"This is Agent 2, we rescued a survivor. He's now reassigned to be Agent 3.5" Agent 2 called.
[Good. Thank goodness there are survivors around. It's good to see you again, Daigo.] Cap'n Cuttlefish's voice chuckles.
"It's great to be back, Captain. I'm glad that you guys came back for me." Agent 3.5, Daigo, sighs with relief.
[Well don't celebrate just yet, sonny. You're still on a mission.]
"I know." Agent 3.5 calmly replies.
"Hey, gramps, so what's our target if we're fighting octopuses?" Agent 3 asks.
[You'll find out once you reach a certain location.]
Finally, Cap'n Cuttlefish hangs up with 4 agents continuing on with their mission.
Outside as the sun sets, 4 inklings are hiding behind the warehouse exit as they're holding the masks that resemble the octarian army.
"Alright, when I make the signal, let's leg it and when the octarians are near, just blend in." Agent 1 whispers.
Behind her are Agent 2, 3 and 3.5 as they're following Agent 1's lead.
To Agent 1's surprise, the city is deserted, causing her to believe that the octolings are reporting intruders like her and her team.
"Huh? I guess we don't need a disguise then?"
"We still do. The octarians are preparing to surprise attack us." Said Agent 2.
"Good point. Agent 3, Agent 3.5, I need you two to stick together. Agent 2 and I are taking the grounds." Agent 1 ordered.
"Huh!? But what's going to happen to you two!? I can't do this on my own!" Agent 3.5 exclaims, knowing that Agent 1 and 2 are leaving him again.
"Relax, Agent 3 is by your side. There's a better chance that we'll meet each other again." Agent 2 pats Agent 3.5's shoulder as she can tell that he and Agent 3 are great at taking the octarians down without any assistance.
"Senpai…" Agent 3.5 calms down.
With Agent 1 and 2 putting on the masks of octarians, Agent 3 and 3.5 are climbing up the stairs and painting the wall to gain access to the rooftop.
"See ya!" Agent 1 waves as she and Agent 2 are painting the ground and swim their way out of the warehouse.
That leaves Agent 3 and 3.5 all alone as they climb up to the roof of the warehouse.
10 minutes later, the sun is actually setting as the sky turns from blue to yellow which had Agent 3 and 3.5 admiring the beauty of this scenario.
"Woo!~" Agent 3 already knows why the outside is so beautiful.
"Oi! Three! We have to keep moving!" Agent 3.5 called.
"Hm? Oh! Coming!" Agent 3 is watching Agent 1 and 2 sneaking in while assassinating the octarian army in disguise which is a huge advantage for the New Squidbeak Splatoon to break through.
What Agent 3.5 is equipped with was a Hero Slosher, a bucket-like weapon to throw ink at the opposing side.
With the duo jumping onto another building, they hide behind the building as they encounter a single octarian on a machine, spraying pink paint all over the building.
"Are these the guys we're fighting against?" Agent 3 asks out of curiosity.
"Yes. These are octarians and the one we see right now is called the Octotrooper. They don't talk like the octolings and they're just mooks that's preventing us from reaching our goal." Agent 3.5 answers as he turns on the speaker with his headphones similar to Agent 3's. "Captain, what should we do if we can't disguise ourselves?"
[Hmm. So they're planning on spraying your path. The only option right now is to splat them. I'm sure kids like you are capable of doing that.] Cap'n Cuttlefish's voice replied.
"Ngh… I don't want to, but okay." Turning off his speaker, Agent 3.5 nods and holds out a pyramid looking paint that acts as a grenade.
As he tosses it near a single Octotrooper, the Octotrooper halts as he panics and then BOOM!
The Octotrooper is now splatted into green paint, giving Agent 3 and 3.5 the easier access to refill their inks.
"These are Splat Bombs. They're neat sub weapons to use." Agent 3.5 said, showing Agent 3 a Splat Bomb that isn't charging.
"Cool! Where can I get one of those!?"
"I'm sure Captain will make you one when we take down our first big target." Agent 3.5 laughs.
"Sweet!" Agent 3 pulls a toothy grin, hyped about the things around her recently.
Afterwards, both inklings are painting green paint over pink paint, allowing themselves to swim and move forward as squids.
With both inklings stop and see Agent 1 and 2 from above, Agent 1 laughs while dashing with a Hero Roller as she crushes and splats the octarians into nothing but green paint.
"Hahaha! That's right! Get rolled on, octo clowns!"
"Found the Octochopper." Agent 2 fires her Hero Charger at the flying octarians called the Octochoppers who're firing from below and missing.
With so much splatting from below, Agent 3 and 3.5 are proud to see their superiors taking most of the enemies down.
Then they move forward towards a large building that is wider than many as it looks like an arena.
"So, Agent 3, did you tell anyone about the New Squidbeak Splatoon?" Agent 3.5 asked.
"Not really. I was told not to tell anyone." Agent 3 answers while confused.
"Good. It's a secret agent job that should remain anonymous."
As much as he wanted an airheaded inkling girl to keep it all a secret from those who aren't a part of a secret agent group.
"Hey. What do you think of your mother?" Agent 3.5 asks another question.
"Oh! I loved mama. She sometimes acts mean towards other people and she's very mean to my friend. But I still love her!"
In Agent 3.5's mind: how in the world does this girl love the one who almost always puts her life in danger before she enters Inkopolis, albeit an abuser who neglected her own child for money?
But with Callie and Marie around, this inkling girl will be raised better and get more support from them which leads him to turn around and open his mouth by releasing what he's been holding.
"I'm pretty jealous."
"Eh?" Agent 3 stops as Agent 3.5 turns around with a smile that can be described as painful.
"You beat so many octolings on your first mission, surviving the turf war before a few five seconds and you're being raised by the popular Squid Sisters. Compared to me, I'm just too much of a coward. I can't fight in the turf war, I can only beat the octarians with anyone around me." Agent 3.5 self-pities himself, knowing Agent 3 will do better than him, even when he's experienced.
Agent 3 remained silent before realising that he's actually sad.
"I have no parents. My only family was my little sister and she's just like you. She's loud, cheerful and braver than me, but she also studies her school work which is why I'm trying my best to support her." Agent 3.5 said gloomily.
After his answer, a hand patted his head and then Agent 3.5 was pulled into Agent 3's chest.
"There, there. We may not have a family, but I'll take care of you if you're sad." Agent 3 coos while rubbing Agent 3.5's head.
"Rei…" Agent 3.5 tears up while holding himself up from sobbing, causing him to cry quietly. "I wanted to be strong, but…"
"You're stronger in your own way. I'm only here to get paid." Agent 3 admitted while she still smiles positively.
Afterwards, Agent 3.5 is now comforted as Agent 3's stomach makes a growling noise, leading her to cry out of embarrassment.
"You're hungry?" Agent 3.5 asked.
"Well… I didn't eat anything in the afternoon." Agent 3 looks away as she blushes.
Finally, Agent 3.5 hands out a pack of fishsticks for Agent 3 to snack on.
"Here. You might need them more than m-"
Growl…~ Even Agent 3.5's stomach growled.
"I'll split them equally." Agent 3.5 sighs as he can tell what Agent 3 insisted on.
"Sure. Let's eat." Agent 3 raised her arm as she called it.
"Alright."
After the splitting, the duo are watching the yellow sky while eating fish sticks together.
"Are you scared of going through missions like these?" Agent 3.5 asks.
"Nah. I'm psyched to see what we're going up against! So you're just doing this for your sister, huh?"
"Yeah. We need some funds to last longer. I'm even more worried about how you'll make it through life. Don't you have a future?" Agent 3.5 is curious to know more about Agent 3.
"Hm… Not really. I don't know what I'm thinking about when I complete my mission." Agent 3 is losing the plot, thinking about her future.
Now that's something Agent 3 had a hard time processing through her mind.
With the duo thinking about their future, a round octarian is hiding behind the Agent 3 duo while rolling quietly.
Turning around, Agent 3.5 gasps before the octarian ball is spinning so hard in order to spindash.
"Yo, 3.5, I wonder what your dream i-"
"Look out!" Hastily yanking Agent 3 and covering her, Agent 3.5 instantly pulls out Agent 3's Splattershot Jr and fires at a moving ball that is circling and bouncing nonstop.
There's not just one circular octarian as there's 4 more from behind.
"Eh!? Eh!? What is it!?" Agent 3 exclaims out of confusion.
"Octoballs! They're here to roll on us! Run!"
Picking each other up, Agent 3 and 3.5 are making a run for their lives as the Octoballs are rolling after the duo that are painting as far as they could.
With both of them being squids and morphing back repeatedly in order to speed up, Agent 3 slips as she slams down face first on the rooftop.
"Three!" Agent 3.5 exclaims before witnessing one of the Octoballs moving a lot faster than the others, leading him to dash towards Agent 3 and yank her as pink paint splashes and sizzles on his arm as he grunts.
The duo then rolls leading Agent 3 to sit on top of Agent 3.5's torso and then hold her Splattershot Jr before 2 Octoballs arrive to both their east and west.
"Heh, this'll be fun!" Agent 3 pulls a grin while preparing herself.
"Eh!?" Agent 3.5 still couldn't get Agent 3's overconfidence which had him exclaiming in shock.
With both of them near, Agent 3's reflexes are just like the battle against the octolings; ducking and then blasts her Splattershot Jr at both Octoballs left and right.
SPLAT! SPLAT! It's raining green paint as both Octoballs are being thrown off the building.
Agent 3.5's eyes widened with surprise that this beginner is playing her game to the extreme, leading him to twitch his mouth.
Agent 3 then lowers herself closer to Agent 3.5's face with a childlike smile of excitement. "Hey! Raise your stomach!"
"Eh? L- Like this?" Agent 3.5 did what his ally says, causing Agent 3 to leglock his torso and yank him up to sit on his backside and her to lie on her back while laughing. "Wh- What are you-"
"Use your bucket like they did at the turf war!"
This had Agent 3.5's confidence increased as he can tell why Agent 3 is so excited to do this.
Agent 3.5 then smiles confidently and pulls out his Hero Slosher and then grin as he's now having fun.
"Yeah! Hey! Suction heads! Eat green!" Swinging his bucket, Agent 3.5 is splashing his paint all over the building as both Octoballs are sliding out of fear until they fall and drown on green paint until…
SPLAT!
"Gotcha! Huh? The last one's getting away!" Agent 3.5 calls, leading Agent 3 to turn herself into a squid and hop inside a Hero Slosher.
"Throw me!"
Agent 3.5 nods and swings his bucket as hard as he could by chucking Agent 3 out of the bucket which leads her to morph back to her humanoid form and let her right leg cover itself in green paint while diving towards the last Octoball.
Finally, SPLAT! After Agent 3 swings her right leg down and stomp on the ground by splatting an Octoball.
"BOOYAH! This is awesome!" Agent 3 cheers by raising her arm with a rock on hand gesture. "Agent 3.5! We did it!"
"Yeah… We did! That's amazing!" Agent 3.5 laughed as he finally understood the fun in facing his opponents like in a turf war. "Agent 3! Thank you very much!"
"Hm? About what?" Agent 3 tilts her head out of confusion after being thanked by a fellow agent.
"You taught me a lot about having fun, even when there's scarier enemies nearby."
"Ohh! No problem!" Agent 3 remembers what she did as she smiles back at Agent 3.5.
The duo then turn towards the same large building they're heading to as they nod.
"Are you ready?" Agent 3.5 asked.
"Yeah. I'm always ready." Agent 3 is now pumping up at full force.
This time, there's no going back.
Agent 3 and 3.5 are about to face something inside the arena.
