The first thing Danny noticed was that he was comfy. And that it smelled. Not a bad smell, just that old book smell that showed up in libraries. It was at that point that Danny remembered he had, in fact, previously been wandering around a forest and sadly not sleeping in a library. Danny groaned; he distantly recalled stumbling onto a highway and face planting, but after that, nothing.
"Morning, sleeping beauty."
Danny shot up and looked around wildly.
"Whoa, kid, it's alright." There were three men in the room; one was a giant with sandy hair who was leaning against a far wall, another was an older man with greying hair sitting in an armchair across the room, and lastly, the man who spoke was standing next to the couch Danny was on. The guy that spoke previously looked kind of like the giant but shorter and with darker hair, he kind of reminded Danny of a soldier.
"Who are you? Where am I? What-"
"Slow down, kid. I'm Dean; that's my brother Sam and the old man over there is Bobby."
The newly named Bobby sat up and glared at the soldier, Dean, "I may be an old pack mule, but I can still kick yer ass." Then he turned to Danny, "This is my house, kid; the boys found you on the road a couple of miles back and brought ya here."
Danny stared at them. They seemed...nice? At least the giant, Sam, did. Dean and Bobby were a bit intimidating. They were both calm, but they seemed to be surveying Danny, as if they were trying to figure out if he was a threat or not.
Danny stayed pressed against one corner of the couch and glared at them, "So you guys just helped me out of the kindness of your hearts, right? How do I know you guys ain't a bunch of pedo's or somthin'?"
Dean and Sam suddenly looked confused and uncomfortable and then slightly offended. The sudden change on both men's faces was hilarious, and Danny felt the corner of his mouth twitch up.
Then the old guy started laughing, "Ya know kid, I been accused of a lotta things, but that's a new one." He suddenly turned serious, "We ain't gonna hurt ya. I just run an old scrapyard, and Sam and Dean are my nephews. We helped cause we could. Now, how long you been a runaway?"
Danny stiffened, "What makes you think I'm a runaway? Maybe I'm just lost."
Dean snorted, and Danny whipped his head around to glare at him.
"Right, kid." Bobby started, "Since you're so lost, we'll drop you off at the police station. They can get you home." He paused and raised an eyebrow, "Unless you got a reason you can't go home."
Danny stared at Bobby before looking down at his lap. He shifted uncomfortably, "I can't," his head snapped up, "I got a reason."
Bobby watched him for a moment, then pulled himself out of his chair, "Alright."
"That's it?" Danny was confused; typically, adults were a lot more...problematic.
"Nope." With that, Bobby walked out of the living room. Danny stared after him, and a few moments later, Bobby came back in with a bowl of mac n' cheese and held it out to Danny."What's your name, kid?"
Danny stared at the bowl before slowly reaching up and taking it. "Danny. And thanks."
Sam watched as the kid, Danny, took the bowl and surveyed its contents. After deeming it safe, the kid started to wolf the food down; jeez, he could compete with Dean. Obviously, the kid was starving, and Sam couldn't help but ask, "When was the last time you ate?"
Danny paused, "Three days-ish. I think." He shrugged, "I'm not really sure."
Sam stared, "Three days?!"
"Yep."
Sam and Dean shared a look. Bobby's right, this kid is way too calm about food. He's either been starved by his family or on the road for a long time. Dean stood to leave, "Hey kid; you want anything to drink?"
Danny seemed to notice the new tension permeating the room, "Uh...yeah. Can I get some water?"
"Sure thing."
Dean turned to leave with Bobby following. Sam had no doubt that the kid's water would have a holy kick to it.
"You willing to talk more about why you're here?" It was a long shot, but Sam thought he would try.
"No."
Sam sighed, "Can you answer two questions at least? They're yes or no."
"...Okay."
"Did you run away because your home is dangerous?"
Danny nodded.
"Is someone after you?"
Sam watched as Danny stiffened, obviously uncomfortable, "You don't have to answer if yo-"
"Yes."
