Episode 2: The Dating Lives of Witches, part 2

[Scene: The police station. Drea is sitting behind her desk, staring at her phone when Michelle sits down on her desk, holding a folder.]

Michelle: If it bothers you this much, call him back and let him have it.

Drea: It doesn't bother me. (Michelle frowns at her.) Alright, maybe it does. Patrick was my first in a lot of things.

Michelle: You were just kids. I know your first is special, but a lot has happened since then. You're both adults now, you both have a past.

Drea: You're right. Maybe I should forget it. Patrick is just my past.

Michelle: You know I'm always right.

Drea: At least you never had this kind of trouble. Not everyone gets to marry their high school sweetheart.

Michelle: (smiling) I know, I'm lucky.

(Drea notices the folder Michelle is holding.)

Drea: What's that?

Michelle: The sketch from the truck driver. He described the person he saw running from our disappeared traffic victim. It's a pretty generic sketch though, could be anyone.

(Michelle hands over the folder and Drea looks at the sketch. She frowns as the image somewhat resembles Porter, though only because she knows him so well.)

Drea: There aren't any other witnesses to back this up?

Michelle: Not really, all descriptions are pretty much the same. It could be anyone.

Drea: Any word from the officer guarding the victim?

Michelle: No, he said it happened too fast. The victim knocked him out from behind.

Drea: So we have an accident, but no victim and no leads.

Michelle: Exactly, I think we should just close the case.

Drea: (thinking) Yeah, I agree. I'm going to head home, got a lot of stuff to think about.

Michelle: Go ahead, I'll take care of the paper work.

(Drea nods gratefully and grabs her coat before heading out. As she leaves, she sees the missed calls from Patrick again on her phone. She sighs and changes her mind about going home.)

[Scene: The herb shop. Porter and Percy are collecting the various ingredients from their list. There are only a few people in the shop. Percy picks up a box and opens it, releasing a horrible smell. He coughs and quickly puts it away.]

Percy: Man, this really is a shop for weirdos. I mean, who buys this stuff?

(A woman dressed like a hippie gives him a dirty look before walking away.)

Porter: I guess there are a lot of people that are into witchcraft and alternative medicine.

Percy: So how are you dealing?

Porter: (frowning) With the fact that my boyfriend tried to kill me? Not good. I can't believe this is what our lives have become now. You never should have opened that book.

Percy: At least it brought us back together. And that's not the only good thing.

Porter: What do you mean?

Percy: I mean this. (Percy holds up the lottery ticket from before.) We're going to be rich.

Porter: Did you have another premonition?

Percy: Yeah, the winning numbers just popped into my head.

Porter: That seems a little wrong. If we're supposed to be good witches, aren't there rules or something?

Percy: Actually, I did read something about personal gain. The Book of Shadows said that we're not supposed to use our powers for selfish reasons.

Porter: Using magic to win the lottery seems pretty selfish to me.

Percy: Hey, it wasn't my intention. I can't control these premonitions, they just happen. Maybe I saw those numbers for a good reason.

Porter: Like how you saw yourself with the bartender?

Percy: (smiling) That was definitely a good reason.

Porter: Just be careful, okay? We don't know what kinds of dangers these powers attract. The bartender could have been another warlock.

Percy: Look, Adam is a jerk, but that doesn't mean everyone is out to get us.

Porter: I hope you're right. (He check his list.) Alright, I think we have everything except roses.

Percy: Roses?

Porter: Yeah, they symbolize the love part of the ritual.

Percy: Maybe that's why Grams has so many rose bushes in the garden. She had her fair share of lost loves. (He pauses.) Wait a minute, do you think Grams created this ritual?

Porter: (frowning.) It's definitely possible. Now that I think about it, a few of the men she dated did disappear without a trace.

Percy: That's a scary thought.

Porter: Yeah. Anyway, we have everything, so let's get back to the manor before Adam finds us.

(Percy nods and they head to the register.)

[Scene: The Halliwell Manor. Patrick is impatiently pacing in the hallway with a fire poker when the doorbell rings. He carefully moves to the door and opens it. He is both relieved and concerned to see Drea standing in front of him. She looks at the fire poker with a frown and he quickly puts it away.]

Patrick: Just cleaning up. I'm glad you're here.

Drea: You've been calling me non-stop, so I figured it was better to settle this sooner rather than later. Can I come in?

Patrick: (hesitantly.) Uh, now is not the best time. Can we meet up tomorrow morning?

Drea: Why? Is she here?

(Drea walks past Patrick into the manor and looks around. Patrick closes the door and follows her.)

Patrick: No, she's not. It has nothing to do with her, Drea.

Drea: On the contrary, it has everything do to with her. Do you know how it felt for me to see her at the funeral like that?

Patrick: Look, I had no idea she would show up. We're not together.

Drea: Honestly, that's even worse. You are giving both of us mixed signals. I don't want to be caught up in this type of drama, Patrick. We're not in high school anymore.

Patrick: You're right, I'm sorry.

Drea: Look, nothing has happened between us yet. Right now, we're just friends and I think it's better to leave things at that.

Patrick: Considering everything that's going on, maybe you're right. You're not just important to me, but to my brothers as well. I don't want to ruin that.

Drea: (with a sad smile.) That sounds a bit more mature.

Patrick: (He smiles back.) I'm working on it.

Drea: Then as your friend, let me give you some advice. Be honest with Rachel, that's all any woman ever wants.

Patrick: I will, thanks.

Drea: I'll see you later. (She turns around to leave, but then pauses.) One more thing, did you talk to Porter today?

Patrick: Yeah, of course. Why?

Drea: Well, there was an accident earlier today and someone resembling Porter was seen in the area. I just wanted to make sure he was alright.

Patrick: I think I would have heard if he was involved in an accident.

Drea: Yeah, forget I even asked. I'll see you later.

(Patrick opens the door for Drea and she leaves. Just as she drives away, Porter and Percy return and enter the manor.)

Percy: Was that Drea?

Patrick: Yeah, I don't want to talk about it. Did you get everything you need?

Porter: Just one more thing. You get this stuff inside, I'll get a rose from the garden.

[Scene: A dark room at an unknown location. Adam enters the room. His clothes are torn and he has a few scratches on his arms and face, though none of the wounds are bleeding. A dark figure moves in the shadows and looks at him.]

Figure: You failed. You let the witch discover who you are too soon. You were supposed to lure them all together.

Adam: I couldn't help it. He got nosy.

Figure: And then you let him escape.

Adam: (growling.) I didn't let him. He froze me and I was hit by a damn truck.

Figure: You'll be fine. Warlocks don't bleed, remember.

Adam: It still hurts. I'll make him suffer for that as I take his powers.

Figure: Remember who those powers are for, Adam. I am the one that made you what you are and I can just as easily destroy you.

Adam: (reluctantly) Of course, forgive me.

Figure: Your cover is blown, get to the witches and take their powers. Don't bother coming back empty handed.

Adam: I won't.

(Adam leaves and the figure disappears in the shadows.)

[Scene: The Halliwell manor, the attic. The brothers are preparing for the ritual. Porter is sitting in a circle of candles with a cauldron in front of him, Percy is checking the Book of Shadows while Patrick is looking at the street from the window.]

Porter: Are you sure this is going to work?

Percy: The ritual is in the book for a reason. It has to work. Also, fun fact I just read, killing warlocks is actually referred to as vanquishing.

Patrick: (frowning) Fascinating. Right now, the ritual is our best shot. I don't think we'll get as lucky as last time.

Percy: You call that luck? We almost died.

Patrick: All I mean is that we're prepared this time. We're following the instructions Grams and the other witches in our family left for us. As strange as that sounds…

Porter: I wonder what else she hid from us all those years.

Patrick: Now is not the time to think about that. Percy, walk us through this.

Percy: Alright. (He checks the book.) Every witch has the same basic abilities to cast spells and brew potions. This ritual requires both. Once the potion is complete, you simply cast the spell and Adam should disappear. Easy.

Porter: Yeah, real simple. Want to trade places?

Percy: We can't. Adam is your former love.

Porter: Can please not call him that? I don't think love was ever on the table.

Patrick: It doesn't matter what we call him. Let's just start the ritual before he gets here.

Percy: Alright, Porter, just follow my instructions.

(Porter nods and begins putting the ingredients in the cauldron as Percy instructs. Smoke begins to rise from the cauldron and the fire from the candles increases. Once he puts in the last ingredient, a small explosion occurs in the cauldron.)

Percy: Awesome. Alright, now throw in the rose as you finish casting the spell.

(Patrick looks outside and sees Adam walking toward the manor.)

Patrick: Perfect timing. He's here.

(Patrick runs downstairs.)

Porter: Here goes nothing. (He picks up the rose and stares at it.) Your love will wither and depart, from my life and my heart, like a rose your love I sever, leave me be, Adam, and go away forever.

(Downstairs, Adam kicks open the door and enters the manor just as Patrick heads down the stairs. Porter drops the rose in the cauldron and another explosion occurs. Downstairs, Adam falls to his knees and screams out in agony as Patrick watches. Thorns erupt from his skin and his face twists into his monstrous form. However, the ritual doesn't destroy him.)

Adam: You'll need more than that to take me out.

Patrick: As you wish.

(Patrick nudges his head and Adam is flung into the wall. Meanwhile, Porter and Percy join Patrick on the stairs. Adam crawls back up.)

Percy: He's still not dead?

Adam: You have no idea what you're dealing with. You're not prepared for what is coming.

Patrick: You're not the first warlock we vanquished.

(Adam begins laughing.)

Adam: Do you think you vanquished him? Who do you think sent me after you in the first place? Even if you vanquish me, he'll keep coming after you. He'll send others. Warlocks, demons, the evil coming after you will never end.

Porter: We'll face them together.

Adam: Poor little Porter. You couldn't finish me off on your own. Your spell failed because you're too weak.

Porter: No, the spell failed because it's meant for a love, which you never were.

Patrick: Time to end this.

(Adam growls and fires a beam of energy at the brothers, which Porter freezes. Patrick notices the fire poker standing by the door and flings his hand. The poker flies toward and impales Adam through the chest. He screams as he unfreezes and fire begins to consume him until he explodes, leaving only ashes and the poker behind.)

Percy: That was intense.

Patrick: At least it's over.

Porter: Is it? He said that they would keep coming for us. The warlock that killed Grams isn't gone, he's still out there.

Patrick: Like you said, we'll face them together.

(Porter and Percy smile.)

[Scene: The Halliwell Manor, the next morning. Patrick and Porter are eating breakfast in the kitchen. They suddenly hear an excited cheering and Percy comes running into the kitchen. He hold up the lottery ticket as he jumps up and down.]

Percy: We won! We won the lottery!

Patrick: Wait, what?

Percy: We're rich, dude. I'm going to buy a car!

Porter: I can't believe it actually worked.

Patrick: Let me see that.

(Percy hands over the lottery ticket. As soon as Patrick looks at it, the numbers on the ticket are magically erased, leaving only a blank piece of paper.)

Percy: No, no, no! What happened?

Porter: (smirking) Well, looks like it wasn't a good reason after all.

Patrick: Can someone please explain what just happened?

Percy: I had a premonition about the winning lottery numbers and bought a ticket, but good witches can't use magic for personal gain.

Patrick: That makes sense. If we used our magic for selfish reasons, we'd be just as bad as warlocks. I bet there is someone out there that needs the money more.

Percy: I guess you're right. (He sits down in defeat.) Well, at least I helped that elderly couple so they could go on a vacation with their grandkids.

Porter: So you did a good thing.

Percy: Yeah, I just wish I could a reward for it.

Patrick: The world doesn't work like that, Percy, so why should magic? (He gets up.) I have to go, I have to meet Rachel at the airport.

Porter: Wait, you're not leaving, are you?

Patrick: No, but I have to end things with her the right way. I need to be honest with her.

Porter: Good luck.

Patrick: Thanks.

(Patrick finishes his coffee and leaves the kitchen. Percy sits next to Porter and throws his arm around him for support.)

Percy: How are you doing, buddy? You know, with the whole Adam thing?

Porter: I'm strangely okay. The ritual showed me that there was never any real love between us. He was just so perfect that I guess I wanted to believe the fantasy.

Percy: Good for you. The right guy is out there, I know it.

Porter: You're right. It's just that dating has gotten a whole lot more complicated now that we're witches.

Percy: We'll figure it out. Just don't date any more warlocks, okay?

(Porter glares at him and slides the empty lottery ticket across the table to Percy. He smirks as he gets up and leaves, while Percy buries his head on the table and groans.)

[Scene: The airport. Rachel is standing near her terminal while impatiently checking her phone. The crew is calling for the final boarding just as Patrick arrives. Rachel is happy to see him and hugs him.]

Rachel: I knew you would see reason.

Patrick: Rachel…

Rachel: Don't worry, I have already forgiven you and we can still fix things with the partners. Our future is safe.

Patrick: Rachel, there is no future for us.

Rachel: (frowning) Excuse me?

Patrick: Look, maybe I have given you the wrong impression before and I'm sorry about that, but I don't want the same thing you do. I don't want to be partner and I don't want to be with you. My life is here in San Francisco.

Rachel: Is this about ugly pantsuit girl?

Patrick: No, this has nothing to do with her. This is about me and what I want.

(Rachel angrily slaps him across the face)

Rachel: Do you know how much time and energy I put into this? You're not worth it, Patrick. I knew I should have gone after Larry from finance, but you were yummier.

Patrick: Take care, Rachel. I hope you find what you're looking for.

(Rachel scoffs at him and grabs her suitcase, getting on her plane. Once the door closes, Patrick walks way. He passes a flower stand and looks at the flowers with a thoughtful smile.)

[Scene: The police station. Drea and Michelle are both working at their desks when a delivery boy arrives holding a bouquet of flowers.]

Delivery boy: I have a delivery for Andrea Trudeau?

Drea: That's me.

(The delivery boy hands over the flowers and leaves.)

Michelle: Flowers, huh? At least he has some style.

Drea: We're just friends. And besides, I don't even know if they're from him.

Michelle: Whatever, girl. We both know.

(Michelle walks away to get coffee and Drea opens the card attached to the flowers. The card reads "Thanks for helping me be honest, your friend, Patrick. PS, the coffee is ready when you are." Drea folds the card and smiles as she smells the flowers.)
