I was tossing and turning I knew it, but the dream I was having was way too vivid, my nightmares about my mothers death have come back and no matter how hard I try I can't wake up.
I was hiding in a cupboard in the hotel room that Mom had rented, there was a pretty violent ghost in the place, I had asked to play hide and seek and Mom agreed "Elyzabeth come out come out where ever you are" Mom said, she was a tall women with chocolate brown curls and blue eyes. I giggled which got Moms attention and she grinned. A dirt covered man holding a knife appeared behind her and grabbed her hair, the ghost a Michel Matthews, pulled Mommy back and slit her throat...suddenly I'm out of the cupboard standing next to her, wait is that Sam and Dean?
I woke with a start, I was covered in sweat tears running down my face and I was hyperventilating, I looked around the room, Dean was lying on his stomach in the bed next to the one I was sharing with Sam since this motel didn't have a family room available, Sam wasn't beside me all the better, If Dean didn't wake up when I got up then I've avoided talking about my nightmare, I dug through my bag and grabbed some clean clothes and a towel and I showered and got dressed as I walked into the room again the door opened, and someone walked in, I instantly recognised the figure as Sam but Dean slipped his hand under his pillow as he looked back at Sam who was carrying coffee cups and bags "Morning Sunshine" Sam said with a laugh "What time is it?" Dean as he fell back on the bed "Uh, it's about five forty-five." Sam said "In the morning?" Dean asked as he turned to look at Sammy "Yep" Sam said handing me a cup of coffee and a bag "Did you get any sleep last night?" Dean asked "Yeah for a couple of hours" Sam lied "You're an awful liar Sammy" I said taking a sip of coffee, "Liar, I was up at three, and you were watching a George Foreman infomercial." Dean said as he sat up on the side of the bed, "Hey, what can I say? It's riveting TV." Sam said, Dean rolled his eyes and looked at me, "What are you doing up anyway kiddo, you aren't usually up until at least seven" Dean asked "I woke up early it happens" I said shrugging "Okay if you're both going to lie to me, lie better, When was the last time either of you got a good night's sleep?" Dean asked "I don't know, a little while, I guess." Sam said "Couple of Days" I muttered "It's not a big deal." we said glancing at each other, "Yeah, it is." Dean said "Look I appreciate the concern-" Sam was starting before Dean cut him off "Oh, I'm not concerned about you. It's your job to keep my ass alive, so I need you sharp. Seriously, are you still having nightmares about Jess?" Dean asked, Sam shrugged as he sat down next to me handing Dean a coffee, "Yeah. But it's not just her. It's everything. I just forgot, you know? This job. Man, it gets to you." Sammy said "You can't let it. You can't bring it home like that." Dean said taking a sip of his coffee, I stayed quiet sipping my coffee and eating the chocolate muffin Sam had bought cause if I interrupted I knew both of them would make me talk about my dreams. "So, what? All this it...never keeps you up at night?" Sam asked Dean shook his head "Never? You're never afraid?" Sam asked "No, not really" Dean said, Sam stood up and reached under Deans pillow and pulled the knife that he keeps there, "that's not fear" Dean said taking the knife back "that is Precaution" "All right, whatever. I'm too tired to argue." Sam said as Dean's phone rang. Dean looked at it and answered it "Hello?...Oh, right, yeah. Up in Kittanning, Pennsylvania, the poltergeist thing. It's not back, is it?...What is it?" Dean hung up, "Pack up we're going" Dean said picking up his jeans and pulling them on.
As we were driving to Kittanning, Pennsylvania Dean told us about the poltergeist he and Dad delt with and told us that Jerry Panowski the guy they helped asked for our help with something. "Can I come in?" I asked as Dean parked the car. "Yeah, he already knows what we do, so there isn't any lying yet" Dean said as we got out of the car and headed into the air strip "Thanks for making the trip so quick. I ought to be doing you guys a favor, not the other way around. Dean and your dad really helped me out." Jerry said as we followed him through the hanger "Yeah, he told us. It was a poltergeist?" Sam said "Poltergeist? Man, I loved that movie." someone yelled "Hey, nobody's talking to you. Keep walking. Damn right it was a poltergeist, practically tore our house apart. Tell you something, if it wasn't for you and your dad, I probably wouldn't be alive. Your dad said you were off at college. Is that right?" Sam nodded "Yeah, I was. I'm—taking some time off." Sam said "Well, he was real proud of you. I could tell. He talked about you all the time." Jerry asked "He did?" Sam asked "Yeah, you bet he did. Oh, hey, you know I tried to get a hold of him, but I couldn't. How's he doing, anyway?" Jeff asked "He's, um, wrapped up in a job right now." Dean said looking back at me, I shrugged "Well, we're missing the old man, but we get Sam. Even trade, huh?" Jeff said "No, not by a long shot" Sam said "I got something I want you guys to hear." Jerry said as he lead us into an office "I listened to this. And, well, it sounded like it was up your alley." Jeff said putting a cd into the computer "Normally I wouldn't have access to this. It's the cockpit voice recorder for United Britannia flight 2485. It was one of ours." he said pressing play on the recording "Mayday! Mayday! Repeat! This is United Britania 2485—immediate instruction help! United Britanis 2485, I copy your message—May be experiencing some mechanical failure..." the Pilot was cut off by a loud whooshing sound "Took off from here, crashed about two hundred miles south. Now, they're saying mechanical failure. Cabin depressurized somehow. Nobody knows why. Over a hundred people on board. Only seven got out alive. Pilot was one. His name is Chuck Lambert. He's a good friend of mine. Chuck is, uh...well, he's pretty broken up about it. Like it was his fault." Jeff said "You don't think it was?" I asked, Jeff shook his head "No, I don't." He said, "Jerry, we're gonna need passenger manifests, um, a list of survivors." Sam said "All right" Jerry nodded "Take a look at the wreckage" I said both Sam and Dean looked at me then at each other "Any chance we can do that?" Dean asked "The other stuff is no problem. But the wreckage...fellas, the NTSB has it locked down in an evidence warehouse. No way I've got that kind of clearance" "No problem, we'll improvise" Dean said.
Sammy and I were waiting by the car as Dean was in a copy jack, he finally came out "You took forever" I said when he reached us, he held up two IDs more then likely for him and Sammy "You can't rush perfection." he said, Sam reached out and took one of the ID's and looked at it, "Homeland Security?,That's pretty illegal, even for us." Sam said as he opened his door, "Yeah, well, it's something new. You know? People haven't seen it a thousand times." I laughed and slid to the middle seat closing my door behind me, "All right what have you got?" Dean asked "Well, there's definitely EVP on the cockpit voice recorder. Listen" Sam said as he hit play and a scratchy voice said "No survivors" ""No survivors"? What's that supposed to mean? " Dean asked "Clearly it means no survivors" I said "There were seven survivors" Dean said looking back at me, I shrugged "It clearly didn't do a good job" I said grinning at him, "So, what are you thinking? A haunted flight?" Dean asked looking back at Sam, "There's a long history of spirits and death omens on planes and ships, like phantom travelers." Sam said "Or flight 401, you remember that?" I said "Right. The one that crashed, the airline salvaged some of its parts, put it in other planes, then the spirit of the pilot and copilot haunted those flights." Dean said "Right" Sam said. "Yep" "Maybe we got a similar deal." Sam said as dean picked up the list of survivors and asked "All right, so, survivors, which one do you want to talk to first?" "Uh, third on the list Max Jaffey" Sam said, "Why Him?" Dean asked "Well, for one, he's from around here. And two, if anyone saw anything weird, he did. "What makes you say that?" Dean asked "We'll I spoke to his mother and she told me where to find him?" "Which is where Einstein?" I asked "Riverfront Psychiatric Hospital" Sam said.
"Black eyes, and he full on opened the door" I said "Yep" Dean nodded as we drove to the passengers house "There's like two ton of pressure on airplane doors no way a normal plain old human could have opened it" I said "That's why we're talking to his wife," dean said as we pulled up to the guys house "So here we are. George Phelps, seat 20C." Sam said, "Hmm. Ely's right, I don't care how strong you are." the both got out of the car "Even yoked up on PCP or something, no way you can open up an emergency door during a flight." Dean said resting his hands on the top of the car "Not if you're human." Sam turned to look at Dean and standing in a similar position as he finished talking "But maybe this guy George was something else. Some kind of creature, maybe, in human form." "Does that look like a creature's lair to you?" Dean asked. before he walked around the car and he and Sam went up the steps.
"You boy's look good" I said from the bonnet of the Impala as Sam and Dean walked over to me after leaving MORT'S for style, the closest suit store we could find. Wearing black suits with white shirts and black ties "Man, I look like one of the Blues Brothers." Dean complained "No, you don't. You look more like a...seventh-grader at his first dance." Sam said, I laughed cause well he was right "I hate this thing" Dean said adjusting his tie "Hey. You want into that warehouse or not?" Sam asked, "He's right D, If you want in, you'll have to look the part, park the car near the door, I'll watch for real suits" I said, Dean ruffled my hair before we got into the car.
I was watching the doors to the storage wear house for a good five minutes now, which isn't a long time I know but for a bored teenager it feels like an hour, when I saw real homeland security get out of a black SUV, I pulled out my phone and dialed Sam's number "Hey" Sam answers "You have real suits entering the building now, grab what you can and run" I said "Dean we gotta book it, thanks El" Sam hung up, i could here the alarm blaring as Sam and Dean got back into the car and Dean drove us back to the air hanger
Sam had given Jerry the yellow dust he had gotten from the airplanes "Huh. This stuff is covered in sulfur." Jerry said looking at it through a microscope "You sure?" Sam asked "Take a look for yourself" Jerry said as a loud clanging came from outside to office, "If you fellows will excuse me, I have an idiot to fire." he said walking out, "Do I look like a fellow?" I asked Dean smiled at me as he walked around the desk and looked into the microscope, "You know, there's not too many things that leave behind a sulfuric residue." Dean said "Demonic possession?" Sam said "It would explain how a seemingly normal man would have the strength to open up an emergency hatch." I said leaning on the desk "If the guy was possessed, it's possible." Sam said "This goes way beyond floating over a bed or barfing pea soup. I mean it's one thing to possess a person, but to use them to take down an entire airplane?" Dean said "You ever heard of something like this before?" Sam asked "Never" Dean and I said "What's our next move?" I asked with a yawn, "for you sleep, and research" Dean said,
I got a good two hours of sleep before I woke up to both my brothers already up Sam was sitting at the table by the window and Dean was sitting on his bed books open on Sam's, I sat up in bed and picked up the jeans I had worn yesterday pulling them on as Sam said "So, every religion in every world culture has the concept of demons and demonic possession, right? I mean Christian, Native American, Hindu, you name it." "Yeah, but none of them describe anything like this." Dean asked, I walked to my rucksack and pulled out a clean t-shirt and a flannel, "Well, that's not exactly true. You see according to Japanese beliefs, certain demons are behind certain disasters, both natural and man-made. One causes earthquakes, another causes disease." Sam said "And this one causes plane crashes?" Dean asked, Sam sighed and looked at Dean, Dean stood and as he was walking over to Sam he said "All right, so, what? We have a demon that's evolved with the times and found a way to ratchet up the body count?" "Yeah. You know, who knows how many planes it's brought down before this one?" Dean huffed and turned away from Sam, "What?" Sam asked. "I don't know, man. This isn't our normal gig. I mean, demons, they don't want anything, just death and destruction for its own sake. This is big. And I wish Dad was here." Dean said scratching his head, "Yeah me too" Sam and I said. Dean's phone rang "Hello?...Oh, hey, Jerry...Wha—Jerry, I'm sorry. What happened?...Where'd this happen?...I'll try to ignore the irony in that...Nothing. Jerry, hang in there, all right? We'll catch up with you soon." "Another Crash?" I asked when Dean hung up "Yeah, let's go" "Where?" Sam asked "Nazareth.".
"Sulfur?" Dean asked from beside Jerry who was looking into a microscope, Jerry nodded "Great" Dean said turning to me and Sam who were sitting at the desk "Well, that's great. All right, that's two plane crashes involving Chuck Lambert. This demon sounds like it was after him." Dean said "With all due respect to Chuck, if that's the case, that would be the good news" Sam said "What's the bad news?" Dean asked "Chuck's plane went down exactly forty minutes into flight. And get this, so did flight 2485." Sam said "Forty minutes? What does that mean?" Jerry asked "forty is biblical numerology. like in Noah's ark, it rained for forty days. The number basically means death." I said "Els and I went back, and there have been six plane crashes over the last decade that all went down exactly forty minutes in." Sam said "Any survivors" Dean asked "No, or not until Now any way" I asked "not until flight 2485, for some reason. On the cockpit voice recorder, remember what the EVP Said?" Sam asked "No survivors." he said and thinks for a moment "It's going after all the survivors. It's trying to finish the job".
Sam and I were talking on the phone to the survivors of the first plane crash seeing if any of them would fly again, "Thank you" I said right as Sam finished his phone call "Really? Well, thank you for taking our survey, And if you do plan to fly, please don't forget your friends at United Britannia Airlines. Thanks." Sam said " All right. That takes care of Blaine Sanderson and..," Sam looked at me "Yeah andDennis Holloway. They're not flying anytime soon." I said nodding as Sam crossed their names off the list "So our only wildcard is the flight attendant Amanda Walker." Dean said, "Right. Her sister Karen said her flight leaves Indianapolis at eight pm. It's her first night back on the job." Sam said "That sounds like just our luck." Dean said "Dean, this is a five-hour drive, man, even with you behind the wheel." Sam said "Call Amanda's cellphone again, see if we can't head her off at the pass." Dean said "We already left her three voice messages. She must have turned her cellphone off." I said "God, we're never gonna make it." Sam said "Oh We'll make it" Dean said stepping on the gas peddle.
We ran into the airport "Right there. They're boarding in thirty minutes." Sam said pointing at the departure board "Okay. We still have some cards to play. We need to find a phone.". After two minutes of looking we found a phone and Dean picked it up "Hi. Gate thirteen...I'm trying to contact an Amanda Walker. She's a flight attendant on flight, um...flight 4-2-4...Come on...Miss Walker. Hi, this is Dr. James Hetfield from St. Francis Memorial Hospital. We have a Karen Walker here...Nothing serious, just a minor car accident, but she was injured, so—...he paused for a second...You what?...Uh, well...there must be some mistake...Guilty as charged...He's really sorry...Yes, but...he really needs to see you tonight, so—...Don't be like that. Come on. The guy's a mess. Really. It's pathetic...Oh, yeah...No, no. Wait, Amanda. Amanda!" Dean hung the phone back up "Damn it! So close." Dean said "What Now?" I asked looking between them "it's time for plan B. We're getting on that plane." Sam said "Whoa, whoa, now just hold on a second." Dean said, I laughed quietly to myself at the look on Dean's face, "Dean, that plane is leaving with over a hundred passengers on board, and if we're right, that plane is gonna crash." Sam said "I know" Dean said "Okay. So we're getting on the plane, we need to find that demon and exorcise it. I'll take Ely and get the tickets. You get whatever you can out of the trunk. Whatever that will make it through the security. Meet us back here in five minutes." "Are you okay?" Sam asked seeing theanxious look on Deans face, "No, not really." "Why, What's wrong?" "Well, I kind of have this problem with, uh..." Dean cut of and made a gesture with his hand "Flying?" Sam and I asked "It's never really been an issue until now." Dean said "You're joking, right?" Sam asked "Does it look like I'm joking" Dean exclaimed "We can do this on on our own" I said, "What are you, nuts? Sam just said The plane's going to crash" Dean said "Dean, we can do it together, or Ely I can do this one by ourselves. I'm not seeing a third option, here." Sam said, "Come on really" Dean said, I gave him so he could put my guns and switch blades into the trunk, and Sammy and I went to buy tickets at the desk.
I got the window seat with Sam next to me and Dean next to Sam, Dean was humming Metallica to calm himself down, "I brought holy water" I heard Dean say, I didn't realise I had zoned out "I think we can go more subtle. If she's possessed, she'll flinch at the name of God." "Oh nice" Dean said I turned to look at them "Hey" "What?" "Say it in Latin" "I know." "Okay. Hey!" "What?!" "Uh, in Latin, it's "Christo"." "Dude, I know! I'm not an idiot!". "You know? if you want to sleep we won't judge" Sam said "Sleeping on the job, It could get me fired" I said as Dean walked back and sat down "All right, well, she's got to be the most well-adjusted person on the planet." "You said Christo?" Sam asked "Yeah" "And?" "There's no demon in her. There's no demon getting in her." Dean said " So, if it's on the plane, it can be anyone. Anywhere." Sam said as the plane started to shake "Come on! That can't be normal!" Dean exclaimed the panic clear in his tone "Hey, hey, it's just a little turbulence." Sam said soothingly "Sam, this plane is going to crash, okay? So quit treating me like I'm friggin' four." Dean snapped " Dean, You need to calm down." I said "well Sorry I can't" "Yes you can" Sam said "Dude, stow the touchy-feely, self-help yoga crap, it's not helping." Dean said "Listen, if you're panicked, you're wide open to demonic possession, so you need to calm yourself down. Right now." Sam said, Dean took som deep breaths, "Good. Now, I found an exorcism in here that I think is gonna work. The Rituale Romanum." Sam said opening Dad's journal "What do we have to do?" Dean asked "It's two parts. The first part expels the demon from the victim's body. It makes it manifest, which actually makes it more powerful." "More powerful?" Dean and I said "Yeah". "How?" Dean asked "Well, it doesn't need to possess someone anymore. It can just wreak havoc on its own." Sam said "Oh. And why is that a good thing?" Dean asked "Well, because the second part sends the bastard back to hell once and for all." Sam said, "We just have to find it first" I said "Nope, You stay here, Sammy and I got it" Dean said.
I saw Sam and Dean near the front of the plane and walked over to them, we've only got fifteen minutes before the plane crashes "Got anything?" I asked "No" both shook their heads "Maybe the thing's just not on the plane." Dean said "You believe that?" Sam asked "Well, I will if you two will" Dean said as the EMF spiked "Christo" Dean said I followed his eye-line to see the co-pilot with black eyes, "Go back to your seat, Els" Dean said, twelve minutes, Sam and Dean were going to the back to tell Amanda the truth and to get her to get the Co-pilot. I saw her go into the cock pit and come out a minute later with him and leadhim to the back where my brothers were. "Come on boys" I muttered asthe plane dipped suddenly and started to shake, I knew Dean would be freaking out he seemed pretty serious about not liking airplanes, the plane evened out again and I felt myself relax against my seat, Never am I letting them deal with something like this again. The plane was turned around and every one was asked to leave so the FBI and FAA could check what happened. "Hey, I have to Pee, I'll be back" I said running to the bathroom. I got back to Sam and Dean in time to hear Sam say "Dean, it knew about Jessica." "Sam, these things, they, they read minds. They lie. All right? That's all it was." Dean said putting his hand on mine and Sam's shoulders "yeah" Sam said "Come on" Dean said leading us out of the airport.
"Nobody knows what you guys did, but I do. A lot of people could have been killed." Jerry said as he shook our hands "Your dad's gonna be real proud." Jerry said as Dean and I turned to leave "We'll see you around Jerry" Sam said "you know Jerry" Dean stopped and turned around "yeah" "I meant to ask you, how did you get my cellphone number, anyway? I've only had it for like six months." "Your dad gave it to me." "What?" Sam and I exclaimed and Dean asked "When did you talk to him?" "I mean, I didn't exactly talk to him, but I called his number. His voice message said to give you a call. Thanks again, guys." Jerry calls as he walked away.
Sam and Dean were sitting on the car and I stood between them while Dean dialed Dads number "This doesn't make any sense, man. I've called Dad's number like fifty times. It's been out of service." Sam said, "Me too" I said nodding at Sam, Dean held a finger to his mouth and turned his phone so we could hear too "This is John Winchester. I can't be reached. If this is an emergency, call my son, Dean. 785-555-0179. He can help." There is no mistaken that, that is Dad alright. Sam looked mad as he turned around and got into the car. Dean and I followed none of us said anything which made for a bit of an awkward car ride.
