Chapter 13: Roger/Rouge: Fury
There should always be a choice.
Notes: For you Madi!
A warm fall day. The air was crowded with the smell of fallen leaves, of apples in the orchard. The sky was turning a rich purple as the sun set into the sea. A cool breeze rustled through Rouge's curls as she sat on the porch swing.
A lovely day by all accounts. Except hers. Always except hers wasn't it? The world went on and did its thing without a single thought to her predicament. Without a single fuck given about her struggles.
Today, the baby kicked, for the very first time. Roger's soul, somewhere slumbering within it. She should have known that he wasn't really going to die. Instead, he'd use her to carry him forth in a new life. Some would find it poetic. Some would find it pathetic. Rouge?
She found it infuriating. Illness be damned! He could have told her, ASKED her. Could have warned her of his plans. Could have taken their child into consideration. The child who would not have their own soul, instead just be a reincarnation! Used, that's what she and their unborn child were, used by a selfish man who wanted to live forever.
"To Usher In a New Era!" or whatever other shite he used to spout. Words that used to make her heart pound, from lips that used to make her sigh with want.
Rouge bit her lip until the flesh turned white, like her knuckles. It wasn't fair. Wasn't fair of Roger, wasn't fair of the government, and… she rested a hand over her belly gently. If she died in childbirth… she could take Roger's soul with her. A last act of love. Not for him, but for her unborn child, who would get a soul of their very own.
Rouge watched the sunset, humming Bink's Sake.
Notes: Rouge got fucking shafted, just saying (looking at you Oda).
