"Alright, let's try this one more time." Misty said. "Now watch us carefully. Gyarados use Aqua Tail!"
Gyarados charged up energy in his tail, before it was coated in swirling water before slamming it into the ground.
"Alright Rhydon, just like they showed us." Brendan said.
"Rhy." Rhydon said, taking an offensive stance on all four limbs, his tail high in the air. Energy began gathering around the small tail as a stream of water shot out from it, creating a longer tail made of water.
"Yes!" Brendan cheered, only for the water to disperse quickly before the attack could finally go off. "No!"
"You need to keep focused." Ash said calmly. "If you don't keep your focus, Rhydon won't be able to either."
"But we've never had a problem like this before today." Brendan commented.
"You've never taught a move nearly as opposite to your Pokemon as this." Ash said.
"And how would you know about moves like that?" Brendan questioned.
"Cyndaquil." Misty remembered. "Back when you first caught him."
"Yeah, it wasn't exactly like this, but back when I caught Cyndaquil, I went from an already trained fire type Charizard, to a freshly caught fire type." Ash said, petting Cyndaquil. "For a while, it took a lot of work for both of us for him to even use his Flamethrower. We both had to keep our focus as he began heating up, but then one day it just stuck, and Cyndaquil has kept that memory of how to use his fire ever since." Ash said with a smile. "You need to find that balance with Rhydon if you want to be able to pull off Aqua Tail for your rematch against Noland."
"Alright, find the balance." Brendan said, taking a deep breath. "Let's try this again, Rhydon use Aqua Tail!"
Water began forming around Rhydon's tail, slowly taking a more solid shape, before the rhino Pokemon swung his tail forward, scattering the water around it.
"Great, now we just need someone to practice it on." Ash said.
"Yeah, I'll take this one. You guys have done enough already." Wally said, walking in front of Rhydon.
"Umm Wally, I think he meant a Pokemon." Brendan said.
"Right, that makes more sense." Wally said.
A ways off
"So do you think it'll pay off?" Scott asked.
"Their training? As long as he can keep the move steady long enough to pull it off, sure, but that's a matter of patience." Noland said. "I'll be curious to see if they come to challenge me again."
"There's something else on your mind, isn't there?" Scott asked.
"Drake." Noland said. "That boy Ash beat him a while back, why didn't you extend an offer to him."
"Ash is onto other dreams." Scott said, looking down at the group. "Look at him, he isn't the muscle of that group, he's the leader, but that's his biggest role. He's there to teach Brendan and Wally to become great trainers. Plus he's been making a splash on the contest scene."
Back with the group
"Alright Rhydon!" Brendan cheered, as Aqua Tail finally connected with Kirlia, sending the psychic type spinning.
"Now if he could just land the hit more than one out of five times." Misty sighed. "Look, I have a gym to get back to, it's been great battling with you again Ash, and Brendan best of luck with your next battle."
"Thanks again for your help Misty." Ash said.
"Okay guys, I think we're ready for the rematch!" Brendan said excitedly.
"I really think you should train some more before fighting him." Ash said. "And if nothing else, give Rhydon some time to rest, he's been practicing that attack all morning."
"I'm with Ash on this, if you rush into the fight now, there's a chance you'll just lose again." Wally said.
"Running into trouble, now that's our specialty." A male voice said.
"Seriously, they're here now?!" Brendan exclaimed.
"How dare you! We are from here! You followed us!" Jessie exclaimed.
"Yeah, well we were hoping for some target practice, so let's see what you've got." Brendan said.
"We'll show you target practice. Cacnea use Needle Arm!" James said. "NOT ON ME! ON THEM!" James exclaimed, pulling the grass type off of him and throwing him at the trio.
"Arbok, Seviper, help him out!" Jessie called out, as the two serpents launched from the hot air balloon.
"Rhydon use Aqua Tail!"
As Cacnea drew in close, Rhydon swung his tail, only for the attack to fail, causing Rhydon to be hit for massive damage.
"He's not alone." Ash said. "Pikachu use Thunderbolt!"
"Kirlia use Psychic!"
Pikachu was launched into the air with help from Kirlia's attack, as he was surrounded by the two snakes.
"Pikachu look out!" Ash called out.
"Seviper use Poison Tail! Arbok use Poison Sting!"
Pikachu was caught between the two attacks, taking massive poison damage in the process.
"Pikachu use Shock Wave!"
"Rhydon use Crush Claw!"
"Cacnea use Needle Arm!"
"Seviper use Poison Tail! Arbok use Crunch!"
The two snakes dove after Pikachu who was trying to recover enough to launch a counter attack, as Cacnea was tossed away by Rhydon.
"Kirlia get Pikachu out of there with Teleport!"
Kirlia suddenly appeared next to Pikachu, grabbing him, and taking him away, causing Arbok and Seviper to crash into each other.
"Alright Rhydon send them back where they came from with Rock Blast!"
Rhydon fired a flurry of rocks at the three team rocket Pokemon, sending them crashing towards the Meowth balloon.
"Now Pikachu use Thunderbolt!" Ash called out.
"PI! KA! CHU!" Pikachu exclaimed sending an electrical blast at Team Rocket.
"Looks like we're blasting off again!" Team Rocket cried out.
"Okay, Pikachu and Rhydon should get looked at at the Pokemon Center." Ash said, picking up his starter. "Then we can look at rechallenging Noland, okay?"
"Sounds like a good idea. Rhydon return." Brendan said.
"You to Kirlia, come on." Wally said.
Later, at Team Rocket's crash site
"Bibibi!"
"Wait, is that Delibird?" Meowth said in shock as the ice and flying type landed nearby.
"Great, probably another pointless bill for us to pay." Jessie complained. "Let's just send him away and act like we never got it."
"Bibibi!" Delibird said, holding out a letter.
"Well, don't keep us waiting Jamesy, what's it say?" Meowth asked.
"It's a letter from the boss." James said. "With an important job!"
"Giovanni gave us a new job!" Meowth said excitedly.
"Even better, it's from the author!" James said. "We got a promotion!"
"Does that mean what I think it means!" Jessie said. "No more cameos!"
"No more spans of time with us not appearing!" Meowth said excitedly.
"We finally are getting our chance to shine!" James cried out.
"WE GET TO BE THE VILLAINS!" The trio cried out ecstatically.
