I was tired of being asked how I was doing, what I was going to do for the country, and other questions. I felt overly exposed right now since I was the new monarch... I was also the first monarch in years that was single. Mother hadn't brought it up yet, but I knew that it was only a matter of time. We were still in the middle of the mourning period which meant that country had slowed almost to a stop. I sighed as I got done with yet another meeting. I had already met with the Prime Minister, appointed the people I needed to for my counsel since I was the new monarch, and done various other things that I had known about, but was not prepared to do yet.
"Karrion, I would like to go to the museum." I told him and he nodded. I walked out and a car was waiting for me. I had always gone to the Natural History Museum to sit and think. We arrived just as the museum was closing to the public, so I knew that I would have time to be to myself. Karrion left me at the entrance as I wandered through the mostly empty museum. I found Dippy and sat in front of him. He was the large dinosaur skeleton, and there was something peaceful about the area he was on display.
I was sitting there as I put my head in my hands. I was overcome with the grief and stress of the last few days. I felt the sobs come through as I sat there. I fianlly looked up and went to wipe by eyes when a box of tissues appeared in my face. I took one as I looked up to see a woman standing next to me with a sad expression on her face.
"Thank you." I said and she nodded. She turned to walk away, but I put my hand out to stop her. She looked at me confused.
"Please sit." I said and she did as she held the tissues. We sat there in silence for a second as she seemed unsure of what to do.
"Are you alright?" she finally asked me as I realized she had an American accent.
"It has been a few hard days." I said and she nodded.
"I can't imagine it's been easy to grieve with the public constantly watching." she said and I smirked because she actually understood what the real problem was right now.
"I'm Drew." I said and held out my hand and she chuckled.
"Everyone knows who you are. I'm Alex." she said and I smiled. Alex was darker skinned with black curly hair, curves, and a wide smile. She wasn't like most of the women I had met in the museum.
"What do you do here?" I asked her.
"I just recently took over a curator position in the museum." she said and I smiled at her.
"How recently?" I asked her as she sat the box of tissues next to her.
"About 2 weeks ago." she said and I nodded.
"Well, welcome to London." I said and she smirked.
"Does the King personally greet everyone who relocates to London?" she asked me and I chuckled. It felt good to laugh.
"Only those to come baring tissues." I said and she laughed a beautifully melodic laugh.
"I will be sure to tell everyone to start caring tissues in hopes to catching the new King's eye." she said and I laughed even harder.
I sat and spoke with her for awhile until Karrion came to get me. I had to be somewhere for dinner.
"Ms. Alex, it was lovely to get to know you." I said and kissed the back of her hand as she curtseyed to me.
"Good luck with everything your majesty." she said and I smiled at her.
I walked with Karrion to a waiting car, and got in to find Becky waiting for me. I knew it must be something if she was here waiting for me.
"What is it?" I asked her.
"You look... happier some how." she said and I nodded.
"I met a lovely woman while in the museum." I said and she nodded.
"It's good to see you smile on a dark day. We are going to have dinner with mother." she said and I nodded in agreement. I hadn't really smiled in a few days, but it felt nice to do so again. I looked back at the museum as we drove away, and knew that I needed to visit again soon. I however wasn't looking forward to dinner with mother. I had been told that she wasn't doing well handling everything.
Alex POV
I was never happier when I got to my flat that night. I had had a very interesting day between putting together an exhibit about the King that had just passed and meeting the new king. I was not expecting to ever actually meet the ruling monarch. I was puled from my thoughts as I stood in my kitchen when Boots started screaming for his dinner. I looked down at my tuxedo cat and thought it you only knew.
I fed him and then did the only sensible thing I could do right then. I called my best friend back in Florida to tell them that I met the monarch... and might have even flirted with him. I ended up talking to Ambrose until midnight, and hoped that maybe one day I would get to meet the prince again. I knew it was probably a dumb dream, but that's why it was dream.
