Notes: I realized that I kinda been neglecting the twins since I unintentionally been focusing on Tony a lot so I decided to write something where Jade has a heart to heart conversation with her daughters after a misadventure, hope you enjoy.
Both West twins were sitting on a couch in the store manager's office, they were in deep conversation and while that was normal between children, not so much when they were in deep, deep trouble.
"You think this will work?"
"If it doesn't then we're going to get grounded for nothing." Danielle said. "But from what I can tell, that manager guy is calling mom."
"But do you think it will work?" Tawny pressed. "I mean there's the chance that mom can't come and Mama will pick us up instead."
"Then we'll tell her why we did what we did and hopefully she'll cut us some slack and we'll try again and we'll keep trying till we have mom where we want her!"
"By the way, you know where aunt Cat is… Right?"
"Probably still hiding."
"Go figure."
Meanwhile as the twins kept talking, the store manager was dialing, he gulped because he was nervous, and who wouldn't be? Calling Jade West wasn't something even the bravest of men wouldn't dare to do, she had quite a reputation for scaring anyone with just a single look, she was even capable of sending a chill down your spine by the sound of her voice, that was enough to imagine the glare in her eyes… It was an impressive feast.
Of course, the only people immune to that were none other than her family, if anything it is rumored that her wife somehow mastered the glare and perfected it to devious ends.
The silver lining was that getting in contact with the director queen of horror was easier said than done since she very rarely answers her own phone due in part to being in the middle of writing, directing or acting in one of her projects and interrupting that was like getting inside a cage with a hungry lioness.
… Unfortunately, there was a plan B to get in contact with her… Which was calling the studio where she worked or her assistance and unless you were part of her family or friends you better had a good reason for calling during working hours…. Or else you were going to be unhappy for a very long time.
"Hello?" He asked once someone picked up on the other end of the line. "I'm sorry to bother you but is this Jade West speaking?"
"Fraid not."
"I see… Who am I talking to?"
"Before I answer that, I want to know who am I talking to?"
"I'm the manager of the Schneider Grocery Store, I've got two little girls here who claim to be Mrs. West daughters…!"
"Ah those would be my nieces!" Trina said. "Are they ok?!"
"Well it depends on what you mean by ok." The managed replied back. "They're detained in my office and…"
"Hold on!" Trina said "I'm going to get their mother on the phone, she's going to want to hear this."
"NO! WAIT!" The manager bellowed "You can just take the message…!"
But it was too late as he heard the woman telling her sister in law to take the call.
"I don't know why I hired you Trina." Jade snapped. "You can't take a message while I'm working!"
"I can!" She defended "But trust me, you're going to want to hear this!"
The former goth grumbled that Tori owed her big time for giving her sister a job before accepting the call.
"Jade West, whose calling?" She asked ominously "This better be good!"
"Well Miss West." The poor man gulped. "Like I was telling your friend I have two little girls in my office and I tried calling your wife but she wasn't answering her phone and so…."
"Are they twins?" She inquired. "Do hey have two different eye colors? One green and the other brown?"
"That's very specific but yes."
"Damn… Once… Just once I wish it wasn't them." Jade cursed under her breath. "What did they do this time? Did they destroyed something I need to pay for?"
"No, they did no such thing."
"Did they hotwire a car?"
The manager had a WTF look on his face. "Is this some kind of a joke?" he gave the twins a quick look, they appeared to be about seven maybe eight years old, not even close to be able to drive, if anything had they not caused a ruckus on his store he would have thought they were innocent little angels.
Dani and Tawny shared a look and a grin, something the manager noticed. "Angels? More like cunning little demons…" clearly they were quite smart for their age and their parents knew it… Especially Jade West, otherwise she wouldn't be asking these vey unnerving questions.
"Did they let animals loose in your store?"
"No."
"Don't answer so quickly."
The manager became paranoid at that and mentally decided to have a look around his store after ending the call.
"Did they play pranks on your costumers?"
"No."
"Did they managed to hack into your store's computer and started putting Justin Fever music on the speakerphone which drove everyone insane?"
"No one is that cruel!"
"Well, what did they do?"
"It's kind of a long story but the short version is that a lot of parents aren't happy." The manager said aggravated. "Your daughters started a game in the middle of the store and just about every kid decided to join in because they didn't want to waste time being bored at my store."
"Stop." Jade said. "I see where you're going with this… There was a lot of havoc wasn't there?"
"To put it mildly… Yes."
"You said you only have my daughters with you right?"
"Correct."
"Didn't they come in with a redhead?"
"That's the other thing…" He said unsurely. "The woman they came in with took part of the game and we haven't been able to find her."
"Look, I'm on my way," Jade sighs "Tell my kids that the game is over and that all their little playmates better be with their own parents by the time I get there oh and say over the speakerphone that you got bibble in your office, that usually gets Cat out of her hiding spot."
"Okkkk?"
The managed hanged up before telling the twins that their mom was coming.
Dani and Tawny couldn't help but make a victory dance.
The man blinked in surprise since most kids wouldn't be cheering by the sole fact that they undoubtedly were in trouble.
Then the door to his office opened and in came the janitor, holding Cat so she wouldn't make a run for it.
"I found her hiding in the closet."
"Aw phooey!" Cat said. "Is the game over?"
Once Jade arrived at the Schneider Grocery Store the first thing Jade did was asking the other parents if they had their kids with them, once she got a confirmation, she knew at least the twins had at least obeyed that part, now she just wanted an explanation.
The moment she entered the manager's office, Jade was hugged by Cat.
"Jadey!" The redhead greeted cheerfully, holding her best friend in her arms. "You got bibble?"
"No Cat!" She snapped "I don't have bibble and you have five seconds to get off of me!"
"Phooey!"
"And what you two have to say?" Jade crossed her arms. "Tricking your aunt Cat is one thing, she's easy enough to fool, she has the attention span of a chipmunk after all."
"Yeah!" Cat agreed. "Hey wait a minute! That's not true!" She then looked down. "Oh, look a quarter!"
"I rest my case." Jade rolled her eyes. "What do you have to say for yourself?"
"We had fun playing hide and seek!" Tawny replied. "And so did everyone else!"
"The staff didn't!" The managed said. "They're going to have nightmares after this!"
After hearing the man rant for about an hour and threatened to have the twins banned for life, Jade came with a solution that would appease everyone.
"How about this, you don't ban my kids from your store and I'll tell a lot of my friends I come to buy my stuff here, that will be good for your business."
"Well. I guess that…"
"Then it's settled," Jade shouted back, getting her daughters and Cat out of the office and into her car. Cat was in the passenger's seat and the twins in the backseat, once everyone had seated their seatbelts on, "Okay, you three. What the hell happened in there?!"
"We played hide and seek!" Cat cheered.
"Yes, I got that part." Jade growled. "The question here is why?!"
"See mom." Danielle said. "Its this game where everyone hides and one had to find them…"
"I know the game."
"Did it exist when you were our age?" Tawny asked. "It must be old!"
"Watch it!" Jade warned. "Anyway, I'm still waiting for an answer!"
"See mom." Danielle continued. "There was this huge line to the cash register and aunt Cat suggested we play something to kill the time and the store was so big we decided to play hide and seek!"
Jade glared at her best friend who obliviously waved back.
"Then some other kids began to see what we were doing." Tawny said. "And joined in and my sister was it and she doesn't have a lot of patience and well… some stuff was tossed around.
"That's not true!" Dani snapped. "I found plenty of other kids! They were just crybabies that I found them so easily! Then of course we thought of a way to make the game more interesting."
"That you could come and play with us Mom!"
Jade blinked surprised. "Wait…What?"
"It's just…" Danielle said sadly. "Mom, you remembered when we found your hammed?"
"Yeah… But what does that have to do with anything?"
"You remember when you told us it was your favorite toy?" Tawny asked this time. "And how you didn't have any toys like we have when you were our age?"
"Girls… Where are you going with this?"
"We just thought that if we could get you to play with us you would have a bit of the childhood you never had mom." The twins said at the same time.
To say Jade was surprised was an understanding.
"Girls… That's a nice thought on your part but…"
"No buts mom!" Tawny shouted. "Its not fair that you had a bad childhood and we're having a good one! Doesn't that make you jealous?"
"On the contrary." Jade replied. "It makes me happy to see you two getting the love and attention I didn't get when I was your age and trust me, I'm not jealous, if anything knowing you both are having a happy childhood is what any mother wants."
"But…"
"No but girls!" She said back. "You don't have to worry about me, just the fact that you want me to be a part of your game says it all."
Without another word, Jade hugged her children and they returned in kind.
Cat had a hand over her heart.
"Tori's going to be so jealous she missed this cute family moment." She thought. "Good thing I recorded it."
When Tori saw the heart to heart talk on Cat's phone all she could think about was.
"I love it when Jade shows her soft side but why did I had to miss it?!"
Ok my bad that Tori didn't have that big of a role in this chapter but in my defense I didn't realize that until after finishing this, so I had to write her in somehow as it's a rule that Jade and Tori have to appear in every chapter of this story, her feeling left out was an "inside joke" on my part that she unfortunately didn't have a major role to pay.
As for Jade, it was stated in the show, Jade didn't have the best childhood and that her favorite "toy" was a hammer, Tori surely wasn't happy when she found out that her wife's upbringing was most likely full of neglect, the same can be said for their children who felt sad that their mom didn't have a happy childhood and would try to fix that, so this idea was born.
