Chapter 2: Eggman Arrives!

Sonic blasted through the land, eventually reaching a city under attack by some robots with various egg-like shapes and designs.

Sonic: "Well, not hard to figure out who this is."

Sonic tapped his foot with a deadpan face and half lidded eyes, scratching behind his ear.

?: "Oh ho ho ho!"

Sonic: "Speak of the devil."

Sonic smirked as he zoomed past several of the robots, creating a sonic boom as he ran and destroying several of the robots, releasing several small animals who hopped, ran or flew away as Sonic went near the heart of the city. Several anthropomorphic animals screamed and ran away from some tall robots and a hovercraft, with a mustached man cackling away. He waved his hand before bringing it to himself in a fist, a dark toothy grin plastered on his face.

?: "Bow before your new emperor, Doctor Ivo Robotnik, for I am Dr. Eggman! Nya ha, ha, ha!"

Right before a robot was about to shoot at a few small animals, who were cowering in a corner, it was hit by a large blue energy ball.

Eggman: "What?!"

Sonic untucked himself, spreading out his arms and legs, before landing in front of Eggman, rubbing his nose with his finger with a grin on his face.

Sonic: "Heh, heh, heh!"

Eggman: "Sonic! You annoying little rodent! What're you doing here of all places?!"

Eggman gritted his teeth as Sonic waved at him with a wink and his signature cocky smirk.

Sonic: "Yo Eggman! I thought I smelt a nasty omelet here, so I figured I should check it out!~"

Eggman: "Ngh, get out of here! I'm working!"

Sonic: "Out?"

Sonic rubbed his chin, closing his eyes as his smirk just kept getting wider. He pushed his fist against his hip and started wagging his finger at him, tapping his foot.

Sonic: "No offense Eggman, but you should probably go on a diet if you really wanna slim down. And also, maybe not always sit down in a round pod. Oh wait! It had to be! Otherwise you'd break the thing!"

Eggman gritted his teeth before slapping his hands on his head in frustration and then yelling out in anger.

Eggman: "GAH! GET HIM NOW!"

Sonic wasted no time in zipping away from him as the robot's eyes glowed red for a second before blasting several blaster bolts at him, but every single one missed. While Sonic ran up a tall building with the bolts chasing after him, Eggman pressed a button, activating a small camera in front of his pod. Then some schematics of Sonic popped up on his screen before seven energy readers, with images of 7 different colored gems appearing next to a different energy signal. His hairless brows lifted in shock before he pressed another button then talking low into his collar.

Eggman: "Bring the main ship down here ASAP and ready up the Super Machine."

?: "Eh sure boss, but uh, don't you wanna wait till Sonic is actually up here?"

Eggman: "No, the battle should lead up there soon anyway and I DON'T want to be caught unprepared."

?: "Alright, if you say so boss."

When the transmission ended, Eggman clasped his hands as he watched the blue blur speed back down the building before bouncing on the robots heads in his ball form, each one exploding as he bounced to the next one.

Eggman (Thinking): "If my readings were right, he has all 7 Chaos Emeralds on him. So now all I need to do is goad him into that form."

Eggman just waited for all the bots to be destroyed. It was all just data collecting to him anyways. Sonic blasted and blazed through all of them with a punch, kick, spindash and even using some of the robots to hit each other, laughing away as it looked like just a game to him. As he made his way to Eggman again, he looked up and saw Eggman's ship, floating high above the city. He clicked his tongue when he noticed it was too high up for him to run or jump up to it, even with his super speed.

Sonic (Thinking): "Dang, how am I gonna get up there? Tails has both Tornado's right now."

He rubbed his chin, trying to think of what he could do when he looked up at Eggman slowly floating up.

Eggman: "Oh ho, ho, ho! I've got places to be Hedgehog, so I'll be seeing you!"

Sonic's eyes widened when Eggman waved at him before he blasted up to his large ship, labeled in white on the side 'Egg Battleship IV'.

Eggman: "HAHAHA! Such a shame you can't FLY Sonic!"

Eggman made sure to emphasize the fly part, trying to make sure he caught the bait… and Sonic did!

Sonic (Thinking): "Fly…? Wait a sec, that's it!"

His smirk returned as him and his quills glowed with a brilliant golden light aura.

Sonic: "I know I shouldn't use them for something so miniscule but, time to do this - SUPER SONIC STYLE! -"

The good Dr smirked as 7 gems, each a different color flowed and circled around Sonic, the aura intensifying as his quills flowed up before a bright flash engulfed the surrounding area, looking like a small explosion from space. Finally after a while, it died down, revealing Sonic was Golden and his eyes were an intense red. But the most impressive part was him floating above the tiny crater below him. He curled himself up again, looking like he might turn into a ball again but instead he spread himself out and he burst upwards, looking more effective then when he made sonic booms, a Golden Stardust trail flowing behind him as he chased after the Dr. Eggman was cackling away inside his head.

Eggman (Thinking): "Hahaha! He actually fell for that?!"

Sonic: "Hold on Eggface, here I come!"

The Hedgehog burst his energy again, going even faster as he breaks through the bottom hull, immediately tearing through floor after floor, going to the flight pad before finally, he blasted back down to the ships main bridge, where several bots were trying to save or at least salvage some of the ship. Sonic crossed his arms, smirking as he descended to the the ground and tapped his foot, waiting for-

Sonic: "Man, I really am fast! Or you're just too slow!"

-Eggman to arrive. Sonic chuckled as the Dr scoffed, fighting the urge to grind his teeth from frustration.

Eggman: "I'll admit, I wasn't expecting you to arrive this quickly. I had hoped my battalion up top would interest you a little to buy me some time."

Sonic: "For what? A less quick loss? Sorry Eggman, but I'm ending this now!"

Eggman floated into an empty spot that clicked perfectly with his little ship as he pressed some buttons, seven tubes appearing behind him. Sonic tilted his head before walking towards him.

Eggman: "Fascinating aren't they? You're a curious Hedgehog aren't you~"

Sonic: "Perhaps~"

Sonic kept smirking the entire time, thinking he had total control of the situation. So what if Eggman had these… seven tubes…

Sonic: "Wait-"

Eggman: "You finally caught on. But you're-"

Eggman's face turned into the widest grin ever, loving every second of this as he slammed a button, the ship blasting an alarm and everything glowing red from the warning lights and, oh boy, the icing on the cake-

Eggman: "-Too slow! Nyah hah hah hah!"

Sonic tried to burst his energy but… he couldn't?! He felt so… powerless. But he was in his Super Form! How?! He looked down and noticed the floor glowing bright, crackling with a mighty electric charge.

Sonic: "What the- AGGGHHH!"

The electricity started to strike him every time he tried to even blink. It was clear the Hedgehog was losing power, with even his quills starting to flash between Gold and blue.

Sonic: "NGH, UGH, GAAAH!"

Sonic dropped to his knees, making a tight fist as he tried to stay in his empowered form but he couldn't do anything. So after what felt like forever, 7 different colored glows appeared next to him before the seven gems appeared floating next to him, as finally he lost his golden state and turned back to normal.

Sonic: "GRRR, RAAAGH! Ugh, ngh…"

He collapsed forward, panting and sweating heavily. Eggman grinned and pressed another button, opening the tubes before they made a weird sound, making the gems go to a tube before they closed. The gems started crackling with their respective colored energies as Eggman laughed maniacally, the electricity that was hitting Sonic now gone.

Eggman: "Yes. Yes! YES! I DID IT! I DEFEATED THAT PESKY RODENT!"

Sonic: "...D-Don't… Don't count me out just yet, Eggface!"

His body felt extremely heavy, but he still stood up, ready to fight! In fact, he started to compress his body.

Sonic: "Give me back those Emeralds!"

He was about to strike Eggman but-

Eggman: "You seriously think I didn't have a plan for this?!"

He laughed and pressed another button, trapping the Hedgehog in his own tube! It looked even more advanced in tech then the seven gems' tubes.

Eggman: "After all this time, after all the countless hours of research and grueling years of building, I finally have the perfect trap for you!"

Sonic: "W-What? That's i-impossible!"

Eggman: "Oh but it is. Even when I had a tight grip on you, you still managed to escape somehow. This allows me to keep a steady stream of siphoning your speed energy. But, not enough to drain you all together, as that would lose me a near infinite energy source."

He walked up to the tube, holding the same smirk Sonic usually had, said Hedgehog gritting his teeth as he tried to stay up.

Eggman: "And more than enough to stop you from pulling your usual shenanigans."

Sonic was struggling to stay up, he wanted to try to test its durability but he felt so…

Sonic: "So… tired..."

Eggman tilted forward towards him, carrying a wide toothy smirk before he put his arms behind his back and kicked up on the edge of the pod.

Eggman: "Yes, now sleep. We have a big day tomorrow~"

Sonic just stared at the gems, his eyes feeling heavy as the immense power pulled away from him caused him to feel nearly completely drained. So add that to his remaining energy being siphoned and he dropped to the floor, deep in sleep.

Eggman: "Now, to fix everything in time for the greatest show. Hah, hah, hah hah, HAH HAH HAH!"

As his laugh echoed through the ship, we zoomed out to reveal the giant shop dropping most of its damaged shell to the world below, revealing all the robots fixing and strengthening the frame.

A/N: Well, that took longer than expected to write but hey it's done!

So some of you might've noticed the similarities between this and the opening of Unleashed.

And to that I say, yes. To everything. That opening is absolutely perfect, change my mind. So I figured why not bring some elements into this.

Anyways, I've always wondered, why exactly did Eggman never take away the Emeralds again? He clearly has the means to, so it just confused me. The only problem would be to stop Sonic from claiming them once more. And I'm well aware of the reasons why Eggman never really traps him.

But I didn't think it would be too much of a stretch if he was extremely exhausted and Eggman had the right calculations. Especially with all the info he had on him.

Sorry if it seems rushed but it was the best I could come up with it feeling somewhat natural.

So what now? Welp, we'll just have to wait next chapter~
