Author's Note: As the old saying goes, you gotta go where the story takes you. The basic format (months, much more talking than action) will remain the same, but after the revelation of the twist I feel the need to extend the Months a bit. You'll see...

Month 5 (I)
"I probably shouldn't do the Piranha solution thing again, should I?" Stephanie remarked mildly.
"Probably not, if you don't want to get caught. It freaked a lot of people out," Ryuk responded.
She still didn't like Ryuk. Now that he wasn't trying to actively manipulate her, he got bored a lot more easily. For now, she had managed to keep him off her back by downloading several thousand ebooks and video games onto a laptop. For some bizarre reason, he seemed to enjoy playing Old School RuneScape a lot - which made no sense to her, since that was a famously repetitive game and he wanted to avoid being bored. But hey, whatever made him happy...
It was time to kill again, though. Ryuk wanted to have some fun.
"Ryuk, I'm going to try an experiment."
"What sort of experiment?" He asked, intrigued.
Without saying anything, she got the Death Note out from her drawer and put it on her desk. Taking out a pen, she quickly wrote the following into the Death Note:
Robert William Fisher
For the first time, she left the cause of death blank, which meant it should be a simple heart attack.
She waited a moment, but Ryuk didn't say anything or move to make the death happen like usual. That confirmed her hypothesis.
"Guess the motherfucker died sometime in the last 20 years," she said, crossing out the name. "Good riddance."
"You've changed, Stephanie," he said conversationally.
She turned towards Ryuk and glared at him. "And why exactly do you think that is? You played me like a fool for your entertainment. I can't believe I was in awe of you when I first met you."
Ryuk laughed. "Sorry, Stephanie, but you know the rules. I'm only here for my amusement."
"Fuck you," she said in response. "Here's hoping this one entertains you, jackass." She quickly wrote the following into the Death Note:
Gary Glitter - Eyes gouged out and fed to him
"You're getting creative," he said, grinning. "Watch."

"That was fun!"
"I'm glad you enjoyed yourself, but I can't keep doing these creative kills on a regular basis," she remarked. "Piranha solution and eye gouging? We need to be more subtle than this, Ryuk. I don't want to end up like Light."
That last remark caught Ryuk's attention. "What do you know of Light Yagami?"
"Nothing. But I can infer his fate easily enough. He got caught, and you moved on. Gary Glitter's death was an indulgence, but I'm going to have to be more subtle about it."
"Just as long as you keep me entertained, Stephanie." He didn't seem fazed by the comments on Light. Then his visage turned ominous. "You know what happens if you don't."
"Yeah, yeah, you're a lying piece of shit. Now could you please leave me alone? I want to listen to some Nirvana and do dab rips."
"Fine." Without another word, Ryuk left and went back to playing video games.

What's that, you say? Stephanie isn't well-rounded enough? She's too intellectual and not emotional enough?
Not anymore.
(Also: I'm taking a bit of authorial license and having Ryuk "disappear" for the kills in a similar fashion to the 2017 movie. He can sort of be in two places at the same time, which is why he personally performs (the actions leading up to) Stephanie's kills if he gets the chance while also staying into her room and talking to her)
