Goddamnit it's cold. Jay thought to himself as he started making his way down the El platform. Even with long johns on under his uniform the Chicago wind Felt like it was biting his bones. He almost laughed at the thought of when he first got to intelligence almost a decade ago how he would be running around in a hoody and leather jacket in the freezing weather.

"Guys what do we got?"

"Hey Sarge looks like one victim, they rushed him to med. Sanchez and Anderson followed the ambulance to the hospital. Doesn't seem like he's going to make it. Two witnesses over by the bench say it was a mugging gone bad. Two males both about six feet wearing masks so they couldn't make out race or anything useful. Both wearing dark colors fled to the street."

" Ok good job. You contact Robbery Homicide yet?" Jay asked.

"Was right about too."

"Ok cool." Jay said and as he looked up he saw two people making their way under the crime scene tape.

"We heard the call over the zone and we were in the area." Kevin said as he walked over to Jay.

"Why don't I believe that?"

"Maybe we also wanted to see you in all your Sergeant glory live and in person." Adam joked. "In all seriousness though there's nothing for us here right?"

"Nah probably not. I'm having one of the cops reach out to robbery homicide and we're gonna go from there. Pretty standard mugging gone bad."

"Ok." Adam said "I gotta say though you look adorable in your little Sergeant winter hat. I'm gonna buy you the Elmer Fudd looking one with the flaps though"

"Oh fuck off Ruzek."

"You know I kid because I love you Jay. Also Voight has to age out eventually and you'll be back and I will be your favorite." With Voight approaching mandatory retirement age it had been suggested that Jay take over the unit and while everyone had been on board there was still no way around the fact that all Sergeants were required to do at least a year on patrol. So with the promotion had come a temporary transfer out of intelligence with a promise of returning once his patrol time was up. "Also because I worked with you the longest I will be second in command." Both Jay and Kevin looked at him like he lost his mind.

"You proud of yourself you got that out with a straight face?" Kevin asked Ruzek who nodded.

"Ok now I'm ordering you to leave." Jay said half seriously.

"The chevrons look good on you man." Kevin said as they were walking away. He then focused his attention to one the rookie patrol officers "You take care of Sgt Halstead you hear me? One of the best cops I ever worked with. You'll learn a lot from him."

"Hey Hailey did you see this?" Adam asked as Upton and Torres made their way up the stairs to intelligence the next morning.

"Did I see what?" She asked walking over to the desk to see what Adam was pointing out on his phone.

"That crime scene Jay was working yesterday? Looks like someone took a pic or two of him at the scene and it's going viral online."

"Viral why?" Torres asked has he started to walk over to also see the pictures.

"Apparently A lot of people on the Internet think Jay is really good looking." Hailey laughed to her self she started reading the comments.

"Oh some of there are gold." Adam responded. " 'Damn I'd let him arrest me anytime.' 'If he's on scene I've been a very bad boy.' 'Yes Hello I'd like to confess to all the crimes.' God I love instagram"

"That one is just a bunch of peach emojis." Torres said.

"I mean that one does have a point."

"eww." Torres and Adam responded in unison.

"Nope don't want to hear it you guys talk about girls all the time." At the same time the trio heard Voight slamming down some paperwork in his office.

"Has he always been like that or has it been worse as the mandatory retirement is creeping closer."

"Honestly? It's hard to tell." Adam said as he slid his phone away. "But either way angry boss means it is time to do paperwork."

Later that night in the kitchen Hailey heard the front door opening. "Hello Sgt Hot Stuff."

"Not you too." Jay half groaned as he placed his keys on the hook next to the door. "I was getting it enough at the district as it is" He proceeded to take his jacket and winter hat off before placing them in the closet.

"Oh come on it's a little funny. I'm making your favorite."

"I can tell it smells amazing in here." Jay said as he made his way over to Hailey and enveloped her in a hug.

"How was work today?"

Hailey shrugged as she stirred a pot. "Nothing special just a boring paperwork in the bullpen day."

"Lucky you it was five degrees out and it seemed like I was needed at every job that involved being outside." Jay said

"Well I mean according to the internet every job requires the response of Sgt Halstud."

"I hate you." Jay jokingly responded while giving her a peck on the lips.

"I mean you being in a leadership position is kind of hot." Hailey said as she handed Jay a beer.

"You're lying to me to make me feel better but I appreciate it thank you."

"You know you miss everyone."

"I miss being around you at work and I miss the truck."

"I know going back to patrol was not what you had in mind but you'll be back in intelligence soon. And don't worry i'm keeping the truck away from Ruzek. So when are you RDO again?"

"Thursday and Friday."

"Well then Thursday night we are having a date. We're going to cuddle up on the couch with some pizza and beer and watch a movie."

"One condition, I'm wearing the extra warm pajamas because I still feel it in my toes."

"You should have had on wool socks."

"I did. Also the image of you driving the truck every day is really hot not gonna lie."

"Ok keep it in your pants and set the table."

"The bossy thing is cute too."

AN: Reviews are appreciated. I really hope we get something open ended like this so there is a possibility we get Jay back.
