A/N: So, I'm in my domestic era more than ever haha, and here I bring you another domestic fic. It has a second part that I'll surely publish next weekend. I hope you like this pile of fluffiness and, as always, sorry for my mistakes in the language. :)
Night
Like every night since they live in that house, Donna and Harvey go together to the bathroom before going to sleep. The bathroom in the bedroom is the largest in the house and has a double sink, so they use it together. They usually brush their teeth simultaneously and then, while Donna takes off her makeup, he puts cream on his face. He had done it just to stop listening to his wife's infinite arguments about why he should use it, but now he must recognize that he enjoys it, not so much because of the cream, but because that lengthens the little ritual that they share before going to bed. He also loves the little smile of satisfaction on his favorite redhead's lips every time he does it.
He always waits for her to finish rinsing her face with his palm on her lower back, kisses her on her nape, and then looks for her gaze in the mirror, to whisper to her: "I wait for you in bed, hurry up! It's cold without you." And no matter that he repeats that phrase every night, Donna's lips always draw a genuine smile. "I'll be there before you realize it." She responds, curling her arm to stroke his hair. Harvey nods as he gives her a kiss on her neck and retreats into the room.
Harvey closes the window blind in the room and turns on the bedside tables of both, then moves the cushions to open the covers and slides into the bed on the left side. His legs are usually covered and accommodate some cushions to sit comfortably. Then, he grabs his glasses and his book and sets out to read, unable to avoid looking up several times at his wife.
As soon as she finishes, she turns off the bathroom light and joins him, who upon seeing her approaching, opens the blankets next to him. Donna slips into the bed, also arranges some cushions so she can sit down and does the same as her husband, puts on her glasses, and grabs her book. Once she's comfortable, she slowly slides her foot until she reaches his, gently dropping her foot onto his, enjoying how the corners of his lips move upward.
It's a really enjoyable time for them. Share an activity that they both like in silence, with the bed slowly warming with the heat of their bodies, the slight physical contact, knowing that they will soon curl up in each other.
The first to desist from reading and not be able to resist having his wife by his side is Harvey, who leaves his book and glasses on one side and then turns his body toward her. "Please wait for the chapter to finish." She murmurs every night, even before he says anything. In that they are completely different, Harvey can pause his reading at any point in the book. Donna, true to her organized personality, needs to finish the chapter before closing the book until the next night. He has tried to convince her that nothing bad will happen if she pauses her reading before the chapter finishes, but he has already realized that it's a lost discussion, so he has learned to have patience. He simply approaches her, curling up against her, and drops his head on her shoulder. Donna kisses him on his forehead, while his arm wraps her down her belly and there they stay, as long as Donna takes her to finish her chapter. Harvey had tried to ask how many pages she was left, but that puts her in a bad mood, so he let life surprise him. Sometimes it was only a few minutes, others weren't so few. On the contrary, Donna always wants them to be enough because to be reading a book with her husband curled against her is at the top of her favorite sensations in the world.
When she finishes, she closes the book and leaves it on her bedside table, then wraps him with both arms and buries her nose in his hair, letting herself be flooded by his smell. He kisses her on her neck, always in the exact place that makes her hum his name, and then he gets up a little, takes away her glasses carefully, and then gives them to her and she leaves them above her book. They both turn off the lights and settle down facing each other on the bed, the tips of their toes pinking under the blankets.
They can't distinguish themselves right now in the dark, but they know it's a matter of minutes before their pupils get used to the darkness.
"Hey… I talked a lot about myself at dinner. How has your day gone?" he murmurs, his head resting on his arm, his hand falling just above her head, playing with her hair between his fingers.
She grins because she doesn't care that he talks about his day, actually; she enjoys it, but his question warms her heart. "I spent all day wanting to be like that with you." She murmurs after releasing a sigh.
"Rough day?"
"Does it have to be a hard day for me to want to be like this with my husband?" she rolls her eyes.
He smiles and shakes his head. "No, but your tone..."
She chuckles and purses her nose. "Well, it's true that on tough days, I wish a little more for this moment." She mutters, leaning her forehead against his. "But just works stress." She continues murmuring and closes her eyes, feeling Harvey's hand climb up her thigh to rest on her waist. "I don't want to think about that now."
"Sure? If you want–"
She interrupts him, bringing her body closer to him while surrounding him with her arms. "Sure." She still keeps her eyes closed, but feels him smiling. "Let's talk about something nicer." Her hand goes up his arm, her fingers sliding under the sleeve of his black t-shirt.
"About you?" he whispers, raising his hand on the side of her body to accommodate her hair behind her ear.
Donna can't help but smile, like a girl in love, opening her eyes. "Do you know you already have me in your fist almost 2 decades ago? You don't have to keep me falling in love with you."
He shrugs and kisses her on her nose. "And lose your smile every time I tell you something like that?" she smiles again, one that smiles where he can see also her eyes smiling. "See what I say?" Donna bites the side of her lower lip and feels blushing, so she hides under his chin, hugging him. "And if you then hug me like that... I will definitely not stop telling you nice things," he whispers in her ear, wrapping her in his arms.
"I love you for being a romantic comedy." She purrs, squeezing herself against him as he kisses her crown.
Harvey giggles against her hair and kisses her temple. "And I love you, smiling like in a romantic comedy," she smirks and separates a little from him, just enough to give him a kiss on his lips and snuggle against him again, who lures her until he is on top of his body. Harvey still holds her by her back and she has her forehead against his shoulder. "Hey..."
"Hmm?" she mutters.
"Have you been able to resolve your appointment with your ophthalmologist?"
"Yep, I must go next week."
"Good…" he responds and kisses the side of her face.
"And you have made an appointment with your kinesiologist?"
"I've done it." He responds. "But I think having you there should be more effective for my shoulder than the doctor."
Donna chuckles and kisses him on his shoulder, then she rests her hands on his chest to raise her torso and looks at him. "If we don't talk about work… are we talking about medical appointments?" She giggles. "We're getting old, Harvey."
Harvey giggles as well. "Well... we are not getting younger. But you're right. Let's talk about something more fun."
"Hmm..." she squints her eyes and twists the corner of her lips. "You still owe me one breakfast and a new handbag."
"Excuse me... I said something more fun. Or was I wrong in my words?"
"Going to breakfast with me is not fun?" she purses her nose.
"Yes, but the handbag thing isn't that fun... I have waited more than an hour while you choose. And you know I'm not exaggerating."
"But... doesn't it even remind you of the old times?"
"Yes, but I prefer these times." He responds with a slight expression of happiness on his face, as he drags his palms down her back, watching as another pleasant smile draws on his wife's lips.
"Well, me too... I can't deny it." She responds, rubbing behind his ear with her fingertips. "But you've wanted to bet that."
"No, I had bet that you would come to play baseball with me. Just... that I lost."
"As always, you lose." She chuckles, and he rolls her eyes.
"Someday I'll win a bet."
"Yes, of course..." she squints her eyes. "I can put up with the urge to have sex with you. You're not as irresistible as you think." She says, imitating her husband's voice. "It was only necessary for me to speak in your ear... I didn't even finish bringing my hand to your dick." She laughs and Harvey is trying to hold the laugh, but it's useless.
"You are irresistible."
"Oh, I know that..." she says, and winks at him. "That's why I earned one breakfast and a new handbag."
"I know, you'll have your prize... I just thought maybe it's a delightful idea to do it in a couple of weeks when we're in New York. We could go to the place we used to go."
She grins. "And then have dinner at Del Posto?"
"If any of the nights we will be there, we have no plans with the people there…"
"I'll make sure that one day is just for us. Okay?" she says and gives him a brief kiss.
He smirks. "Okay." He answers and now he kisses her. Then, Donna rolls to be next to him again.
"Sorry, my neck was already hurting." She murmurs, putting her head into his pillow, into the gap between his head and shoulder.
"We're getting old." He giggles against her hair, dropping his relaxed hand on her abdomen, a little below her breasts.
"Keep calling me old and you'll be owing me two handbags instead of one." She says, trying to sound serious, dragging her fingers over his palm. Harvey wants to answer, but she interrupts him before he talks. "Well... I don't know what surprises me if you called me old the first morning together." She snorts.
"Oh God, are you still upset with it?" he chuckles.
"Neither is younger." She growls, quoting his words, but continues to caress his hand fondly, her fingers dancing down his palm and even reaching his wrist, her thumb moving in circles there. "Will you still love me when I'm all wrinkled and full of drool? Probably my hair won't longer be red either."
"Of course, I will." He responds immediately. "And you to me?"
"I don't think a few wrinkles and some drool are worse than more than a decade putting up with you and your stubbornness, so of course, I will." The two chuckle and he kisses her hair, enjoying the pleasant sensation that her caresses on his hand generate in his body.
"It relaxes me a lot when you do that." He murmurs.
"I know." She smiles. "That's why I do it." She adds, the tips of her fingers following imaginary lines in his palm. "You need to relax… the pain in that shoulder hasn't come back just because we're old."
He sighs. "I know... I didn't feel so much stress from working since we lived in New York."
"I know… Neither do I." She sighs and closes her eyes. "It's ironic that we're going to New York for a few days because we need to relax after this case."
"Yes, you are right." He responds and turns his body a little towards her, bringing his free hand to her arm. His fingers begin to gently crawl from her wrist to her elbow and vice versa.
"Hey… That's relaxing too." She mutters with a slight smile on her lips.
"You need to relax, too." He whispers and she nods. They sigh at the same time and let the silence, along with the darkness and warmth of their bodies, besides the pleasant sensation in their skin, relax them.
Harvey is the one who interrupts because he needs to go to the bathroom before falling asleep and then she imitates him. As soon as the two are back in bed, she cuddles in his chest, one of her arms crossing over his abdomen and her head just below his chin.
"Just for a while." She murmurs, feeling how he wraps her. "I know that if we fall asleep like this, tomorrow we won't be able to move." He chuckles against her hair.
"You can sleep. I'll move you later."
"You also have to—"
"Sleep…" he murmurs, lifting one of his hands to her hair. "I know I won't fall asleep until I solve something in my mind… so sleep here. I know you like to sleep like this. Then I'll move you.."
"Okay, but... don't take long. You need to sleep too."
"Promise."
"I love you..." she murmurs, allowing herself to relax in his arms. She deeply loves falling asleep on him. Nothing gives her more peace in the world than that.
"I love you too." He murmurs, his fingers gently massaging her nape. "Relax..."
Donna nods and says nothing more, just keeps herself cuddling into him, while her breathing becomes heavier and heavier, feeling how in tune, with the air coming and going out of his lungs, his chest rises and falls below her. The feeling of their bodies synchronizing and him holding her affectionately close to him is all she needs to fall asleep in a few minutes.
Harvey enjoys feeling his wife's body so relaxed on top of him. That helps him relax and also think better… he finally comes up with the idea he needed to solve what had kept him stressed all day, but he doesn't want to move her away from him, so he stays a few more minutes there, with her still on him, caressing her hair, feeling her breathing. As if Donna knows they are about to move away a little, she clings tighter to him and that makes him smile. "Hey... don't worry, I won't go far from here. I'll sleep with you tonight and all the others." She grins, although she isn't conscious and surely tomorrow she won't remember it and loosens her grip on him a little. Harvey takes advantage of it to guide her carefully under his body, but without letting her go too far. Then, he arranges the blankets to cover her better and runs a strand of hair that had fallen on her face. Donna stretches her hand, looking for him and he smirks, taking her hand with his as he lies down in front of her. They lie on the side of their bodies, their knees slightly bent, their hands in the middle, their fingers rubbing against each other. Harvey closes his eyes and although it costs him a little more work than her, he also falls asleep.
Thank you very much for having come this far. If you can tell me what you think about it, you would make me smile :)
