Chapter 1
Jay and Hailey Arriving on Scene they walk up to an officer
Jay: "Morning officer I'm Sargent Halstead and this is my wife and partner Detective Upton what do we have"?
Officer: "Morning Sargent, Detective double homicide No ID yet looks like both victims suffered from gunshot wounds to the head execution style we are just combing the scene for clues. We canvased the area none of the neighbours knew the victims but they said they were new too the area".
Jay and Hailey enter the house, it's a bloodbath.
Hailey: "Looks like a blitz attack, no sign of forced entry victims must have let their attacker in".
They walk further into the house coming to the kitchen where the table is set for four people though it doesn't seem as thought the food had been touched before the brutal attack had begun. On the counter by the phone there's a picture of a happy smiling couple
Jay: "Looks like they may have let their attacker In and then they were attacked".
They approach another officer
Hailey "Sargent Halstead and Detective Upton, what have you found so far"?
Officer 2: "No signs of forced entry and nothing stolen the bodies are about to be taken to the morgue for identification and examination we were just waiting on the go ahead".
The second officer is about say something else when there is a noise coming from somewhere else inside the house.
Hailey: "Wait did you hear that"?
She begins to follow the noise going In the direction it seemed to have come from. She comes to a locked door leading to what was assumed to be a basement. The noise comes again this time it can be distinguished as a bark and then some shuffling.
Jay: "Let's find a way to get into the room".
Hailey takes a bobby pin from her pocket and picks the lock, Jay looks at her surprised.
Hailey: "What"?
Jay: "I didn't know you could pick locks detective" there's a slight hint of teasing in his voice.
Hailey: while smirking "I want through a rebellious faze in my teen years"
She gets the door open revealing a dark basement, She looks back to Jay and nods while starting to descend the stairs holding her gun out in front of her.
Jay: "Chicago PD!"
They get no reply while they keep descending the stairs and get to the bottom, they manage to find a light switch and turn on the lights that's when they see a dog chained up in the corner. After they un chain the dog they go outside.
Hailey: "Do you think the killer tied the dog up to keep it from barking and alerting the neighbours or interfering with them"?
Jay: "I don't know but the officers said none of the neighbours remember hearing a dog since the victims moved in".
Hailey: "Well whatever happened we need to take this guy to a shelter".
The dog whimpers as if he can understand what Hailey had said. Jays eyes light up, after being partners for five years and dating for nearly a year Hailey knows the look in Jays eyes and it almost always ends in disaster.
Hailey: "Jay…".
Jay: "Come on Hailey we should get a dog"!
Hailey: "Jay we have long and unpredictable work schedules how are we supposed to take care of a dog"?
Jay" We'll figure it out, Will and I had a dog growing up I want the same for our kids
Hailey "Our kids huh" she smirks
Hours later they have the identity of the couple they were Harry and Meghan Kane it was a mistaken identity drug deal gone bad they had the offenders booked and arrested a few days later. They had contacted Meghans sister Lizzy turns out Meghan had given her sister the dog in the event anything should happen to her and Harry. Jay was sad and though she wouldn't admit it out loud but the dog had grown on her and she found herself missing the big guy.
A few days after they had closed the Kane double homicide it was their day off and Hailey had a surprise for Jay.
Hailey: Jay I'm running out to see Kim and Vanessa I'll be back in a few hours!"
She left the apartment and rode the elevator down to the underground parking garage she got in Jays truck and drove for ten minutes till she arrived at her destination. A few hours later she returned to the apartment, she had just set her keys down in the bowl by the door. Jay walks out of the bedroom.
Jay: Hey Hails how was your day with Kim and Vanessa?.
He stops in his tracks when he sees what Hailey has with a German Shepard puppy, its happy blue eyes stare up at Jay while it wags its tail in excitement and bounds over to Jay jumping up at him.
Hailey: "Well I knew how upset you were when we had to give up the dog from the Kane homicide so I thought I would do something to cheer you up plus you know as well as I would do anything you asked".
