"Hurry! In the tunnel!" SARU ushers the captives into a tunnel with an urgent look as he looks around the burning building, "The army will soon be here!"

Tenma grasps Meia's hand, who squeezes back with reassurance, "Don't worry, I'll always be with you, Tenma."

He takes a deep breath and exhales, "Yeah… Thank you." He's about to jump down into the hole but a sharp female scream rings out.

"That must have been another scientist… Wish I could have killed them myself," SARU sneers before noticing Tenma stopping, "What's wrong?"

Tenma doesn't respond before letting go of Meia's hand then takes off running at the direction of the scream, "TENMA?!" She screams at him before cursing then chasing him.

"OI! GET BACK HERE YOU TWO!" SARU curses before looking at the tunnel then to them, "Damn it!" He curses before chasing after them.

"Oi, Tenma! Why are you running away from freedom?!" Meia shouts as she dodges burning wreckage falling on them.

"I heard professor Kinako's scream! She is the only one that should be alive out of those lab coats!" Tenma yells back before running even faster.

"Tenma! Fine, we either die together or live together!" Meia shouts before catching up to him. He looks at her, though he looks back to the front in order to avoid another wreckage.

"No! Just go back, I can handle this! I'll meet you on the other –"

"Bullshit! I know you Tenma! You like to sacrifice yourself for others! Not this time."

He shuts his mouth at her comment before nodding with a tinge of relief in his eyes, "Ok. Let's get out of this together."

"Yep!"

They soon come upon a female with shoulder-length milky brown hair on the ground with her leg trapped under a few metal beams. She has her eyes closed, most likely resigned to the fate of her dying, yet she opens her eyes as she hears footsteps approaching her.

"Tenma?! What are you doing here! You need to escape from here now!" Kinako tries to get him to leave but frowns as she sees him sliding next to her then she sees Meia coming right behind him.

"Meia! Help me move this!"

"B-but, fine!"

Kinako notices them trying to lift the metal beams, so she helps push it off of her leg, which miraculously escaped with no broken bones.

"Come on you two, we need to get out of here first!" Kinako wobbly stands up, though she soon trips and would have fallen down if Tenma hadn't caught her.

"Thanks, now I know a secret room that we can go into to survive the building falling down."

"That won't be necessary, scientist."

SARU comes up to them with his gun pointed at Kinako. Meia steps in between them, blocking his line of sight, "Move away girl."

"No. You will hit Tenma in the crossfire."

"She knows too much."

Tenma shouts, "Professor Kinako can keep this a secret! I swear on it!" He then looks at her with confidence, prompting Kinako to nod as confirmation.

"Still. No witnesses." SARU sighs before lowering his gun, "Fine. Only if you tell the world that you got knocked out and escaped at the last minute."

Kinako rapidly nods, prompting SARU to hold his hand out to them. The former blinks as she finds herself levitating in the air while the latter looks at Tenma then to Meia.

"Go into the tunnel and wait for me. If you see anybody else than me, press the button near the entrance to close it. I'll find another way to escape." Seeing them reluctantly nodding, he continues, "Now go."

"Thank you," Tenma says before running to the tunnel, followed by Meia after she bows at him.

"You better keep your promise, scientist."

"You have my word that I won't say anything about this."

Tenma and Meia safely reach the tunnel while panting, "Are you sure you can trust him?" She asks as she glances back to the hallway.

He shakes his head, "Not much choice… I'll give him the benefit of doubt."

Silence descends on them since Tenma is keeping a lookout for SARU while Meia is hovering her hands over the red button next to her.

She glances at him then to his hand, which has turned red due to the heat, then to hers, which has also turned red with the mixture of black and purple.

"Hey… Tenma… Do you think we can build a life for ourselves?" She silently asks.

He doesn't respond for a while but eventually, he opens his mouth, "I don't know. I'm only eight while you're nine… With this gene inside of us that will kill us when we reach twenty."

Meia interlocks her pinkie with Tenma's own then gives a light pull, "Don't worry too much. As long as we are together, we can pull through." She smiles at him.

He smiles back at her, "Yeah. Yeah. We can do it."

A shadow goes straight between them, making them blink then look at SARU skidding to a halt.

He looks back to see the door still open, "Oi, close the door!" He yells at them, prompting Meia to let out an eek before slamming down onto the button, making the door close shut.

"Your precious scientist is safe. Now come on. We need to get away from here before we get trapped." SARU sighs in relief before motioning them to follow him.

"Where are we going?" Tenma asks as he and Meia trail behind him.

"A place where we can rest with no fear of being experimented on."
