Everyone is familiar with the concepts of Dreams and Reality, mind and matter, but what lies between those planes of existence? The answer is The Velvet Room. A place in-between Imagination and Reality normally inaccessible to anyone without an invitation. In the summer of 2010, someone managed to get into The Velvet Room without having been invited, and that someone was something that hadn't appeared in over 50 years.
A Planeswalker. An individual born with the ability to enter the planes of existence beyond the Material World, usually by separating their Mind and Soul from their physical Body. While the particular Planeswalker wasn't the first to be able to do so, they (or rather she) was the first Planeswalker in over 1000 years to be able to travel between the planes of existence without having to leave their physical Body behind, being able to physically travel between the planes of existence. The Planeswalker's name was Holly Potter, who accidentally entered The Velvet Room during a moment of great stress after being locked up in the cupboard under the stairs and left alone in the house during a particularly hot day at the age of 5.
Stating that the young Planeswalker was surprised when she was no longer in the cupboard under the stairs but in a mysterious room that seemed to be one of many at a hotel with an overall blue color scheme. While the overall color scheme was interesting, the various individuals in the room were what really caught young Holly's attention. Individuals who seemed to be related to one another in various ways and degrees. To say that they seemed very surprised and alarmed by Holly's appearance was quite the understatement, especially when a few of them had pulled various dangerous things from out of nowhere, most notably the rather young looking girl who had pulled out a chainsaw. If the fact that the chainsaw wasn't on, but the wielder did have her hand on the cord, ready to pull it and start the engine, was any indication, the apparent residents were weary of the Planeswalker's presence, but wouldn't attack unless provoked. Gulping nervously, the young Planeswalker gave the group a shy wave.
"Hi." The shy greeting prompted the group to look at one another, as if having a silent conversation, which didn't last long as one of them turned their attention towards the young child in the room.
"Greetings. Who are you and how did you get here?" Replied a member of the group, more specifically the girl with the chainsaw, who shifted into a more relaxed posture, indicated by her planting the chainsaw into the floor by the blade and leaning against the engine of the chainsaw (which Holly absentmindedly noted was encased in a blue casing), while also taking note of the very tired-looking expression on the young girl's face.
"My name is Holly. Holly Potter. And I'm not entirely sure how I got here. I don't even know where 'here' is."
"I see. This place lies in-between the planes of Mind…"
"And Matter…"
"Dream…"
"And Reality."
"It doesn't really have a name, but some of us tend to call it The Gap." Replied the various residents of the place they called The Gap, each one of them picking up on each other's cue to continue and eventually finish the sentence.
"What?"
"Hmm. Has your surroundings suddenly changed to different ones or at least a nigh-identical one with perhaps some difference in the past?" Asked the resident of The Gap leaning on her chainsaw.
"Yeah, so?"
"It means that you're a Planeswalker. And a powerful one at that, evidenced by the fact that you don't show any of the tells of you not physically entering this plane of existence. In other words, you physically entered this place without leaving your physical Body behind."
"I understood, like less than half of that."
"Lavenza, you do realize that most of what you just said went over the girl's head, right?"
"I agree with Elizabeth, the girl doesn't seem to understand what you're talking about."
"While I two find myself agreeing with Elizabeth's assessment, Theodore, the important question is what are we going to do with her?"
"I'm standing right here, you know." Not-really deadpanned Holly in response to the residents of The Gap, whom she now knew the names of with the exception being the seemingly oldest one, while starting to sway in place in what was clearly exhaustion.
"Ah. Apologies. It wasn't our intention to ignore you but it is an important question-" the seemingly oldest one of the residents of The Gap didn't get to finish what she was about to say due to the girl she was talking to collapsing forward and into Lavenza's arms due to the seemingly youngest resident of The Gap being the one to rush over and catch the young Planeswalker.
"Okay? That just happened, now what?"
"Put her on the couch and let her sleep while we discuss what to do with her?"
"Sounds like a plan Theodore, but… a little help here please?"
