Everyone has a story to tell… and everyone has up’s and downs. Sad Faces: Seasons takes on new and Canon characters as we explore their ups and downs through everyday life.

Chapter 1: Winton

Winton, an English Bulldog, age six, sat down with his class while listening to a story book that his Teacher Calypso was reading. Winton listened very carefully to the story as it was about two sisters who trap their parents into getting back together. After the story was finished parents started to pick up their kids from school. Winton was eating a snack just as his mother picked him up. "Hey sweetie," Winton's mum said with a soft smile. "Hi mum!" Winton said happily with a smile. "Are you ready to go?" His mother asked. "Yeah!" Winton said as he got up from his spot and followed his mother out to her car. "Did you have a good day at school?" His mother asked. "I did!" Winton said with a smile. "That's good! What did you do today?" Winton's mum asked while starting the car. "We made some art and crafts and listened to a storybook," Winton explained as they started to drive off.

"That's nice sweetie," his mother said while driving. Winton then looked out the window and watched as they passed cars along the way to Winton's dad's house. Once there at Winton's dad's house. Winton and his mum walked up to the house and knocked on the door. Bert, Winton's dad answered the door. "Hey sweetheart," Bert said to his son. "Hi dad!" Winton said with a smile as he hugged his dad and then went into the house. "Amber," Bert said looking at his ex wife. "Bert," Amber said while crossing her arms. They stared at each other and then Amber sighed. "Bath before seven and please help him with reading," Amber said looking at Bert. "Sure thing, and you should know I do know how to handle how son," Bert said looking at his ex wife. Amber nodded "good have a good night then," Amber said before looking behind her ex husband to see her son. "Alright Winton, I will see you Sunday, okay sweetie?" Amber said with a warm smile.

"Okay mum!" Winton said with a smile as he waved at his mother. After Amber left, Bert shut the door. "Alright Winton, shall we get started on some reading before I start dinner?" Bert asked his son. "Yeah!" Winton said with a smile. "Alright go pick out a book and we'll get started," Bert said with a smile. "Okay!" Winton said as he went to his room and picked a book that he wanted to read with his dad. After Winton picked a book and brought it back to his dad they both sat down on the couch in the front room. They started reading a book called mouse mess. Bert helped his son with words he couldn't read but Winton was doing a great job overall. After they read the book Bert then got up and started to make dinner for him and his son.

Winton kept reading on his own while his dad was making dinner. Once dinner was done Winton place his book away and joined his dad at the table for dinner. "So son! How was school?" Bert asked while started to eat. "It was fun! We did some arts and crafts today," Winton said as he started eating. "That sounds like fun! Anything else?" Bert asked his son. "Um… oh! Bluey's brother is coming here from the states!" Winton added. "Oh really? I didn't know she had a brother. Is he older or younger?" Bert asked his son. "He's older, she said he has a different mum than her," Winton explained. "Oh same dad, different mum huh?" Bert asked while taking a bit of his food. "Yeah, dad?" Winton asked while looking at his dad. "Yes mate?" Bert asked his son while looking at him. "How does that work? If Bluey has a brother but they don't have the same mum?" Winton asked before taking a bite of his food. "Oh! Well her dad must have had a previous relationship before he had Bluey," Bert explained to his son.

"So… he had a wife before being with Bluey's mum?" Winton asked while taking a drink of his milk. "Probably, that's the way I would think," Bert said while continuing to eat. "Do you think you and mum will get back together?" Winton asked, looking at his dad. Bert nearly choked on his food when asked that question. "Wintion sweetheart that chapter with your mum is over mate," Bert said, rubbing the back of his neck. "It is?" Winton asked with a sad look on his face. "Yeah I'm sorry kiddo," Bert said looking down from his son. "So… a parent trap won't work?" Winton asked, looking down at his food. "I'm sorry mate but not even that would work," Bert said looking at his son. Winton nodded and continued to eat his food. After dinner Winton had his bath and then went to bed. Bert read his son a story and then it was lights out,

Winton was sound asleep as Bert went to the kitchen and made some tea. He then went to the living room, sat down in his chair and started to drink his hot tea. Bert then grabbed a photo album and looked at all the pictures inside of it. Most of the pictures were of Winton when he was just a little baby and some were family pictures. He teared up while looking at the family pictures that he still held on to. Bert finished his tea and placed his photo album back on his bookshelf. He then yawned and went to his room where he would go to bed for the night.

Amber was out on a date with her co-worker and now boyfriend when they both started to really like each other. "Everything okay Amber?" Apollo, a black German shepherd, asked his date. "Oh! Yeah I'm okay," Amber said blushing while looking down at her drink. "Oh yeah? You've been a little distracted for a bit," Apollo said, concerned for Amber. "I'm sorry Apollo, I know it's been nine months since the divorice but it's still more hurtful than to go through," Amber said while taking a drink.

"I get it, it's been two years since I was divorced and I still think about the good times I had with my ex wife but we made a decision that it was best to be apart since we hated fighting in front of our son," Apollo explained. "Bert and I hated that too. It really was confusing for our son," Amber said. "Is Bert dating again?" Apollo asked while taking a drink of his water. "Actually he is, her name is Dani," Amber answered, "That's nice I guess we're all in the same boat," Apollo said with a chuckle.

"She is a nice dog. I did meet her," Amber said while taking a drink. Apollo then cuddled up against her. "How's Winton taking it?" Apollo asked. "He's adjusting. It's not easy for him, it's not easy for any child," Amber said looking down. "One of Winton's friends' dad went through a divorce and he didn't take it very well," Amber said while taking another drink. Apollo nodded. "Oh! I think our dinner is here," Apollo said as he went to the front door. Amber smiled as she walked her boyfriend to the door and got their dinner. Apollo was a good boyfriend and Devoted father to two kids of his own.

"This takeaway smells amazing!" Apollo said as brought in the bag of their food and placed it down on the coffee table. "Are you ready to eat darling?" Apollo asked as he sat down and looked at his girlfriend. "I am and this does smell amazing," Amber said with a smile as Apollo opened up the bag and then the boxes the food came in. "Would you like to watch a movie while we eat?" Apollo asked while looking at Amber. "That would be nice," Amber said with a smile. Apollo smiled with a nod and then turned on the TV while looking for a movie for them both to watch. Amber smiled while taking a bite of her food while waiting for a movie to be turned on the TV.

The next morning, Winton woke to the smell of Brekkie being made by his father. Winton then got out of his bed and made his bed before heading to the kitchen where his father was. "Hey dad!" Winton said as he sat at the table. "Hey mate!" Bert said as he looked at his son. "Are you ready for Brakkie?" Bert asked his son. "Yeah!" Winton said excitedly. "Two pancakes coming right up!" Bert said happily. "Yeah!" Winton said while waiting for his breakfast. It was long before Bert had placed down some pancakes for himself and his son. They both ate breakfast together just when Bert got a text from Dani. He checked his phone and smiled at the lovely good morning she had sent to him. Bert then looked at his son which sparked an idea for him.

"Hey Winton?" Bert asked, "yeah dad?" Winton asked while looking at his dad. "Would you like to go to the park and have a picnic with Dani?" Bert asked nervously. "Your special friend Dani?" Winton asked while eating. "Y-yeah," Bert replied again, very nervous about his son's feelings for his girlfriend. "Okay," Winton said while drinking his juice. "Does that sound good to you?" Bert asked, tilting his head to the left. "Yeah it does," Winton said as he finished his food. "Great! I'll take your plate mate," Bert said as he took his son's plate and then his plate and washed them. "When are we going?" Winton asked while looking at his father. "We will leave here in about an hour, so why don't you go play for a bit," Bert said while putting dishes in the dishwasher. "Okay dad!" Winton said as he got down from the chair at the table and then went to his room.

Winton, now In his room, started to play with some legos that his parents had gotten him over the years. About an hour later, Bert came into his son's room. "Are you ready, Winton?" Bert asked his son with a smile. Winton turned and looked at his father with a smile. "Yeah I'm ready dad!" Winton said as he cleaned up his legos and then joined his father. Bert and Winton went to the car and drove to the park where they would meet Dani. Winton looked out the window happily while his father drove the distance to the park. "I packed some of your favorite things to eat mate! And a coloring book with some colored pencils," Bert said while driving with a warm smile. Winton looked at his dad with a smile and was very excited. "Thanks dad!" Winton said before looking back out the window.

Not long later the car came to a stop as they reached their destination. Bert then grab all the things that they needed for their picnic and then helped his son out of the car. "Is Dani here?" Winton asked, looking up at his dad. "Not yet but she will join us soon kiddo," Bert replied to his son as they walked to the playground. Bert then started to set up the picnic underneath a tree where there was shade. Winton then went to the playground and started to play, even Mackenzie was at the park with his mum. Bert sat down in the shade and watched his son for a bit. Not long later Dani had come up to the English Bulldog with a wide smile on her face. "Hi honey how are you," Dani said as she kissed her boyfriend on the cheek.

"I'm good, how are you?" Bert asked as Dani sat down next to him. "I'm good, I bought some cheese and crackers, I thought Winton would like," Dani said as she cuddled against her boyfriend. "He loves cheese and crackers! He'll be happy with those," Bert said as he cuddled her. Meanwhile Winton and Mackenzie were swinging on the swings "are you okay Winton?" Mackenzie asked. "Yeah, it's just a little confusing still with my parents seeing other people," Winton said looking down. "Is there anything I can do to help?" Mackenzie asked. "I don't think so, your parents are still together and mine… they're not," Winton said looking down. "How long has it been since your parents aren't together anymore?" Mackenzie asked. "About a year now I think," Winton said while looking at Mackenzie.

"Do you like the people that they are with?" Mackenzie asked while they stopped swinging "I do, Apollo is funny and makes my mum happy and Dani also makes my dad happy and she makes good homemade pizza," Winton said happily. "Both my mum and dad said that if the person that they were dating didn't like me then they would stop seeing them," Winton explained. "Do they like you?" Mackenzie asked, looking at Winton. "Yeah, they both have said they wanted my Approval before going any further with my mum or my dad," Winton said, getting off the swing. "Can I give you some advice, Winton?" Mackenzie asked. "Sure!" Winton said, looking at Mackenzie with a smile. "I think these dogs really do love you like their own and I know me saying this might not mean a thing but I hope things can get better if you have an open mind about it," Mackenzie said, placing his hand on Winton's shoulder.

Winton looked past Mackenzie and saw how happy Dani was making his dad. Winton smiled. "Thanks Mackenzie, I just my parents to be happy and I want to be happy too, maybe they both will find happiness like Bluey's dad," Winton said with a smile. Mackenzie smiled at that. "Yeah maybe they will," Mackenzie said. "Winton! Are you ready to eat son?" Bert called out to Winton. "Coming dad!" Winton said "do you want to eat with us Mackenzie? My dad brought plenty of food," Winton asked before going to his dad and Dani.

"That's okay Winton, my mum actually has a picnic waiting for me too," Mackenzie said with a smile. "Okay, thanks again Mackenzie!" Winton said with a smile before running to his father and his fathers girlfriend. "Hey mate, did you have fun with Mackenzie?" Bert asked his son with a smile. "I did! Hi Dani!" Winton said as he sat down on the blanket. "Hi Winton, I brought Cheese and Crackers For you if you would like," Dani said with a smile. "Oh! that's my favorite!" Winton said happily while wagging his little tail. Dani then brought out the cheese and crackers while Bert took out the coloring book and colored pencils and placed them next to Winton before starting to make them all sandwiches. Winton started to color while eating his snack. Dani watched him color and smiled while he did.

After lunch and another hour of playing. It was time to go home, Bert had cleaned up everything and then called to his son to head to the car. "Are you ready mate?" Bert asked his son. "Yeah!" Winton said, running up to his father. "Dad?" Winton asked, looking at his father. "Yes sweetheart?" Bert asked. "Can Dani come over for dinner tonight?" Winton asked. Bert and Dani looked at each other to which Dani smiled. "I don't have anything planned," Dani replied. "Alright! It's a date!" Bert said with a wink. "Hooray!" Winton cheered. "Then I will see you two around six," Dani said as she started walking to her car with Winton and Bert following behind her. They walked her to her car and then went to their car where they would go to the store for some groceries for dinner they would have that night.

Now back at home Bert puts the groceries away and they wait for a bit to get started. It's now close to five and Bert gets started on dinner as he makes his special steaks and potatoes for dinner. Winton was coloring in the living room until he heard a knock on the door. "Mate, could you get that," Bert asked. "Okay dad," Winton said as he stood up and went to the door. Once Winton opened the door and saw Dani, he smiled and wagged his tail. "Hi Dani you look really pretty tonight," Winton said with a smile "thank you," Dani said with a smile. "Come in! Dinner is almost ready!" Winton said letting Dani inside the house. Not longer later dinner was ready with the English Bulldogs having dinner with their guest and having a great time at dinner.

Two days later….

Winton was drawing on a piece of paper for free tile while the other kids played. Bluey happened to walk by Winton and looked down at his drawing "what are you drawing Winton?" Bluey asked, still looking down at the picture. "You know how you said your brother was coming from the USA?" Winton asked while drawing. "Yeah?" Bluey replied. "Well, my dad said that your dad had a previous relationship before he was with your mum which means there's extended family," Winton said while continuing to draw. "Yeah I know that," Bluey said as Winton was done drawing. "Well this is my dad's special friend Dani and my mum's special friend Apollo! I drew all of us together as extended family!" Winton said with a smile. "Oh! That's nice!" Bluey said while wagging her tail. Bluey then came to wonder what life would have been like if she got to meet her brothers mum. "Maybe I'll have to ask my dad what Thomas's mum was like," Bluey said as she then started to make a picture of herself and her family including Emily. "You should! I like both of my parents' special friends!" Winton said as he got another piece of paper and started drawing with Bluey.
