The castle was far bigger than their mansion, nothing in Munchkinland was near that size.
"Me and my daughter are here to meet with the king and queen, I'm the governor of Munchkinland" Frexspar told the guard at the gate.
The exchange continued for a few minutes until the guard allowed them into the castle.
Elphaba's legs felt like jelly, she must have looked like a small, scared mouse in the large hallway.
"Remember what I told you Elphaba, do not embarrass me" an icy cold hand touched her shoulder.
She nodded in response, deciding against saying anything.
All of a sudden she heard footsteps and she looked to see two figures coming down the stairs.
The woman was dressed in a cream-coloured gown that trailed behind her and the man was dressed in a dark suit.
Her father bowed as they reached the bottom of the stairs and she followed, she didn't want to seem disrespectful.
"Frexspar, it's so good to meet you….and this must be Elphaba" the man walked up to the pair and shook their hands.
Elphaba noted how he seemed to hesitate to shake her hand, he probably thought he would catch something.
"Oh I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself, I'm Marillot Tigelaar, King of Vinkus and this is my wife Baxiana Tigelaar, Queen of Vinkus" he corrected himself.
The green girl felt the queen's eyes on her, it wasn't anything unsusual. Ever since she could remember, everyone would stare at her.
It wasn't like she could hide the green, it was the way she was born.
She zoned out for a few minutes, not paying any attention to the continuing conversation.
That was until she felt a hand touch her shoulder.
"I'm leaving now Elphaba, remember to not disappoint us" her father reminded her.
He then just walked away, his lack of affection coming as no surprise to the green girl.
"Goodbye then" she mumbled under her breath, looking down at the floor.
There was a few seconds of silence, awkwardness hung in the atmosphere.
"Elphaba? Follow me, I'll show you to your room" Baxiana broke the silence.
She started walking up the stairs and Elphaba picked up her suitcase from the floor and swiftly followed.
The trek up the stairs felt like she had been walking for hours.
The castle was without a doubt, beautiful.
She stood at the end of the long corridor that looked like it went on forever.
"This one is your room" the queen announced as she led her to the third room on the right.
The gold doorknob was twisted open and Elphaba's mouth fell agape.
Her bedroom back in munchkinland was not even half the size.
"Your father said you liked books so there's some here, I wasn't sure what you liked so there's quite a mixture" She smiled at her.
Green fingers brushed against the bookcase and she stared in bewilderment.
"There is also the Vinkus library of course, if you ever want to read something else" The shorter woman extended before pointing out the remainder of the room.
Elphaba didn't know what to say at first, how could be deserving of something so beautiful.
"Of course once you and Fiyero are married you will share a bed but for now this is yours" Baxiana kept a straight face, biting her lip, almost as if she was anticipating some kind of response.
There was no response from the teenager however.
She wasn't interested in sharing a bed with a man but she what her duty would be once she became princess.
Any argument wouldn't change that.
"Okay, thank you your majesty" Elphaba curtsied, her head low as she was scared to meet her eyes.
"Baxiana is fine dear, i know all of this probably isn't what you wanted but I'm sure you'll take it in your stride" and she then proceeded to leave the room, closing the door behind her.
Elphaba took a deep breath of relief, she was finally alone.
The best thing was to find a distraction so she put her clothes away into the wardrobe and placed any extra belongings into one of the drawers beside her bed.
Her mothers bottle however, went under one of the pillows like it had in munchkinland.
Her legs dragged her over to the window.
Home was so far away, not being able to see it made her heart ache.
Vinkus was far prettier than munchkinland without a doubt.
Everything was more colourful, the trees were a healthy green unlike the ones she had seen from her former bedroom window.
By that point however she was beginning to feel the effects of the lack of sleep.
She had slept very little during the journey to vinkus.
So she dragged herself back to the bed and allowed her eyelids to flutter shut.
—
"Fiyero you were supposed to be back hours ago. Your wife-to-be is here" Baxiana scolded her son.
He stopped pulling away and looked at her in alarm.
"M-my what?" He asked as he thought hard about the previous statement.
The queen pinched her nose in frustration, wondering where he got his brains from.
"Fiyero….me and your father have spoken to you several times about the marriage between you and the governors daughter and how good it will be for the kingdom" she reminded him, hoping it would jog his brain.
He continued to stand there like some kind of scarecrow.
It was then that she grabbed his arm and dragged him upstairs.
"Your wife is in this room, at least say hello to her" the queen whispered.
Before he turned the door knob, a hand touched his arm.
"Oh and Fiyero, please be civil and try not to insult her" she reminded him before walking away.
Fiyero huffed, why didn't he pay more attention during these meetings?.
He slowly opened the door, hoping to get a peek of her before he introduced himself.
The young woman was sat on the bed with a book in front of her.
She didn't seem to notice him at first, she looked very engrossed with the book.
"Ahem" he cleared his throat to let her know he was there.
She jumped, almost flying off the bed.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare—" and then it was his turn to jump.
The shadow of the moonlight hitting her face.
Her skin was green?!
He rubbed his eyes to make sure his eyes weren't playing tricks on him.
But she really was green.
Usually he would of retreated and left but instead his curiosity got the best of him and he went closer, offering his hand for her to shake.
"Hello, I'm Fiyero, the prince of Vinkus" he introduced himself properly as he shook her hand.
Continuing to put any fears aside.
"I'm Elphaba Thropp, your highness" she spoke quietly but despite that Fiyero could hear the deepness of her voice.
He looked closer at her and could now see her light blue eyes that were almost a green.
"Well, good night Elphaba, I'll probably see you again tomorrow" he finally spoke again, leaving behind the confused green girl.
