Ruthari Week 2022 Day 1 - Battle Couple
I Worry Too
"And up again!" Ethari groaned as his boyfriend pulled him back to his feet after he had fallen onto the forest ground.
"Ugh! You've knocked me down five times already! Why are you even so set up teaching me combat moves anyway?" he asked Runaan, feeling torn between feeling envious and swooning at how the other elf looked as prestine and graceful and always despite he himself being a sweaty mess.
"Ethari, you need to learn this." Runaan insisted with a small frown.
"But why?!" Ethari whined as he pouted.
"You need to be able to defend yourself. I worry too, you know." Runaan sighed and Ethari right away dropped the whiny act.
"What? What do you worry about?" he asked worriedly.
"You." Runaan gestured to Ethari, "When I'm on my missions I worry about you too, knowing I can't be there in case something happens." he explained.
"Just last week when you are on your way home from the market some drunk tried to rob you! I just want you to be as safe as possible and even if something happens, be able to get out yourself out of whatever situation you're in." Runaan explained himself.
"I don't want to end up coming home one day to find something happened to you while I wasn't there." he almost whispered the last part, looking at his feet.
"Oh, Runaan..." Ethari sighed, moving over to hug the other.
"I'm sorry, love. I should have realized how you may feel when we're apart." he whispered, pressing a kiss to the other's forehead.
It honestly made sense.
Everyone who knew Runaan knew he was fiercely protectful of those close to him.
It even sometimes got to the point of getting himself in dangerous situations if it meant keeping his loved ones safe.
Of course he worried over Ethari when he wasn't with him, even if he was in the (usually) perfectly safe Silvergrove.
"Thank you for looking out for me, darling. I'll stop complaining." he promised.
"Oh, will you know?" Runaan raised an eyebrow, a playful glint in his eyes and Ethari grinned.
"Yes, I will! As a matter of fact, I'll start putting so much effort in all combat training that I'll have surpassed you in no time!" he declared passionately, pointing a finger the the sky for emphasis.
"Surpass me?"
"Indeed! I will become so skilled that you will be begging me to come along on your missions! I can help you lead the others and we'll be known as Silvergrove's amazing battle couple, known for our skills and love!" Ethari waved his arms around dramatically.
"Hmmm... I must say it sounds quite tempting, having you with me all the time and working in unity but there's one little problem." Runaan pretended to think it over before pouting in mock-disappointment.
"An assassin has to be stealthy, 'Thari. We need to be light on out feet and quiet and you, my darling moon, are as quiet as a banther after drinking Lain's homemaid mead." he chuckled as Ethari's outraged face.
"I can be quiet! I'm just not so light on my feet and that's only because of these muscles! Besides, I've never heard you complaining about them!" he flexed his arms, making his biceps bulge.
"Oh, I'm not complaining at all." Runaan answered smoothly as he drank in the sight of the other.
"Ah! Runaan!" Ethari blushed at the other openly checking him out.
They had only been together for a few months yet and he was still very easy to fluster.
Runaan chuckled at the smith and shook his head, "You're adorable."
"W-Why don't we get back to what we came here for? Can you show me that shoulder throw again?" Ethari huffed, getting a nod from the other and getting in position.
Seconds later his back his the found again, Runaan looming over him and pinning his arms down.
"Looks like I win." he grinned up at his lover.
"No, you don't. I have you pinned down." Runaan frowned back.
"Oh, on the contrary. That's exactly why I won." he answered smugly with a cheeky little wink, feeling a delightful sense of victory at seeing Runaan now be the one to blush as red as a moonberry.
Runaan's mouth opened and closed as he struggled to form a response until he finally gave up and hung his head with a sigh.
"You're a menace." he huffed, only adding to Ethari's amusement.
"But you love me~" he sang back.
Runaan rolled his eyes, though his mouth smiled back.
"Unfortunately I do." he admitted.
Ethari laughed loudly before pulling the other down for a kiss.
