Chapter 2: Consequences Discovered and Rules Explained
"The next day after the incident in the forest Chen, Ran, and Yukari were visiting the library at the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Chen was running around excitedly until Koakuma sat her down with a pile of coloring books and crayons. Ran was leading Yukari by the hand while she gazed dreamily into space. Ran sat Yukari down across from Chen and then turned to address Patchouli. "Something has been wrong with Yukari since yesterday, and we could really use your help". Patchouli looked at Yukari who was staring into space with a strange smile on her face.
Yukari also seemed to be blushing as she muttered weird fantasies under her breath. "Blue fairy oh blue fairy we're going to be married soon and we'll have so many kids and spend every day together". Ran continued, "As you can see the mistress has clearly gone insane." Patchouli began to ponder the issue but stopped to ask, "Why have you brought her here and not to Eirin Yagokoro and the rabbits? Both mental and physical ailments seem to fall more under her purview than mine." Ran watched Yukari who had taken a piece of paper from the table and was drawing a picture of her and Cirno together. "You would normally be correct but I believe this has to do with one of the potions involved in the incident yesterday." Patchouli said, "I believe everything was returned this time. Koakuma please bring yesterday's inventory." Koakuma returned after a short time with a long list of books and potions. Patchouli scanned the list mentally comparing the list to the items she recovered. She waved Koakuma over and they began to whisper. "Koakuma did we receive that one", pointing at a potion name on the list. Koakuma shook her head and Patchouli's face took on a troubled expression.
"What seems to be the issue", Ran said. Patchouli and Koakuma looked up from the list and Patchouli began to speak. "We've identified the potion responsible". Ran breathed a sigh of relief and said, "That's great. If you could just whip up a quick antidote, then we can fix everything. Payment is no issue of course." Patchouli shook her head. "I'm afraid it won't be that easy. The potion Yukari was hit with was a very powerful love potion. It was requested by Remilia who wished to capture the heart of the shrine maiden. And knowing of the shrine maiden's great power she did not want any easy ways out." Ran looking dismayed asked, "But surely there must be some antidote or way to get it to wear off or something?" Patchouli pouted and said, "Of course even for the mistress I would never make a potion with no counter. I knew it might be needed to return Reimu to her senses so I built in a fail safe. You must convince Cirno to break Yukari's heart. Originally if needed I planned to have the tengu reporters doctor up an affair between the mistress and myself or Sakuya, but there are plenty of other approaches you can take. Just convince the fairy to tear Yukari's heart to shreds, and she should return to normal. She may end up killing the fairy though.
Ran thought over what she had been told and asked, "And what if we can't convince the fairy?" Patchouli pondered for a bit and replied, "I don't know why you shouldn't be able to, but if you can't it will become harder and harder. Unless Cirno is truly a hateful girl she will probably be somewhat decent to Yukari, which will create positive encounters between the two. And this will turn the affection which is currently only based on magic into something that has real footing based on dates and intimate moments." Ran said "Why would it be an issue if they get more intimate?" Patchouli responded, "If they were to somehow get close enough, then the relationship could become real. This would lead to the feelings of love becoming Yukari's real feelings. If Cirno breaks the most powerful yokai's heart and the feelings are real, then just imagine what kind of damage an emotionally devastated Yukari could cause". Ran thought about it and her face flashed with terror at the idea of Yukari going on an emotional rampage. "Get the fairy to break her heart quick, got it." Ran then looked around the room counting the people present as gears began to turn. "Chen coloring, Koakuma sorting books, me here and scared, and Patchouli talking to me. WHERE IS YUKARI?!
Welcome to Chapter 2! As stated in Chapter 1 this and the next chapter are all being uploaded together. I appreciate all comments and reviews, and I will take them into consideration for chapter 4 and following. Of course if it is anything about formatting or grammar or the like then I will gladly edit and replace any of these chapters for the sake of better quality and ease of reading.
