"Hello Drew," a silky voice called out to her. With a puff of perfume, her mother, Aphrodite, appeared. She was, same as always, dressed beautifully. With her hair tied into a high ponytail, and her pink lipstick matching her heels, she was the exact definition of the word 'perfect'.
But Drew was in no mind to care about her mother's outfit. She was more worried as to why she was summoned in her sleep. Her mother was not the kind to pop in for a chat with her children.
"Mother," she greeted, bowing elegantly. "Is there anything you need?"
"I would like to talk about your," she took time to think for the right word. "behavior these days." She explained in a neutral expression. Drew gulped in fear. "Have a seat." She waved her hand a table full of desert and tea, along with 2 chairs, materialized next to them. She sat down gracefully, and looked at Drew expectantly.
"What are you waiting for? Sit down." Drew followed the orders, and sat down slowly, eyes never leaving her mother.
"So about how you did this past couple of months…I would say that your actions do not meet my standards." At this, Drew flinched. "Your makeup is becoming more and more light. What did I say about beauty?"
"To look perfect, but not like plastic. To not overdo makeup, but not do too less either," Drew replied dully. Aphrodite raised an eyebrow.
"You see? This is whats causing your downfall. You no longer follow my orders, nor do you take my advise. What happened to the perfect daughter who followed my every move?"
"She disappeared," Drew muttered to herself.
"Excuse me?"
"Well, no one liked me that way. Everyone hated me so I thought 'why not just give up on your orders and just do what I want'?"
"You ungrateful little brat! I gave orders to you for your own good, and what do you do? You throw them into the back of your mind because you wanted to!" Aphrodite snarled at Drew, who backed up onto her chair.
"You should learn more from Piper. She follows my advise, and manages to look prettier than any of you can, and will ever be."
"But she disregards your orders mother!" Drew said, in attempt to save herself. "She doesn't even wear makeup properly. And her clothings are all rubbish!"
"Well at least she looks perfect and got herself a handsome boyfriend, unlike you," Aphrodite shot back.
"Well your standards are too high! You only say Piper is perfect because she's your favorite. Do you know how hard the rest of us work to get your attention and approval, only for this new girl to beat us all?" By then, tears were gathering around her eyes, but her mother saw them as a sign of weakness.
"Don't show your emotions Drew!" She snapped. "And so what if I like Piper more? She's better than all of you combined!"
"We spent so much time picking our outfits, doing our makeup, just to be perfect like you mother! Please…" Drew sobbed out loud now, but her mother didn't care.
"Well do better then! Because the current you is not enough for my praise and approval." After saying her last words, Aphrodite disappeared just like how she came. The dream faded away into the darkness, and Drew curled up into a ball, sobbing quietly. And that was how her siblings found her in the morning, with her pillows wet and her eyes red and puffy.
