Chapter 2
Arizona arrived home exhausted. It had now been 6 weeks since Sofia and Callie had left to go to New York, and 4 weeks since she had seen her daughter in person. She missed them, she missed popping to day care after 4 when Sofia got there, she missed ice cream and Disney movie nights, she missed having someone ask her about her day, she missed Callie cooking, she missed Callie singing in the shower, she missed her family.
Entering the kitchen, she decided to forgo cooking instead she'd eat the doughnut she had brought for lunch. That was another disadvantage of Sofia moving away, there was nobody to cook for and Arizona often thought it wasn't worth the effort of cooking something healthy when it was just her.
Sitting on the couch, she relieved her leg, sighing with relief, as she felt the pressure ease. Her stump wasn't too bad, slightly red, it had been rubbing lately, which meant it was probably time to get it checked. If she had to guess it was from her weight loss. Without her family it was harder to find the motivation to look after herself, and whenever she was stressed Arizona always lost her appetite.
Her phone rang interrupting her thoughts. It was Callie,
"Hey Callie, is Sofia okay?" she asked, checking her watch, New York was 3 hours ahead of Seattle, and it was 1900 Seattle time.
"Sofia is fine, she wrote a story and wanted to read it to you" Callie explained,
"Callie, its 2200, isn't she in bed?" Arizona replied confused, she'd spoken to Sofia already at lunchtime like normal,
"Just listen" Callie pleaded, Arizona nodded, not that they could see.
"Mommy, I wrote a story, Mama helped" Sofia came on the line, Arizona could tell it was on speaker by the tone of her voice,
"You did, wow, I can't wait to hear it" Arizona praised, her heart filling with love.
"Once upon the time, there was a princess, a fairy and a queen" Sofia began, Arizona gave a soft smile, Sofia loved those characters, she knew it was about her family, that didn't explain why she was calling so late but if Callie was happy to deal with the tired cranky child tomorrow Arizona was happy to listen.
"And the Queen and the Princess moved away from the fairy, cus the bad magic was making the fairy sad and that was making the Queen and the Princess sad. But the Queen and the Princess missed the fairy, lots and lots," there was whispering on the phone "I forgot"
"Its okay, so the Princess and the Queen decided they didn't want to be apart from the fairy" Callie's calm voice came on the phone. Arizona listened confused, what were they saying, "And that they were stronger together, that they made each other happy and being together was the best magic that existed."
"What are you staying?" Arizona asked her voice wavering,
"Open the door" Callie replied, confused Arizona stood using her crutches, and hobbled to the door. She opened it and was nearly knocked off her feet by the excited 5-year-old
"Mommy surprise" Sofia screamed jumping into Arizona's arms, just jumping trusting her mommy to catch her, panicked Arizona dropped the crutches, and began tumbling feeling strong arms grab her and hold her steady.
"Sofia" Callie admonished,
"Sorry but I missed mommy so much" Sofia said still clinging to Arizona like a monkey.
"Well let go and you can cuddle her on the sofa" Callie encouraged. Sofia released Arizona immediately running to the sofa.
"Hurry mommy" she shouted,
"Hurry mommy" Callie repeated, bending down picking up her crutches, confused Arizona hopped to the sofa, cuddling her daughter,
"How long are you back for?" Arizona asked nervously, as she ran her fingers through her daughter's soft hair,
"Forever, if you will have us" Callie shifted nervously.
"What about Penny?" Arizona asked, Penny was Callie's true love, she'd made Callie move when Arizona couldn't.
"Gone, I didn't love Penny, I only love you, I moved away from you, I moved to the other side of the country and every day I missed you. I wanted to show you something or ask if you liked something. Then I heard the story you told Sofia, and you said you loved the Queen, and I realised I loved you, but if I am way off base, just say" Callie bit her lip nervously, twiddling her fingers. Arizona nodded, tears in her eyes, leaning forwards careful not to dislodge Sofia she took Callie's hands in her own,
"I love you" she settled on saying, "I love you so much and if you are willing to give me a second, third, fourth chance my answer is yes" Arizona said, she hesitated but took a risk leaning forwards and was rewarded with a kiss.
"Can we sleepover?" Sofia asked, "Please, I miss mommy and I love mama"
Arizona raised an eyebrow, there was nothing more she would love than spending the night with her family, but didn't want Callie to feel suffocated. To her relief Callie nodded,
"Grab your bag go and get your jammies on" Callie ordered, Sofia ran to obey scared that one of her parents would change their mind.
"I know we have a lot to talk about, but I love you, and you love me, we're a happy family
with a great big hug and a kiss from me to you won't you say you love me too?" Callie begged, Arizona frowned.
"Isn't that from Barney?" she questioned,
"Busted, but it fits" Callie leant forwards capturing her ex-wives lips, "How about this, I don't need a lot to be happy, but I know, I do need you and Sofia" she said.
"That's better" Arizona returned the kiss.
They had a long way to go, but what was most important was they were together, on the same page willing to forgive and willing to move on.
….
"That's when the Queen and the fairy, sat down with the wise owl. They talked a lot, and the more they talked the weaker the bad magic from the evil enchantress got. Then they realised the Princess, she made the magic stronger, and that they had so much love to give."
"So, they gave the Princess a baby" Sofia interrupted, Arizona paused, that wasn't quite what had happened, "And the good magic was so strong, she got two" Sofia continued, "And the Princess got 2 elves,"
"Elves?"
"Uh huh, or Pixies" Sofia decided looking at her little brothers,
"I was thinking Prince's" Arizona replied, not sure she liked her sons being described as Pixies or elves"
"But mommy, Princes are handsome, and there bald, and wrinkly and poop lots" Sofia moaned,
"So did you when you were there age, but you were always my little Princess, just like Timmy and Marcus are my little Princes."
"And mama is the Queen"
"And mama is the Queen" Arizona agreed, lifting her blonde haired blue eyed little boy out the crib, to nurse him.
After getting their relationship on track Arizona had begged Callie to let her try and carry their baby, Arizona was desperate to carry Callie's child, Callie desperately wanted a mini-Arizona, they had compromised, getting Addison to harvest both of their eggs, implanting 4 into Arizona using the same male donor. A blonde-haired blue-eyed science teacher. For once the universe worked with them giving them twins, one from Callie's egg, Marcus and one from Arizona's egg, Timmy.
"And then they all live happily ever after" Arizona finished.
