Author's Note: Since you're all here, can somebody please tell me the name of the song playing in Episode 1 of Death Note at 4:06, the instant Light picks up the note? Thanks!

Month 1

"Stephanie, the Death Note doesn't have a time limit. Why don't you use it more than once a month?"

"With all due respect, Sir, isn't it obvious?" She shot back. "If I kill everyone at once, people will realize this is not normal and an investigation will be launched. I will, at some point, be caught. Maybe not in a year, or even a decade. But at some point I will be found."

As usual, he marveled at Stephanie's perceptiveness. Her long lifespan made perfect sense now.

"One death a month can be explained away," she continued, "especially if they're plausible. To your knowledge, has anyone suggested Joshua Moon's death was caused by supernatural compulsion?"

"Nope," he quickly replied.

"Exactly." She once again displayed that wonderful vicious grin of hers.

He was starting to think giving Stephanie Wong the Death Note was the best decision he had ever made in his long, long life. He would NEVER get tired of this.

"Oh, that reminds me." She quickly got out the Death Note. "Time for your guess, Sir!"

"Amy Comey Barrett."

She laughed her head off, and Ryuk flinched.

"Close, but no cigar! Clarence Thomas."

Ryuk was absolutely tickled pink, and joined her in her mirth. It was so rare to find a human who was his intellectual equal. He put on a dumb face because humans treated him like he was stupid.

Stephanie? Stephanie toyed with him, while staying completely respectful. She had decided on the 15th of each month as her kill date, and they had developed a little game wherein Ryuk agreed he would attempt to guess her target based on her actions and Internet search history. She had deliberately misdirected him, looking up numerous articles about the unfairness of Barrett's appointment. And then she sprang her trap.

This was SO much fun.

"Now then," she said seriously. "Let's see what you do with this." Taking out a pen, she quickly wrote the following into the Death Note:

Clarence Thomas - Assassination

"Perfect," Ryuk said, returning the same vicious grin she gave him earlier. "Watch."

It all happened so fast, Virginia Thomas would later reflect. It was a peaceful scene: a beautiful park in Washington, D.C. filled with trees. They were talking to each other about the Court's momentous ruling a few months ago, flanked by their newly-necessary security. Some people just couldn't see reason.

Then a car had come roaring into the park, out of nowhere. They tried to get out of its way until they realized with horror that it was coming right for them. For one of them, rather. Her husband.

She watched in stunned disbelief as Clarence Thomas' life was wiped out in an instant, his body quickly being crushed under the weight of the tires. Even more horrific, she had had enough time to see the driver's face - and his visage was one of grim determination.

Her husband had just been assassinated with a car. She collapsed onto the ground and began to wail in agony.

This is a reminder that, as disgusting as these people are, they're still humans with families. So I wanted to make it clear how devastating some of these kills are to said families.
