Chapter Two:
Back at Green Gables, excitement was in the air! Anne's 16th birthday was coming up, and although this meant Marilla and Mathew were losing more of their daughter, they couldn't wait to see what she would do one day.
Figuring out what kind of a present to get Anne was hard. She was a very hard person to shop for. She never really talked about things she wanted; the exception being a puffed sleeve dress.
Even though she was grateful for all she had, it was still very hard.
Marilla was busy baking the cake and decorating it before Anne got home so she could stash it away until the next day — her birthday.

At the school house, everyone was shocked to find that their new teacher was a woman.
Feminism wasn't a huge thing in Avonlea. The Progressive Mothers group was basically it. Everyone was stuck in the old ways.
Anne was thrilled to see a woman teacher.
You could say it sparked something in her and she knew right then and there what she wanted to be.
"Well hello everyone!" she exclaimed. "My name is Ms. Stacy and I'm very eager to learn all of yours!"
Anne quickly stood up, not realizing her dress was caught on the desk seat, and it ripped. She was horrified. *Billy of course was the first person to burst out laughing.
The rest of the boys followed suit, but not Gilbert.
"Haha! The ugly Orphan ripped her dress! What's she going to do now? She's too poor to get a new one!"
"Stop it Billy!" Jane chimed in. "You're such an idiot."
"Alright alright! That's enough!" Turning to Anne, Ms. Stacy asked, "Let's go talk outside, shall we?" Anne just nodded, too shocked to speak.
—
Gilbert was furious. He had warned Billy to stop bullying Anne awhile ago. He couldn't stand it when anyone was being mean to anyone, but it really hit him when they were being mean to Anne.
All the other students had formed their groups and started talking again, so Gilbert took this opportunity to go and talk to Diana.
He didn't really know her very well, but he knew that she and Anne were close.
It took Gilbert a minute to get her attention because she was worried about Anne. "Diana? Diana?" "Oh. Hi Gilbert. What are you doing here?"
"Um, well I was just checking to make sure Anne was ok after what just happened. Did she say anything to you before they went outside?"
"No… but why are you so interested? I thought you guys didn't like each other." Diana was grinning.
Gilbert blushed. He tried to hide it, but Diana was quick to understand what was going on.
"Eeeeeeek!"
Diana squealed a little too loud because right then everyone's heads turned to stare at Diana and Gilbert.
"What're you guys doing over there? Having a private conversation? How romantic!!" Ruby announced.
Right as Ruby was talking, Anne and Ms. Stacy walked in. Anne didn't look happy.
Ok so I know that Billy isn't in school on this timeline in the show, but just go with it!
Thanks for the review!*
